e through notice the darker area that's where we expect that amount even a bit more possible along the eye of the storm that's expected anywhere between the Baton Rouge area and closer to New Orleans so we'll be monitoring the threat for heavy rains leading to flash flooding over the afternoon and evening time frame here's another look at Francine's latest track this is of 10:00 a.m. the latest ad put out still at a category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph expected to keep that strength as it makes landfall later on this afternoon likely as early as 4:5 p.m. and then we'll move through the state throughout the rest of your Wednesday evening here's a look at the Windfield I want you to um highly pay attention because if you are east of where that Central Area is that's where we could see some of the highest impacts now right around the storm near Morgan City in the area where landfall is expected that's where we will see those hurricane strength winds outside tropical storm which still could be damaging but tropical storm strength winds across majority of Southeast Louisiana as that system continues Northeast throughout the evening and overnight hours the strongest winds will be to the east of that Center including in that the Tango area Livingston Ascension assumption St James and down towards Morgan City as well so expect these strongest conditions to the east but still wherever you are we're dealing with heavy rains damaging winds the potential for some spin up tornadoes and of course that storm surge thread near the coast that's another look at your tropical alert this is through the day today so make sure your phone alerts are turned on so you receive any weather notifications that may be sent out I'll have more details coming up in a bit now let's get to news thanks so much Emma Kate be sure to stay with with us throughout the day right here on WBZ with our live team coverage of Hurricane Fran scine you can make sure you download the WBZ news and weather apps to stay informed with up to- the- minute pushes and alerts for even more details you can head to our website wbrz.com now one place that looks to be in the path of the storm is Ascension Parish yeah whenever it rains there they get pretty nervous and new to Fallon Brown is live in Santa mama with Mor Fallen good afternoon uh are they ready to go in Ascension good morning JP Brandy yes I believe that they are ready to go in Ascension Parish and as you mentioned this community is a little bit on edge because of past weather events the flood of 2016 other storms that have caused some high water and flooding I'm also from this area so I know firsthand how these residents feel right now I'm here at aention Paris sheriff's office headquarters with uh the public information officer Donovan action Jack good afternoon thank you so much for joining us now tell me how the sheriff's office is prepared to serve the community today definitely well thank you all for first and foremost for coming out and covering this area we just want to let the residents of Ascension Parish know that we are ready to rock and roll with Francine uh the sheriff and our deputies have been meeting since 4:00 this morning putting action plans into place and even days before we've been preparing making sure that we get our high water Vehicles ready in station we've been mapping out some of those hot spot locations that are known or prone to flooding areas so uh we already to rock and roll we're no strangers to this as you said we've had issues with storms in the past we had Ida but uh if you remember our response to those emergency situations were were very good and we were able to really help with those recovery efforts efforts so we're ready to rock and roll with this absolutely and I know that you guys also have other situations to respond to as well I mean you are the sheriff's office so you know on top of Hurricane related events you've got your regular situations out there so what does the community need to know what do people out here need to do in order to keep the responses to a minimum when it comes to today definitely well we still have a little bit of time before the storm so you can see some folks are still out on the road we want to encourage people to get what you need to get done but once that storm starts to come in a little bit on this afternoon we really are asking folks to Honker down into their homes uh because as you said we have our regular and normal emergencies that we will have to respond to so the less folks we have on the road during this storm then uh the the less we have to respond to of as for this storm we we have doubled up on our deputies on our Patrol deputies we have a full house in our Dispatch Center and they're ready to answer those emergencies uh but we just don't want to overwhelm that that that uh those deputies and those dispatches and also have remember if there are road closures if there are trees that fall down on the road if there's an emergency that you put yourself in a situation you put yourself in it'll be hard for us to get to you uh because we will be dealing with uh blockages on the road and stuff like that so we just want to encourage folks to just stay home if you can don't put yourself in an emergency situation but if you do have to call 911 dispatch we will be here for you in that response awesome and as you mentioned you know they are fully staffed here today at the sheriff's office I also went to the Santa M fire department earlier and it's the same situation all Hands-On deck so everybody all emergency response teams in Ascension Parish are ready to go they're ready to serve the community so hopefully that puts a little bit of those nerves to ease for now I'm going to go ahead and send things back to JP and Brandy I hope you all stay safe out there though I'm live in Ascension Parish Fallon Brown WBZ news2 ready to go in Ascension hey Fallon thanks for that you know you can help us cover this storm by sending us photos and videos email them picks at wbrz.com you are the best reporters in the eye of the storm because whether you live in Ascension Livingston uh or other parishes in and around the Baton R area you can show us firsthand what's going on in your neighborhood and you know Brandy Donovan mentioned those high water Vehicles it's a sign of the time most Sheriff's offices and police forces around South Louisiana uh they've Incorporated that into their fleets they have these high water vehicles and you've seen them they're these huge vehicles with huge tires and usually they can go through uh anywhere from 2 and a half to three feet of flood waters and they they use those for rescues or to bring supplies into flooded areas and you're going to see a lot of that I think over the next couple of days that's right plenty of waterways we're already seeing water start to inch up in some areas especially towards the coast we've been watching in that traffic camera down there near Grand a in leeville on Highway 1 where you can see the water starting to creep up on the roadways and of course em Kate with that 11:00 a.m. advisory letting us know it is time to Honker down and inspect expect those impacts this afternoon from Hurricane Francine we're going to continue to track it we will be back in about a half hour less than a half hour at 11:30 we're expecting to hear from the governor's office of Homeland Security and emergency preparedness GOP as they give us an update on their plans we haven't heard from them since yesterday morning and I know that they've been saying to get a game plan but the time is now now the storm is approaching yeah GOP is sort of the nerve center uh they have officials meeting there from state government and they're in contact with many the parishes throughout the state Governor Jeff Landry is going to give us an update on where Louisiana stands right now as this storm which is strengthening could be a powerful hurricane when it hits the coast of Louisiana as this storm hits he's going to let us know how those parishes especially those along the coast are fearing well that's the latest now on Hurricane Francine we're expecting to hear from Governor Landry Governor Jeff Landry and other state officials at goep at 11:30 we will bring you that live right here on WBZ make sure you have the WBZ news and weather app until then we'll see you in just a bit e for
