so look obviously we're into game week uh Wednesday um we had a bonus practice Monday that was a little lighter today you know a lot of first and second down situations um any questions with Pat just I mean guess it's obviously c a player he is but what made now the right time to get that feel done you know I we we had spent some time talking about it um we felt uh we felt real good about uh I think both sides felt real good about the timing and uh and we went ahead and did it you know you know it's securing a real young talented player that that um is that a position that's hard to find when you I mean obviously you game plan from the offensive side when you have a corner of that caliber that you're game planning against what are the challenges just that a guy like they present a lot of challenge challenges and and and it actually can give the defense some freedoms relative to how they want to support the Run um look they're just they're just hard to find you know it's probably one of the harder positions to play in our league and uh and so it does create matchup problems offensively but it just as importantly more importantly um allows you some flexibility on defense to do things maybe you couldn't normally do if if you didn't have someone of that caliber how about just in general you locked up Quin miners in July and just you know getting these building blocks locked up longterm your thoughts on that I I think I think it's those are good football decisions announc Captain today Bo in particular what do you think um yeah I think you hit on it I I think you know that's not something that that happens that often um and so U I think you know it's it's something you earn and and these guys you know all of them voted on on these guys and and it was probably as clean a result that I'd seen in a while relative to um those players that were all selected but you know it's it's it's unusual for a rookie to to to get made a captain and and yet by Nature that position to some degree is is leading and so um but that was something that I think organically takes place throughout the spring and training camp and um you know goes from there just coach just talking about that how rare is that I mean I think it's the first time with the Broncos since 1967 yeah it's a first it's a first for me you know just just say rookie period you know In fairness to the process um and yet um you know I think it is what it is I I think it's a you know credit to him and and and you know I think his teammates uh you know felt that he belonged in that position soes to game planning how how involved you want the quarterback to be is that something that comes organically just in terms of what you bounce off of what is what is that yeah the game planning itself you know periodically there'll be an idea that there was an idea that came up um we'll ask you know I I want to know what these guys really like um but then when it comes to the actual game planning um I think it's more towards the week as we wind down what are the things that you like on this plan you know the last meeting we have is Saturday night we'll dot you know the plays that uh that player really likes and if there's if there's a play you know he's not as comfortable with I'll I'll cross it off um so that's kind of how the process goes during the week if we have a new idea you know how do I um in practice create the uh the look where he gains confidence with that play and then all of a sudden it's a dotted play but it's look it's not unusual in Saturday you're going through the list and you know there's a play that God I love this play and and he's you know whoever that player is is kind of like ah and I'm like you know you just um but I think you know hearing hearing those final thoughts are important how's Brian Jon been looking at missing so much time good you know he was good moving out was moving out there today um he's feeling well you know his test testing numbers and all the metrics that come back relative to it uh are going well you've done this for a long time is there some things intangible you will look for to no B's comfortable out there on Sunday in that environment Beyond performance but the things you were watching to see to make sure his you got kind of a slow heartbeat um yeah I look that's a good question I don't know you know part of that um is up to us relative to you know how you begin the game um and really it was no different than you know those first call it 10 plays at Indianapolis you know that um you know they come everyone's going to have them and and and I think even for guys that are returning starters the same thing exists when you when you start the season um and so you know get into the things that these guys know well and and allow them play fast I think that's important Sean talk us about Joker traits with both Jal and Greg Dage when do they go from having those traits to kind of being designated as that you know in your eyes yeah um good question I I think um you know certainly both of those guys are are guys that can create some matchup issues in the passing game um I kid Jal a lot and and you know I you know he works his tail off um you I don't know that I've given him his wings yet um but that's really more just being funny uh look I I I think it gets back to trying to highlight the strong suit of what what guys do you know we're not going to try to run power um with Greg and there's certain things you know we're not going to want Jal to do and and there's certain things we feel like they do well have you named have you named the starter at the cornerback spot opposit C tan and how will you handle that position abut yeah I mean we haven't named any starters I mean we we kind of have an idea as we're going no announcements you know how it is during the game week you know I'm not going to talk about injuries I'm not going to talk about lineups I mean with respect talk to defensive coaches who say they've studied M pressure packages what you need yeah they give you they give you a lot of looks you know they they'll play they'll play their odd front and and they'll move that around um you know they did they've done a great job I think in his last two years he's second in the league and you know takeaways so they're an opportunistic aggressive defense um you know the challenge this week is you you've got the Ravens element when we're looking at defensive film and yet looking at the Seattle personnel and so um you're kind of going back and forth from a cutup standpoint um um and it's not unusual when you have a new staff and then defensively you know you have a new offensive coordinator who's coming from college um so you you're paying attention to the preseason of course but but then also um maybe Trends and things that that they've done prior obviously with Mike you know it's there's a lot of Baltimore and the cut-ups uh that we're studying and and yet you know how much how much makes it in year one into Seattle's package um you know only they would know that not us but um but they do a good job with disguise um they hold their disguise as well uh and uh yeah I mean they they create create some challenges did you look at Michigan or is college tape off the table yeah it's just a a matter of how far you want to go back Courtland also named the captain I think four years in a row yeah what's the importance of having the right you talked about Young and Hungry team having the right that's there to compliment of that useful energy I I think look any young team still you're counting on experience and Leadership um and so you know he's one of those guys that I think he ended up with the most votes and and um and I wouldn't say it's just because of his experience I'd say it's because of his personality it's because of how he works it's there's so many other traits so uh you know years in the league I don't think equates necessarily to being a good Captain I think there's more to it than that and I think that's the way that his teammates looked at it
