49ers preparing to face Jets without Brandon Aiyuk, Trent Williams

Kyle Shanahan says he's preparing for life without Brandon iuk and Trent Williams what is that look like exactly and will we get to the end of this Saga anytime soon we'll talk about it [Music] next very excited to have these uh let's call them weekly therapy sessions to talk about how angry I am about the 49ers closing their uh Super Bowl window on their own yeah who thought they' they'd be the ones put up the clothes for business sign people are going to see this and they're going to see uh on your name it says hotkey fat club please what is that tell people what that is uh the hot fat guy club is uh my other business um I live in New York City I grew up in San Francisco I've been a big and tall model and an opera singer for my whole life and I was an offensive and defensive lineman uh when I played football uh seemingly millions of years ago um but I started the hot fat guy club uh two years ago as a place for hot fat guys and people that love them to go to learn how to be their most confident and uh uh hot s because at the end of the day everybody likes a different flavor and you can be fat you can be hot and there's a reason Baskin Robbins has 31 Flavors everybody's attracted to something different I mean look at Trent Williams is he not the hottest hot fat guy ever maybe a little bit angry with his contract situation but come on he'd look a lot hotter to me if he was actually wearing a 49ers uniform and in Camp I'll say that that's for sure so you are the second 49ers content creator I know that's a former offensive lineman you and Brad Graham yep yep well you know what L con always says the offensive linemen tend to be the smartest players on the field and uh by no means was I a good offensive lineman but uh and I don't know if I could even say I was the smartest person on the field but I do love talking 49ers and I'm glad to be here so Rob thank you for having me wow thank you let's dive into it yesterday because Kyle Shanahan said something that sounded like it was a good thing but then when you listen to what he actually said if you listen close it's maybe not so good here is Kyle yesterday talking about the Trent Williams situation I'm I'm optimistic that things will work out with Trent I'm not sitting here knowing what day it'll be I mean we're getting close to playing a game so like um my mind is completely on preparing for a game without those guys um but yeah I feel when two sides want to get a deal done usually it happens interesting I'm preparing for the game without those guys we're over a week away from the game and yet that's where Kyle is right now I thought that was a very telling comment uh to me it sounds like a brock py injury waiting to happen because Jaylen Moore and Colton mckivitz is probably the worst tackle combo in the NFL probably I mean I can't think of a worse one I mean Colton mck ended Colton mckivitz the starting right tackle job when they had cut him at one point like he wasn't even good enough to be a member of their organization let alone a backup and then he comes back and all of a sudden they're like yep unchallenged you know no competition whatever you could be the right tackle it is a scary proposition especially against that Jets defense not only against the Jets defense but against any defense quite frankly I mean there were there like I I remember seeing on Twitter there were a couple videos of a few new hand moves that mckivitz had that we saw in the preseason but other than that it's the same old Colton he's he's whiffing on his dropback uh on his uh uh kick step he's whiffing on run plays like thank God for Dominic Poney making him look like he's a competent player but I I don't understand Kyle's fixation with not spending on the offensive line other than Trent Williams and we can't even say that that's the case now because where's Trent's contract and from a team perspective I understand not wanting to pay your 36y old injury-prone arguably the best player in the entire NFL but from a team perspective if we give him three years hundred million fully guaranteed and he breaks his ankle on the third play of the Jets game that screws us for the next couple of years and but at the same time if if we if P's worth 60 mli $65 million and we're going to run into the next few years with him as our guy we have to pay Trent we have to put him on the field and if we don't our Super Bowl window is slammed closed the the thing with Trent I feel like is he affects every other part of the offense like Jim Harbaugh said this offseason the offensive line is the only part of the team that is good or bad on its own but it also affects every other part of the team and I kind of agree with it like you don't have Trent Williams there that's a massive problem on the left side of your line that's going to impact your running game it doesn't matter if you get Brandon iuk if you have Trent Williams and Brock P's Under Pressure every other minute like you are negatively affecting the rest of your team and and I as I've said throughout this whole thing the what is your argument for not paying Trent Williams more money he's really good he's earned it he's underpaid like they can do it they can do it there's always a way to finagle it under the salary cap even if you have to burn your salary cap a couple years down the road whatever but like to to have this situation on August 29th is absurd and ridiculous I I completely agree and uh again he is the most important part of the entire team nothing works without him and I'm sorry but a $19 million a year Christian mcaffrey is worth nothing without Trent I completely agree with you it's it's not only mcaffrey everybody everybody will be worse SF Gold Rush watching on YouTube says the Niners did it to themselves by not addressing this position in the draft for multiple years they put themselves here which is an interesting point because it seems like they always have kind of been thinking ahead when it comes to the draft perfect example they take Malik Mustafa because talanova hufanga is a free agent after the year right how many tight ends have they drafted trying to not only look for a tight end two but eventually a KD replacement let's be honest they took Ricky piol in round one as a hedge against Brandon auk or having to lose either auk or Debo after the year it seems like they are always willing to look ahead except at this spot which you're right is a it appears to be a blind spot for the organization I I every once in a while I have to go back and listen to that interview that Kyle did with Tim kakami uh right before training camp started where they talked about their I don't necessarily want to say unwillingness to invest in the offensive line but Kyle tried to say you know you don't really need to do that you can find guys who will fit into the system yada y y y okay well how's that working out for you Kyle how's that working like I don't know Kyle what what um that last play of the Super Bowl that last offensive play of the Super Bowl how did not investing in the offensive line work out for you then I think he would respond it would help if my Right Guard didn't go Rogue we would have been just fine but I hear what you're saying like clearly they need to and like they did invest at it when they signed Weston Richburg right they gave his him a significant contract they invested in it when they signed Alex Mack too now it's like well we'll just go with Jake Brendle yeah I don't know if you've watched Jake brindle in the preseason but baby it's Jake Jake brindle is about as useful playing Center as a wet paper bag is holding something heavy wow all right tell us how you really feel Alex uh listen Kyle said it for years especially after uh you know I grew up just over the hills from Cal I watched Alex Mack play at Cal and you watch the effect that Alex Mack had on Kyle's offense when he was in Atlanta and uh you know the couple of years that Mack played for us the center is the most important part of Kyle's offensive line and brandle really that's purely a caps a cap Choice Brendle does not Brendle was terrible in the Super Bowl he's been terrible in the preseason this year and I have minimal if any expectations for him to be able to deliver especially with a trendless offensive line yeah I I agree with you it's a scary situation especially when you remember too that the center's responsible for the protection calls in this offense they bear a heavy mental and intellectual responsibility in this offense so even if you want to make a change it's not as easy as just swapping in somebody because they got to be able to do all that stuff I saw something on Twitter this morning that made me laugh it was from the athletic they did a survey to find out the best run organizations according to 30 had 31 representatives in the survey the Eagles and Niners top the list with five votes each I I mean if you were to take a poll of 49ers fans I know which or ganization would not win best run right now yeah I I do think that we have to take that everything that 49ers fans including ourselves say with a grain of salt because uh I'm 32 years old I have only known pain as a 49ers fan in my life I have only known heartbreak and if it wasn't for the Giants and the Warriors going on the runs that they did when they did this would just have just been an absolutely abysmal Sports existence for me but the I would rather us be terrible and essentially Anonymous every year than to continue to get one quarter away from winning a Super Bowl and blowing it at the last second I don't know how much more that my heart and my soul can take oh no I'm not I'm not with you on that one I'm also a Seattle Mariners fan I know irrelevance okay they're the only team that has never even appeared in the World Series I will take this over that if those are my only options I'll take what the 49ers have I was old enough to experience a Super Bowl victory I was nine years old when the ners won their championship in 1994 I've been desperately hoping and clinging to the the idea that they'll get another one and we sit here on Thursday Alex this is the last Thursday without football a week from today the season opens and and I you know as I have felt for three of the last four years the 49ers should be in that game because that's when defending Super Bowl champions open their season and every time I hear oh the Chiefs are playing and my son even dialed up the Thursday night football theme this morning on his way to school and I was just like man that should be us I should be prepping for that game right now yes yeah yeah I agree I my best friend has been a Knicks fan for his whole life oh I'm sorry Y and this is a this is an argument that we have constantly and and just the the conver he's like you hate Kyle so much and I'm like I hate Kyle because I see what Kyle could be and the thing that's holding him back and holding all of us back from winning a freaking Super Bowl is Kyle's ego and the fact that Kyle seemingly is not willing or able to adapt to the way that the league is changing and also even just the way that Kyle manages to choke at the end of important games every single time mcaffrey was not himself from the moment he fumbled through the rest of the Super Bowl and he basically became completely irrelevant for the rest of that game and I'm sorry but using him as a decoy on the most important offensive play for the entire game is coaching malpractice just unbelievable to me and I we're starting to see now with the emergence of Jordan Mason as the rb2 how much Thunder we can add to McCaffrey's lightning and quite frankly how that can help the Swiss cheese offensive line in the state that it currently is if we can balance a little bit more power with McCaffrey's ability to be Shifty and just make everyone Miss that's going to really change the way the offense looks um for the better and I I still stand by if we would have kept giving Debo and mo the ball in 2019 we have that ring if we would have kept if we would have given Mason even one touch in that Super Bowl last year we have a ring and we're getting ready to watch that game on Thursday night next week I don't know about that last thing I'm not quite sure about that I do think Jordan Mason can help um I'm interested to see how much run they actually give him this year I don't know let me ask you this if Elijah Mitchell wasn't done for the season with a hamstring injury another injury for Elijah Mitchell poor Elijah Mitchell I know it's it's terrible for him but would would Jordan Mason be rb2 without that injury because I don't think he would he should be he's a guaranteed six yards per carry every time he touches the ball he's the most decisive Runner that the 49ers have and he looks like Marshon Lynch and Mar and barar reincarnated on a football field and it's not just because he wears 24 nobody wants to tackle that guy nobody wants to tackle that guy I saw actually I think it was Grant who I know he was you know he likes to throw Chum into the water but he actually tweeted out a physical comparison of Marshon Lynch and Jordan Mason and they are remarkably similar just from that standpoint I'm not saying Jordan Mason is Marshon Lynch but they are similar from that standpoint I do think that Mason you know he's come in and mop up Duty a lot of times when the game has been decided so I know he has a high yards per carry average and right now it's 5.6 for his career I don't think going to run for 5.6 yards per carry if he did that would be the highest yards per attempt I think of all time so not willing to say he's there but I do think he will help and I think like I have continued to say all that matters is getting the job done once you get to the playoffs and if you can use Jordan Mason to to give me the Christian mcaffrey at the end of the year that's in kind of Peak form that's worth it that's absolutely worth it even if it means you have slightly less success in the regular season M yep yeah mcaffrey has no business getting over 250 touches this year we need him healthy in January and February we do not need him to be touching the ball more than 17 times a game especially in the first 10 games of the season and also what's the status of his injury we haven't heard anything about him in a couple weeks I feel like that's they've been really quiet about that what is going on with CMC right now they have been quiet about it I remember at the time it came came out he said that if it was a regular season game he would have played I think it was before the Saints game so that made me feel good about it um and now I don't know if he's necessarily sitting out right now because of the injury or just because they're like hey dude Veteran Day like chill out your Christian mcaffrey I don't know but you're right they haven't even really been asked about it um I would like to think that you know we don't have a problem it's been a really long time since he's actually practiced because of the what was it a calf injury I believe um so I'm hoping that it's just you know hey we're not doing anything crazy with you we know how important you are to this team also we know that you got 339 touches last year which led the NFL and that was just in the regular season so I hope it's that and not anything more yep let's hope because given $19 million to a 28 year old running back when again I just can't believe how blindsided they were by the and and John even admitted it in his uh John Lynch admitted it in his press conference yesterday they were a little bit blindsided by the Trent Williams hold out and like I'm sorry the most tackle Rich draft in the last at least five years that I can remember and you leave without a single one of them are you kidding me right again like where was the foresight with that and it's it is surprising you're right he did say like oh things come up with with Trent Williams it's like you really couldn't see it coming even though you you raced to get the deal done with Christian mcaffry because he didn't have any guaranteed money left in his deal and the guy that never complains about anything didn't show up for the voluntary portion of the offseason program and then Bing Bang Boom you got a contract done with him now I think that Trent wants more than just guaranteeing the money in his contract I think he wants a raise also so that may be a little bit hairer but like it shouldn't be shocking to the Hall of Fame former player that's now a general manager that your left tackle wants more money when there's no guaranteed money left in his deal right and if there's one thing that we know for sure that Trent William does not mess around with it's his money do not mess around with Trent Williams there is no [ __ ] around with Trent Williams you are only going to find out if you do and like with it's different with Brandon auk the one thing you know about Brandon auk he's he might not play he might sit out games he ain't gonna retire Trent Williams could just be like he's out I'm out of here and just walk away he do need to put his body through that if he's not gonna make the amount of money that he wants so you have no leverage with Trent Williams you have no replacement for him on the roster not even close he affects the other guys that you have and he is the ultimate Trump guard because he could just say peace out I'm done right and you're you're stuck so like just do it already you're the win is getting the contract done you're not gonna actually win the negotiation uh correct me if I'm wrong did we trade with the Chiefs in round two to move back one spot to take green after they took Su mataya or did was it the bills again uh I know we traded with the Chiefs I don't remember the specifics but I know that we did do that with the Chiefs um let me try and see if I can look it up really quick but that sounds right what you said because it's truly amazing to me that the chief's two biggest Rivals is a bit of a stretch of the world but the two the two biggest pieces of opposition to the Chiefs the bills and the 49ers in this era of the Chiefs Dynasty uh have made the most ridiculous trades with them possible and the bills trading the pick that turned into momes and then us trading them the pick that gave them Su mataya when we should have taken him uh to be the Trent Williams air parent yeah that hurt really because it was like Oh wait we're trading okay we're trading then it was like wait we're trading with the Chiefs okay and then it was like wait and they're taking the tackle which is the position that everybody wanted the 49ers to go was like three punches like a combination um I I wanted the 49ers to leave this draft with some combination of either Troy fanu if we did make the Brandon iuk trade with Pittsburgh Roger Rosen Garten who would have been the perfect right tackle for us and who's apparently been looking great in Baltimore right now and uh at least some combination of Jackson Powers Johnson or there was a guard I wanted whose name I can't remember luckily we got puny again the thing that's crazy about this is the Niners are not incapable of drafting competent offensive linemen punies looked fantastic and berford he was berford was a fourth round pick that we got completely lucky with and again he has a tackle body I don't understand why the 49ers love to draft offensive linemen and just players in general and then say okay you're going to play a different position like say what you want about the Jim Harbaugh era and the when the 40 when he was the coach of the 49ers and the way that all ended but he was very good at putting his players in the best possible position to succeed he did not play people out of position he put them in positions where they would Thrive and adapt did the strategy around that imagine that sort of like job one as a head coach um yeah so that for to be fair to the ners I think they wanted Rosen Garden I think the Ravens pulled the rug out from under them basically the Niners thought he was gonna be there excuse me and he wasn't and then once he was gone the N ners didn't want Su Matia Su mataya I'm not sure how to say his name I apologize I think it's Su mataya but I'm not sure I hate getting people's names wrong um now to be Renardo green looks good in fact this 2024 draft class looks like the best that they have had at least you know with the early returns looks like the best they've had in a long time yeah there's a couple of interesting uh conversations that stem from that it's one what what was Adam Peter's effect on the last few 49ers draft classes number two uh why were the last few draft classes full of so many whiffs and number three here's one for you and for everybody in the chat knowing what we know now about how the Ricky peol experim experiment has gone would you rather stay Pat with Ricky peol or severely reach and take rosengarten at 31 well I haven't seen Rosen Garten so I don't know but I mean piol has given you nothing he's finished six out of 21 practices so far practices like where can't even be tackled or anything and his shoulder still popping out of place so I desperately want to see him you know I I always talk about draft picks like a Christmas present it's sitting under the tree we're waiting to open it like I want to open the gift I opened Jacob coing and he looks awesome right now Jacob coing looks so fun he does he looks great Renardo green looks good Dominic Poney obviously is gonna be the starting Right Guard which is amazing to get in a third round that's like that's fantastic even Malik Mustafa has flashed a little bit you know maybe there's there once I put the Lego pieces together you know I want to unwrap the Ricky peol present I do the peara pick also doesn't make sense to me who did the due diligence on peera by cray 97 Kyle piol screams a Kyle Pick Part of Me Part of Me wonders if he was like you know what we don't need to pay y I could do it with somebody else watch I'll take this guy I'll do it with him I don't and I don't know that that's just speculation on me but part of me feels that Brandon auk has never been one of Kyle's guys he never has he's never been embraced by him the way he's embraced Debo and KD and mcaffrey he's always sort of on the outside looking in which is wild because if you remember when they had all those coaches cams for the 2020 draft Kyle was so excited when they got auk and so what happened there and that's it's so frustrating because auk is so clearly the best wide receiver on the team and this is what this is this is where I think Kyle's ego really comes into play as especially in this state of the 49ers right now and you look at P's very clear chemistry with yeah yeah he's so happy he's beaming in that video P's chemistry with auk is undeniable they have the Mind meld and we're about to pay pie $65 million a year and you're going to take away his number one target who's your man coverage beater who let's face it we don't go to the Super Bowl without auk making that crazy Circus catch none of it makes sense logically by the way I've just seen that video again it's it's wild that Kyle like emoted that much I feel like he never emotes that much unless it's bad um but they never matched and now you're putting you're putting more stress on pie you're putting more stress on did you see the clip that David Lombardi tweeted out the 49ers had an event yesterday after uh all of the press conferences and I think it was like a charity event and John Lynch spoke at the event and he said you know there's been a lot of talk about who's not here in Camp but I look at who is here Debo and he like pointed like and he just like singled out Debo like that and it's like dude have you not seen Debo play in his career like he's great at what he does he's the best there is at what he does but he doesn't do everything and what he doesn't do he doesn't do like he's really bad at and so you're putting a lot of eggs in that basket and even Kyle has admitted that Deo does not give full effort when he's not getting the ball do you watch the jto Sullivan uh breakdowns uh every once in a while yes he loves to pick out plays where Debo Samuel is half assing it yep and listen Debo Samuel is a top five playmaker in the NFL that is undeniable let's get to the Super Chat and then ever again I don't I'm sorry I don't I just don't we okay great we hit on Nick Bosa because everyone tore their ACL at MetLife Stadium that Year great and then you know we hit on auk but can't pay him and after that what Solomon Thomas woof great guy should never have gone third overall oh my God uh Mike mcglinchy Mike mcglinch is the reason we won't draft offensive lineman before the third round now that's not I mean Mike mcglinchy was frustrating but he wasn't a whiff right he gave you only in pass protection well he gave you like legitimate starter the play though it wasn't like a Trey Surman situation now was ninth overall so you would like to think that you know you shouldn't get that but yeah I think you could make the argument that maybe the 49ers could get more value out of their first round picks if they traded them either for a player during the year or for more draft picks before the draft rather than drafting a guy with that pick this isn't a uh a fantasy stream but I I've been in a dynasty fantasy football league for almost 10 years now and um this is the best place to tell this story uh the first year of our fantasy league was after we uh was the offseason after we traded for Jimmy garoppo going into the 2018 season and you know those five that five game winning streak when Jimmy G looked like The Reincarnation of of Joe Montana right it was like okay Kyle's got his guy we all know what happens when Kyle gets a quarterback going into the second year and I took Jimmy Garoppolo in a dynasty draft with the second overall pick like an idiot that worked out really well for me um You probably shouldn't tell that story publicly yeah it's all right I I own it now my team's good now I uh I traded for Brock per I got Brock pie for two fourth round picks in 2025 two years ago uh before he was even the starter anyway um I have since adopted a strategy that I like to call the [ __ ] them pick strategy where I have almost no first or second round picks for the next three years in this draft because I trade them for players that are currently Blue Chip players right now John trade your first round picks we don't trust you with them there's an argument to be made for sure bazman watching on YouTube says I can still remember mlinci getting flung by Parsons Oh you mean this look at that look at that picture that is the most amazing thing I have ever seen on an NFL field and remember Mike mlinci is 68 and 315 pounds right that's what you would expect would happen to me if I played offensive line he's he's parallel to the ground he's got five inches on Parsons too that's the crazy thing I mean mlinci was always standing straight up again I I was the worst offensive lineman on the planet I could only go forward and backward I was a good D tackle sucked at offensive line I was I like I could give Colton mckivitz a run for his money for how often I used to whiff and pass protection uh mcglinchy would stand straight up every single time he would uh do his Kickback for a pass play it was unbelievable and I was talking to a friend about this last night what would George KD be if he didn't have to be right tackle two on every single play I mean we would see the first 2,000 yard season from a tight end if George KD didn't have to stay into pass block on every single play I've said it for years blocking is the second best thing George KD does he's still most useful to the team as a wi receiver by the way Diego says how on Earth did you have that photo ready I always have that photo ready look at it it's amazing I don't even know how that how did he get in that position did mlinci jump and then he got knocked sideways like how does that happen did he just get lifted off the ground unreal unreal I will never I mean I can't even imagine the film review and what I've heard about what I've heard about Kyle like we all know he's tough on players but what I've heard is like he will crush you and then at the end he will say one nice thing like hey well if we had been in this look what you did would have been perfect or something he he throws in the one nice thing to kind of build you up at the end so you don't feel like he's just [ __ ] on you what what is the nice thing that you say about this about to Mike mcin like what what do you say you got a cool new view of the field like I don't know what it would be good airtime right it's like he's doing the Stewart from Mad TV look what I can do look what I can do wow that's deep cut right there deep cut daza says revisionist history but how many of the issues now would be fixed had we taken wors over kinlaw da are you trying to hurt my feelings right now are you trying to rip my soul in half like Richard Sherman when Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson H Rob I want to tell you a story about that that was the uh that was the New York Super Bowl right okay um I believe I live in New York City I've lived in New York City for 13 years I worked at the Seahawks team Hotel that year okay that was the year we lost the NFC Championship to the Seahawks so the 49ers would have been staying at that freaking Hotel oh man and so I walk into work one day and there's just Seahawks banners everywhere we didn't know that this was going to be their hotel but it was one of the like main hotels for the Super Bowl that year it was absolutely soulc crushing every time I walked into the building thank God I didn't see Richard Sherman because I I would have had an absolute contion it was it was truly truly Soul crushing for those two weeks so for anyone yeah that doesn't know at the Super Bowl like they deck out the hotels it is everywhere I'll never forget the first Super Bowl I ever covered was was the Niners Ravens Super Bowl in New Orleans and I remember like it kind of hit me when I walked into the hotel I was staying and on the elevator of the hotel as the doors closed was Michael Crabtree and I was like wow oh my God like we're here like we're in like it hit me then like what was happening so that's how it is so if you were in the Seahawks Hotel it had to be just Soul crushing it it hurt it hurt a lot it hurt a lot yeah it was that was not a fun two weeks that was not a fun two weeks so uh I I want to bring the conversation back to what this offense we've talked a lot about Trent Williams in the offensive line struggles and but I want to go back a little more to what the offense is going to look like without Brandon iuk because we have gotten a little bit of a taste of what we look like without a man beater um in the passing game right now and I do think that as much as it's going to hurt and be a huge loss that we don't have auk I am very excited to see Jan Jennings get a larger role in this offense because it is I am oh I absolutely am Jennings as much as perie and iuk have the mind meld p pery and Jennings have it too um I think that we're going to see an Anquan Bal Andes emergence from Jan Jennings if we see him get more than 60 Targets this year wow okay you are way higher on Jan Jennings than I am you're not g give me the Counterpoint hit me he's not very big he's not very fast he's he's fine for what he is he's perfectly fine for what he is but to me Quan Balden I mean Anquan balt is one of the really really solid receivers one of the best receivers the ners have ever had I just don't think Joan has that in him okay all right I I hope you're right I think Jan is gonna have an emergence this year I I really do especially with all of the vacated targets from not having auk around now granted I don't want Jan to get the targets that iuk should get I want KD to get those targets I want coing to get some of those targets but I think that Jan absolutely should see at least 60 Targets in that offense this year gamep plan. touchdowns now what he doesn't say is that was against the New York Giants last year who are a tire fire that was on September 21st so he he left that part out that that's not going to be the issue right the Niners will still be able to handle even average teams to slightly above average teams if Brandon auk isn't there because they do have the Avengers they do have all those other guys the question is be what happens when they play the good teams without the auk right yeah what happens when they play the Seahawks when they play uh the Bucks don't really have corners but the Packers defense is going to be better this year the Lions defense I mean we finished the season against the Lions by all accounts that game is gonna decide the first over uh the number one seed in the NFC this year so I don't know about the I want to see the Lions do it again frankly I'm not as high on the Lions as everybody else but but they certainly look like they're going to be in the mix for it I totally agree with that yeah yeah I mean the Lions the roster's great I don't trust Dan Campbell like him as a guy don't trust him as a head coach uh you know the dec his decision- making in the NFC championship game should be enough to make you question his ability to take that team to Valhalla like there's no no you can't say that they get a credit for a win in that game the Lions have gotten credit people are act like the Lions won that game you can't criticize the lion because that's the thing right everybody love oh the Lions the story they've been so bad Dan Campbell gives good microphones so we like him in the media the Lions blew the biggest lead in the history of the conf NFC championship game they've got no criticism for that whatsoever none unbelievable loses a 10-point lead against the greatest quarterback of his generation and people are you know burning him in effigy well you want to hear my impression of Kyle Shanahan calling plays during the Super Bowl all right unfortunate situation where McDaniel is very clearly a genius and he's a very fun coach but Tua and just the sheer fact that the Dolphins play the majority of their seasons in Miami and that everything goes through cold weather cold cold weather in the AFC right now through Kansas City and buffalo is always going to be an issue for them also to be completely honest from a personal standpoint I don't ever want to see the dolphins be successful outside of Mike McDaniel I love Mike McDaniel can't stand the Dolphins never never like them but uh I you know we'll see I definitely think we're gonna see a little bit of of rookie uh you know secondy year regression from CJ strad but that Texans team is so fun and good and they are going to be legit this year assuming Stefan digs doesn't tear the whole locker room apart but oh uh SF gold rush says iuk is not at practice again wow oh baby all right so that's yeah it's gonna be now what do the 49ers do because now you know they didn't want to answer that question yesterday they were asked Lynch was asked and shanan was asked what if he doesn't show up and they said well we'll deal with that when we get to it well guess what you've crossed that bridge because this is the second straight day he hasn't shown up you have to find him now you have to you can't draw the line in the sand and say get out there and practice you're cleared medically even though we all know you're not hurt and then when he doesn't practice you don't find him you have to find him and I think that the Niners were testing him to see if he wouldn't come to practice he's not there now do they just say forget it we're trading you move on or do they say okay it's one thing to miss practice but we don't think you'll actually miss games if they want to wait that long I don't know but it's ratcheted up a bit now yeah can they retroactively find him for the training camp practices too no because he was hurt right if he's hurt he's hurt and that was the story that they clung to and but now they can and they can find him up to 45,700 something dollars a day because you can find him for missed practices meetings it's the whole thing but it's up to like 457 wow and yeah we'll see if they actually do watching Kyle's press conference yesterday was really eyee openening because when they did ask him about what's going to happen if ba doesn't come to practice today and he was like We'll see and just besides the fact that his body language just he looks like he just found out his whole family died in a car crash uh which dark sorry everybody but like he geez uh but you know when they asked him about what that meant for their roster considerations as they were 50 figuring out the 5050 three and at least he W you know he at least he gave us an honest answer of like yes that did have a fact that factored into everything that we were doing um it just I I just can't believe that this has taken so long I can't believe that it's taken so long Kyle was in full lawyer mode yesterday and you can tell by the way that like he was so frustrated because that's what he does like there's the scene in The West Wing where there's a lawyer and he's questioning somebody and he says do you know what time it is and she says yeah it's 4:30 and he asks her again and he's like do you know what time it is she said 4:30 and he says do you know what time it is and finally she gets what he's trying to get out and she says yes that's where Kyle was it was like hey have you had to make any roster considerations for Brandon auk and normally he might be like yeah you know we kept an extra receiver he just said yes that's how you know he was miserable yep y I don't blame him like he's you know it's I'm sure he's been dealing with us a lot more than we have and certainly we have been dealing with a lot of it did you ever watch Hard Knock when it was the Jets with Rex Ryan back in the day of course I did one of the most famous scenes from that which I absolutely loved because it was so real and honest was when they're negotiating with Rivas who had three years left on his contract at the time and they're getting nowhere and finally Rex is at the table and they're all on speaker phone and he stands up and he's like you know what I'm done we've been talking about this I'm tired of this I got a game to prepare for we're going to go out there and watch what the [ __ ] happens and he leaves the room and there's like 10 seconds of dead silence and finally Mike tanon bomb hangs up the phone and goes well what does the negotiation handbook say to do now fellas is so good but that's I'm sure Kyle feels the way Rex felt I'm sure he's like look you wanted more money we negotiated with you you requested a trade we found a trade you didn't like that trade we found another trade trade you didn't like that trade we found another trade with Pittsburgh like what figure it out what do you want I'm sure he has to be frustrated and that totally came across yesterday uh there's a comment uh I'm gonna pull up fans turned on ba and he deserves it he doesn't deserve it ba is doing what a young NFL player should be doing and trying to get his money and guarantee his his financial future for him his family his legacy all of that the 40 ERS front office should have done this last season when we could have gotten him for 22 to $26 million even if you offered him 28 million in February or 30 million hell offer him 30 million you know the wide receiver Market is going to explode because you can see who the free agents are you you offer him 30 million in February then bam Wadd signs Brown signs Devonte Smith signs all those people Jamar Chase possibly signs cidi lamb possibly signs and all of a sudden you would look at Brand I's contract and you'd be like oh he's the sixth or seventh highest paid wide receiver in one off seon that's the craziest part about all this is he would have looked good at the end of it even if you overpaid in February yeah yeah I mean we and we could have gotten it done after last season too it's just I can't wait for the tell all of the last like 15 years of the 49ers franchise to see just how much power perog has behind the scenes because we again he's the contract guy he's the salary cap Guru right you know he's the he's the Hort and NBA come in to offic to make it make our financial doings efficient and all that but like okay great parag so you've kept you you've done a decent job with the salary cap where's my [ __ ] ring and on top of that I when Jed did his little impromptu presser before the Super Bowl last year I wanted to rip my be out of my face you are not a champion Jed you are not you are a petulant little billionaire child man who kept who who slammed our Super Bowl window shut in the 2010s because your ego couldn't handle Jim Harbaugh telling you who you really are so you you you stuck with the worst GM in the NFL which by the way how Trent balky still has a job is mindblowing to me that's another conversation for another day uh but for you to say that you think Champions after losing as many Super Bowls as you have Kyle's lost twice as many Super Bowls as Harbaugh did when are you going to fire Kyle not that I'm saying that you should but like have some standards Jed where like where's Eddie I want to know what Eddie thinks about this generation of the 49ers well I was asking earlier this week where's Jed like now is when you need your owner to step in and get everybody in a room and tell them by the end of the week this is over whether he's it hurts him uh but that's bad that's really bad that's very very very bad woof I mean we hopefully we get some clarification on the Christian mcaffry thing like is he is this just a rest day or is this like what is the deal there with him because this worrisome it's been a long time so well and maybe it's nothing to be fair like maybe it's nothing but I would like clarification is he hurt how maybe Olivia colbo is getting into another Tik Tok fight about her wedding dress right now was that a thing oh my God that was such a thing did you not hear about that no what happened so Olivia kulo did a uh invited Vogue to the wedding um and she had those three different wedding dress looks and I'm I'm paraphrasing a lot here uh but there was a wedding dress content creator on Tik Tok who was talking about how Olivia kpo is making this like whole effort to be like very um covered up and um it's the word I'm looking for um like formal or uh basically trying like not to be [ __ ] with her wedding dress right and kind of taking it Taking which is a stretch right again I'm paraphrasing but taking a shot at anyone who you know kind of doesn't fit into her like version of divine femininity right and and anyone who's willing to be a a little bit more um adventurous with their expression of their own gender right uh and she got into a huge fight with this content creator like Olivia kpo is said leaving angry comments on this Tik Tok video and eventually Christian mcaffrey got involved was like you're evil for saying all of this and it was pretty ridiculous it was like you invited Vogue to make a documentary about your wedding stop well there's a phrase that I used to tell when I worked at ESPN Radio back in the day especially when I work worked on like Colin cardd or Mike and Mike I would always say don't punch down right like you don't gain anything by doing that and uh apparently that doesn't didn't apply to her CJ says I need Alex on every show for ripping jet I agree 100 per. thank you CJ says the Niners continuously shoot themselves in the foot with this delayed extension policy it hasn't worked for them it hasn't worked for them they set the market with everybody everybody and Tim kokami even said the fact that Nick Bosa smacked them around left them with some sore feelings and feeling like they had to quote unquote win this negotiation with auk which I totally believe I completely believe that's a thing so it's just this is the sorry state of of where we are right now and it's frustrating to continuously be there I wish I had better news but I don't uh oh casan vaugh was just signed to the team's practice squad along with Terrence Marshall Jr I don't like them adding another running back to the to the practice Christian mcaffry is not out there oh no no well uh where's the sky falling GIF good Lord man oh no great just continues it just continues we are 10 days away something like that from the start of the regular season we need something some sort of Good Vibes before the season starts let's let's create our own Good Vibes right now Rob let's let's let's let's say the sky continues falling we don't sign ba we don't sign Trent but perie is who we really think he is and he proves that again this year and he manages to win and lead us to a winning season and leads us to a Super Bowl despite all of the chaos happening around him all right let's let's look at this from an optimistic perspective right now like let's say pie really is that guy all he has done is continued to prove everyone wrong at every turn he was the last pick in the in the [ __ ] draft his rookie year came in in the middle of a game after Jimmy G got hurt led us to would have led us to a Super Bowl were it not for Kyle calling a nine-step drop back on a play action pass and having a backup tight end rehabs has literal Tommy John surgery rehabs for the entire offseason comes back and has an MVP level season last year also Joe flacko winning comeback player of the year is absolutely insane the fact that pie didn't get a single vote last year for that is ridiculous Demar Hamlin came back from the dead and didn't win the award yeah Demar Hamlin should have won that that was also pretty insane um Le let's just like what if what if pie comes out and has a world beater season this year I have to at least hope that that's going to be the case like let's see what he really can do with a full offseason and step into being the de facto leader of this team because without Trent there there is a leadership vacancy that someone has to fill and quite frankly it has to be Brock of course it has to be your quarterback by defin and I hope he does because let's beond like this is also a F this year is a fact finding mission for Brock pie because they have to pay him if you know next year they're going to have to pay him so you want to get as much information as possible that is a silver lining to all this is that like if you're really still not sure if it's Brock or if it's the Avengers well if he goes into the year without ba and without Trent Williams like you really can't make that exact argument anymore that would definitely be a feather in his cap I for the record I don't know if he can if he can be that and if he can do that I honestly don't know that's why I want to see this year I famously refused to declare him the Niners franchise quarterback because I always say I want to see two years I don't count to five games because I saw Jimmy G do it for five games and I'm not I'm not doing that I need to see two years last year great show it to me again and if he does it without ba and Trent Williams for all or part of the year then yeah I would pay him yep yeah uh it will be interesting like as a fan I don't want to see them go into the season without ba or Trent or CMC that's not completely true on CMC because I have my own you know Sinister reasons for that but that's you know that's a separate thing that being said pretty good litmus test of his pry worth $60 million a year 100% so but uh woof I mean it's an unbelievable situation to be in um and again we're not talking about any of this if Kyle scouted Mahomes and we took him in 2017 but revisionist history there's nothing we can do about that now uh it's just you know this is I I I say this all the time Kyle and Jon's ego and Jed and parag's egos are going to be what kills this team and is what's going to be is what's going to be the thing that slams the Super Bowl window shut come on this fact finding Mission with us
