and welcome in everybody glad you're with us today the finale of this three- game weekend set it's the New York Yankees going up against the Oakland Athletics joined by my partner Chris Singleton I'm John shabby so the New York Yankees are in position to sweep this three-game series with a win so Chris what's their mindset heading into today yeah looking to go three for three boo they've already won the series and now they can really leave their Mark it's all about having confidence and that's what a team takes away from a sweep so they're happy to win the series but they'll really be riding high tomorrow with the win today and we'll be back with the first pitch right after this about to get started here and pitching in this one for Oakland Alex Wood and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of situations and get his team back in the Dugout and a pitch and it's even up one one out base is empty swing and a miss he was late strike two well as a hitter you're hoping that the command on that Sinker doesn't come until later in the ball game but if that's how it's going to be all day it's going to be a tough one for the offense two out SP is empty here is Aaron judge and judge spoils that one judge hitting third in the lineup can't forget to mention he's a former MVP right side Elliot moving under it drops into the globe and that is that ready to go for the last half of the inning and now the short stop Logan Davidson and a ground ball to first grizzo steps on the bag and a quick out number one and now the first baseman Ryan NOA he swings and fouls one off you know boo it's nice to see gar Cole on the mound today he finally won a sa Young Award in 2023 and for a while there he seemed like the best pitcher in baseball without the award foul ball it stays nothing in two and Cole's sa Young Award season wasn't a huge surprise either he led the American League and innings pitched ER good things usually happen when you put those two things together and it certainly worked out for him that was just a beautiful fast on the inside corner for that backwards k right there I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle so I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the hard stuff boring in on his hands foul ball there swings through that one it's a strike out nothing doing new inning getting started so now the Yankees cleanup hitter John Carlos Stanton swings through that one wood a former allar he features a sinker a change up and he works in a slider and he swings through that one Gary Simmons has the plate Duty in this one well with Simmons it's not always your standard Strike Zone bu he kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and they can be tigh but I think the important thing is he doesn't get labeled as inconsistent so you got to stay ready up there out to short two up two down on the top of the second that's what a good Sinker designed to do get a guy to roll over a little bit hit the ball on the ground kill some worms while you're at it Anthony Rizzo at the plate with two away swings through that [Applause] one next pitch is outside [Applause] the one- one is fouled off this lineup's going to have to find a way to make him work a little harder out there on the mound I mean he is just mowing oh that's a strike out and that'll do it for the inning two and welcome back to the ballpark and now here is sheay langers late on that fast ball oh one's the count swings and misses and a count is over [Applause] two the wi of the pitch foul ball still o and [Applause] two he goes down looking well he's got great strikeout stuff on the M hasn't he I mean double digit strikeouts in his last start and he's just racking him up again in this one this guy can really dominate a game out there not a fun assignment for any lineup comes up empty no ball [Applause] strike some heat there at 98 milph yeah there's no doubt electric stuff from the jump I mean there's just no messing around right now still very early but we could see a pretty impressive outing here if the strikeouts keep coming in the way they are one thing you have to be aware of though is a high strikeout rate might impact the pitch count as the Innings roll no score here in the second gets a piece there we'll do it again that's out to center field no trouble here puts it away for the out here's Jose trino homered last night added another hit as well and he grounds one to the right side gets it to First and one away in the top of the third and next for New York Anthony vulpi swing and a ball hammered left field that one's back and out of here that'll fire up the Dugout his 22 Homer of the year it's one nothing one pitch one swing one home run yeah you can say that's efficiency right there didn't need much time in the Box to make an impact well he went up there o looking to do damage I think he had his sight set on that pitch he went and got it and circled the [Applause] bases one down and stepping in for the Yankees Oswaldo Cabrera strike one across in the frame so far we're here in the top half of inning number three on the ground oh he gloves it from his knees the and they get the out a quick move to his left fully extended there in front of the short stop to make the grab up with it then a strong accurate throw across the diamond to complete this highlight play so the lineup flips over up to the plate steps DJ lahu slic to right makes the play and it's out number three one scores in the inning coming on this solo home run it's now one- nothing you're dialed into the show striding to the plate now for Oakland Lawrence Butler and a foul ball the pitch swing in a Miss as he was late that time [Applause] runs it up to 96 to record the punch out thought it was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we're seeing more fasts in that location hitters especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger and a couple of quick outs digging in for Oakland Jason Rosario and that's in there for strike one good zip on that fast at the bottom of the Zone if he's there it's going to be a tough one for the leers late on that fast ball ball two strike fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two the A's trailing by a run here in the last half of the third and a swing to miss down on strikes Oakland go here's woto 0 for one he struck out swinging last time swing and a miss Strike One S 25 years old and he's a former home run derby champ next offering is down low and the pitch wouldn't chase that time rocking it out towards Right Center that's a base hit and on the leadoff single showed some really nice patience and that it bad worked himself into a good count solid swing from start to end on time with everything really good balance nice extension and he made it out front for the line drive knock F back ourway and that's out of play here comes a pitch now it's belty e left way out of here home run a gigantic blast his 59th home run of the season it's three nothing Chris he's homed in backto back games now yep seeing the ball well and he's got his timing locked in he's looking pretty dangerous at the dish right [Applause] now a good hitter gets pitch recognition early he saw exactly where that was going to be the challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing he stayed on it and got all of it John Carlos Stanton at the plate swing and a miss and that one missed by a ton can be tough to bounce back after big home run but nobody on nobody out you just have to treat it as a fresh inning no nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame here in the third and final game of the series that's foul off to the right side keeps the ab [Music] going that's off the mark one and two the count [Applause] oh what a stop to his knee the throw and that's a great play for the out but he looks so comfortable making that play Dives comes up with it and then from one knee like he's just playing catch with his kid nice throw across the DI of first here is glaver Torres and first offering is fouled off good take by Torres one Yankees up by three top half of inning number four that one in the dirt and it's two and one the other way and that's a base hit so they get a man aboard with a one out single love how he let that ball travel trusted his hands nice job of going the other way in the air left field Fair ball they get it in quickly so first and second now one out here's the catcher Jose trino rolled out to second in his first at back and there's a foul ball Runners at first and second with one [Applause] gone check swing he went too far and it's a strike foul ball it stays nothing in [Applause] two the pitch on the ground right side and that chance handled gathers and throws the first awesome play there that was a productive at bat you know you're doing something right anytime you help move two Runners into scoring position and give your team a chance to drive in a few runs even if it's still kind of early in the game second and third two down ground ball left side with the throw to first that ends the inning and they limit the damage another look at the long ball for the Yankees it's now 3 nothing you're watching Major League Baseball on the show here's Logan Davidson the pitch fast ball for a strike well after scor roll this is where you're looking for that shut down inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats that's ripped base hit so a runner aboard to start the [Applause] inning next up for the A's Ryan Nota ground ball right side could be two to Second and it pulls the short stop off the bag there to beat him by an eyelash striding to the plate now for Oakland Zack Gill out there to Center judge is under it and there's two [Applause] down and now a chance for Shay langers pitches in there one one if I'm at the dis right now I am aggressive over the heart of the plate this guy's been filling up the strike zone so you know you're going to get a good pitch to hit and is nasty as the stuff is you might as well take all three swings [Applause] got him swinging picks up strikeout number seven one hit one left we played Four Yankees three and the A's so digging in Oswaldo Cabrera grounded out his first time up off the plate inside and that's ball one Ki sand and another ball big swing and a miss good late sink on that fast out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in the H Zone hard to get the barrel to it Davis whips it across one up one down and now it's DJ lahu digging in swing and he breaks his back wood brings it in and there's two down Juan sto getting ready to hit he has as they like to say let me guess boo Light Tower Power the pitch and that one is lifted in the air and it drops in around first digging for two throws to second in safely it's a double and his hit you got to get on your horse and get to that ball and get it back in because he's going to come barreling around first and put some pressure on you if you bble it or you don't get there in a hurry it's going to make you look silly and end up on second base judge lays off down low as he digs in for the third time ripped to third but handled and that will end the now it's JD Davis Cole back to work swing off the middle that's a base hit so a man on base to start the inning here's Miguel and doar on the ground to the left and it goes just foul you know these A's just lacking discipline at the pl in this ball game they've been chasing pitches outside the Zone all game and it's led to some frustrating moments they've been fooled quite a bit today Torres over to second on to Rizzle at first and hit the double play so now here's the DH Lawrence Butler and that one fouled off the Athletics trailing by three last half of inning number five that one back up the middle and it gets through digging in for Oakland Clark Elliot and that's in for a strike that one ripped and base hit so that's two straight two out hits oh a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he's trying to do at this point is help his team win swing and a miss oh and two he finds in a tough situation early just going of try to simplify it take a knock the other way if you can judge is there pulls it down and he makes the catch so a new pitcher on the M for the A's Kyle Muller and as go he's not a big strikeout guy tries to force weak contact so command and execution are huge for him now the Box comes up empty with a swing [Applause] there and he swings and lifts one to deep center field that one back there forget it a massive home run and they tack one on the board it's four nothing that's their third home run of the game they're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they've got the long ball working for them on autopilot so impressive how he was able to go down and get this fast B but yet get it up in the air h far enough to get out of this ballark labor Torres up to hit one for two first pitch misses always exciting to see a leadoff home run and an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning in the air out to Center Rosario has a beat on it and there's one down and here is Anthony Rizzo first offering misses badly for ball one activity in the bullpen Joe Bo getting loose out there Harris getting cranked up as well swings through that one and one [Applause] in the air center field Rosario should have this one he makes the grab out number two the catcher number 39 and up next for New York J trino this guy one of the best defensive catchers going you talk about framing the ability to block catch and throw he is at the top of the game swing and a miss chased it out of the Zone really good athlete and many times we talk about you know the feet of infielders this catcher as well really quick feet he's able to recognize the pitch see the trajectory and get into a spot where he can block those balls and keep them from going to the back stop down to the dirt swing and a miss on to First In Time the two3 strikeout ends the inning but the solo shot stretches their lead even further it's now a 4 nothing ball game you're watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show and here is Logan Davidson and a pitch that one finds the Zone strike one really impressive with the way he frames the way that he sets it up because sometimes those pitches are off the plate because he sets up and presents it so well he's steel strikes for his pitcher popped up lahu under it and there's one away so up next Ryan Nota that's in there that's strike one well on the mound very efficient able to produce an outcome it seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every bat fly ball down the line Soo going after it pulls it down and there's two gone two outs B is empty next up for the A's Zack gell line drive and that's a base hit out of center field and that keeps the inning going and here's the catcher Shay langers fast ball for a strike swings through that one for strike two oh two the count [Applause] got him looking for the K called strike three and a fast now it's the short stop Anthony vulpi he's already homered in this game and he deals oh that got away from him and he's going to reach on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning and next for New York Oswaldo Cabrera [Applause] lifted in the air right center [Applause] field makes the grab one down so the batting order turns over here's DJ lameu swing and a miss and it's one Muer the tall Lefty 26 years old and he was a second round pick back in 2016 two at the belt and fires it's down on strikes and now two gone man it first and stepping in for the Yankees ju [Applause] sto that one finds the Zone strike he's been known to jump all over the first pitch so that seems like a missed opportunity right there [Applause] swing in a Miss might be time to choke up a little bit get that front foot down early maybe even just spread out he's really late right now that ends the frame JD Davis now at the plate got it started a little too early strike one hitting is all about anticipation and right now this lineup is struggling with it their swings are mimed and it's produced a few ugly Cuts here and there throws to First in time and they get the lead off hitter in the seven bounce to the right Torres slings to first two up two down two outs Bas is empty now the a designated hitter Lawrence Butler that one pushed to the left and foul he's controlling things out there on the mound not messing around at all he's been in attack mode since the very start and a swinging a Miss there no ball two [Applause] strikes two down nobody on here the bottom of the seven swaging a miss the velocity blasted it right past him now it's Aaron judge up to the plate he's already homered here in this one meller back to work and that's off the Inside Edge and that is ball one hard ground ball base knock and the lead off man aboard just a simple ground ball the other way they had eyes on it man sometimes that's all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole swing and a Fly ball in the air out towards right side center field Elliot pulls it down one [Applause] away man it first now it's the second baseman glabber Torres one for three and the first offering is not close out towards right center field Rosario sizes this one up puts it away for the [Applause] out so a man aboard Anthony Rizo stepping in now for the Yankees swings through that one for strike one oh and [Applause] one and down the line and no one can get to it it's a foul [Applause] ball Feld two swing in a miss and he's down on strikes striding to the plate now for Oakland Clark Elliot down the line and that's a foul ball so he's back out to begin the eighth a really nice outing for him so far singy he's thrown the ball really well kept hitters off balance and he's been very efficient with that pitch count but at this point even though it's been relatively low you start keeping an eye on it to make sure that he doesn't have any fatigue and injuring himself swings and misses couldn't catch up to the heater so digging in Jason Rosario and there's the strike no action in the bullpen though looks like they're going to let him stay out there [Applause] down looking really love the PIP sequence right there I'm telling you what pitcher and catcher on the same page right now Davidson in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike right through there for a strike two out that's toward Center judge has it sized up makes the grab and that'll end the inning so out of the pan comes the rander Trevor well he's been a bit of a wild there terms throwing strikes he's definitely struggled with three passes this year trino stands in here tried to hold back his swing there but went around [Applause] swings and misses struck him out yeah that's pretty sick late cutting action to get the swing and Miss right there I mean that's just really hard to account for as a hitter when you're seeing the fast all the way and then just at the last moment it Darts Away from you and you can't reach it checks his swing now it appeal to First did not go face is empty one away here the top of the N that's outside now three and one swing and a miss look off balance that time count down base is empty swinging a miss and he struck him out and there two outs now the left fielder Oswaldo [Applause] Cabrera gets him to chase after that one and [Applause] one next offering is downstairs I got a ball one strike the pitch and it's fou away two down nobody G comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt that completes the strikeout inning over now the number two hitter Ryan Nota and a strike in there well they' kept him pretty quiet in this series still doesn't have a knock I know you want to get that first knock out of the way maybe moral calm but you got to give some credit to the pitching staff they've had a great plan against it line in the pitch foul ball still o and two this pitcher has done a good job of disrupting The Hitter timing with the mix of pitches and changing speeds you want to keep that front foot inconsistent for the batter their swings are hesitant and that's exactly what you want on the M swing and that ball smashed on the line that's a hit I'd say a mistake pitch in an 02 count too good of a pitch to hit right there you have to expand the Zone keep that lead up man off first base gell in the box now no balls in a strike swing and a miss and that strike two you're going to get something going this is the time to do it you get the leadoff man on oh can't pick it up cleanly the batter now Shay langier double play ball to Second there's one on to Rizo at first and they get the double play I think four 63 double plays like that are way tougher than these guys make it look sometimes because no matter how you do it the feed from the second Bas is a tough that's where footwork really comes into play but right there very well done I mean his pitch efficiency ability to get ahead and count at times pitch to on the ground and this should do it step the bag himself ball game it has become increasingly difficult to throw a complete game shut out because of all of the offensive prowess that these hitters are showing around the league today but he had total command of this game and he saw it all the way through to the end nice win a four nothing shut out in this one and the road team picks up the win and picks up a sweep for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the Show thanks for stopping by I'm John shie talk to you soon
