Tyron Smith spoke for the first time as a New York Jet today and I believe his latest comments really make the cow boys look a little bit worse after their free agency blunder and tonight on the show we will talk offensive line from a gas glass half empty half full point of view ladies and Gentlemen let's get to it here we [Music] go what is up every everyone and welcome into adz sports Dallas talks on Cowboys football and tonight I want to look at the offensive line room and more than more than the offensive line room everything that stems from the Tyrant Smith decision in a glass half empty view followed by a glass half full View and I'll tell you how we'll go about that we'll talk about what Tyrant Smith had to say to reporters today when he spoke to them for the first time since in signing with the New York Jets leaving the Cowboys in free agency a controversial decision that a lot of people have not agreed with I am one of those people I'll admit it I it's one of my least favorite decisions that they have made over the last few years not even this offseason just over the last few years but I want to close it out we're going to do a mock draft today we're going to do a PFF Mock Draft simulator run two rounds and I want to illustrate the glass half full aspect of it because I think the Cowboys are making a risky bet a bet that I don't agree with for a very particular reason but they're likely going to hit on their bet and I'll explain to you what I mean in a in a little bit but before let me say hi let me talk to you about what Tyron Smith had to say we're going to play some clips as well here in a little bit uh but shout out Kath Ina who has joined the chat we've also got toxic Tom we've got Joe who else do we have around here we've got uh none other than Jared also in the chat who says the Jones have made the cowboy sick with a disease toxic says I cannot remember the last time that I have been this that I have been this unexcited about an upcoming season and I do think you're on to something very toxic because I do think a lot of us feel the same way Bruce shout out to you sir thank you so so much for joining the show as well how about we take a listen to what Tyron Smith had to say and why I believe his comments made the Cowboys look even worse for context well I don't think you need context but let's get to it though I'll be honest I'm not sure if I've got the Clips in the right order so let's risk it here we go honestly uh I was let my age handled most of that stuff I was trying to I had a lot of things going on at the time but um I just know my main options was either going to be in Dallas or the Jets and um for what things were looking in Dallas I knew most likely be the Jets and I honestly got excited for the new chapter in my life I know Tyron is a man of few words but here's what that clip tells me and just taking into context with all else that he said Tyrant Smith entered free agency perceived as the top tackle in the market and I believe he really was in the sense that despite the injury concerns despite the age concerns Tyron Smith being out there on the field is an All Pro Caliber player to this day because he earned second team Old Pro honors in 2023 and did so while looking honestly pretty dominant like he had a a legit case to have been First Team all pro and beat Trent Williams in that race I'm not saying it was a SN or anything like that because Trent Williams is an objectively great player but you know what I mean but that clip tells me that it wasn't a bidding war out there for tyrant Smith there were not a lot of teams that were interested in number 77 and I will admit I thought there was going to be more of a bidding war I thought teams like the Kansas City Chiefs were going to be more involved in that race I thought teams like the Green Bay Packers might have been more involved in that race and several other teams that we could Point towards that I would as that I would have assumed that Tyrant would have had more than two legitimate contenders especially because one of those two legitimate contenders to sign him was Dallas Cowboys and I would have expected more out of the market and yet the Cowboys did not want to win in a bidding war for the services of number 77 mind you we've talked about this the contract was pretty doable because yes a lot of people will say they don't have the salary c space they don't have this they won't have that the Cowboys could make the salary cap space they're just basically lying to you when they go out there and they say that they couldn't do it because of the salary cap so I was a little bit disappointed at Tyron basically confirming that that was it it was Jets versus Cowboys and then I would say that this might be reading too much into it but knowing the Cowboys and knowing the timing of how the dominoes fell I will say I don't think I'm reading too much into it but tyron's saying like the way that things were looking with Dallas it definitely seem like it was going to be the Jets makes us feel like there's confirmation on Haws falling apart immediately at the NFL scouting combine because both sides came with very different numbers in mind which is insane to me hear me out for a second here what is the logic behind the Cowboys valuing of Tyron Smith I really do not understand how the numbers work out because after a season where he was banked up before the regular season began in 2022 where he missed most of the year and when he did return he was forced to play right tackle for the first time since 2011 how how do you exit that season and conclude that this guy needs to rework deal because of what he is giving you so the price goes down because of what he has given you and then he goes out there bounces back second team Old Pro season plays 14 games a major upgrade compared to 2022 is ready to go for the playoffs you seem to have struck gold in a in terms of a practice plan that works for the better end how do you see all that and then are like oh the the value is unchanged or the value is actually lower I really don't get it uh it might have been because of the likel to be earned incentives but even that you know we Circle back to the same thing about it being about the cap number in which they refuse to be more proactive in which they refuse to be more aggressive because they've got the money obviously to do an incentive deal like the Jets did and that's another part of it Tyrant Smith signed for $6.5 million 13 A5 in incentives and I would have thought and I was wrong with this too I would have thought the Tyrant was not GNA do the same type of incentive deal but listening to him once more we kind of find out that that was tyrant's plan all along and that he's fine with it take a listen I'm just I'm just actually excited just to be on the team to be able to have opportunity to continue playing um but also yes the way my contract is is speaks for what happen for what's been happening for the past couple years and uh honestly I think it's a fair deal and you know it's the same I just got to go out there and prove that I can continue playing at the high level that they expect me to so no bidding war no problem with an incentive type deal the Cowboys just didn't want to pay the money and it kind of sucks when it's 6 and A5 million guaranteed and as much as I would like like to be all about the cold business of football and making the right decisions with no sentimental aspect to the decisions there's also a very crappy look for the Cowboys in the sense that this is the guy that signed an eight a a very long-term deal with you and he maybe shouldn't have done it because that's not the way the NFL Market was trending towards back then never said a word when you asked for a rework deal he he said you know what you're right I'm a company man let me rework my deal and now you're just showing him the the door even though he's asking for essentially Cashwise at least the same deal that you signed him to last year you're not even trying to return the favor which is not really that big of a favor when it's coming from a second team Old Pro tackle and toxic Tom says that's such a look you lowballing your respected bed who was able who was also an all pro who took a discount his whole career and you f him brutal why don't you take why you don't take discounts says uh toxic Tom oh yeah man there are there are fans out there there are fans out there that still want players to take discounts for teams when there's no loyalty AR at all uh from football teams but I but I also don't want to make it seem like I'm upset at the Cowboys for not being loyal to Tyrant smid I'm upset at them not being aggressive enough in the salary cap and and in the way that they spend money to take a flyer on Tyrant Smith and even with the risk of injury just try to pay up and try to have that caliber of talent in a year you're supposed to go all in which obviously you're not doing and we know that but again forget about the o T in a season where you're supposed to be in win now Mo forget about the conversations about whether or not the window is closing blah blah blah you're a team that has won 12 games in backto backto back years you're a team that is perceived as a contender within the NFC you just don't want to keep an Old Pro Caliber player even with the injury of uh even with the injury risk I just don't see how that makes sense at all because again this is not somebody that went out there and signed for 10 million plus guaranteed which by the way was the projections from adz Sports the projection from PFF people were expecting Tyron to sign for more guaranteed money and he ended up settling for6 and a half million doll that is where you go what is the cow what is the team doing what are the Cowboys doing it's it's one of the most frustrating decisions that I've seen in a few years and I've compared it to the Amari Cooper one you know maybe the Amari Cooper one was much worse but man I still don't agree with it but you know what you know what we might have we might have uh you know been in this tone for a good while now on the show so I don't want to do a glass half empty type of of show for the entirety of tonight so we're going to turn the page a little bit and we're going to look at it glass half full wise now before we do that though let me read some of your comments because I know there's a lot of interesting takes about uh Tyron Smith Andrew Mosley says thank you Tyron Smith but you are hurt all the time except for 14 games last year and the playoffs you know that's where I'm like again with even with the injury risk I would have done it I absolutely would have done it and I think that the Cowboys should have as well for sure uh cam says he wanted to stay idiots don't know s about loyalty is Cam man I also think he wanted to stay Kevin says wish number 77 was in for one more year it's one of the and I'm going to put the fan cap on a little bit here and leave aside like the objective aspect of it it's one of those that when the Tyron Smith video came out I was like man I'm not watching it you know like and I know I will I'll Circle back to it and I'll watch their trived video for tyrant Smith but when they when they posted it and everyone was retweeting it and everything I was like you know what I'll retweet it so more people can see it but man I'm just I'm just not in the mood of watching it you know I'm just not in the mood of watching it now Holly says Mo you about to service some opium just a little bit not not I'm not gonna try to hide the fact that I don't like how the Cowboys have handled this but I'm trying to look at it from the Cowboys point of view and the chip point of view if you want to call it that and try to break down why I think their crucial bed kind of makes sense in a way in their way again not that I like it not Mak sense in the in the sense that like it but in the sense that how I think things are going to shake out and why I think the Cowboys are confident in that they're going to shake out the way that they want to once the NFL draft comes around and in fact now that I think about it I'm gonna flip it a little bit so I was going to do the two round mock and then I was going to do the crucial bet segment I will tell you what I what is what is on my mind and then we will do the mock draft and we'll try to basically show what we are if the hypothesis how right the hypothesis is so here it is the Cowboys need offensive line help in a big way they need a center unless they settle for Hoffman sltj bass which could be an option they need a guard if they kick Tyler Smith outside or they need a tackle if they leave Tyler Smith inside I don't think they're going to decide what 73 does first and then draft they're going to see what Falls to them 24th overall and then decide what's going to happen with Tyler Smith I don't think I am saying anything that everyone hasn't thought about already but hear me out to make that sort of bet and and forget about free agency because if the cowboy sign somebody in free agency it's like a different kind of bet it's not a starter type bet even if they go and at mikai beckton in free agency sure there could be some upside there he could be a great tackle if he stays healthy but it's more of an upside bet more than it is you know oh we want mikai Beckman to be our 2024 starter that is not the way you should really go about it just like roll the dice on him if you want but here's what I'm getting to you need all those three you need a tackle you need a center you need a guard and it's going to sound a little bit mediocre but you do have a better shot at Landing a best player available scenario if you need any one of those three you know you're not looking at just tackles and that is the benefit that Tyler Smith brings to the table ideally sure you wouldn't move him because he's finding himself as a guard he's playing better as a guard All Pro year and all that but here's the math that I you know basically just scribbled around in my in my uh notebook here and I used the consensus board and I used grinding the mocks both sides that try to use data to predict the well Big Board sort the consensus Big Board is different because he tries to rank just who are the best players it's not a mock draft but I also looked at grinding the mock to make it extra Fair grinding the mock is a website that what he tries to do is he tries to scrape thousands of mock drafts thousands thousands of mock drafts and they need to sign some weight to expert Mar and some weight to just fan marks because I think the the stat statistic effect that they use is like the wisdom of the crowds and how in the aggregate the crowds can actually be pretty spoton uh you know using thousands and thousands of mock drafts so anyways I I mentioned this because in the top 30 of both grinding the mocks and the consensus boards there are nine offensive line that is a lot and I'll run through the list here very quickly Joe Alt from notm The Tackle ol fanu from P from Penn State you've got Ty fuaga from Oregon State JC laam from Alabama amarus memes from Georgia there's Troy Fano that's my guy from Washington Jackson Powers Johnson from Oregon Tyler and those are all top 24 by the way uh at list in the consensus board and then Tyler guy and gr Baron are all top 30 players again both in the consensus board and on grinding the mocks I think this is important because when you've got nine linemen your chances of having one of them at least land at 24th they're looking better and you know we're talking about a Players whose value are actually pretty pretty solid like if you get a top 30 Prospect at 24th overall I don't think that qualifies as reaching for somebody and again who knows what the Cowboys and the NFL teams Boris actually look like but this is what we're working with uh tonight here's where it gets better right nine offensive lineman in the top 30 it's 30% basically of um of of of the prospects that that you know 30% of the top 30 offensive lineman sounds pretty good sound pretty solid plus you've got some logs that I think are absolutely going before 24th overall now I'm not gonna enter players like Nate Wiggins in here who we don't know if he's gonna go top 20 top 24 top 30 or if he's gonna drop to the second round I'm not goingon to use names like I'm trying to think of somebody else that that applies to this lie to the edge rusher from UCLA not going to include him here I'm talking about just straight up the absolute logs that I consider that are going to go before 24th overall I think four quarterbacks are off the board maybe three if you want to be super peaky but I do think Drake May Caleb Williams jayen Daniels and even JJ mcarthy are all going before the Cowboys are on the clock I do think Malik neighbors Marvin Harrison Jr and roma dun are all going before the Cowboys pick at wide receiver I do think J uh vers Jared vers and Dallas Turner The Edge rushers are going before the Cowboys pick and I do think Brock Bowers is going at tight end I think he's Flores 18th with the Cincinnati Bengals so saying that you know you've got nine linemen 12 players from other positions that I can see their logs before the Cowboys are on the clock that's basically 21 picks that we're talking about there is just no way in hell that the Cowboys are wiped out at offensive line when they get on the clock at 24 the overall there's just no way and I know this shouldn't make us feel better I'm not trying to justify what the Cowboys are doing but as I said warrn you from the beginning this is like the glass half full point of view where you're like at 24th the Cowboys are going to have somebody if they go offensive that we're going to be happy with I really don't think that there is a scenario where the Cowboys are like well we absolutely need an offensive lineman but we just cannot go with offensive line here we just can't I don't think that scenario exists and I'm not trying to defend going against BPA I'm not trying to defend any of that I'm just trying to say I find it very hard to believe the Cowboys don't find an off an starting offensive lineman when they pick a 24th now let's see if the hypothesis is right though and let's let's start doing a two round mock draft here with the simulator from Pro Football Focus so let me see if this is looking well it's actually not let me adjust very quickly there you go this should look better or actually what if we do this and then I just take down the overlay this is going to be better I think so let's go we're going to pick the Cowboys we're going to do two rounds we're going to take it all the way down to slow because otherwise I just hate it uh public versus PFF board let's just do it somewhere there in between care for precision of Valley I think I like that draft for needs I'm going to take it a little bit lower maybe somewhere around there Randomness I'm just not gonna touch it because I just don't know what to expect if I touch it uh so I'm just going to go Cowboys 24th overall let's run this mck draft man let's fix the Cowboys here very quickly I wonder who the Bears are going to pick H I'm just kidding but actually let me zoom out a little bit so we can get more picks in there on the screen so let's go Chicago burs on the clock they take Caleb Williams UNS surprisingly commanders go QB they go with Jayden Daniels instead of Drake M it's gonna be one of the most interesting decisions in the draft obviously we're not going to do trades though radansa before Marvin and Har Marvin Harrison is just insane I could see but not not Rome although I do love Rome Titans go to Dallas Turner so there goes the first offensive lineman back-to-back offensive lineman at eight and nine I'm just gonna pause here very quickly and I'm gonna say this pick number 10 for the New York Jets I absolutely hope they go with a skilled prision player for Aaron roders like my NFL fan is that's what I want to see there uh so top 10 we've got two offensive linemen off the board both tackles uh for some people fuaga is a guard so we'll see how that plays out but let's call him a tackle for now so okay Broncos on the clock 12th overall they go with Jared bur so that's an edge rusher there tyon Arnold was one of the two quarterbacks that I thought are absolute lcks to go before the Cowboys pick him and quen John Mitchell who goes there 15 there's another tackle already of the board that's Olu fanu at 14th o Troy fanu 17th JC ladam also goes here at 18th so very quickly man damage report right we've got one two three four five offensive linemen of the board out of the nine that we talked about the remaining names amarius mes who kind of fits what the Cowboys like in my opinion Jackson pow Johnson Tyler gon and Graham Barton right so let's go ahead and let's reassume this 19th overall amarus memes oh this is this is getting dangerous now but not that dangerous because we're gonna get some one of these guys am mari's memes 20th was quite the change up because I was thinking I was going to go with am mari's memes that by by the way things we're going so we're going offensive line and I think we do I think that fits what we would do best player available wise there's Tyler gon who if I'm making the pick for what I think the Cowboys would do I think gon would be the guy here don't think any one of these other guys would intrig the Cowboys enough to go off script it it feels like a pretty basic mck draft that we got from the computer here so I think it comes down to Jackson pow Johnson grah Barton and Tyler gon I do think man if the Cowboys are making this pick it's gon I think it's guen for the Cowboys maybe I should have established some rules as to what I would do personally though so I kind of like Jackson Powers Johnson man I would go I I kind of would go with jpj what do you guys think in the chat help me make this decision help me make this decision the thing about a gan though is that are you are you choosing between Tyler's does it feel like this to you am I choosing between Tyler gon and Tyler Smith to play left tackle kind of feels like that to me and I don't know if that kind of uh counts but hey I'll go with jpj I think is says jpj for mimo future Old Pro Stephen white says ghost Center Kevin eel say pow is the 24th I kind of agree with with you guys on this one I'll say this though I'll say this though don't rule this one out just don't rule this one out the Cowboys could very well go off script and do this Adonai Mitchell at 24th man I could see it I could see them doing that not even sharing an opinion what I think about that but I could absolutely see them doing that so let me grab Jackson Powers Johnson there we go we've got our lineman and draft advances grah Barton by the way uh there's been some controversy as to what he exactly is gonna play at the next level some people perceive him as a straight up tackle some people say his arms are too short they're sub 33 Ines and the thing about that is like everyone seems to have a different take on that you listen to Scouts you listen to coaches you listen to Duke manyweather and some people say it's 35 Ines some people say it's 34 inches some people say it's 33 so you kind of like depends on your school of thought Grant Barton could play tackle though so far though I don't think we're seeing any surprises here you guys are following along in the screen right now sack Fraser another Center goes there a 39th o the BYU tackle at Green Bay wait that's that's intense right there because the Packers in this simulation they took a tackle also above didn't they from what I remember savior oh at 45th before Keon Coleman at 46th all right now here's a wide receiver run going on here railand T man by the way don't rule out an edge rusher at the second round I think people are not I think I obviously understand understand the idea of the Cowboys going for going for a linebacker a defensive tackle here in the second because it kind of fits like the values that we're going to see however I wouldn't oh that's painful uh I wouldn't rule out an edge rusher that's painful man Edan Cooper going at 55 how about that man how how do Cowboys fans feel about that can you imagine how painful that would be on draft night edrian Cooper toxic says Mo should we hire Shan's interpreter clearly not because clearly not because what if what if what they're pitching is true and and he just doesn't know how to bet I really don't think it's true man that's that's way too suspicious I'm not gonna lie all right let's see what we've got here though um man I kind of hate that they use like the PFF board there cuz I kind of like always I'm afraid of missing out on somebody that that I didn't intend to miss out on Ricky piol going at 53rd would fire me up H not to the Eagles though I really like Ricky and and Ricky is one of those guys that just following along the college season I was like this guy is likely like a round two Prospect and then I was surprised to see him have like day three grades everywhere and undrafted grades and I was like okay that's weird but now we're kind of seeing uh him rise man linebackers they they also took Peyton Wilson from what I can see here let me confirm going up here pton Wilson went 33rd that's that's rough what about the defensive tackles though some surprised I'm not seeing some of the defensive tackles here did like tandre sweat go in the first or what so jerar Newton Jeran Newton did go in the first I don't think dandre sweat is off the board he could be a solid option here in my opinion so let's see what we've got around here there's um tandre sweat is an option I think here at defensive tackl man he's very low on the PFF board which I'm surprised by could the Cowboys double dip at offensive line could see it could they go with Jeremiah Trotter I would be intrigued about that right there who else am I missing man I got to go deep here because again man um you never know with this board who you're going to miss out on if you don't take your time to look at it I don't want I don't want to I don't want us losing out on the right Prospect Matt gon Calis look at him ranking 110 this guy 30 bit for the Cowboys intriguing one because he doesn't have the arm length that you know that that um that we're used to seeing with the Cowboys so I could see the Cowboys uh not taking him but interesting that he was one of the first 30 visits that we learned about all all right I think I'm going to go back to the same page now I'm I'm thinking of sweat I really like sweat I would consider sweat in the first round if you were wiped out at offensive lineman uh which we have established they're not gonna be how do I go back to the first page all right who did I miss AR Isaac like sure I think I guess I could see it right I guess I could see Isaac there but man looking at the board here who would be like the BPA and I'm kind of struggling with that question right now again I am leaning I am leaning to vandre sweat but I gotta make sure at what we're doing here because man to me that he's a top 50 guy I find it very hard you know how to go with sweat here and then there's Trotter who I guess could make some sense but I'm also not convinced of about Trotter in the second round all right guys I'm also looking at the chat and I fear for my safety cam says better draft sweat Stephen White says sweat uh somebody else had already called for sweat in the chat as well Stephen say Z in there no Trotter he doesn't want Trotter he doesn't want Trotter uh toxic says they will take Brooks from from Texas man I think second round is way too rich for Jen Brooks I'm not going to lie I wouldn't do that I wouldn't do that I see the Cowboys doing it right Jonathan Brooks here we go here we go let's draft him no I'm not gonna I refuse to participate in such an activity so instead we are going with sweat if we ever find him though here man I lost him again all right here we go tandre sweat so they is this is our Hall this is our Hall and you know what I'm going to say something that I'm not sure I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to say something you know just gut feeling right now I am GNA say if you make me choose which uh position out of left tackle left guard and Center I'm more comfortable not being 100% or not having a replacement I will go with left guard like if I got a kick Tyler SMI to left tackle and have Jackson Powers Johnson at Center and then TJ bass playing left guard I think that's one of the most comfortable setups that I can have in 2024 personally and that's because one I do trust Tyler to hold on at left tackle like it's gonna be a downgrade and I kind of hate that I wish we were not downgrading a left tackle but I think Tyler can hold his own and if I've got Jackson Powers Johnson I think it's an upgrade over Tyler Vates personally maybe you know you're gonna go through some rookie growing paints but I do think you're gonna end up in a better spot than with Tyler Vates and left guard and this is more of a t TJ boss take more than anything else that dude looks comfortable at left guard so I'm not going to minded a whole lot so there you go looks like a very realistic possibility if you if you ask me you see says you're a gangster tonight Mo man you guys like the you guys liked it I'm happy with it then I'm happy with it I'm not not gonna be I don't think the Cowboys are going to be exonerated from what they've done this off season toxic says Mo have you met the front office they are Beyond stupid in this round hey I I see where you're going though masi and sweat together though that's something that I can live with that's something that I can be okay with so there you go Jackson pow Johnson in the first hypothesis confirmed we we had our choice between two of those top lineman actually three if we include grah Barton right because Gran Barton didn't go I think before we picked yeah grah Barton went one pick later so we had three quality offensive line choices is at 24th overall that's kind of like what we were talking about with the bet they're making last half full yes I admit to it I confess to it but it might give us some Tranquility in the sense that the Cowboys are very likely gonna find an offensive lineman and they're gonna get good solid value for it as well so there you go ladies and gentlemen we fix the Cowboys just kidding but we we we did what we could and that will be it for me tonight here on adz Sports Dallas prime time that will be it for me for the week as well I will be back on Sunday night 8:00 pm Central here on adz Sports Dallas prime time next week we've got a lot in store including a look at the updated roster for the Cowboys and some takes on what are the weakest positions what are the strongest positions we'll look at it position by position maybe we'll even break it down into two shows so we can have a more in-depth discussion uh we'll see we gota we gotta plan it out over the weekend uh thank you to everyone in the chat shout out Stephen shout out Holly toxic everyone in the chat for your support everyone who doesn't go into the chat section who just watches appreciate you just as much and shout out to the podcast audience as well I'll see you to not tomorrow on Sunday bye-bye
