developing now Husker fans responding as volleyball star Harper Murray G gives her side of the story as the first game of the season has tipped off ESPN with an article this morning giving Murray a chance to share her struggles Channel 8's Courtney scne is live from where fans are gathered to watch the game tonight Courtney uh what are you hearing from them yeah Rod I'm here at the endzone where they're showing the Husker volleyball season opener I also spoke to several people around who have differing opinions about Harper Murray's controversies and how she plans to bounce back she recognized it she discussed it with her teammates and even with fans and she has been really open about the whole situation which makes her such a good role model a new article from ESPN gives readers a backstory to Harper Marie's controversies and her struggle with mental illness in the spring Marie was charged with a DUI and for shoplifting she's in a diversion program for the shop liting charge and was sentenced to 9 months probation for the DUI in the article Maurice States she's not glad it happened but she says without her legal troubles she might not have gotten the help she needed at the end of the piece she says quote I think part of my healing process is learning to love volleyball again and I think that will come when I learn how to love myself more too a recent documentary called No Place Like Nebraska focuses on the highs and lows of the last Husker season the director Jen Carson says Harper wanted to sit down and talk about what happened in the spring it was easy to say hey Harper we care about you and also Harper we have to have this in here and she her her mom and the coaching staff understood that and really embraced it and felt like this was important not just for Husker volleyball but really as it relates to mental health other Husker fans say what happened was a wakeup call for Murray All Eyes being on her I think she kind of knows that now I think it was more of like a reality check where it's like she knows now her impact and I think she could definitely take that and make something out of it and like build off that and just I think she has so much po potential to be such a good leader and like just grow on the team one student tells me he thinks Marie should have received a harsher punishment I personally think that there maybe should have been a little more consequence for her I feel like they kind of let her off a little too easy but he thinks Murray has overcome the worst Oscar Frans telling me today that they think Harper Murray has healed enough to make a legendary comeback for this season reporting here in Lin Courtney scoria Channel 8 news all right thank you Courtney Ellie
