okay so strawberries it is so we did these two I had to take a break cuz I had a birthday party so for the strawberries here are the colors that I picked that we may or may not use all these colors on all the berries so some berries I may use some others I may use other colors okay so the colors are white 927 118 10003 922 923 924 989 1301 n922 925 and a yellow PCA or yellow gel pen if you want to use the yellow you can use green you can use orange you can use black you can use white in the end you'll see we're going to use that for the seeds but we're not going to do that on all the berries there's another Berry that I'm going to show you an unripened strawberry or a semi- ripened strawberry where I'm going to use a different color for the seeds so I'll let you pick your seed color color I'm going to do yellow PCA which this is my pen here so it is the 1 millimeter bullet tip so it's the little one it's the fine tip so I could show you that case you're curious It's a little baby tip there can you see that M camera view I zoomed in really close so you guys can see this okay so take a minute to pause this and zoom in and get those colors and we will get started on the strawberry bookmark so I kind of was fiddling with this upper one and I took my 927 um got to move you out of angle here and I just really lightly put a little bit of that 927 around some of the area where I think the light's going to hit it I didn't apply any pressure at all just a quick little shade of it it just gives me a reference to think about when I'm actually laying down my Reds so that you know I see this strawberry as the sun's hitting headon so that's what I'm going for it's going to be a head-on light that's my that's my goal here so now what I'm going to do is take my one3 and I'm going to fill in my little seeds what I'm doing by doing that is putting a like a base coat there and it makes me pay attention when I'm going around them with red red that way I don't overfill them in you'll probably get some red on them and that's okay as you're going along but this helps to kind of Define them so you don't lose where they are so don't worry too much if you accidentally get some red on them that's why the gel pen or the PCA um comes in handy at the end because even if you filled them in with a little bit of the red color you'll be able to cover that right up with your acrylic paint pen or your good gel pen there okay so you can see that's all I did is just put a couple little orange dots there now I'm going to start really lightly with my 923 and I know this is my little shorty it's really short so I'm trying to kind of use up the tip here to be done with it now all I'm going to do is I'm going to start at the bottom and really light light l so because I'm doing so many layers and um so many different tones here I don't want to do heavy layers I want to be able to blend my color and make it kind of look seamless and I want the strawberry to pop off the page in the end because the berry I want it to be my my main point I don't want the leaves to be my focal point I want the berry to be my focal point the bright red berries and now I'm paying attention to where I put that peach and you'll be able to see here as I go along where it is and I know I'm sorry I cheated a little bit by adding that but we'll add it in the next one so you'll be able to see and the reason I did that is again it's a light reflection so that leaf there is blocking where light would hit so I'm just going to go around that a little bit and then just right up here a little bit just a hair just around it anyway and then maybe a little in here just going to go around some of these seeds just a little bit of red around the seeds so I've got kind of an idea where I want my Reds and my peaches to go somewhat so I'm going to bump it up here and I'm going to take my 924 and because my 924 is a Deeper Shade of red I'm going to start at the bottom where there's less light so it's going to be a little bit darker because this is going to be a ripe Berry and I'm just again applying a light coat of that 924 going around my seeds now you'll notice I'm not really going to fill in every single area with this 924 I'm just going to do the areas where I want it just a little bit darker and I know it's hard to tell right now because I'm using such a light touch but that's part of building up your layers as you start really building those layers your colors really start to come out and you can see where you've laid your darker colors in the beginning so it's important that you know exactly where you want to put those darker colors because it's really going to show up in the end because that area where the darker color is is going to show up darker when you blend out and add more color again as you see I'm just kind of go around the bottom of the seeds here just a little bit it's hard to get around them but you could do this little part in the end as well and of course we will go back over that in the end put some final details doing this just kind of gives that little bit of a a shadow to your your strawberry seeds and it will kind of make them stand off the page a little bit so again I'm just going around this doing light layers and I'm focusing on the darker spots because this is still 924 now for all intents and purposes I'm grabbing my 923 again and I'm going to come up here just going apply a little more that 923 over the 924 just to see where my color is and this is a slow tedious process I mean for all intents and purposes you can just apply one coat of red fill in your berries and be done but if you really want to go all in and get a little technical you really can you can get all crazy you can do different colors of berries I mean there's no rules that say the berries have to be red I mean you can make it Whimsical you can really do whatever you want okay now I'm going to grab 118 which is orange I know crazy right now up here at the top I'm just going to use a really light touch of this 118 just around certain points and don't worry it's really going to blend out so that orange kind of gives it that Sunkissed look with all that red and the peach and the white getting that little bit of orange in here and really lightly don't press hard with your orange or you'll make it look orange orange you're just want that little subtle bit of color cuz you're going to blend a lot of that brightness away but it's still going to be there okay and you'll see I'm kind of bringing it down just a little bit into some of the red area but again I'm using a really light touch okay now going going to grab my 924 again and I'm going to come down here and I'm just going to add another layer of my 924 where I want the darker red to show and I know it's hard to get around some of these seeds but you can do it just do your best I say and now you see why we put that little bit of orange in there cuz it really helps to point out where those seeds are when you get coloring cuz you kind of forget especially when they're super tiny so as you see the color is starting to build up now because you're just putting layers down and that's what so great about prismacolors you just build your layers the lighter the pressure the more I guess you could say the more layers you're going to have to do with really light pressure but your blending will be smoother and you just keep going over it and I know it seems like oh my gosh this takes so long it does but your end results are always so beautiful when you take your time to work the pencil so down at the bottom here I know I have my TV in the background sorry it's noise so anyways you got the darker at the base and around the edge I don't even know what movie this is I think it's something with Sally Field in it something that just came up it was on because I have streaming I don't have cable I just stream everything I cut the cord years ago I got so tired of the ridiculous cable bills always going up and up and up and up and up up for no reason just got out of hand I was like okay we're done with this plus I like the streaming service a lot better sometimes it gets frustrating when I can't find my local news then I have to watch it like a day late unless I subscribe to a a premium service and it's like GH pain in my biscuits okay I'm going to go around some of these seeds again just a little bit here going around them with that darker 924 around this one up top here hopefully my hand's not in your way going turn this down they're singing church songs okay now I'm going to grab my 922 which is your poppy red and up here where I put that 118 earlier I'm going to apply a little coat of the poppy red and I'm just kind of blending all these colors up top where the sun's kind of hitting that Berry and reflec off and I'm going to bring it down into my darker area just a little bit yeah it was with Sally Field in that movie sorry I just looked at the credits were coming up that was one of her older movies she was a cotton farmer or something I don't know I wasn't paying attention too much places in the heart that's what it was called that's what was playing it's decent movie Sally Field's a good actress okay now I'm taking my white and I'm just kind of really lightly working that around that where I put some of that orange and reds kind of smoothing it out a little bit not burnishing not really doing too much I'm just giving a little I don't even know what the word is for it I'm just kind of blending a little bit giving it more of a Milky effect a natural look to it so that it doesn't look so color separated and the reason I do this in layers instead of just really quickly applying heavy heavy coats of color is because when you're still doing your layers you can adjust you can adjust your colors you can darken it you can lighten it cuz once you start getting your heavy colors in that's it it's almost game over at that point okay so now I'm going to take my 925 which is my darker of the Reds and I'm going to go around here at the bottom now this is really going to start to make the red red it's going to really start darkening up that Berry but again I'm not using a lot of pressure I'm still using light touch and I'm just putting that darker red where I really want it that's all I'm doing cuz you kind of want to save your really dark colors for the very end so I'm just giv just a little bit so you can really kind of see now what pattern I'm taking here so I'm going to go up around the side a little bit come up around this Leaf just a little bit here just a smidy it's starting to take shape now with my colors they're showing advertisements now for other movies suppose I should probably pick one in a minute okay now take your 923 and let's get a good layer of 923 you're going to blend and blend and blend with 923 you're going to get a good nice layer going with that bright red and again don't worry if you're seeds get covered up again your gel pen or your PCA is going to uncover those seeds you see I'm going around I'm going right over those previous Reds I laid even that darkest red I put in and I'm just mixing those colors really good you can really kind of see it coming around now and again if you're not getting as many layers as I am don't stress because I'm using a really toothy paper I think I mentioned that in the first video the grain of this paper is just ridiculous but I wanted to use it up so I think I did that with printing a bunch of pages from Etsy and these bookmarks were some of them so again I'm coming up around the top a little bit on the side I'm getting a nice good coat and on the inside of that leaf there all right okay now I'm going to jump to my peach my 927 and I'm going to work around those edges where that red is touching I'm just going to kind of pull those edges in to blend that red and smooth it out in a way kind of give it that milky soft appearance without burnishing so be a light light touch but move that color around so that you don't have a really sharp line there if you do and you're still getting a sharp line go back with your red a little bit and just add a little bit more of a really light hand try not to be heavy-handed cuz that can really kill your blending and I do it my Blends aren't always perfect it happens and going around strawberry seeds can be tricky but this is time consuming so tuck in your patience when you're doing Berry if you're if you're doing multiple blends with a strawberry tuck your patience meter in cuz it will push it especially if you're doing an obscene amount of colors this isn't even extreme this is kind of intermediate I guess I know some of you are probably going what really it is oh hey Foot Loose I haven't seen that since I was a kid my age is really starting to show okay now that I've done that I'm going to take my one3 and I'm going to go right up here at the top of that Berry I'm going over the red just a little bit up here at the very top and I'm going to bring it down just a little bit I'm smoothing out some of that red and mixing it with the one3 kind of that Sunkissed look we just want to put a little bit in there ridiculous is there's an issue playing the video what that issue is but okay Netflix giving me an error code always something right okay so you can see I got just a smidy in there now I'm going to grab my 922 again I know it's like playing musical pencils and I'm using that 922 at the top and around this side and I'm going to bring that darker in with that 922 now I'm not going over all the orange up there just a little bit but I am going over some of the darker red with my 922 and as you see how it's brightening up I know it's a lot of layers getting around some of these seeds is tricky and again I'm just building layers I'm really not doing anything fancy other than just constantly working the color and working the paper and the pencil it's really all it's a you know the method is just to blend and mix your colors and get those Fades good I guess that's kind of more the word I'm looking for is as you transition your colors you want to transition so it looks seamless just going to go around the bottom here a little bit and now you can kind of see the difference in contrast of these colors see you can really see the the orange up top and the darker red down below so now I'm going to take my 924 okay why is this giving me an issue let's try this again why is Netflix just being complicated okay let's just watch this huh The Walking Dead since it's already in my queue okay back to what I was doing since Netflix wants to be evil know what's wrong with foot loose okay so 924 I'm starting to get a heavier buildup a color now and just following my lines now you can really start to see the color coming out oops trying to get around that edge here we go it's kind of interesting when you watch the colors really come out especially when you're doing fruits and berries and you just never know what your blend's going to bring around it's like every time I do a strawberry it's different even if I use the same colors it's always different it's just how I pattern the berry I think and how much of this color I use and how much of that color I use it always comes out different still within reason but it always something different about it every time never fails oops got a little too little too much red there that's okay but you can really kind of see now where I'm going and as I work over that little bit of peach bringing some of that red up into the orange I just think it's really neat how it all when it all comes together how it looks okay pretty nifty so I'm going to take my peach and I'm going to work that Center and up towards the top a little bit here where I had some difficulty with the the red getting too far into my light zone I call it okay Light peach is a great color to work with when you're using orange and reds okay yay that's a little better okay where is it where is it where is it 922 here we go you're really going to see the colors come out now 922 is like that super bright orangey red of over top your dark Reds and at this point you should start feeling the heaviness of the color meaning when you put your pencil over the color that's already there you're going to feel it you're going to feel that color moving under your pencil as you do your blending and it's going to start to get that shiny effect and that's good that means you're you're hitting your gal on the paper so to say and pay no mind to the white specks in my paper because again this is really toothy paper okay go up and around here around this leafy area okay and you can still see where I've got my darker red but I'm my light my lighter colors have you know worked to blend it so you should still see the light and you got your dark Reds your light Reds your pinks your orange and now you don't have to put your highlighting spots on your berries if you don't want to you can just use the simple white gel pen or just don't do them at all it's up kind of up to you whatever you want to do I sometimes do them on my berries sometimes I don't sometimes I leave them out it just I guess depends on my mood cuz there's really no thought process when I decide to Omit them it's like I just do it sometimes I actually just forget cuz I get coloring I get focused on what I'm doing and I don't think about it so I'm like oh yeah I guess I could have put a highlight in there to make it look more natural but I just forget and I'm like oh well it's done now right it's not like I can go back and add it in so now you can really see that I've worked these colors pretty good here and I can come back and add some more layers in cuz my paper is far from burnished to say the least far from it you I don't know what grains you're using but you should be really close so you should be able to apply some some Finishing Touches for shading and I'll show you that and some more white and we're going to do that right now I'm going to take my white one over that light area and you can see what I'm doing here is I'm BL those oranges that peach that little bit of red because I've used multiple layers of Light peach here and some orange and some um lighter red it's coming together really really nicely but I'm keeping that center part white okay we take my little bit of orange here I'm just brightening up that upper red it really brings out that red just blending around moving that color a little bit now if you want your berries darker just use more dark red use less of the the lighter Reds and just keep building your Blends until you get what you're after cuz see I can even go back in with my 924 and do a little bit more of my dark red down here where I want it cuz I still have room to build these colors and this paper will take it it'll take it beautifully because there's so much grain to work with that's what's nice about tongue tight Strathmore pap paper depending on which type of Strathmore you get it's such a great paper cuz even without burnishing it you can get a nice finished look okay even though I'm far from having a nice polished look yet I want to um take this 989 and up here where that orange is go over that 989 just a little bit the reason for that is when you do your green leaves that little bit of 989 right around your Edge it's going to kind of pull it together a little bit and it just looks really cool okay now I'm going to use my 1099 which is espresso and I'm going to go around these seeds I'm going to give a little bit of shade really lightly just small subtle Shades around some of these seeds okay and you can use dark red to do this too you can use black this is kind of in between a black and a gray and it really kind of makes those stand out and it gives just a little bit of shading where those seeds are kind of tucked into the fruit gives it just enough it's kind of cool when you see the finished look it's kind of a violent show I'm watching okay let's go around this one just a little bit get a little more around here on that side let's do these guys on the side here a little bit down below some of these little tiny ones are going to be really hard to but now I'm going to take my 1099 and around the base I'm just lightly going to give a little bit of shading over the red it's a great color to work over red can you see that where it just darkened up that dark red just enough could come up here a little bit so dragging it up see how it just changed that dark red to really dark red almost like a velvet red it's amazing what colors you think you shouldn't use together work together especially when you want to apply some some shut subtle shading it gives it just enough of that dark deep red kind of pretty huh okay now again I can do more layers on my line I really can especially up top here I can work that red a little more in this Peach I have lots of room to to get in there and blend some more of this color because my paper is just overwhelmingly thick I don't know why I punish myself sometimes I use these heavy papers I think cuz I think I get over excited okay I'm going to take my yellow and I'm just going to put in those little seeds here very carefully don't do what I did once and push down too much on your paint pen and just make it a paint puddle so I'm just kind of kind of following the outline of the seed and I'm just putting that little bit of yellow in there cuz see it covers up what was there that orange pencil we used just to make them stand out a little bit it's all I'm doing just kind of adding these little seeds in there so you can see them oops some of the outside ones are a little tricky okay there's another one right here think I got them all sometimes I like to add like a few more and you could do that you could add a few more kind of think of what a real strawberry would look like okay I have so much room in here to work with this is my 122 I can come in here and put some of that in here that 122 even right over that gray it just keeps that dark detail there but again I have really grainy paper so if you make a mess with your PCA let it dry don't immediately wipe it up just let it dry and then use a sharp edge of something or your pencil to pick it off it'll come right off don't try to do it when it's wet you'll just smear it and then it's really hard to get off because the thicker it is the easier it is is to just peel off the paper I've done it a million times I've like oh gosh got a Gob of paint cuz my paint pen explodes on me drives me bad okay so you can see I'm just working the colors if if I think it's too white or too orange I can just go and add some more Red where I want it and that PO even though I laid that PCA down it will pop right off and I can always come back and redo it cuz I added those extra little seeds over my red so again it just comes right off but you can see where I put that dark espresso color it just Blends in and makes that dark red really dark and that's what you want you want to see that dark red versus your light red and I'm just following around my seeds here see and you start to get your your Blends will start to really come together and you can feel it in your paper it it changes the texture of your paper really changes when you start noticing you're burnishing your paper you'll get a start getting a heavier um dust from your pencils cuz your paper's no longer taking color so it's just pushing color and it just creates a dust so at that point you know you've pretty much worked your paper to where it's not going to really hold too much more color if you're lucky you'll get a little tiny bit in there in the little tiny grains that you have left to work with but for the most part your Berry should have a nice seamless blend from dark to light if that's what you're going for and maybe some areas where the sun has either hit it or not quite hit it at all like it's not 100% ripe okay and again I left the center on this one so I'm just going to add a little more of that color in here to some of these seeds just around this is that espresso color again and this ain't one of my more perfect strawberries but I like it it's a good one again you can see I'm just going over some of that red with this gray and where I want a more shade I can put more shade where I want the red darker I could put more red it darkens up that red so nice you think like that one I think I could have went darker maybe move that light off to the left maybe would have been better n whatever it works it's a berry to say the least this is my 923 by the way see I was working with that short one but I have a long one cuz you got to use up what you have I use my pencils until they're almost nothing left and then I have this a couple of these really cute little bins upstairs I just throw my little bits in there my bit bins one of these days I'll do something with them haven't quite decided yet but I will I know that if you take them some people you might have one I don't know a nut cracker a pair of pliers and you just squeeze them firmly you should be able to break open the casings on the pencils and Pop That core right out and you can use it as background color so You' be getting every bit of color out of that pencil by using it as background just taking it out of the casing cuz the you remember prismacolors are a split Barrel so if you squeeze it and crack the paint on the outer Barrel you don't really care about what's inside the core because you're going to Mush it around anyway right so you crack that Barrel open you can get to the the guts of the pencil and you can use those little bits okay what do you think think it's a good one I think it's doable I do I think it's a little doable I think we'll do this one quite a bit darker because it's under some leaves can you still see did I get out of your view the whole time but we'll do these down here a little bit darker and then maybe work this one either this one or this one we'll do as an unripened Berry I haven't decided yet but we'll do one of them as a a green Berry with some touches of Pinks and reds
