EXPECTED TO RECOVER MEANWHILE MORE THAN 25 YEARS AFTER THE TRAGIC COLUMBINE SHOOTING IN COLORADO THE MESSAGE FROM ONE OF THE VICTIMS LIVES ON THAT MESSAGE BE KIND AND COMPASSION HARD TO BELIEVE IT'S BEEN ALMOST 25 YEARS THAT MESSAGE HAS BEEN SPREAD THROUGH SCHOOLS ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY TONIGHT AS FOX FIFTY-NINE'S ERIC GRAVES REPORTS THOSE IDEAS HAVE NOW MADE IT HERE TO INDIANAPOLIS AREA HIGH SCHOOL >> A WORLD WHERE ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILLS INCREASE SCHOOL SAFETY ARE FIRST AND FOREMOST IN THE MINDS OF TEACHERS IN STUDENTS NORTH-CENTRAL IS TAKING A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO TRY AND GET TO THOSE ISSUES AT THE ROOTS IN A ROOM FILLED WITH HUNDREDS OF NORTH CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS EVERY I WAS TURNED TOWARD THE STATE PRESENTATION STARTED WITH ONE OF THE MOST SHOCKING DAYS IN RECENT AMERICAN HISTORY >> APRIL 20TH 1999 COLUMBINE HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTING ESPECIALLY WITH THE RECENT GEORGIA SHOOTING IT ALL KIND OF STARTED COMING BACK SO IT DEFINITELY MADE ME TEAR UP INDEFINITELY SOMBER PAGE FLEMING AND HER FELLOW NORTH-CENTRAL SENIORS WE'RE STILL YEARS FROM BEING BORN IN 1999 TODAY THE THREAT OF SCHOOL SHOOTINGS HAS BECOME ALL TOO COMMON THOUGH I DO FEEL A LITTLE BIT UNSAFE SOMETIMES YOU KNOW I NEVER KNOW WHAT SOMEONE HAS SOMETHING GOING ON AT HOME HERE IN NORTH CENTRAL SCHOOL STAFF AND A STUDENT WITH A GUN AT THE BEGINNING OF LAST SCHOOL YEAR THEY'VE BEFORE CLASSES EVEN BEGAN AND NO ONE WAS HURT AN EXAMPLE OF THE SAFETY PROTOCOLS THAT WORK SAFETY IS ALWAYS TOP OF MIND THAT'S THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY THE SCHOOLWIDE PRESENTATION TUESDAY WAS A DIFFERENT WAY OF TRYING TO KEEP THE SCHOOL SAFE RACHEL'S CHALLENGES INSPIRED BY RACHEL SCOTT THE FIRST VICTIM OF THE COLUMBINE SCHOOL SHOOTING AND HOW SHE LIVED HER LIFE EVERY DAY START A CHAIN REACTION OF KINDNESS AND COMPASSION THROUGHOUT >> THE WORLD >> AND SHE STARTED BY GOING TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY RACHEL'S CHALLENGE PRESENTER JB BRINGS TALK TO STUDENTS AT HUNDREDS OF SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY THE HOPE IS THE LESSONS LEARNED CAN HELP FIGHT THE ROOT CAUSES THAT CAN LEAD TO VIOLENCE WHEN YOU DO THAT THOSE LITTLE THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE REALLY GOING THROUGH A DIFFERENT TIME WHERE THEY THEY ALMOST AT THE MANSION GET PUSHED JUST MAYBE JUST MAYBE THOSE WORDS CAN BRING THEM BACK PAGES TAKING RACHEL'S CHALLENGE TO HEART HOPES HER FELLOW STUDENTS ARE ANY TIME THAT YOU CAN DO SOMETHING TO BE BETTER DO IT AND THAT'S A CHALLENGE TO ACCEPTING TODAY RACHEL'S CHALLENGE A PROGRAM WILL BE COMING TO THE 3 MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN THE WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP SYSTEM AS WELL
