hello my name is Michael Palfrey and I am principal osteopath field well-being Center near reading I'd like to talk to you about a condition called golfer's elbow which is technically known as medial epicondylitis this is a condition we see reasonably frequently in the clinic it's characterized by pain on the inside of the elbow and sometimes associated with weakness and stiffness in the forearm it's commonly caused by repetitive actions such as gripping something too tightly heavy lifting using a screwdriver using a heavy object above your head and it can be quite a debilitating condition and often people find that it does prevent them from doing the things that they would like to be able to do we have a number of treatment options for golfers elbow at field well-being Center things range from advice on exercises and applying heat and ice maybe using some anti-inflammatories - through to having some Osteopathy or physiotherapy maybe including some ultrasound some massage manipulation but one of the treatment options that's available for persistent pain in the elbow be that golfers over or tennis elbow is something called shockwave therapy shockwave therapy has been around for quite a while now and has been proven to be very effective in treating problems with tendons of which golfers and tennis elbow are both examples we use a course of three treatments usually and often this produces a significant improvement in the pain and stiffness associated with golfer's elbow so if you're suffering from golfer's elbow please consider using field well-being Center and please consider shockwave therapy [Music]
