Dodgers postgame: Dave Roberts explains Bobby Miller likely to remain in rotation

[Music] Dave when you look at Bobby's outing what were you seeing from him and what did you see just to be the difference after that those first two innings that he seemed like he got a little bit more on track um third fourth and really see start the fifth um I think uh you know to start the game he was I thought he got behind I don't think that uh you know they sequence well tonight I don't think that you know they used uh you know his secondary pitches the slider the curveball to change up the right way um to protect the fastball um very predictable to uh you know aggressive fastball hating team and um you know as he got into the game he started sequencing better uh which led to more efficient outs and so you know tonight we got put in a tough spot and uh fortunately he got through five innings but obviously uh you know the damage was done how do you evaluate that just looking ahead just knowing you he might be an all might need come October but you can like kind of see moments where the stuff is there and it's big but also just seeing how navigating through lineups is the other part that needs to be the focus um yeah you know I I I think where we're at right now um with certain players um that you know Bobby in this particular case performance matters and um you know it's just got to be better um there's just no and he knows that and so you just can't come out there and give up five runs and put us bu the eight ball and um you know so it's not about the stuff because as we've seen uh the stuff is there and then it's just and I've you know say time and time again it's about performance and so you know you got to perform and give us a chance the first time you give the beginning what do you um you know I I don't know the answer um I know last year you know which you know seems like a long time ago he was very good at minimizing damage uh getting the first hitter of an inning where this year he's just hasn't been good at that just falling behind in counts and having to go in the zone with the fast ball especially in like that sequence tonight this has kind of been like a recurring thing for him it feels like it's somebody starts yeah I I think so um you have to as a starting pitcher be able to get ahead with different secondary pitch you have to um unless you have 80 command um and right now he doesn't and so um it's a fast ball that hitters see and so it's either they got to be commanded really well and moved into different locations or you have to be able to get ahead with different breaking bols and that's just the way it goes and if you can't do that then you know the catcher is in a tough spot but um we got to get better with na coming and Yamamoto coming back like do you expect to make his next turn do you guys still want to kind of see you know how things progress over the next couple weeks with him um well I don't think that right now we have another alternative I think he's going to start the last day against the Cubs uh so we get a couple days extra um but yeah so he's going to make his next start I guess on the offensive side what were you seeing that just limited your guys today I I just think that we got so far behind that guys just didn't um you know put the at bats that I think that we could have and no excuse with that um but I think at that point in time you know Canon got into a rhythm and you know we just didn't take the advs that you know we could have thank you
