When I got injured, I was
a little bit lost, sort of lost a bit of my identity about
who I was and where I was going. And I found sport and paddling specifically
gave me purpose, gave me a goal,
gave me a dream. I remember being on
the stretcher and saying, “One day you'll see me
at the Paralympics.” When I crossed the line in Rio, the reality was actually
this huge wave of relief. Everyone behind me really made
the win very, very special. Being flag bearer in the closing
ceremony was a magical moment. It's not something that a
debut athlete would expect. To be singled out, and given that honour is definitely one
of my proudest moments as well. Being seen as a leader, a senior
athlete within the squad, and have become a Co-Captain
of the 2024 Paralympic Team heading to Paris. Para-sport has definitely
given a lot to me and I'm incredibly grateful.
