Ron Coote Becomes The 14th Immortal | NRL

well it gives me enormous pleasure to announce the 14th Immortal to join rugby league's Elite ladies and gentlemen the 14th Immortal is Ron C [Music] great H for me get that one got a new one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so good oh Ron thanks one a standing ovation and and deservedly so such an astonishing and richly deserved acknowledgement uh amazing for a young man who grew up just down the road from here proudly cheering for his father who played for the roosters yep is this what this moment is this the moment you dreamed of oh it's I'm I'm a bit taken for words at the moment Jesus I never thought I'd be crying when I was 80 but I am but uh yeah it's to me it's just Sensational I never thought it happened I've been I've I've been at this function a few times and uh and this time I've sort of I've got the gong so that's that's really good to me and I really appreciate it thank you it's just such an amazing career uh nine grand finals six premierships four with souths two with the roosters Australian captain and also a legacy that you've left that will linger much longer after we've sadly lost you because you've made our great game that much better with the family of League um helping people most in need who love the great game of rugby league when you look back at this incredible life you've had in the game what are you most proud of well I I suppose I'd have to say my family I've got a wonderful family and and uh I've always um I've always put them first and uh and uh and then I've uh I've been lucky that in business and stuff like that I've done I've always had I've always worked hard but I've always had uh work had a lot of luck with it so that's been good too and uh and uh you know like I said I really appreciate everything what rugby league has done for me um I you know I can go back to the days when when you know I used to play play Junior League and sou Juniors and they were always supportive to us you know when I was a kid uh I I remember they took me to New Zealand we had a a a a tour to New Zealand as a as a 12y old I was and uh they took us over there and we played uh two or three games over there and it was it was I thought this is games for me this rugby leagues for me and and and uh and it has been I've had a great life uh and and I put that down to the opportunity I I've been given through the through the playing the game of rugby league which I certainly admire today and see the great game it is and how it's improved and I think it's the greatest game in the world and uh I can't I I watch the TV all hours now because I I can't not watch it because it's it's it's so good and uh so that's about that's my story and uh I just like to say thank you to everyone here tonight for the for the Applause and all that sort of stuff and uh and say that keep keep following rugby league because so I'm sure that you'll get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction uh from a great game thank you
