Hello, Beck Taylor here, President—Samford University, and welcome to the April edition of Beck's Bench. As you may know, Samford is 183 years old dating back to 1841. And that makes Samford the 87th oldest university in the United States. We're known for our Christ-centered educational mission, but also for academic quality, a commitment to excellence, our competitive athletic program, Georgian Colonial Revival architecture and having fun. But in 2024, I want to take our fun to the next level, and I have some ideas. First, I think I should trade in the boring Volvo SUV for a Samford Spirit vehicle. How about a Bulldog Blue Corvette? We'll call it the Beck A. Taylor mobile. You know, the B.A.T.-mobile. I'm also thinking, why do we put the greenest grass at the front of campus during the winter months? I say green grass for all, everywhere. Also, don't you think crowning a Sweepstakes winner once a year just isn't enough? I'm thinking January, February, March, April and May for you May-termers out there. And one more thing, with temperatures rising in April, May and throughout the summer, hear this: if the outside temperature exceeds 99 degrees—our fountains will be open for dipping. We need to have more fun and things are going to be a little different around here. We're going to let our hair down a bit. Everything is open for change, and I mean everything! But in all seriousness, students, faculty and staff, we're approaching perhaps the most stressful time of the spring semester. We're just 21 days away from final exams, and class of 2024, we're just 25 days away from your commencement ceremonies. I hope this video and this hairpiece bring a smile to your face. Remember, college is fun, and no matter the stress of finals or graduation, don't let it get to you. Relax, put your trust in the Lord and know that your Samford family is rooting for you. Thanks for watching the April Fools edition of Beck's Bench, and as always, go Bulldogs.
