Cooler weather on the way and another shot of storms Thursday

well we recap the multiple rounds of storms that we had last night the Heat and now we're in for some cooler weather eventually after three cool [Music] fronts so after our hottest day of the summer highest due points highest heat IND disease uh we had our most active day of severe weather in the Twin Cities too two rounds of storms two boow Echoes the first first one yesterday evening Monday evening uh ending the Heat and then the second one coming through early this morning so this is a snapshot from just after 7 p.m. Monday evening and then also about 5:30 a.m. early Tuesday two rounds of uh significant weather lot of wind damage reports more so than large hail which was a concern but we didn't see as much of that but all the blue are wind damage reports and high wind gusts and two funnel clouds uh one near Kirk Hoven in candy ohigh County and one in Nicolet County near essc and you can see this here on the radar a brief couplet that's where the red and green comes together that means winds moving in two different directions uh what we call a gust NATO when we have these straight line winds events on the edges of the wind we can get these brief spin-ups just like when you push a paddle through the water and you get a little spin up then the early morning storm 64 mph wind gust in St Paul 61 mph at MSP uh 62 mph in Eden Prairie this is a view from Downtown Minneapolis early this morning many people seen the same thing so both these storms happen to cut a path right through the heart of the Metro within an 11-hour period doesn't happen very often here and to be picked up by all of our airports so this is a radar estimate at 5:30 a.m. I grabbed a snapshot of 66 m per hour winds estimated by radar all these bright areas were some of the highest wind gusts and I snapped this picture too just missing a car here this big tree branch and there were several of course numerous reports of tree branches down trees down the state fair opened late because of assessing damage there pretty incredible storm and a lot of rainfall 1 to 3 Ines of rain in this circled area across central Minnesota now we knew we'd get an inch or two of rain but still to see it all pan out from those two storms and right in the heart again in the Twin Cities we had the highest rainfall amounts these are 2 to three in in South Minneapolis into portions of St Paul in just a 24-hour period so we will see some lingering instability today most showers will be to the north but with some of the peaks of sun today we could see a couple of pop-up showers or a thunderstorm no more severe weather expected uh and for the most part overall dry but then as we head into Thursday the second Cool Front comes through that's going to touch off more showers and thunderstorms this is 8:00 Thursday morning scattered on and off showers and thunderstorms through the day Thursday here's the afternoon and then in the evening hours should move out of here Thursday night that front will finally drop the temperatures and due points a little bit more it's still muggy today and tomorrow not as humid of course as Monday uh but still a little bit on the muggy side and there is a marginal risk level one out of five that we could see some stronger severe storms Thursday it doesn't look like a real great risk but uh something we'll keep our eye on so the first Cool Front came through last night dropping the extreme heat in humidity but we still got plenty of warm muggy Air Above normal temperatures but that second front will really cool things off more comfortably for Friday Saturday upper 70s low 80s lower humidity but then a third front comes through later in the weekend Sunday Monday the second half of Labor Day weekend will be rather cool uh much more like mid to late September but that will all finally get rid of these muggier due points by Friday we're looking at due points that'll finally be in the 50s but today tomorrow Thursday still occasionally muggy 60s even near 70 degree dup points uh so if you're really looking for the relief that's the coming for the weekend and by Labor Day morning look at these lows 30s to around 40 in northern Minnesota even in the Twin Cities low 50s could be our coolest morning we've seen since early June is is the season uh upper 70s though these next few days but again still a little muggy today tomorrow Thursday tomorrow looks dry it should be a pleasant day uh Thursday we will have the on andof showers and thunderstorms but that's going to be it for rain for a while Friday Saturday Sunday Monday lots of sun very comfortable especially Sunday Monday if you're looking for even cooler weather uh we've got that coming but uh comfortable overnights you can get give the AC a break this weekend and great timing for the holiday weekend all that sunshine [Music] [Music]
