get a Roundup of the scores that we have thus far uh we have 8man and Class A who are opening up District play tonight and uh we we have one eight player score from the area and that game was played last night Clarksville defeated Dunkerton at home 58- six in a game you heard on 99 the wave uh don't have any Class A scores in from the area in just yet but over on 99 the wave tonight John mowinkle and Carter Hoff had the call as the number two ranked team in class 1a the defending state champions in that class Grundy Center we're all over the applington park rburg Falcons at Ed Thomas Field tonight 43-7 the final score there we'll hear from John coming up here in just a little bit with a recap of that one also in uh area action tonight this one is class 3A non District Hampton deont Cal hosting two a claring Goldfield Dows the Bulldogs with a 35-7 win over the Cowboys and we'll hear from Dave Stein coming up here in just a little bit on that one the Bulldogs I understand scoring in multiple ways in that one tonight sounded like offense defense maybe even special teams getting involved in that one uh elsewhere around the broadcast Area North Butler defeating South winik tonight uh 35-4 uh that is a class A District score Class A District three there 35 to 14 the Bearcats over South winic also in District play on 104.9 km Jen tonight the West Fork warhawks uh went up to Mason City Newman and the Knights defeated the warhawks there 20 to 15 Josh H and Mitch Williams had the call there on 104.9 klmj we'll hear from Joshua Hamlin on that one coming up here in just a moment also going on tonight we've got NFL football on a Friday night I don't think I've ever said those words before NFL football on a Friday night the Philadelphia Eagles are leading the Green Bay Packers right now uh just starting the fourth quarter uh 31-26 is the score there currently uh that game being played in Sal Pao Brazil let's get off to our first uh report of the night shall we and that is John mole he's got a recap of the applington Parkersburg Falcons and class 1a's defending state champion Grundy Center Spartans the number two in onea Grundy Center football team came on the road to Ed Thomas field on Friday night and defeated applington parkerburg 43 to7 as aired on 99 the wave and it was all Spartans in this one uh they got started on the first possession of the game just a couple plays into the game Jud gerovski finds Braden DAV for a 62 yd touchdown where Davey caught a swing pass and scampered down the sideline for a huge gain and it ended up being eight nothing after a mishandled Pat snap resulted in a two-point conversion on a Jud Jovi roll out and a toss to Deon henders In The End Zone later in the first quarter bro Zula plunged in from a yard out to extend the lead to 15 to nothing for gry Center and then Devon hinders caught two touchdown passes early in the second quarter from 20 and 22 yards out the first one he was wide open in The End Zone it was an easy throw from Judge Jovi to make the second one he uh caught it on a flat route and ended up having to make some guys miss and uh got into some space and found his way into the end zone for the touchdown from 22 yards out some sloppiness ensued down the stretch of the first half as each team fumbled twice there were four combined turnovers in backto back to backto back drives and then late in the first half judge rovski scrambled from nine yards out to give gr Center a 36 to nothing halftime lead and put the runand clock rule in effect for the rest of the way dry again scored from nine yards out early in the second half and AP was able to get on the board with some reserves in the game crate neart plunged in from four yards out to make the final score 43 to7 AP was forced to punt on nearly all of its drives uh in this one up until that last touchdown run by Eber har and also aside from that series of fumbles late in the first half but other than that AP did not pick up a single first down until about the 10 minute Mark of the fourth quarter here's AP coach Aaron Thomas on how his team was not able to overcome the athleticism of gry Center they made plays I thought we were in pretty good position a couple times we had him and made the initial contact but either didn't get him tackled or you know our coverage you know credit to Jud jaski he's a heck of a quarterback and he threw it right on the money you know we might have been one step behind behind on a couple of those first touchdowns we were close but you got to be able to cover them and and they got good speed and they got good skill kids and um you know I was proud of our kids they you know second half I think most of them came out and they kept battling gry Center had several big yardage gainers including Brody Zula on the ground picking up just shy of a 100 yards Devin henders through the air had just over 50 yards receiving Jacob Hoy and Tian VES also had quite a few receptions in this one as well as gry Center cruises to 2-0 on the season ahead of a matchup at pel Christian next week and what'll be a playoff rematch AP is now 0 and2 and we'll wrap up non District play next week at South Harden on 99 the wave again the final score for Med Thomas field number two one at Grande Center 43 applington Parkersburg 7 I'm John mole reporting for radio on the go sports all right thank you very much John appreciate that and one correction I said earlier that North Butler won 35 to 14 had the score right but had my numbers switched there South winik comes away with the win there at North Butler 35 to4 over the Bearcats uh moving on uh we'll go up the road to Mason City and that is where the Newman Knights hosted West Fork tonight in District action Class A District 2 and it was the knights with a 20-5 win over the warhawks Joshua Hamlin had the call alongside Mitch Williams on 104.9 KMJ here's Josh with a report I'm Joshua Hamlin reporting for radio on the go from Newman Catholic High School in Mason City where on Friday night westfork met Newman Catholic in a class A District opener as the warhawks fell to Newman Catholic on Friday night 2215 in a game where the offens has ruled the first quarter and early second quarter and defenses really locked things down in the second half let's get to the action following a warhawks punt on their opening Drive Newman Catholic would go six plays and a cash in with 734 to go in the first quarter on a 133 yard touchdown run by Cole weiner it was 8 nothing nights the War Hawks took a deep breath and responded on the following drive as it started with 726 to go in the first quarter they would go 12 plays and uh cash in on a 12 yard touchdown carry by Dax sunken he also completed the two-point conversion attempt with a minute 37 to go in the first quarter we were tied at eight but Newman would strike quickly on the kickoff as uh open field for Isaiah Kon as he took it to the house a 75 yd kickoff return the two-point conversion was no good with a minute 23 to go in that first quarter 14 to8 nights the warhawks though would respond with another long drive and a timec consuming drive at that as uh it ended up taking five minutes the end of the first quarter which there was still a minute 23 left and then leaked into the second quarter a nine playay drive as Dax sunen scored his second touchdown of the night from one yard out and and uh the point after attempt was good by Xander Hansen it was 154 with 915 to go in the second quarter the knights on the following drive would fumble the ball warhawks were unable to cash in on that drive though uh they would uh get up field but after a bad snap had to punt the ball and on that following Drive Newman would score uh their go-ahead touchdown on a three-play drive as uh with a minute 54 is where they started the drive they would score with 35 seconds left in the first half a 35 yd touchdown run by Cole Wier his second of the game and it was 20- 15 Newman after the two-point conversion was no good and that was your score after at the half as the warhawks ended up throwing an interception on the final play of the first half into the second half Newman started with the ball and got deep into warhawks territory but it was that warhawks defense stepping up once again with a turnover defending inside their own 30 yard line they Force an interception warhawks unable to do anything with the ball though as they would end up punting it and then Newman had the ball back once again and had a really timec consuming drive as uh it started with 435 to go in the third and didn't end Till There Was 9:30 to go in the fourth quarter but ended up uh not resulting in a turnover on Downs West fora would get the ball back they had an 11pl drive and uh that was uh their longest drive of the game uh but uh ended up having a really good field position as they worked deep into Newman territory made it all the way inside their 30 but a bad snap lost 14 yards on a first down play the warhawks were able to get it into a fourth and six but uh incomplete pass by Xander Hansen and it resulted in a turnover on downs and Newman was able to close out the game from there a timec consuming Drive of 3 minutes and 50 seconds they ran out the remaining time and hold on for a 20 to5 win tonight uh in this class A District opener your leaders in the game for westfork Dax sunkin he had 12 carries for 60 yards and two touchdowns uh Blaine Schultz 13 carries 74 yards and then Xander Hansen passed for 75 yards to lead the warhawks for Newman Catholic Cole Winer with those the one yard line scampered in and a touchdown the Pat was good and that made it 70 we go to the second quarter 311 Mark a 20 yard pass from Ryder struther to Austin Hansen with the pat good made it 14-0 that's where we went in at halftime in the third quarter the Bulldogs continued their dominance with a 60-yard touchdown run Colin bird blasted through the line took off to the end zone the extra again this time an eight- yard touchdown reception by huder from Nathan moon to make the score 36 to nothing the two-point conversion no good right before halftime Dunkerton did find the End Zone on a 14 yard touchdown reception right before the half to make it 36-6 at the half coming out a half time Clarksville went on a two-play drive capped off by John staer 33 yard touchdown re I should say 33 yard reception to start the drive and it was capped off by a three- yard touchdown run by Cavin kman two-point conversion no good to make it 42-6 and there late the third quarter we would have another touchdown by Clarksville this time a sevenard touchdown run by Nathan Moon the two-point conversion was good to make it 50-6 and one more score there in the fourth quarter Clarksville would get a 55 yard touchdown run on a oneplay drive nonetheless by Nathan moon to make it 58 to6 and that was your final four tonight and as we said Nathan Moon had himself a night for Clarksville as he finished with 15 carries 196 yards and five touchdowns also Cav cuman 10 carries 90 yards and two touchdowns and passing for Nathan Moon six of eight for 77 yards and a touchdown pass to Sam huder and Coach Darren bowan had a lot to say about his Star both at the quarterback position and at the running back position that's Nathan Moon that's awesome that uh he can get that in the end zone you know we we spread the ball around but uh he did a good job of of uh running hard and breaking some tackles and our offensive line did a great job opening up the holes so uh overall our offense was outstanding keep telling them we're we're pushing first to five and just didn't get that done tonight in all four sets but they stayed with it even through we just weren't playing our best ball but we we stayed [Applause] [Music] I'm Dave Stein reporting from Hampton on the Dale Howard overdrive on KMJ at 99 the wave tonight the Cowboys of clar and Goldfield Dows and the Bulldogs of Hampton Dumont Cal met for the 104th time since dating back all the way to 1902 this rivalry has been going on for well over a century well tonight the Bulldogs had the Cowboys number at the 447 mark it was a blocked Cowboy punt recovered by HD Kell right on the one yard line scampered in and a touchdown the Pat was good and that made it 70 we go to the second quarter 311 Mark a 20 yard pass from Ryder struther to Austin Hansen with the pat good made it 14-0 that's where we went in at halftime in the third quarter the Bulldogs continued their dominance with a yard touchdown run Colin bird blasted through the line took off to the end zone the extra point was blocked that made it 20 to Z and with 34 seconds left in the in the third quarter Brady Harr would scoop up a fumble recovery race 60 yards to the end zone and a two-point conversion was good made it 280 and then the 1013 mark it was a cowboy punt that dropped down in front of a whole bunch of players both teams stood there Brody sters picks it up takes off and races to the end zone and puts HD calop with a two-point conversion puts him up 35 with 955 remaining in the ball game Charlie Campbell gets on the board for the Cowboys by taking a 93 yard kickoff return to the house the extra point good by Selvin Gonzalez and that is where we finish with the final 357 HD Cal had a total of only 227 yards um and a lot of that came in the second half so HD Cal the Bulldogs go to two and0 on the season and they are on the road next week the Cowboys are at home against Southeast Valley for homecoming they are now one and one on the season Once again the Bulldogs of HD Cal defeat the Cowboys of cgd by a score of 35 to7 reporting for the Dale Howard overdrive on KMJ and 99 the wave I'm Dave Stein thank you thank you very much Dave appreciate the mobile app the TV app we're also on YouTube tonight Facebook live and uh I think Twitter as well or X formerly known as Twitter I think we're all of those places uh thanks for joining us however you're listening or viewing tonight uh getting to uh some college football previews for this weekend uh this is a a matchup that Mitch Williams called uh the biggest game in the state uh this weekend we'll see about that after opening with a win over valarezo the Northern Iowa Panthers will face their first road test at St Thomas of Minnesota on Saturday Northern Iowa head coach Mark Farley says under coach Glenn Caruso the tomies have been a consistent winner at different levels he's a stalemate of a solid discipline sound hard-nosed football team but that's why they win so yes this is a they've got tradition they've got resources they've got players they've got a staff I mean this isn't just some other team this is a very good football team in his first start quarterback Aiden dun completed 12 of 16 for 116 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers 35 to7 palpo I thought he did did a did a great job he's a he's a walk-on quarterback from debuk that's stood in here for two three years to learn the system and he gets his first start and he operates like to me that that was an awesome job for him to build himself into that kind of player in the first game Farley says going on the road tomorrow we'll present A new challenge for the purple and gold this team got off to a great start we just have to build from that and keep it on point and keep sending the message and then they have to they have to get the message too kickoff will be at 1 pm with pregame getting underway with JW Cox on the call on the Panther Sports Network on 99 the wave and now to the real a big game in the state uh not sliding Northern Iowa by any stretch of the imagination but uh Iowa and Iowa State of course will collide in their 71st meeting of the S Hawk series in kinnick stadium the Hawkeyes have won seven of the last eight in the uh and in the last six meeting uh the average margin of Victory is less than six points a close battle always between the Cyclones and the Hawkeyes head coach Kirk fence for the Hawkeyes says Iowa state has become an outstanding program under Matt Campbell got an identity and a system that works really well for them and I think that's why they've been so successful you know they they U run the ball control the ball uh they pass it well too but I mean they they're balanced on offense and then defensively they've been really good and they to me that that put them in the mix with the other teams in that that u in that conference Fen says Iowa State's defense has made them a contender in the Big 12 that League was not exactly like known for defense and ours is probably a little bit more so that way at least you know that's it's kind of been the trend and you I think uh coach hok he's an outstanding coach great person uh he he's really he came in with a vision I'm not sure where it all got incubated or how it got hatched but um you know they've been good on defense basically after that first year that first year was a year of adjustment but from my vantage point they've been good on defense all the way through and they've been good on offense too Fen says the experience of cyclone quarterback Roco Beck will make the Cyclone offense a challenge to stop I think he's a very confident guy very very poised and just does a good job running their offense so they've got a really talented group of receivers uh tight end brommer a really good football players so they've got guys that they can get the ball to and I'm sure they will so he's he's done a really nice job leading their football team and uh I'm guessing his best football is still ahead him fence always expressing love for the tight ends as well while Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell calls this a big test for the Cyclones you know you're going into a hostile environment obviously you're going into a game that has a lot of hype around it from the outside and you know the the ability to block that out and the ability to understand that to win on the road it's going to be about those precision and detail moments it's going to be about man playing our style of football and can you do that against a really good opponent the Cyclones made explosive plays in a win over North Dakota last week but the trick against the Hawkeye defense will be to make plays without making mistakes that is a fine line and it's a great balance I I think you you know when you look at a at a game like this and being aggressive is one thing you know being intelligent is the most important thing and you know there there's ways to be aggressive with intelligence along the way and um you know in all honesty both sides of the football you're going to have to do a great job of that that'll be a huge impact on this game in my opinion playing this early in the season makes the Rivalry unique for the shawk trophy I think having a game like this early having a big game preparing for those things um man what you can learn about yourself and how you can take it and the momentum you can create for yourself um those are huge those are huge wins and so I think you look at it as as such a great opportunity to really build your team and um continue to build yourself forward so I I think from all those things that's what makes this game really unique and different John Walters will have the call for the Cyclone radio network that can be heard at 12:30 with pregame and kickoff between the Hawkeyes and the Cyclones at 2:30 you can listen to that on 104.9 klmj stay tuned more high school football coverage coming your way scores and reports coming up from around warhawks were on the road at Mason City Newman I'm Joshua Hamond reporting for radio on the go from Newman Catholic High School in Mason City where on Friday night westfork met Newman Catholic in a class A District opener as the War Hawks fell to Newman Catholic on Friday night 22:15 in a game where the offens has ruled the first quarter and early second quarter and defenses really locked things down in the second half let's get to the action following a warhawks punt on their opening Drive Newman Catholic would go six plays and a cash in with 734 to go in the first quarter on a 13 yard touchdown run by Cole Wier it was 8 nothing nights the warhawks took a deep breath and responded on the following drive as it started with 726 to go in the first quarter they would go 12 plays and cash in on a 12 y touchdown carry by Dax sunken he also completed the two-point conversion attempt with a minute 37 to go in the first quarter we were tied at eight but Newman would strike quickly on the kickoff as uh open field for Isaiah Kon as he took it to the house a 75 yard kickoff return the two-point conversion was no good with a minute 23 to go in that first quarter 14 to8 nights the warhawks though would respond with another long drive and a timec consuming drive at that as uh it ended up taking five minutes the end of the first quarter which there was still a minute 23 left and then leaked into the second quarter a nine playay drive as Dax sunin scored his second touchdown of the night from one yard out and the point after attempt was good by Xander Hansen it was 1514 warhawks with 9115 to though in the second quarter the knights on the following drive would fumble the ball warhawks were unable to cash in on that drive though uh they would uh get up field but uh after a bad snap had to punt the ball and on that following Drive Newman would score uh their go-ahead touchdown on a three-play drive as uh with a minute 54 is where they started the drive they would score with 35 seconds left in the first half a 35 yd touchdown run by Cole weiner his second of the game and it was 20 to 15 Newman after the two-point conversion was no good and that was your score after at the half as the warhawks ended up throwing an interception on the final play of the first half into the second half Newman started with the ball and got deep into warhawks territory but it was that warhawks defense stepping up once again with a turnover defending inside their own 30 yard line they forced an interception warhawks unable to do anything with the ball though as they would end up punting it and then Newman had the ball back once again and had a really timec consuming drive as uh it started with 435 to go in the third and didn't end Till There Was 9:30 to go in the fourth quarter but ended up uh not resulting in a turnover on Downs West fora would get the ball back they had an 11 playay drive and uh that was uh their longest drive of the game uh but uh ended up having a really good field position as they worked deep into Newman territory made it all the way inside their 30 but a bad snap lost 14 yards on a first down play the warhawks were able to get it into a fourth and six but uh incomplete pass by Xander Hansen and it resulted in a turnover on downs and Newman was able to close out the game from there a time consuming Drive of 3 minutes and 50 seconds they ran out the remaining time and hold on for a 20 to5 win tonight uh in this class A District opener your leaders in the game for westfork Dax sunkin he had 12 carries for 60 yards and two
