The J.K. Dobbins Signing Means More Than You Think.

The Chargers Signed J.K. Dobbins the Chargers just signed JK Dobbins and this means a couple of things to me there's actually a lot to talk about with this move but let me just get this out of the way first we are becoming the Baltimore charger with all of these Baltimore Ravens and Michigan Wolverines coming to play for the Chargers so make sure to like And subscribe if you do enjoy this content bro it helps me out so much and let me start off with what JK Dobbins brings to the Chargers J.K. Dobbins Highlights because JK Dobbins actually fits really well into the backfield alongside a guy like Gus Edwards he is Shifty he's a change of pace guy who can make one cut and just boom run straight down the field he's also smaller than Gus Edwards is so he can squeeze through those holes in the offensive line that a bigger running back like Gus debus cannot get through he's strong and he keeps turning his legs for extra yardage but the best part of his game is his lateral agility he is so quick moving from side to side bro and that sets up to Defenders to be in bad position and he also sets himself up for cut back lanes and Juke moves to make guys miss in the open field it is a beautiful thing when this guy is healthy and moving like that he has 47 Miss tackles forced on only 266 attempts in the NFL and he also has 41 runs that have gone for 10 or more yards which means that's an explosive play he rushed for 1,347 yards with 12 touchdowns in only 24 games play played with the Ravens but he also averaged 5.8 yard per attempt that is more than Gus Edwards average and we always talk about how efficient Gus Edwards is as a running back always being able to get you those two three four yards when you need it and JK Dobbins actually averaged more yards per attempt so now we have two running backs that basically every time you hand them the ball you have a good chance at getting about five yards a pop nobody averaged more yards per carry than JK Dobbins these past Four Seasons even though he has not been able to stay on the field consistently and that is his biggest concern he has struggled with injuries his whole career even going JK Dobbins - Injuries back into high school man he had a leg fibula fracture so that's a broken leg which caused him to miss his whole senior season of high school then he tore his ACL and LCL had a miniscus trim and hamstring tear with the Ravens and then missed the whole 2023 season with an Achilles injury in week one those are some big and serious injuries and it's not just soft tissue stuff that Ben Herbert says he can prevent because he also broke his leg every single one of those injuries he suffered have been major concerning injuries that if he just had like one of those injuries you would be cautious he has only played in 24 games through four seasons in the NFL which means he's been able to play less than half the time and he is a 25-year-old running back so you know still young not really young for a running back but he is still young and with all of these injuries under his belt already you have to question whether or not he can stay on the field but he has come to the right place because if Ben Herbert cannot get him healthy in playing on the NFL field then I don't think any other NFL team is going to be able to keep him healthy so Comp Pick Formula and the Chiefs I think it's a really good decision for JK Dobbins to sign with the Chargers and also the Chargers it's a good decision to sign him because this is going to be a low- money deal a one-year contract and it's not going to affect the comp pick formula because I would assume that the money is under 2 million anything under 2 million it's not going to affect the compi formula but let's start talking about that because that is why I actually thought this is really interesting because they made this move one week prior to the draft so I think possibly the Chiefs which is the other team that JK Dobbins was visiting maybe the chiefs were kind of putting pressure on him trying to get him to sign with them and then he told the Chargers or his agent told the Chargers and then the Chargers said you know what we're going to take a flyer on JK Dobbins bring him back with with Greg Roman we already have Gus Edwards here in the backfield let's just reunite this pairing because it worked out really well in Baltimore he already knows the terminology he knows the system with Greg Roman and with Jim Harbaugh and Ben Herbert let's have him in this culture see if he can stay healthy not going to affect the comp piic formula like I said even though it is a pre-may 2nd signing anything after May 2nd you can sign a free agent it does not affect the comp piic formula and it's also really Isaiah Spiller and Elijah Dotson interesting to me because I actually did not expect the Chargers to sign JK Dobbins because I thought that they were kind of fine with this running back room the way it is now and then they were going to address that position in the draft now don't get me wrong the signing of JK Dobbins it does not mean that they're not going to draft a running back I don't think that changes anything the thing that this does change is the guys that are currently on the roster I'm looking at Isaiah Spiller specifically and Elijah doson I mean both of these guys couldn't really get onto the field they were inactive a lot of the time last year Isaiah Spiller he was like kind of in the doghouse I don't know why he wasn't playing and now it seems like he's on the outside looking in on this roster and so is I Elijah doson because if JK Dobbins can stay healthy he's obviously going to make this roster because I think he is a better running back than those two when he is actually playing and Gus Edwards is obviously going to make this roster as well and I still expect the Chargers to address this position maybe even with a a big running back like Blake corm in the draft but certainly somebody in the draft on day 3 and then also in undrafted free agency as well because we always get undrafted free agent running backs the Ravens always get undrafted free agent running backs I mean Gus Edwards him himself was an undrafted free agent that Joe hortiz found and got onto the Ravens Elijah Dodson was an undrafted free agent this past season I'm just concerned with the running backs that we have in this room right now with Gus Edwards and JK doin and then the guys that are going to come in after the draft is there room for Isaiah Spiller still on this team and Elijah doson I mean another thing to to note here is that like Isaiah Spiller was on the outside looking in and I don't really know why Isaiah Spiller was always like a healthy scratch he only played in 15 games in these past two entire seasons and he's a fourth round pick Elijah doson was even playing over him at times this past season when Isaiah Spiller was a healthy scratch and maybe it's because of his special teams play because Elijah doson and Joshua Kelly were both playing on special teams I don't recall really ever seeing Isaiah Spiller on special teams so maybe that has something to do with it and then also it is worth noting Ryan ficken the special teams coach last year he is still the special teams coach this year so if they want a running back in that backfield that can also uh Play Special Teams I actually think Elijah doson might have a better chance at making the roster over Isaiah Spiller at Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz Connection this point and another big thing that this tells me is that you cannot underestimate the Jim Harbaugh and the Joe hortiz connection because now we have seen five signings in free agency with connections from Michigan and the Ravens so that means if we follow this trend into the draft we're going to be drafting some Michigan guys and probably a couple of them which is you know fine by me because there are a lot of good Michigan players this year thanks Jim Harbaugh in the second round I would say look for a guy like Junior Coulson or Mike sandr still in the third round you can get a guy like Chris Jenkins or Roman Wilson you know I'm not going to go through every single Michigan player there's a lot of really good ones especially on defense but my two biggest Full Breakdown of JK Dobbins Signing takeaways here are not actually JK Dobbins it's the fact that this running back room is getting a little crowded and I'm worried about Isaiah spiller's future on this team because I would like to see what we have in him before we just give up on him and also number two this connection to the Ravens and the University of Michigan it is very real they want the guys that they are familiar with so I hope JK Dobbins can come in and stay healthy it's going to be very interesting to see how they address the running back position in the draft and also in undrafted free agency I hope JK Dobbins can stay healthy because then we would have a good problem to have in the backfield we got a lot of good running backs who do you keep right and also all those Michigan players that I was talking about keep an eye on them in the draft because we are definitely going to be taking some of those guys if you don't know a lot of Every Michigan Football Draft Prospect them I went over almost every single Michigan Prospect in this video
