welcome to Houston Texas and the home of the rice owls where we are anticipating a Full House of Fans who give a hoop what an exciting matchup we have in store for you this afternoon built around the pageantry tradition and everything that makes college football great as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the San Diego State Aztec taking on a team from the AAC the rice Al for EA Sports college football Reese Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one started [Applause] well that's some way to start this game they're riding up for an onside kick they were ready for the onside kick and executed perfectly and they secure the football great job there by the re got your opponent here on the road you're not caught off guard on the opening kick of the game you're able to fall on it now your offense has the ball in great field position you have got to make them pay for that gamble line gets set first down s wide receiver coming across in motion quick pass on the Fly motion running toward the tape he's at the 10 and he ran away from the defense to take it in touchdown right when that receiver got three it was all over and it's so nice to have a receiver like this as a quarterback cuz you pad my stats I like those long touchdown passes where I just threw it really short and he did the rest of the work about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown oh he's going to take a chance now not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 first down for the [Applause] offense he wants to throw dances away from the heat he's got an open man and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one ripped off a chunk on the opening play of this drive now it's first down from the 48 forced out of the pocket trying to make magic with his feet he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down well they dial up a pass play there on first down and how about the quarterback there bu his time he's outside he's looking for people to get open on the scramble drill but there's nothing happening and just a really quick and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback that's not Lamar Jackson back there scrambling around this is a guy the defense felt like if we can get him out of the pocket and flush him we can get after him and chase him bring him down and they did that one pretty easy there getting the sack the Aztec in the hurry up to the air it's Duppy moves away as he feels pressure finds his big tight end I like this tight end he does a really nice job on his route running he's been beating man coverage he can find the soft spots and zones you got to get him involved let's see what they do on third down to the ground to try to move the chains they make the stop but this running game moves the chains as they get the first down and the Aztecs come to the line with a new set of downs going up top on first down this offense knew coming into this one guys how important it was to start early and on this opening drive for them they're doing a nice job running the football there on third down they're in a position on the field now if you're on defense you got to be ready for a shot throw into the end zone got it it's first down from the 11 he's looking to throw it fires into the end zone almost intercepted they took a shot on first down and just about turn the thing over operating in the Red Zone here on second down crcket misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air he wants it all can't make the grab as he was going for six right there yeah and because of the pressure the defense gets pressure on him immediately so quickly that he he makes a bad decision tries to throw it into double coverage really nice job pressuring the quarterback up front looking for the score and that one is picked off in the end zone he looked as if he thought he had it all the way and this junior makes a play this quarterback was having success throwing on the opening drive of the game large part because it's a lot harder to throw on third down when the defense is expecting it like you saw right there they were ready had a really good coverage call to get the int on the move at the 30 the express way is wide open and the tackle was made but not before that completion gets them 30 plus after ripping off a big chunk of yardage you figure they're going to go right back after him first and 10 from the 31 looking to move it through the air can't find a man and he'll be knocked down at the 40 the defense coming up big there and the sack is great but the secondary deserves some credit too no doubt when you can cover like that in the secondary and drop back in your Zone and only Rush a few and you feel comfortable getting home and they're going to get to the back that is a great feeling and that's fun to be a defensive coordinator [Applause] calling trying to move the sticks on third down through the air and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf we're already in the first quarter but already you get the feeling this could be a long day for this QB he's already been sacked he gets hit right there on the incomplete throw they've got to find a way to do a better job up front of protecting this guy or it's going to be difficult to put up points on fourth down looking for the completion and it's incomplete and the defense holds and that is a big time drop right there fourth down opportunity to catch it maybe get the first down that is that is tough to swallow but as a QB I got to walk over to him and say listen dude we're going to need you later on I still believe it and after the stop that is going to put a bow on this first quarter back to pass it's Duffy pressure coming and the incomplete pass will wrap up the first quarter the of the first quarter ran dieg a third down play to get the quarter started looking to throw and he needs a bunch scrambling away he's looking on the right side and he's got it inside the 30 yd line what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in and he was drilled just as he released the pass it's incomplete nice job by the quarterback trying to buy time and scrambling to the right but it was the hit that forced that incompletion motion by the back forc is the defense to adjust looking to [Applause] scramble quarterback all over the place trying to make a play but eventually he goes down yeah and how about this defense great job on second down and long now forcing an even more predictable situation this offensive line better get it together cuz that pass rush is coming this is a third and long the sweet feet keeping the Play Alive now he'll fire back into the middle stagged in the end zone touchdown azx well I'm not sure to the receiver there the defensive backs or us here in the boot that was great execution on offense receiver wins the route one-on-one shows off his speed gets himself wide open there was no question where the quarterback was going with that ball nice job so he took a chance by using a Timeout on the challenge and it comes back to B him we'll see if he needs that timeout later and his throw is incomplete well every coordinator has a couple of two-point plays in his back pocket they dialed one up there they didn't get it let's see how that affects the outcome of this one they got it able to recover the onside kick and they get the offense right back out there guys let's see what adjustments this San Diego State offense has made this time boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm moved the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make cuz they got to stop the bleeding right now we reached the two-minute warning and we have ourselves a ball game and they have a chance to take the lead here before the half this offense has a second down [Applause] play back to throw it's Duffy On The Run still looking and they couldn't hold off the heat and he goes down with a sack the clock is not their friend got to get everybody to the line quickly [Applause] on Third and long he'll have to turn it loose deep got him downfield and they explode on that one and they've got it down to the 22 nice play design on that one you make it easy for your quarterback too because it's easy to see what's happening right in front of you over the middle of the field you can see where Defenders are dropping you can see where the soft spots lets it fly deep downfield he's got it in the end zone touchdown San Diego State number 83 and I just love the execution by this offense late in the half man you want to take the lead you want to get that momentum oh they're faking if the holder is going to try to throw it and he'll go out of bounds well short of the goal line as the fake didn't have a chance this is ultra aggressive still in the first half got the lead and going for the onside kick that's why they call them the hands team they're able to secure the onside kick we're only in the first half and I don't think anybody had onside kick in the second quarter on their bingo card they were trying to catch the opponent off guard but it didn't work now let's find out what this offense can do you've got to make them pay for gambling a lot of times when that Ball's coming out you can tell the offensive lineman want to get those defensive lineman's hands down they want to hit him engage on great job by the defensive end getting his hands up in the air and getting the deflection and that did not work defense smelled that one out from the beginning you know this linebacker is a special player because not only is he good making tackles in the open field this guy can cover and you saw a great example of it with that running back on Third and long hoping to throw beyond the [Applause] sticks oh and he he dropped it he had a touchdown right in his hands and couldn't hang on it'll be fourth down this is a point where you just got to be able to focus and the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you've got to be able to make that play the offense failed to convert on fourth down earlier but that didn't change their thinking here he'll try to throw and pick up the first down crosses the 30 he's got away finally right out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down quarterbacks are you there's so many adjectives to describe calm cool collected accurate so on and so on but a lot of times it's just smart understanding the situation the down and distance and knowing where that first down marker is great job going to get that first down new set of downs the owls will have it first and 10 used the play fake now to throw they're bringing heat pass rush coming after the quarterback and they get him at the 32 often times with play action you're asking the quarterback to hold on the ball a bit longer and you're asking this offensive line to hold up and pass Pro a bit longer against this athletic front seven on defense it's going to be tough fires downfield find space on the right and he won't quite get there but boy after that pick up just a few inches to go for the first and a r of possibilities [Applause] here they'll throw on Third and short caught over the middle it's Conor makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half into the End Zone it falls incomplete he was trying to find his man for six I love the coverage on defense in the Red Zone everyone's got their on the quarterback and they're flying to the football and you saw that there on the incompletion after getting nothing it's second and goal from the six little touch pass to the receiver and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer one more snap coming before halftime he'll keep it on the sneak wedges pushes and he's over and in for the touchdown what great execution by this offense it looked like you about to go into the half trailing now with this answer this scoring drive you got the lead you got the momentum taking it into halftime nice job by this offense executing that last Drive lining up to attack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they have a two-point lead so they take advantage of good field position and move it 46 yd and it was finished off with the quarterback sneak rice ready to kick off and get things started here in the second half and it's caught from inside the 20 and here he comes there he goes open it up he'll take it to the house touchdown as T you we just went to half and we drew up all these adjustments and things we got to do differently to take advantage how about the Special Teams coming out to start the second half and setting the tone taking the kick all the way back and the defense on him and he will go down sacked on the two-point try they'll try to follow that last touchdown with an onside kick not much drives more anxiety than waiting to see if the hands team can coral the onside kick and they [Music] do rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field on that last Drive defense had no idea what was happening run or pass that wound up in the end zone Jesse yeah you saw the experience in this offense that last drive too on that touch down everybody on the same page these guys have reped these plays over and over in practice and in games and it's working yeah so I got to find a way to disrupt it I got to find a way to maybe be more aggressive mess up this Rhythm they got going I like the play call on offense I like you trying to get the running back involved in the past game too defense was ready for that one let's see what youve got dialed up on third they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here looking to pass pass it's Jenkins going to try to get it himself and he is not going to get there as the defense gets him on the ground rice rushes to the [Applause] line on fourth down they'll run it looking for the first tackle is made but not until he gets the first down here comes the hurry up you know I like the idea to go for it there on fourth down too because at this distance it's definitely not a g field goal right so your best CH touchdown ow they take the lead with the six and you got to love the creativity with the Titans nowadays they can do so many different things does a good job he slips behind the defense defense doesn't know where he went and what does he do he gets in for [Applause] six [Music] 27o they got him to jump the defense got into the neutral zone and that'll be a first down so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty and the Big Fellas are on the field as they try to power it in for [Applause] two trying to power it in he's not going to make it stopped short of the goal line and they are unable to extend this lead any further back lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive San Diego he's going to bring it out from Deep he's brought down at the 16 would have been much better off to take the [Music] Touchback on first down here comes this offense Ed the play fake now to throw unleashes one complete downfield he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense big chunk play to start this drive now they'll really try to take it to this defense he's got it after burner's coming and a pickup of better than thir 30 yards on that completion before the defense brings him down after that huge play right back at him on First and 10 from inside the 15 fires to the end zone and he's got it touchdown San Diego State he has been surgical Precision passes using the scal the fine instrument rather than the blunt one and the defense has had absolutely no answer for it just he's been down their throats all game long a step ahead understanding what he's seeing and just destroying this def well there was a golden opportunity for the offense to Come Away with two points there but he dropped it in the end zone that's a catch you have to make he'll bring it out it's Jackson really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the [Music] [Applause] 19 rise takes over the owls ready to get that offense cooking again Jesse looking to take it down the field for back-to- back touchdowns think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing po yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this he puts a lot of air under it down the sideline oh and it's a pick he threw it right into the double coverage and the offense makes the tackle in frustration after the interception Drive comes up empty and it's a turnover looking for a productive play on first down Ed the play fake now to throw pocket starts to collapse can find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again and the quick shuffle pass in football you hear the turn quick but don't hurt and you can tell when you run these rpos the QBs want to make that decision quick and I think he hurried it a little bit too much got the ball out quick but obviously was inaccurate in his pass wide open downfield plenty of room on that play and they find their way to the 36 the Aztec with the first and 10 wide out in motion to the air it's Duffy throws for the tight end he's got it and he's brought down after a nice game and the Aztecs are marching down the field PS and fires complete to the right he's R out of bounds but a big play on that one and it be a first down I tell you this quarterback has just been in a great Rhythm all game long with that last completion he's now over 300 yd passing b a little time lets it Go touchdown ASX and they made it to the house where they found that six points waiting on him the offense flexes its muscle a bit and widens the Gap take a little exhale you know you did your job you got points now you put your defense in a position where hey go out and get another stop we're in great shape so the offense definitely taking care of their business so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finish things off with an eight- yd toss for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown on the run from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 first and 10 here comes the offense on first down wide receiver now comes in motion off the play fake on first down to throw and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter we wants to fire on second down they'll run the screen on the move is the 30 he's loose strikes to blow the 20 and he'll take it in they couldn't get him on the ground touchdown out man how hard is it to defend when you have a weapon like this at running back that can play wide receiver you can design ways to get the football in his hand Palmer once you get in his hands he'll do the rest yeah no doubt I mean and often times those are easier throws for quarterbacks these running backs they're just naturally so good when they have the football out in space their Vision their creativity their ability to make people miss and this guy showed you right there a difficult difficult guy to stop now if you're this defense moving forward and they tacked on the extra point they're just about ready to kick it away just into the end zone and he'll bring it out he stopped short of the 20 at the 19 and probably wishes he had just taken the [Applause] Touchback guys we're about to get another look at this San Diego State offense trying to find his man on first down got his man quick they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover to pick up the first I like this taking the safe play getting the positive gain and seeing if you can build some momentum and I think it's making the right play Reese that that's where quarterbacks get in trouble sometimes when they get too aggressive and then they get behind the sticks a little bit I see a lot of space take advantage of it get it to my running back let him chew that up and now it's easier on the next down throws to the tight end got his man and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup this is so interesting right now watching this offense stay aggressive they've got the lead in the fourth quarter and you're thinking at home we got to just run the ball and try to bleed the clock they found something on defense they're taking advantage of two straight completions I won't be surprised if they throw it again looking deep he got it and he'll run out of bounds just short of the goal line wanted to get it in M could couldn't quite get home and it looks as if they've buzzed down replay wants to have another Peak at that last play and they take another look at the play but the officials on the field we right and the play will stand and this offense not only has a chance to extend the lead and to the end zone he goes touchdown San Diego State touchdown San Diego State number 15 in the end zone why not double the try total and go for two looking to throw it's Duffy he's got it two-point try as good as they build on this lead 27 almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown to advance on the football coming out with it it's Jackson I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field defense a little too jumpy there and they got into the neutral zone too soon contact in the neutral zone leads to that penalty good news for the offense defense line gets set first down he'll set up to throw trying to get to it and the pass rush is effective and they tackle him at the 19 second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning we hit the two-minute warning and this offense is desperate to make something happen and do it in a hurry he wants to pass it on second down here's a throw downfield late and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taken but couldn't reel it in third and short they've got them backed up inside the 20 and the D can get the ball back here he's going up top here late in the game and trying to put points on the board on third down now they're staring at fourth down this offense believes you are given four Downs for a reason you've got to use all of them two for three so far today coming after it and here's a fumble way behind the line and the defense has it everybody reverse skap touchdown as Texs don't just get the ball score with the ball and the defense did getting aggressive here and going for two we the defense comes up with the fumble and takes it to the house the old scoop and score create the fumble pick that puppy up take it to the house great job by the defense not only forcing the turnover but getting points at they're lining up to kick it away and that defense salivating after getting the scoop and score and he's coming out of the end zone I imagine he's going to get an earful on the sideline after bringing it out of the end zone and being knocked down at Feld first down for this offense the receivers often will run their route based on a side adjustment he wastes no time and comes out throwing he wants a big play here late and that ball is ha in inside the 35 that's a beautiful pass and catch I love the job the quarterback does manipulating the defense with his eyes he Froze that safety and that allowed his receiver more willing to work his way hit hard just as he released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver didn't connect last time let's see if they throw it again on second down looking for a man it's Jenkins throws toward the end zone and that's going to be incomplete going for broke on second down but third Down's coming up he this defense has put a game together like it is hard to put all the facets of Defense together run defense pass defense they've been so good man fires into traffic picked off and he's brought down after the pick but not before putting his offense in business this is a beautiful situation for the defense when you're up by two plus scores and you're in this situation you know exactly what is coming it's going to be a pass they have to because the clock is their enemy great job playing pass forcing the interception almost putting the nail in the call they'll throw it on first [Applause] [Music] down and the pass is incomplete but there is a flag and that receiver might have used a push off to get free the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty they'll operate out of split backs coming out on first down with the play fake he fires it out to the right throws it back across cross his body and what do you think happened intercepted he would have loved to make the big return there but he still gets his team the ball at the 37 it's really hard when that quarterback gets outside the pocket because it cuts off half of the field once he starts to roll out everybody starts to Sprint to the other side of the heel off one deep down the left side what a spectacular grab there as they try to finish this game with a little something to feel good about and the owls line it up with a first and goal he's looking to throw makes the grab takes it to the house touchdown out and a nice touchdown continuing to fight continuing to play this one it's pretty much over down multiple possessions this late in the football game it would take a miracle but nice job by this offense continue to fight push the ball down the field make plays let's see if they can roll Snake Eyes in a good way and get the deuce back to throw it's Jenkins and he got smacked just as he released the pass it's incomplete they're definitely up against it time running out down two possessions he'll try the onside kick few anxious moments there but the hands team true to its name as they make the grab and get the ball yeah and this is why you put your hands team on the field most of the time when you know it's coming and you put those guys great catches the football the first guys what do they do they go blocked they go blow somebody up the next guys catch the football secure it get your butt on the ground and most of the time when you do this the ball game is he's there to make the Stop and they threw it in reverse losing yardage on that play well they triy to spit it out to the running back on the perimeter of the field you saw the speed and recognition by the defense though how quickly they were able to get to the back and get him down for a big loss and passes incomplete Jarred Loose by the hit and that's your goal separate man from ball try to get your shoulder in there on the catch point and really make give him something to think about physically jar that football and knock it out nice job by the defender he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well there's just nowhere to go for the runner on that last play just way too much penetration up front as a result they lose yardage clock is stopped timeout used by the defense for 15 seconds left on fourth down he'll try to toss it going deep a full dive to haul that one in timeout is called and the clock is down to eight San dieg the Aztec will line it up on First and 10 he's going to pass unloads to the wide out and it's picked off for the third time today he goes out of bounds but he creates the turnover and a great opportunity for his offense one more play to pad the stats to the air on first down he's taking a deep shot late in the game and the ball falls to the ground incomplete the game game is over and that's just sort of how this one is gone scoreboard operator got a workout in this one fun game for us to watch but they can't come up with the w yeah and it's a team game right the offense did their job and now defense will have to find a way in the future to make better plays get stops and stop them scoring so many points especially when your offense does their job and we see a lot of games like this in college football when both offenses are just trading blows back and forth and it just comes down to which defense can get a stop and unfortunately for the in team they just
