and strong winds to southern Louisiana, USA, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. The
National Weather Service warned of flash floods and "life-threatening" conditions
in New Orleans and surrounding areas. Hurricane Francine, classified as a Category
2 storm with winds of 100 miles per hour on Wednesday, weakened to a tropical storm
with winds of 50 mph early Thursday, causing power outages for
more than 392,000 customers. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) stated
that Storm Francine made landfall in Morgan City as a Category 2 storm with winds of
100 mph. Meanwhile, a flash flood emergency was declared for New Orleans after six
to eight inches of rain hit the area. The center of Hurricane Francine is located
about 20 miles northwest of New Orleans and is moving northeast at 14 mph. Hurricane
Francine also made landfall in Houma, Terrebonne Parish. Life-threatening storm
surge and sizable urban flash flood warnings. house right underneath the Mazda haven't
made it into the house yet thank goodness yes Rainfall reached 4 to 6 inches in St. James
Parish and Jefferson Parish in New Orleans. Local officials urged residents to stay indoors due to
flooding on the streets caused by Storm Francine, as water had begun entering homes.
