Jesse you were on the call for for TSN for the big upset Victory by Gabriel Dio over Arthur Fe what was the key to the to the win for Doo well look he he really had to be aggressive and and there was going to be times in that match where I was a little hesitant myself to see if he was going to really keep that up you know that I I told myself and on the call I said there's going to be moments in this set right here coming up where he's going to have to hurdle a couple different you know obstacles here and he handled it unbelievable Mark I was so impressed with doo even though he was uper break once gave it back and then you know at the end of it when he went to serve for it I was like okay this is going to be a big showing and on the call I I I said I felt like I was witnessing a boy become a man even though he's six foot eight and he's a big boy already I I felt like that was a huge maturity showing there from Dio I mean look against a tough opponent like Fe you're not going to get a lot of free points and he really took it to him his first serve percentage was incredible especially in that last set the way he served and you know what surprised me the most was really how solid Dio's backend was throughout the whole match I I felt like the forehand side was the side that he made more errors on um but definitely the side that he's more aggressive on so that's to be expected but the the back end was impeccable to me throughout the whole match and the way he moved forward at the end as well I think that's something that him and Coach Marty Rondo really been working on is you know him finishing points off the net not having to work so hard so it was really good to see the big Canadian get through that and moving forward and being aggressive what stands out the most about his serve I I think the way he disguises it uh The Ball Toss is really similar um and you can't really get a read on it and Fe was trying to do everything he could he was standing closer to the Baseline then he was backing up he was definitely trying to mix up the return stance to kind of give him a different look but Dio did a great job especially on the do side when Fe was standing far back he really used that slider out wide was so so smart and I would have liked to have seen maybe a couple more serving volleys when Feast was so far back but no need when when the seres clicking like that I think you know in his next match against Tommy Paul the first percentage is going to need to be a little bit higher um but other than that it's so difficult to read and obviously it's coming from a different trajectory playing against someone that's 6'8 so very different what are his chances against Paul look look I talked to Marty lond before the match with Fe and and he was the one that said it to me and I said on the broadcast that Dio plays much better when he's the underdog he he swings much more freely against these big top 50 and top 25 opponents and with his game when he's on he can compete with anyone in the world now Tommy Paul obviously the home American and he's been having an incredible summer uh coming off for really solid Olympics getting a medal in in the doubles as well well with his partner Taylor Fritz I think this is going to be a different level of an opponent compared to Fe I think Fe On The hardcore a little bit uh uncomfortable compared to the clay um he's gonna he gonna be more physically tasking against Tommy Paul he's gonna make you play a lot more balls and he handles the pace a lot better than Feast does he also returns a lot better than Feast so there's going to be um more pressure on the doo service game so it'll be interesting to see how he plays out but if if all things are firing on all cylinders for he's not a fun player for anyone to play against you uh you played for for the Americans at the US Open you had that USA flag beside your name how big of a boost is it um it depends what court you're playing on who you're playing against right I mean if you're playing against Tommy Paul on on a big show Court you're definitely going to feel it I mean look at the crowd uh yesterday was pretty like going back and forth I would say with Dio and Fe and there were times where I was hearing the crowd going D I heard that and then you could you can hear screaming Al BL like you can hear both going like pretty crazy and it was a really great atmosphere and someone like Dio who played at University of Kentucky is kind of used to that hostile environment but this is a little different than playing at University of Kentucky and Lexington against the Florida Gators you know this is playing against an American at the US Open um on a Showtime court so gonna be an interesting factor and he's played Davis Cup before so he knows what it's like um but again I I obviously Tommy Paul is definitely the favorite here on paper but um anything can happen especially when you have a game like Theo and he showed that against Beast I think a lot of people would have thought that that was going to be a really tough matchup for him and I felt like he dominated pretty much 90% of that match so whatever happens against Paul this has been a magical run by Dio uh he's just getting started this is only a second Grand Slam main draw what is his potential moving forward well in the live rankings he's going to be about 103 104 now so pretty close to cracking the top 100 which is huge because that means that he's direct acceptance into every Grand Slam next year starting at the Australian Open so that would be uh in my opinion should be the first goal for D is to crack the top 100 and to be main draw of these Grand Slams because one obviously the prize money is amazing but two like gives you the biggest chance of racking up the ranking points and putting yourself in the big leagues you know week in and week out and that's when he'll really start putting on the ranking points when he's main draw of all the ATP event in grand slams and not having to go through qualifying even though here um you know winning three matches under his belt and getting a couple days off was great because he's confident he's played more matches on in these conditions than the players that he's played against so he had a little bit of an advantage there but physically if you want to go deep in these mangers you got to stay fresh I mean you're playing best set of five sets with a day off and it's a two- week long event so I think look Dio's potential is is is very very high uh the sky's a limit for him I know Frank danic and Nico todero who's been doing some work with tennis Canada as well and Marty Londo have done an incredible job and Frank was you know Frank the Tank was really high on Dio from when he was a kid he told me he's like watch out for this kid Doo because the the the weapons that he has are through the roof right so and you see that you know when things are firing on all cylinders again I say it time and time again there's really nothing that anyone can do because he takes the racket out of your hand um when you can make him play that extra ball and turned it into a little bit of a physical battle then it's could be a different story and we'll see if Tommy Paul can kind of handle that and neutralize uh the weapons from Dio coming up in his next round but again I I definitely see Dio being in the top 50 without question top 25 who's who knows um you know that's that's look it's fine lines there right but I do see him being a top 50 player without question and then see what happens from there for
