okay co uh good afternoon to both of you um I I thought about this movie a lot and I watched it several times in in preparation to talk to both of you Aaron I think your character uh had what I called restrained rage and as it as it relat to you an Sophia I thought you just had extended Capac I mean compassion excuse me um and it was interesting in reading the description for you Aaron I'll start that it says that you use a particular sket of still a particular set of set of skills to get the bail money back by any means necessary which I found to be ironic considering you just came off a genius MLK uh x uh was there some facet of that character that you actually brought to this character meaning what Malcolm represented and what your character represented in in uh Rebel Ridge that's that's a a beautiful question um I appreciate it and in interestingly so far as chronology um I actually wrapped Rebel Ridge maybe days before I began preparation for MLK X but nonetheless Malcolm X and his uh belief and his belief system and his uh strength has always been a part of my upbringing and my journey as an individual so that is certainly things that I drew on to create this individual of Terry Richmond um I think Terry has something that I describe as he just has this this characteristic that is endlessly centered um he's one of those individuals who when he's in a room he may not say anything or do anything but you know he's in the room um and I think that is Testament to Terry's uh emotional intelligence and it's Testament to his physical intelligence and knowledge and capacity um it was a really exciting character to uh be on the Journey of bringing to life very good and an is so you know I've been watching you in so many roles over the last 20 years you've just done so much um but how in the reading of this were you able emotionally and mentally to place yourself in this town where there of course is a lot of things going on that that are a Miss yeah a lots a Miss um I think I mean when I first read this script I I just I wanted to I never have wanted to be a part of a project so badly uh I was chomping at the bit to to play Summer and to play a character that she comes from a different place than I do but I think a lot of people can relate to her you know I think there's times when we feel like we're on a back foot or we're just sort of trying to get our life back in order and she's in this when we first meet summer she's in she's in sort of isolation mode she's in survival mode she's just trying to get back on her life back on track and when she meets Terry he cracks open this world of possibilities and when they start digging together and understanding that there is um corruption in the town she becomes aware of the fact that she can do something about it and I think that that is a very human story we're all just trying to survive trying to get our ducks in a row go through our day and then when the world breaks open and something happens and it exposes all the injustices around us we do have a choice to stand up and take action and use what power we have to do something about it and so I think even though she's she's different from me she's from a different place I think that's a daily experience that that I have you know when you turn on the news or when you walk down the street and that's how I identify with with summer and I greatly admire her I think she's so brave and I love their relationship I love the dynamic that Jeremy wrote for these two characters they're such unlikely companions they're such unlikely allies and it's also a platon relationship which we never get to see in an action film where there there's this deep friendship that goes past just being buddies where they're like at death's door together putting it all on the line and I think that that friendship that buds throughout this film is so they end up needing each other in really unique ways and that was such a fun thing to explore with with Aaron um and also I was so grateful to Jeremy for for writing this this relationship in this unlikely story all right well you know what my time is up but this movie is on Netflix on September the 6 cannot wait for the audiences to see the interaction between the two of you guys in this town and thank you both for your time this afternoon thank you sir thank you all right G take care all right man [Music] oh [Music]
