Before that, the demolition workers arrived at the Carola Bridge and began removing concrete piece by piece. The ledged bridge train must be taken down, smashed and transported away, an event that many did not want to miss. It started with a loud bang in the evening; two smaller explosions were necessary on bridge Z. Supply lines such as district heating pipes must be separated, as must the tram tracks. For safety reasons, the surrounding buildings were evacuated. The targeted demolition is intended to forestall the major collapse of the Carola Bridge. Everything has to be ready before the flood, which is expected on Sunday . Otherwise the bridge could simply be swept away; time is of the essence in Dresden.
