Chicago Bears Roster Moves | Bears TRADE for DT Chris Williams

what's up guys we have some more Bears roster moves to talk about let's go ahead and get right into it Ryan poles has traded another six round pick sending a 20256 to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for defensive tackle Chris Williams and a 2025 sth round pick from Cleveland the Bears continue bringing in help for this defensive line exactly where I expected these moves to be made on top of that the Bears have also released Keith Randolph Jr and tight end Tommy Sweeney and placed a couple of players on the injured reserve Ian wheeler who's been a great story seems to have torn his ACL and been placed on the IR he was having a great Camp also the Bears are placing NBA Webster and Douglas Coleman on the injured reserve Coleman was taken to the hospital on Thursday's preseason finale he has been released and he's okay he was walking on his own but he will spend the season on the IR with the neck injury now let's talk about the defensive tackle we traded for Chris Williams one day after trading for another Edge rusher Ryan poles has added to the interior of this defensive line as well Williams is a stout and Powerful player who has pretty good athleticism and is a hustle player who never stops this year in the preseason with the Browns he had an 80.0 PFF grade and an 80.1 and an 81.6 six pass rush grade he's a Relentless pass rusher who gives up his body and has a high motor this year in the preseason in just 21 pass rush snaps he had two sacks four pressures and a forced fumble he also had three tackles for loss and was putting together a really solid preseason for the Browns a team that has a lot of depth at defensive tackle this is a guy who seems to have gotten better and works hard to continue improving he was an undrafted free agent out of Wagner College he signed with the Colts in 2020 and he spent two seasons playing underneath Matt Eber flu so our head coach is very familiar with him he was 6'2 300 lb coming out of college with long arms he has 34 plus inch arms and an 80 plus inch wingspan he has trimmed down though he said he's currently playing at 285 he did 23 reps of 225 of the combine and he spent four seasons in the NFL as a backup but he has not gotten many reps yet he has less than 120 career snaps but he does have 10 pressures this year in the preseason he also spent some time at defensive end as well showcasing his versatility Eber flu said that Williams has grown tremendously over the last two years he's a guy who plays really hard and will fit in this locker room flu said he was proud of how williams has grown in the NFL I think we had a big need at defensive tackle after Dexter Billings and pickings our defensive tackle room was was really thin Pickins is also currently hurt as well but I expect Chris Williams to take Byron coward's spot on the roster further improving this defensive line as I mentioned Williams is currently down to 285 but he's still very Stout and powerful he's added some muscle and gotten into better shape over the last few years he was brought in to play the interior but he is versatile enough to get reps at Edge rusher as well I don't think we would have given up a draft pick for this guy unless he was going to make the 3 I see him as our final defensive lineman probably beating out Daniel Hardy and Byron coward Ryan poles continues to have his pulse on this roster and it looks like he really wants this team to be very competitive this year giving away another draft pick for a guy who's a bottom of the roster player tells me that Ryan poles wants to win games he doesn't want to have any major holes on this team heading into the start of the season I think we are going to be very competitive and Ryan poles might not be done if if there's other guys out there that can help this team Ryan poles is probably going to look into it the one thing about this move I will say this is a guy who might have been released he was definitely good enough to make the Browns roster but the Browns have a lot of guys on that defensive line and it's possible this guy could have been cut but all we really did is swap rounds we got a seventh rounder and we gave up a sixth rounder in next year's draft so we moved back one round we did get a pick back so so really if he provides any kind of value it's going to be a big win the Bears were back at practice today focusing a lot on conditioning Matty rlu said he's getting these guys in Top notot Shape for the regular season Flo would also say there will be a padded practice this coming Wednesday and then one final padded practice next Wednesday just four days before we take on the Titans the guys who missed practice today were Kevin Byer Jacob Martin Zack Pickins Ryan Bates Roshan Johnson Larry borham Dante Pettis Colin Johnson Patrick skells Theo Benedict and amen ogong Bigga Jacob Martin and Ryan Bates have both been out of practice for a long time now I'm starting to worry about those guys they haven't been added to the IR yet but they haven't practiced in over three weeks hopefully we get some kind of update on those guys soon it's also kind of concerning that Patrick skells isn't practicing we did bring back Cameron Lions so we currently have another Long Snapper in Camp but we now have less in two weeks for Patrick skells to get healthy hopefully he's okay the other guys that worry me a little bit Zack Pickins Roshan Johnson Larry boram those are guys we're probably going to be counting on at least in backup roles so hopefully we can get an update on them before Tuesday Matt Eber Flo did mention a couple of things during his presser today he did say that Matt prior can play Swing tackle he said they like prior on the inside or outside that's something I've talked about I haven't seen him get one single rep at left tackle but I expected him to compete with Larry borm For That Swing tackle role but prior's versatility is really important I think he's currently our sixth offensive lineman and he might even be ahead of Ryan Bates who's been out for a while polls also specifically mentioned Dominique Robinson is a guy he's been happy with at Edge rusher I have Dom Rob making my final 53 speaking of that my 53 man roster projection is pretty much finished I was going to have that out today but we made this trade in some roster moves so I pushed that back put a lot of work into my 53 man roster projection this year spent a ton of time watching film and our backups and our Fringe roster players one of the biggest things that I noticed about this roster this year is we have a lot more Talent overall than we have the last few years when you look at nearly every position the talent is upgraded I love what Ryan poles has been able to accomplish you guys pretty much just have to be excited for the future of this franchise things really are looking up for Bears fans also I expect both the players we traded for Daryl Taylor and Chris Williams to make the 53 man roster there will be a couple of surprise cuts and some more guys going to the injured reserve let me know your guys thoughts on everything two trades in 24 hours week one is also less than
