hello beaten by two goals to nil still no win for Tim Walter in his I think is that now five competitive games four championship games and of course the carabal cup game um and in truth this turned out to be a fairly routine victory for leads um in the end I mean what I would say is there were positives from a whole city point of view they start let's go back to the start um lead started on the front foot as you would imagine in front of a a soldout Allen row crowd they they they looked like they would tear City to Pieces City couldn't get out um you know they had ball between the goalkeeper and the Defenders but they couldn't get up the pitch and you kind of felt that it was a matter of time until um until Leeds would would eventually break the deadlock but to their credit City kind of um they stuck at it they didn't go under they didn't concede that first goal in that first 10 15 minutes when they were under the pump a bit uh and they recovered they got a foothold in the game and they created some good some really good moments and a bit like the game here on bank holiday Monday last season where you know City had had a fair bit of the ball and started to get the crowd really frustrated and it happened again here it doesn't take a huge amount for the lead's crowd to get NY um there was one particular moment on the far side over there where Lou Coyle um won the ball you know he Fair innocuous he won the ball really really well the referee played played on as he should have done as he was right to do and and Co spread it brilliantly out out to Li Miller on this side who then um cut in and and bent and angled we were right behind it and he angled the effort just over the angle of of M's um of mela's crossbar and the lead hands were Furious but that was a turning point in the in the half that it city were in the game they were right in it um Chris Chris Bader there was another one where um he went up for an aerial challenge wouldn't completely fair and square leads the leads fans didn't like it referee played on um and he for a really good save from Mia um but the cap the the Achilles heel again and I feel like I've been saying this now for for much of 2024 is that when they're on top they don't take the chances they didn't create a huge amount of clearcut chance chances but there were there were moments and there were moments in the game there were you know after a couple of good opportunities leads were giving the ball away a lot from the goalkeeper and and Ma won it he crossed to his his cross was over hit to the back post instead of being a bit more careful with that final ball um and you know you always thought if they could get in at halftime at nil nil they've got a chance that's exactly what they did they came out second half and Lead started the half well again as you would expect at home and probably with a bit of a bit of a a kick up the the you know what from from Daniel farker and and they had moments again in the at the start of the second half but didn't really test Evo pandor um and then and then Tim Walter made a change 59 minutes he made a change he took off ran slay to I thought was doing okay he wasn't setting the word like but Regan was doing okay in in the engine room there with zamb brano um he was doing okay and then he took he took Regan off he put will Jarvis on and then they scored almost within seconds they Solomon the new the new lad for leads got down the left on side Jarvis let him go past him too easily Coyle couldn't stop the cross there was two of them they couldn't stop the cross and then at the near post um Mata Joseph got across mcland who I thought had defended relatively well up to that point got across um ml CL and and knocked it in at the near post and suddenly lead it's gone from being firmly in the football match to leads out of nothing have got themselves in front and you have to say you never really felt like the city were going to get themselves back in the game they had again they had moments there were moments you know that a couple of crosses in the penalty area a couple of corners and and from fun enough from their Corner Le's got a second goal there was a corner came in there was a city won the first ball at the back post went it went up into the into the air into the area leads got it clear they they swept up the pit and the ball was played across to perau and he he slotted it in um beond pandle with little with relative ease to be quite honest and that's the quality they're bringing Off the Bench Joel perau and that was with nine minutes to go and the game was done and dusted um so that's their first defeat first League defeat um after three draws my my concern and I look I've said this before I have got concerns about Tim Walter and his management and the way he operates I'm not the jwelry I think for me is is firmly out I've not I've not seen enough yet to suggest that this is going to work I hope it does and it will need time I've not I'm not convinced um yet I'm not seeing enough enough within the game to to give me hope that they're going to they're going to start winning football matches what I'm I'm I'm hanging my hat on is that the signings they made they made four four signings on Deadline day in um Muhammad blumi and um Abu Kamar I'm hoping that you know come sheffeld United and beyond that when they have a bit more balance in their team they carry a greater threat but at the minute they just don't look a threat it's it's they look a team that can knock it around nicely yeah they can play Fancy football at times without any there there's no end product they've had two shots they've had two two shots on target here today that's I think I don't I if I'm right in thinking that they had nine shots of which two were on target I think that now takes their tally in in their four League games up to 48 which is a lot of shots but they've only hit the target with 13 13 of them and that is no that's not enough they've scored two goals one of which was a 90th minute penalty and the other was a a really well workor goal yes it was but it was a Terri it needed a a fantastic finish from Lou Coy which you're not going to get every single week they're not creating chances good chances they're not hitting the target nearly enough and yes this is at leads a team that were beaten in the playoff final last year but this isn't leads at the top of their game this is lead still finding their feet after a big turnover a lot of their what their top players like Somerville um have departed they're still finding their way um and what's annoying everybody kind of felt that this was just a write off today there will be teams coming here this season that win here and I felt that this was a game that that Citys are still in transition but shouldn't have just been written off just because its leads and um with a bit more care and a bit more final ball and a bit more quality they could have perhaps hurt leads in in particularly in that first half in the second half of the first half when they on top we saw as I said as I said the lam team that came here last season we you know they absolutely that first half City bossed it that that bank Easter Monday they absolutely boss this game um and lead the lead's people have not seen a team boss it like this for quite a while and but they didn't take the chances and that is ultimately what football's all about um so it's another defeat and um Tim Walter was was um I think the Diplomatic way of of saying it he was short and he was sharp in his postmatch interview didn't really say anything apart from the fact he was he was frustrated and he wants to win and he's not happy when they don't win um and he he you can tell he's feeling it because he doesn't take defeat well nor should he but he doesn't take defeat well he he hasn't won a game and um he hasn't won a game in preseason he didn't win a game in any of the preseason games they haven't won a game now in four championship games and a League Cup game against Chef W's reserves so that the pressure is starting to build and this next two weeks now for him is huge because he's got two well just under two weeks before Sheffield United at home a week on Friday night and he needs to get the new players that came in yesterday he needs to get them bedded in and he needs to have an attack a positive attacking performance that not only creates chances but score some goals because they don't look a team I'm I'm I'm just being honest I don't see that I watch that team and I don't see that team winning games I just don't see it hopefully my pess my pessimism if you like is is because I haven't seen a win yet and I've not seen them get anywhere near winning a football match that when they do win a match hopefully that kick starts some momentum that it gives the players confidence but I I I watch that team play and I don't see that team as a confident team comfortable in what they're being asked to do um and I think for me it's reflected it in what we're seeing we're seeing a team that still finding their feet of course they are um but I'm not convinced that this style of play has yet it just hasn't found a way to be effective yet and I think that is the acid test of of of the new manager going forward um but ultimately results are what dict results dictate a manager um success at whatever level and ultimately he's got to start winning some football matches he's got a very difficult one next up against Sheffield United this was a difficult one today he's had a fairly comfortable introduction to Championship life with respect Bristol City at home Plymouth away mil at home and sheffeld United Chef W's reserves in the cup their three stroke four relatively comfortable games at at this level this was a big test today and at times they looked okay did they ever look like scoring not really did they ever look like hurting leads not really you know leads kept them at arms length bar a couple of moments and when the opportunity came they took it and and they and then they finished the game off before you know to to avoid any potential problems in the final few minutes when the ball's being thrown forward they got that second goal and killed it off City are a long way from where they they are City are a long way from what where leads are of course they are um they are still work in progress um but I I personally want to see a bit more I I want to see more signs that this team this group of players can make this system effective and time will tell I keep coming back to the fact that In fairness to Walter he inherited a small group of players that weren't weren't good enough in terms of number or quality having had the amount of players that left at the end of last season and throughout the summer and players have you know 15 players have arrived 13 of them have come in August um so that is Talon and so he everything needs to calm down now and he needs to get on the training pitch and try and get those new players integrated and get them into a system that that that is effective it's all right running around a lot and it's all right making diagonal runs and swapping positions with players Here There and Everywhere but there's got to be a point to it there's got to be an end product there's got to be a shot on goal or a goal or there's got to be a moment and there aren't enough of those at the minute for all they it feels like they're putting an awful lot of effort in for almost zero reward and that is something that that that for me look Chris I get it I get it I've watch every single game um since he took over I've watched a fair bit of training for me I can't lie I can't sugar coach here I'm not going to sit here and go yeah everything is fantastic and I think it's I think he's the second coming and he's going to win the league I'm not I'm not going to I'm not I'm not going to do I can't do that I'm not convinced um the jury for me is out and he he he but what I think is is is irrelevant it's ultimately the people he's got to the people Tim Walter has got to convince first and foremost for his players if his players don't believe in his methods his management the way he operates his tactics then we're all wasting our he may as well get he may as well go and then bring somebody in so he's got to convince the players first and foremost that what he's doing is the right way forward then obviously he's got to in part convince the the ownership and the people that run the football club that you know this this difficult period that we're going through right now is worth it because in the in the long term his the results will will be born out you know once he gets you know gets into the season starts getting a running games with the players that he wants or the players that he he feels can can can um play a system then hopefully results will start to follow and then in turn obviously he also wants to get the supporters on side because ultimately whole city supporters have seen about three four wins in 2024 which is rubbish and I know that's got I know what's gone before has got nothing to do with him and that that isn't fair to to hit with that stick and go well actually mate you know four games about a win and these fans haven't seen a win since whenever you know centry away in April was the last win for the record um that's not he can't off that's nothing to do with it but fans have only got so much energy and so much you know when they keep coming they keep tearing up and seeing their team beating at home or not win at home they come away and they see the team beating away they've only got so much so he needs you know he needs to get a victory and Alfie Jones is said to me there that he feels the international breaks come at the right time that um it gives them a chance now to take stop to to get the new players integrated to Spen and Tom on the training ground but there's only a block of what four or five fixtures after when we when we come back in what just under two weeks there's only a block of four or five fixtures before the next break so he's got to he's got to get some results and I think I would personally next against sheffeld United I would I would like to see Charlie Hugh start I think he's I think he needs to come into the team um I think Kamar or or um blumi the one of those Wingers has to come in on the right hand side because like again today everything went down through leam Miller um there was nothing nothing on the other side zero on the other side um and so Le so Liam Miller needs support um so perhaps Kamar or um blumi can come in I would start with Bia I thought Bia did did okay today he looked he he was he was a nuisance I think is the word I would use he was a nuisance he was powerful he won his ch he wants stff in the air um but you've got to get players up to him you've got to um Jordan in terms of heart attack I don't think it's I don't think it's hindered him I don't think he I don't I've gotta be honest I don't think he cares I don't think I don't think he doesn't strike me as the kind of manager that really cares too much what people outside of his Circle think or he's so wedded to his style he's so I say arrogant maybe arrogant's the right word but he is determined that that is his style and he's not going to deviate from that uh um and what other people claim heart attack this that and the other is is is is is um I don't think he yeah I don't think it really really has any impact on him um yeah I think they they had at times of today they had a little more control than we've seen particularly at Plymouth that first half was Carnage there was no control they had a bit more today I thought Zan brano looked okay you can tell he's still feeling his way into English football which is perfectly understanding and he's also got the threat of this potential doping band hanging over his head as well so that must be um must be quite difficult for him but I thought he looked he looked okay A bit panicky in possession perhaps needs to calm it down a bit um but again that will come with um that will come with time um so yeah look probably few expected them to get a result here today they haven't got a result the there ra facets of this performance that that or go well there are other facets that I'm leave me with more questions than answers um questions on the transfer window um just one minute uh where was it gone sorry I can't see Matthew um Matthew about the striker um yeah look they they wanted to bring in a third Striker Adin made that perfectly clear at the fans Q&A he said if if Osan was to go he would bring in a third Striker we did an interview with him um last week last Friday he made it clear again that he wanted to he wanted to bring in a striker t T they spoken throughout the summer ultimately the players they've gone for they've just not been able to get over the line earlier in the summer it was Keith from Moore he's went to shff united we saw Brandon Thomas Asante go to Covent though probably Casey Palmer are like for like in that respect um they went for um Tom Canon he went to Leicester there were other Strikers they tried to sign F from Chelsea on you know um yesterday they were they were going for for good quality Strikers they could have signed any Striker you know but is he better than what they've got they were trying to sign a striker that that was better than what they've got they've not been able to do it and that will be a source of real frustration for for the manager for the owner and for for everybody at the football club that we're trying to get somebody over the light I think I'm not quite I don't yet know what to make of the recruitment as a whole I think there's been some really good signings um the window that it's been a bit hectic this last well in August because obviously it got off to a really slow start um and there there's probably only number of reasons for that but they they they've done what they've done I think as I said before I think Charlie Hughes is a terrific signing I think rushworth is a fantastic Sig in this level I would I would start him against sheffeld United and I don't want that's no criticism of Eva pandor because actually I think Evo has done really really well as this as as the games have have worn on I think he's grown into it he's got more confident we shouldn't forget that Evo hadn't played a single championship game before the first game of the season it was brought in last January the previous manager and and and coaching staff felt that he wasn't um he wasn't ready to be involved as a starter so wasn't but I think he's grown into it ROP is clearly a very good goalkeeper he's play you know you know idiots don't play champ Champions League football so he's clearly have got a has got a big pedigree um and he one he belongs to the football club but rushworth is so is so good he so well versed at Championship level and knows what it it takes to play in a team that want to dominate the ball and play quickly um Charlie Hughes as I say he's a brilliant sign I like Miller I think Kamar is fantastic the Zambrano Pua interesting I can't say that and you know we we don't know how they're going to react burow's got potential um Bia looked bright for me that they are a striker light they are um and and a good Striker and ultimately whoever's fault it is or whoever is going to get the carry the camp for not getting a deal over the line ultimately they've not been able to do it and that is how act F that is going to be only time will'll tell only between now and January will we know how damaging or not not signing a third Striker is hopefully in an Ideal World when they you know when things calm down and Walter's got his settled side he's got Miller on the left he's got Kamar on the right he's got abdin the number 10 who needs to up his game and he's got bet through the middle hopefully that that attacking unit that four have got enough about them to to create and score the goals that this team need and they're not going to be completely riing on a an imaginary 20 25 goal of season Striker that they haven't got and there's no guarantee that Tom Cannon going to sto suddenly is going to bludge in 25 goals that that is you know that is who knows um what it is it's up to the the players they've signed to go and you know to go and score goals to go and create goals and make things happen Kamar can play as an example Kamar Abu Kamar can play further forward um so they have got options and um look we're going to have to wait and see and in terms of judging the window um there haven't been the the the the high level signings that we saw in January but then the In fairness the bar was incredibly High wasn't it you know you're not going to sign another Fabio carv Valia that's just not going to happen um Liam deapen and and Jaden philine perhaps they were so high level that whatever happened this window was some would feel it it was a t underwhelming so um I think I think there have been some really good signings one or two leave a question mark As with a lot of you know a lot of clubs will have the similar questions only time we tell and it's not me sitting on the fence that's just it's impossible to say Kamar was terrific and I'm I've been an advocate for him for quite a long time he was terrific for Portsmouth last season but this is a this is a big step up so we need to see how he steps up and can he step up to and be effective at this level I I feel he can but until he gets out there and shows it we don't none of us none of us know um it's a gamble so I think I I just hope they don't come to Rude not going out and and committing and getting a striker it was the same in January they didn't replace dap they tried they they tried to to get through with Ohio and sharp you know and and now um a really I don't say old Striker because that's disrespectful to Shar but somebody in Ohio is relatively unproven they didn't get that that Center forward that we we we we know and fact they needed they haven't been able to do it this summer although they have signed burto and and and Bia so we'll have to wait and see and that is the I guess that is the the Crux of of that um question about um sorry Ash uh Ash on on the style um no I don't think he'll change in the same way in in the same way Liam reor these these man these managers Liam Tim Walter whoever whoever they are are so wedded to their principles that you know they're not going to change just because they've not won a football match they're not they just aren't going to change I can't remember who there was an interview on on the Telly I saw a couple weeks ago with the manager and the the reporter on the Telly asked well you've not won a game and you're going to change you Starling he was like well no CU I believe in what my principles are and so that and Walter is exactly the same with that he's not going to change um he will keep doing that and he will keep hammering it hammering it um other questions sorry I don't know who the I didn't see who the question came in from um Steve how long will I give the manager look it feels really premature I've got my I've got my doubts uh of course but I think it's premature to start for those questions because we're still in August by day uh he's had he's had four games and he inherited a squad that was nowhere near the level and they've signed a shedload of players that are going to take time to to get out on the pitch and and get into that system so you know I I think it's I think it's really premature to start saying well we need to get let's give Walter 10 games and if he's not won two games what what's the what's the metric we're basing it against you know I think Liam finished seventh Hall City not going to finish seventh they're not going to finish that they are so far away from being a team capable of challenging the playoffs at this stage that any any suggestion of them challenging for the top six is for me is is is pointless at this stage so for me it's about stabilizing giving and getting to grips with what they're trying to do and then what and then letting let's take it from there at this stage talk of I don't think yeah I think to change the manager at this stage would would be um particularly given the amount of investment that he's been given the amount of effort the ownership put in trying to get him um yeah I'm not sure about that one just now um but thank you for the question Steve [Music] um yeah Andrew about abush no he didn't play the number 10 because he's happened to play out wide but the theory is that when they now they've got Wingers that will allow abush to go and play in the number 10 where they will get the best out of him um Matthew yeah he had the surprise I think and I don't want to put words in his mouth but I believe the surprise was the goalkeeper rushworth um look they they tried to get they tried to get a striker I'm I'm sure at some point adun will will will talk about what happened and and and explain why that wasn't possible um I know it wasn't the want to try in um so that's where we're at with that one Ian do you think adun is right in the season off for promotion and targeting next um I don't think I'm not sure um I'm not sure in the championship we can ever write it off and just go ah we we'll forget this year because if you do that you risk getting relegated so um and equally you never know what can happen you know if they can if they can get competitive quickly if they can start winning some games and they can be you know know towards the top the top of the the second page of the table as we as you would say like you know 12th 13th in that area at the turn of the year not too far off you never know but a lot has got to happen um Glenn let's hope that the sigings turn the tie that you know the two Wingers will make a difference get them in the team that gives more balance to the team it gets potentially gets the better out gets more out of abdes because we get nothing from him at the minute or very little from him um and and hopefully an attacking threat because that is the that is the Crux of this at the minute there is just no attacking threat or very little attacking threat um so hopefully the new signings and maybe Palmer can come into the team and you know he's he's a willing Runner he's direct he takes people on hopefully he can have a positive impact um plenty of questions coming in um yeah so Jamie on we look like a league one side I think that's a bit harsh um I think that's a bit harsh I think the players are trying really hard I just think they're this is a a big this is a big ass to play this style of football and try and play it at this level it's it's and it is going to take time and ultimately there's no there's not a lot of patience in football is there and if if he loses his next three or four games then then questions will be asked because that's the nature of the beast that's what we're dealing with and if if it gets to October International break and they still haven't won a football match and they've lost now they they lose three of the next four people will ask questions and not none more so that ownership because they won't want to see a team that they've invested in um losing a lot of games and and sinking down to the bottom of the table when they were seventh last year so look I don't think it's the time for kneejerk reactions necessarily I think it's the time for for Walter to um to get back out on the training pitch to get those to get those players playing that you know maybe perhaps making it a little bit easier maybe not over complicating it maybe things are over complicated um we'll have to wait and see um I'm getting a nod from here road that they would like to close the the stadium apart from obviously the grounds downstairs um so um that's it from here at alen Road Great support by the way today from the fans that were here too just under 3,000 sold out not a great result but um that we could hear them down the far end so credit if you were here today um look there be I'm now off um for a few days um scars of the transfer season there'll be plenty of stuff coming up over the next week so as always keep in touch um at the 1904 Club on Twitter if you want to get your comments in for the next podcast um and that's it from here Ellen R thanks for watching thanks for your questions comments take take it steady and we'll see you again soon
