first appearance of the 2023 2024 class 3A division one state champion Malikov Tigers Oo we it's about to be on like doggy Kong let's go baby you know it it seems like every year that the gap between playoffs and season opener just keeps getting shorter and shorter I think we found the shortest it could get with that State Championship win of 16 wins in a row there you go and I'm man I'm flabbergasted about that man 16 in a row no losses baby come on now so little fun facts about you know West Rusk we faced them for the past three years as season openers or close to season openers right uh Mal being malakov they didn't lose a single one of those games West Rus do not do not push them out of the way though they are still a very very Savvy team led by Jud doson at quarterback who is a very very pois in the pocket but not afraid to run quarterback okay uh West Rusk lost the opener to malov last year here at home with a score of 56 to 14 which actually tied the fourth most points put up on malakov all last season uh obviously the the no-brainer of who put the most up on Malikov was Brock that nasty Brock Eagles team at the state semifinals how how can you forget or not talk about last season without that one game that seemed to be the winner of the state championship in that game right there and everybody knew it I still have nightmares about that it it was a dog fight for sure in that game uh malov pulled out the win 38-31 off a spectacular fashion of it uh it was a interception by Daniel nurel returned for 40 plus yards and then punched in by the Mike Jones Le tiger offense that went absolutely nuclear last year little little season fact for West Russ before we dive into the mighty mighty Tigers yes sir West Russ finished the season last year 10-3 in the 10 and3 season before that in 2021 they had a 12- season last year's playoffs in the regional semi-finals were ended by Dangerfield for West Rusk a very solid Dangerfield team last year along with W West Rusk obviously being very Saucy theirself uh just just a reminder folks this is definitely not going to be a team that you can just Overlook they're going to come out with a purpose an intent to hit the Tigers in the mouth firing off all gears for sure when you're facing the state champs you have to be a well-oiled machine you have to take advantage to everything given to you penalties just mental mistakes anything that could happen you have to take advantage of and capitalize on I'm like you uh with every team that Malikov is going to face this year they're going to all bring their aame you know it's a a notch in your belt if you can beat the state champion you know defending state champion so hey it's going to be on it's going to be a good game baby 16 and no state champions you can't talk about this run here without talking about the records here right Malikov has only had two 16- win Seasons or 16 win unbeaten streaks uh one of them coming in 46 which was actually the last six games of those which continued into the first 10 of the 47 season Way Way Back in 97 I don't think were you kids back then you and my dad we went not 97 we not in 47 oh you 47 47 oh yeah we would even both okay I just had to make sure y'all getting up there in age yeah uh and then obviously another 16-0 season in 2023 we've had a 114 win season uh 2016 and then 12 straight in 2022 which we all remember in a heartbreaking loss to Brock for sure little bit of the rankings this year we'll go through some of the 3A D1 rankings here obviously Malikov number one who Malikov number one Malikov number one you know they have been eyeing that spot it seems and it's like they never it to us they fin put theirs down and scratched at it and got into that number two would be Columbus three would be our opponents in the state championship Franklin yeah Hitchcock at four Edna at five Bushland at six Paradise at seven Bad Blood rival which really good people you know Grand View at number eight golad at nine and Sweetwater at 10 sweet that is your 3A D1 Top 10 rankings to start the season awesome awesome uh a key departure from 3 a D1 is Brock Brock moved up to 4 a D2 what you think about that I think I'm really impressed that they're still ranked number six in the state out of 4 a D2 from the jump from 3 to 4A you know it doesn't shock me you know we watched them play numerous times against Malikov and yes sir they always gave us fits and we did the same to them yes sir so a little bit of a breakdown here on the schedule I guess we'll go into the schedule for this season let's go for it so tonight we faced West Rusk here at home they finished the season at 10 at three last year next week we will be traveling to Lorena all these kickoffs for preseason will be at 7:30 so Lorena in Lorena 11 and three last season solid team right there then you go here back home against mad Ville who finished 9 and3 last season you know solid record still Grand View would be the final game of pre-season before District play who finished 11-2 which second round we yeah got poed off you know District play starts those games will be at 7:00 Commerce will be the first game here at home at seven uh they were 7 and four to end the season going to many ol of the following week right who ended their season four and six come back home to eustus so no light shows Marcus no light shows no light shows we didn't get to see one anyways the half time so they finished zero and 10 oh my then we're traveling over past Canton near lake Fort to emry Reigns who finished their season one and N followed by two really deep slated teams here uh keep keep with me here Mount Vernon Mount Vernon who finished 8 and4 last season which we know Mount Vernon is a very solid team Vernon has always put up a really good fight against malakov and I think that's exactly what what we need at the end of the season we got two tough ones at the beginning with Lorena and Madisonville and then I'll go to the final game I know this one's going to be fun that's going to be winsboro who is 13- one to end their season last year oh man right by the CH to ch ch folks if if you didn't pay attention last year the windsboro Malikov game yes was it was something spectacular uh we won't say what the fans were saying but it got pretty heated yeah uh I wouldn't say bad blood but it definitely isn't good no no it's definitely not good I can tell you that as we are going sorry about that we got some we got some technical difficulties here yeah yeah yeah people trying to call let me cut this phone down cut this phone off one 20 minutes to kickoff here we're going to dive just quickly and go to commercial break before kickoff here uh the mighty Tigers defense now we talked about it all last year how good the defense was uh how good the offense was yes sir and you know just to go into the number side of things for all y'all people who love y'all's math the Tigers only allowed a total of 159 points in all six games leading up to the state championship in the season opener they outscored their opponents 791 to 159 wow and just for another breakdown of the numbers that's 49.4 points a game and only allowing 9.9 or call it 10 points a game scored on them throughout the whole 16 games to the state championship that is in insane and than I mean right that's insane baby speaking of the defense Jo I almost called you Joel you like that must be your daddy walking through Walmart and I was told I was his twin by some random stranger I think I think you are we got a defense you got we brought back Parker potit and James Studley two linebackers that are studs Parker potit most definitely the defensive captain for this Malikov Squad this year you know with the departure of your favorite dickity Diggity do doc he's out here out of there graduated going to better things at some say yes sir and uh Parker potit you know he got the defensive player of the game in the state championship yes he did yes sir what a remarkable performance in that game by him that was that was some of the best ball he had ever played that season you know he played great all season though you know not not taking away from any other games I think you you can't say that any team did bad last season you know first team second team third team special teams oh yeah they were all good and let's don't forget about that defensive line you got Michael Elliott returning and you got Danielle no no he's a bad boy with them two together they got PL tackles and they had a number of number of tacos for a loss you know what I'm saying all through the season Nell went a little viral in that Brock game if if you were look back into that fourth quarter I believe he had a a big man Rumble we call it a Rumble in the Jungle he he made it on down that field and it's like pandemonium went crazy but I tell you what I think he wanted to make that touchdown oh he was definitely going when you see a big man run everybody wants a touchdown yeah he want make touch everybody wants to see him get in that end zone because it's just such a beautiful thing to see a lineman score a touchdown I think your daddy Joy he said he he that was his dream to just to pick up a fumble and run it all the way back he he did he wanted to run one back I don't think he's going to run one back nowadays I'm not going to run at all I used to break dramatically bigger since last year and I know y'all will probably see it when he steps on the field tonight and he's on camera cuz you're going to be seeing a lot of him tonight he's bigger he's faster he's stronger and he's going to be a problem look like he a little taller too yes the boy he's grown probably a good 3 to four Ines he been drinking some good Similac but bones didn't got strong yes sir man oh man they said milk make your bone grow and all that healthy don't they yes sir yes yes they do Marcus oh my they absolutely do and speaking of the offense you got Jerry and Hall he total 210 he got 210 points and the season last year and finished up top 20 in Texas you know I was watching film from last season's West rusco opener and there was a part in there what I said we don't know much about Jerry and Hall but from what I saw in warm-ups he has speed and if he gets past the second level he's gone you might as well call the house cuz it's going to be a house call oh the ball bad he he had 34 touchdowns last year and uh combined for uh 1,692 total yards wow so hey he doing something that was as a sophomore there there was one game last season I can't remember exactly what it was I forgot to write it down I know I'm in trouble for that one wor he had 167 yards and three touchdowns off of seven carries oh way it it just goes to show you that this running back core with you know I've been excited to see it all off season the return of the bird I'm going to say you but you took the word out of my mouth I'm going go and give you that hit there it is time for the bird man to come back baby the mythical bird sound we missed all last season due to an ACL ter we are so happy he is back I know his mom and dad were tickled to death when he scored a touchdown this in the scrimmages you know and I think everyone kind of teared up a little bit oh you know you and I'm I'm ready to do my bird call cuz I've been waiting for it to do it but let's not forget last by lead Mike Jones Mike Jones Jones the one and only you can't clone him you know what I'm saying that's he's the quarterback this year he had 200 Mike John he had 2,621 passing yards oh man then he you know 31 touchdowns and you know he also had uh 14 touchdowns on the ground that mean he used those Happy Feet when I'm in there he a bad boy he uh he is he just like Evan ler just when you thought it couldn't get any better he looks like he just didn't miss a beat and got even better from the state championship game he looks like he's faster he's more Mobile in the pocket when it collapses but at the same time he's also gained more of a Poise to him while standing in the pocket Under Pressure to where he has the ability to just flick the wrist out of the throw and make accurate passes yes sir look at them F lit yeah and and let that's that's don't forget about the offensive line who you know help him do that him and the running backs also you got sea Mets return medows returning you got Hunter Reeves you got Jamar and Walker oh man you know it's a bunch of people that's returning and you know it's going to be a man Malikov TI going to be hard to stop once again if you thought they looked dangerous at the beginning of the season last year and you haven't got to see them play this year yet folks they're still dangerous they still they are still a threat to go back to back at the state championship and there is no doubt about that because I went to the Brownsboro scrimmage uhuh in the first five plays they had two touchdowns and probably a total of 160 plus yards out of five plays on offensive snaps alone that's not including the time scrimmage part wow that's just good coaching by you the head coach Jamie Driscoll this is 16 season and he's you know he's 158 and 35 he has a 158 and 35 record that is amazing stuff right there Jamie Driscoll I call him Jamie Drisco the pistol W He's the bad man you know the sweet 16 season in the 15 he got the state championship the sweet 16 is supposed to be better so yeah maybe a little foresight into the future for another ring and a another big replica trophy over there when you first walk in you know can't talk about that you know it's only bigger in Texas and who you telling we got the biggest state champion trophy in all of Texas I like the run into it coming in bad boy and speaking like you
