25 years teaching students at Ridgewood Prep is closing its doors after class tomorrow. Meg Farris is at the school in Metairie, and she's joining us live tonight to explain what happened. Meg. And Katie, families of those Ridgewood students are scrambling right now to get their children enrolled in another school for Thursday morning. Now, all day long, they streamed here in and out of the school in Metairie, getting transcripts and records. Families of Ridgewood Prep students were surprised to hear its closing. Disappointed that down the school had a special niche for the children that may learn differently or be different that I don't see in other schools. This gave to the children that needed it, the things they needed. This senior will need to finish her year at a coal classique. It's heartbreaking. I've built great friendships and a bond with people and it's sad. Sucks because one, I did a full deposit and I wish I had that money still. But it's gonna like impact my education really badly and poorly. This freshman says he's been told he won't get this semester's tuition back for his transfer to Bonnibel. The Ridgewood administration says enrollment is falling in the fall, 145 students. Only 114 came back after holiday break. The nonprofit school is out of money to pay its more than two dozen teachers. The 89 year old had master is in deteriorating health and can't get a personal loan. Keo France in Metairie is getting dozens of inquiries. It started yesterday getting emails and phone calls from parents who aren't in a panic. Obviously we are offering to help as many families as we can. Ridgewood made tuition and class arrangements at another Metairie school, a coal class seek. It says it can take all of the students. Before Katrina, the school had more than 600 students, now has 210. You've seen a lot of change in education. Home School students, charter schools. Things have changed, but our enrollment has been pretty much consistent since that time period is when gayness closed down and we took in. This is not the first time a coal absorbed students over the years from Mercy, Sam Barth, Stuart Prep and gayness. There are plans for transferring seniors to still graduate from Ridgewood, and Nicole hopes to be able to hire some of the teachers we want to make that transition as easy as possible for them. Take a little bit of what was at Ridgewood. And make it a part of a coal. It's gonna be a change, but we can help them get used to it. Now I'm told by administrators when they made the announcement, there were lots of tears. I just a half one hour ago saw a man from the class of 92 come and have his little daughter take a picture of him in front of the school. He said he's going hunting with a bunch of his classmates. They made lifelong friends. And when we were here earlier, two students who had graduated 2 years ago just came to the school today to tell a teacher that he had changed their lives and to say thank you.
