NCAA 2024 Week 01: Ohio @ Syracuse

[Music] welcome to Upstate New York Syracuse University and Under the Dome today we have a terrific clash and storm we've got a sensational matchup for you fans have been filing in and getting ready for this game as we'll see a squad from the back the Ohio Vats taking on a team from the ACC the Syracuse or for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one [Music] up Syracuse will kick off and we'll be underway and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 so Ohio's offense will get the first swing of the game and not only is this guy the energy and the engine of the offense there's a certain Carisma that he has that sort of elevates everyone around him he's got a Moxy about him ree it just seems like when he's in the Huddle he's got 10 other sets of eyeballs looking at him and believing in him to lead this offense down the field towards scoring points this guy is a leader in every sense of the word didn't get much on first down it's second and [Applause] nine looking downfield it's Navaro makes the catch along the sidelines and steps out of bounds I really like the slot receiver and I understand he's not the biggest guy in the world but he just runs really good routes and he's always under control he can run option routs he can run double moves he does a great job cutting and he's dangerous after the catch nice weapon to have work in the middle of the field Ball's at the 27 this offense facing a third and long oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down this is a point where you just got to be able to focus the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you got to be able to make that play the Bobcats will bring the punt team onto the field getting our first look of the afternoon at the punter he only needs a sliver of daylight coverage team gets the job done and they'll Mark him down at the 38 yd line so the Syracuse Orange will go on offense for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody C After Burner coming and they were looking for a chunk play and they got it the explosive picks up more than 30 well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how is this defense going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and Jesse now their head's spinning just a little but give up a big chunk play and it's right back at [Applause] him he'll keep it himself and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four this offense is really going to try to keep the defense on their heels in the Run game by doing it with different guys it'll be running backs it'll be quarterbacks they may even try to get receivers involved in the Jet Sweep game reverse game as well but a nice play there Syracuse right back at it he'll put the tight end in motion the running back has it he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down Mark Syracuse comes to the line on first and goal quarterback keeps it they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one the whole point of running the quarterback on these designed runs is to get an extra blocker you should be getting more movement up front but that time guys were getting knocked backwards and as a result they actually lost a can the D deny them on second and goal wide out in motion quick touch pass to the receiver and they will score touchdown Orange [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead the extra point and he's got the extra point and it's 7 nothing to start this one a very efficient five playay scoring drive and it was finished off with a 2yd touchdown TOS the kickoff unit about to go to work on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Ohio takes over the Bobcat offense heads to the field on the run it's hunt they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you see all this movement in ball now all the stin in the defensive line they're sliding right before the snap creating confusion for the offensive line then they're moving back and stunting really good job by the defense continue to move continue to stunt continue to get in the back field and make this life hard on this running back looking to pass it's Navaro fires one high and deep and it's incomplete going for the massive explosive play instead they're looking at a third down DB doesn't outstand job here on the Deep pass locating the football no Pi able to swat it away pass incomplete not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 he's not afraid to go deep and they can't hook up on the big play and that brings up a fourth down every defense in the country talks about getting offenses in predictable third and long situation where I can bring on more speedsters and I know the pass is coming so I can have more success and the Bobcats will send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away running it back it's Allen and they'll haul down the returner to start us on the next Drive the orange have the ball back and ready to go to work that last Drive really productive David wound up with a touchdown they'll try to do it again yeah so I don't expect this offense to change too much Reese they had a great Drive they got the touchdown everything working I would expect them to keep pushing this ball downhill and just imagine if they could put another touchdown on the board right here they could capture so much momentum in this game with back-to-back TDS Syracuse right back at it from the gun they'll try to impose their running game and he has a solid game before the defense bottles him up I think that was an example of the offensive coordinator trying to help out his quarterback he's trying to keep these third Downs management you know you throw the ball on second down and it's incomplete now you've set up third and long and now you're set up to fail we'll see if they go back to the run here on third [Applause] down he'll pull it on the read can't get him to the ground he's got enough to give Syracuse the first down it must have been a brutal week for this defense preparing for this game because of all the different ways they can attack you and because of how athletic this quarterback is and how he can hurt you running the football he just showed it to you right there Syracuse ready to go to work with another first down been showing them the run now they'll throw it and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on Hey listen the quarterback didn't get the completion on that throw but that doesn't mean you can't try again trust in your Playmakers outside to push the field and stretch it vertically and make a play for you it won't surprise me to see this QB take more shots as this game goes on got his man to the left good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch and that play just shows you this quarterback trusts his wide receiver because he knows that route has to be adjusted to get beyond the first down marker these two right now really on the same page Syracuse has a really nice drive going looking for space it's Allen able to scr three yds out of that one somehow it's second and seven Syracuse has it in the Red Zone looking for a physical attack from the gun nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry you know if you want to run the ball at the middle you're going to have to block that guy I mean nobody even touched him and he slanted right into the back field made the tackle for loss let's see what they've dialed up on Third and long from the 22 to the air it's MC and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf and third and long everybody is pinning their ears back and coming after the quarterback you try to throw screens behind those sometimes they're very successful but this time defense played it great and the play went nowhere they've decided to try to go for the field goal here visualizing the right ball flight from 39 yds out in the right hatch he got it and that will extend their lead even further [Music] so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three- spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down he'll bring it back from inside his SP not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Ohio U offense returns to the field that last Drive fizzled out Jesse they had pun it yeah they did and David they're just going to have to do a better job this time around erasing the mental mistakes and just trying to solve the defensive riddle understanding what they're trying to do to you and attack them halfway there on first down it's second and five quarterback on the keeper they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and it's difficult to contain athletic quarterbacks but man when everybody plays their assignment it's a beautiful thing I understand I got to take away this I got to keep my eyes on the quarterback make sure he doesn't pull that football they weren't fooled and the quarterback had nowhere to go probably the toughest call on the play sheet third and long Ball's at the 25 throws to the back and this is going to be incomplete on third down the Bobcats will line up to pun it [Applause] away he will signal for the fair Catch and take it just inside the 35 this drive will get underway from just inside the 35 at their own 34 and the defense gets to the [Applause] quarterback guys we're at the end of the quarter and Syracuse has the lead really strong performance so far to be able to build a lead here in the first period as we look at the stats now to see if they can answer this early Blitz here in the second quarter now the offense has to overcome the negative play after the defense comes up with a sack quick completion to the right I love the anticipation on that throw by the QB on the out route you got to throw it before the receiver comes out of his break nice work Syracuse right back at [Applause] it he'll do it himself they convert on third down as he gets it to the 46 yd line oo I like that option play I'd keep running that too because it's obvious the defense right now is really keying in on this running back that was a big point of emphasis for them all week long in practice and it's opening up holes now for the quarterback to run Syracuse ready to go to work with another first [Applause] down he'll keep it himself you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six you know as a quarterback when you're doing this own read play you got to read that defensive end if he crashes down hard inside to take the running back away right away you know now you're keeping the football nice job by the quarterback kept it on the ground last time let's see if they go back to it on second [Applause] down he'll pull it on the read a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior well the QB decided to keep it on that one and listen it's if you had his athleticism you'd want to keep it too almost every time they run these types of option plays but he's just going to have to do a good job of understanding when to hand it off when to pitch it and try to keep this defense on their heels and read his keys he's got a lot of talent just got to make sure he's making the right decisions moving forward fires left he's got it that'll be enough for the first down as they mark it down at the 31 yd line I was starting to think about what they would do if they didn't pick up the first down here but I guess that's a moot point now moot point for sure and the head coach was probably telling him four down territory we're going to kick a field goal whatever the next decision was going to be and now the OC is like don't worry about it new set of downs nice execution by this offense back to pass it's McCord and he fires over the middle it's incomplete that's a ball that this offense should be able to complete they had the coverage they wanted receiver ran on the route just an inaccurate throw by the quarterback and now on second down for this offense takes a hand off it's Allen defense there to make the stop after a pickup of two to the 30 linebackers trying to create some confusion they're a perfect two for two on third down on this drive they need eight to move the chains again fires to the middle got his man and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep them from getting the first down it's all about critical downs and distances on defense you want to be great unit defensively you've got to be good on third down and in the red zone for this defense giving up a third down like that that is just a gut [Applause] they've marched to the Red Zone and here they go got it in the middle it's gadon they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker hey that's a great job executing the drag route you just bring the big fella across the formation wait for him to come open the quarterback does a good job seeing him finds him in the hole hits him perfect job operating in the Red Zone here on second down the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D hand off to the single back he pushes his way down to the floor as they get closer and closer I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs he pushes it forward all the way to the 2 yd line now it's second and goal just going to keep it after the snap and he's able to shed one tackle but still just a very short gain as a defensive guy now you're always zoomed in on the quarterback I mean these guys they're whether they're throwing the football or running it at least they have the football in their hands every time you know where they're going to be you focus in the defense locked and loaded understand what they were trying to accomplish doing a good job getting to the quarterback and then make those and he takes it to the house touchdown Syracuse and I love the physicality of this offense it's third and goal it's money time I've got to be more physical than you and that's exactly what this offense just did put the ball on the ground and put it in the end zone [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead that is what they mean when they say ball control a 14pl touchdown drive and it was closed out by the short yardage touchdown air lining up to Boot It Away here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Ohio you ready to go back to work on offense they've gotten nothing done so far and they already find themselves in a three possession hole Jesse yeah and as a head coach you're wondering what didn't I say what didn't I do to get my team ready to go because we look like we're sleepwalking at this point David yeah nothing went well in the first quarter you just say refresh like let's try to find a way now chip into this lead try to make it somewhat manageable when you get to the half goes to the option and not even a chance to pitch it as he is slammed down in the back field they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air that is just a sideline credit throw catch tow drag everything you want man this offense they needed that one in the worst way right they're getting blown out in this game so far and as we get close to halftime they've got to be able to put a good drive together they've got to be able to come away with a touchdown here close the gap a little bit going into the second half they go to the ground he tried to find some Running Room but they get him stopped stopping the run is very high on every defensive coordinator's list making the team onedimensional nice job stuffing the run on that play right there we've made our way to the two-minute warning and now they'll try to at least cut a little something off of this lead before the break got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 to throw it's Navaro makes the grab down the middle and he's able to shed one tackle and pick up pretty good yardage and I think you're seeing these guys in every offense now these little guys that they're so quick it's hard to get a hand on them run Chris brouts you can throw it short you can throw it long but they're just big time Playmakers we' definitely seen an emphasis shift towards smaller wide receivers with some serious SK they turn to the passing game on Third and short getting some heat and he can't escape and down he goes referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming and the Bobcats will punt this one away fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt no return coming he'll call for the fair catch a first down for the offense he wants to throw catch in the middle it's Haynes that defense got gashed but they finally get him to the turf at the 47 great job by the offense listen if the defense is going to sit back in zone you know what you got to do run those crossers across the formation those guys that they're looking at the quarterback they're not trying to pick up receivers all the time time make those precise throws right in those holes get those first downs get those big chunks from the 47 yd line on First and 10 looking to move it through the air grabbed in the middle it's Ross Simmons great job creating space that's what you're supposed to do when you get man covered you got to find a way to get a step make it easy for your quarterback to read that leverage and when he drags across the field he can see had him he completes it for the first down that last completion has him set up second and short to the air it's mcord he's got his man and how about that catch and run so dangerous this guy this offense is clicking everything working together really well coordinator quarterback offensive line good Rhythm good flow defense is going to have to find something to kind of mess up this timing they got going on Syracuse ready to go to work with another first [Applause] down that's reeled in it's Hayes and he goes down after making the grab picked up a few but he's still short of the first down marker and I love working the slot receivers and you see so much of that it's about matchups right I can put a fast guy in that slot maybe get him matched up on a linebacker or a safe I like working those guys in those matchups favorable for the offense for sure he's got it on the move they get him stopped at the two but it'll be first and goal man this quarterback is on fire this drive they've run five plays offensively he's thrown it all five times he's five for five and now he has him down here on the goal line why not go six for six with a tutty this will likely be the last play of the half trying to bully their way in touchdown Q and they take it in for six more points and the running back gets a second rushing touchdown of the game you want to continue to feed this guy you can tell he's got a nose for the End Zone knows how to get in there knows how to make things happen [Music] [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead exra point and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further so that scoring Drive took only six plays and finished the deal with the short touchdown run from the two just about set to kick it away from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets they make the Stop and that is the end of the first half that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with a halftime update fellas a typical First Rate broadcast so far today from Syracuse and we have to start this halftime breakdown by addressing the play of this Elite wide receiver this is clearly a young man who once he's finished playing on Saturdays he's going to be playing on Sundays the kid has different gears he has a knack for finding gaps in the defense and I can't remember a college player with that kind of catch radius and with that let's send it back to the guys inside the dome in lovely Central New York on the run from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Syracuse offense heads back onto the field this offense is really been clicking in the game so far Jesse no doubt everything their play caller is dialing up these guys offensively have been able to go out and execute them yeah and it's just maintaining the lead keep doing what you've been doing you got a big lead let's just keep piling it on until they find an answer now on second down from the shotgun hand off to the back knocked down after picking up five out to the 24 I know the passing game sells the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards of pop on the ground but it will be very successful a third down try for the offense dropping back it's McCord firing to the right complete and he's knock down immediately but not before he moves the chains this is exactly why third down is practiced every single day third and short third and medium third and long it's money down for a reason you got to lock in great success by the offense so far on third down they'll snap this one from the 30 on First and 10 making sure they have good balance keeping it on the ground just working and poking and prodding and finding his way up to the 36 I know it's exy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three from the gun the ground game showing off the arms he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play well the defense is on their heels right now they're going to have to find a way to stop this guy when he's got ahead of steam boy he is hard to bring down Syracuse has a really nice drive going he'll come out throwing on first down finds his big tight end they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down I don't think he was the primary receiver on that play David but a very productive pickup on first down and these tight ends are so good at under standing zones and where to sit down and listen it's not the huge game down the field but it's always Death By A Thousand Cuts small gains great tackles and continue to move the sticks drag down to the turf but not before getting the first down and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of downs Syracuse ready to go to work with another first down power football with the Run not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down got three on first down it's second and [Applause] seven using his legs it's Allen and he runs through one tackle and picks up a few this running back just doesn't go down easy it's just difficult for defenses to get him on the ground not overly huge but if I'm an offensive coordinator I'm going to continue to find ways to feature him and just you know what let his talent do the rest third down after the run looking to throw for it unloads to the wide out excellent coverage good use of the hands to knock it away really nice job by the defense playing aggressive understanding it could be a running situation but still playing disciplined enough to play the pass and be successful on that third and short and they'll send out the kicker to try a field goal and this kicker might be feeling it he made one earlier now from 49 yds out and this one splits the upright and they'll push that lead out a little further for the head coach decided to play it safe on fourth in inches and try his field goal team out there and his field goal kicker just made him look like a pretty smart [Music] [Music] guy they're really starting to extend that lead as they get ready to kick it away again he'll bring it back looking for help and they'll get him on the ground as the offense comes out to start the next Drive they'll start this drive from the 18 yd line they'll give it to the back didn't find a lot of room let's give him two out to the 20 I never know if it's grammatically correct to say a team is being out physical you hear it a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run it picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second [Applause] down the give on the inside and he's brought to the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down and listen the offensive line has to do their job but a really good job by the running back understanding where his hole is go hit it get the first down don't mess around nice job following his hole getting positive yards now on First and 10 from the 29 quarterback on the keeper got it up for the first down and wants more and he didn't squeeze it it's loose defense coming up with a huge fumble recovery they'll decline the penalty here in the result of the play STS here's this offense with a fresh set of downs they'll run it out of the shotgun able to scr three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven looking downfield it's McCord he's got an open man bust through behind his Pad he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down I know it's something we take for granted guys but the Q did a great job there with the playaction fake he really took his time and sold it and that's what froze the linebackers in the second level of the defense to help make that completion a whole lot easier after the pickup of nine it's second and one L you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive gain making your situation really good on the next down that kind of pick up on first down and you can take a shot here on second and [Applause] short gets it out fast and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down well they pick up the first against Zone coverage I think a big part of this for young quarter backs out there is if you're going to be throwing into Zone coverage you got to throw on time you can't stare down receivers because the entire defense has their eyes on you so you can't Telegraph where the ball's going you've got to hold it to the very last possible second try to freeze Defenders with your eyes and then throw the ball into open areas of the field anticipating where your guy's going to be going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone he's looking for a man on second down got it in the middle it's Haynes they get him down and that'll be the final play of the third period and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've seen one more quarter to go and it looks as if we are ready to play Syracuse comes to the line on first and goal he'll do it himself they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that [Applause] one after getting knocked back it's second and goal from the four touch pass on the Jet Sweep touch down orange and the punishment has been extended and this always is the debate of where you fall it's your job to stop me or I should get conserved CU this offense obviously has had themselves a day and apparently their day is not over they're going to continue to keep scoring and the defense better do something about it [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead so they moved the ball 43 yds on that drive and they CA the drive with a four yd touchdown pass the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away he'll start the return inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Ohio takes over the Bobcat offense heads to the field this one feels as if it's starting to get away from them a little bit Jesse yeah Reese there's a lot of teams in college football at this point that would just quit so David we're going to find out a lot about this team right here yeah just running out of opportunities you give opportunities away like this you're trailing every possession is going to be important from here on in let's see what they've got on second down after the incompletion back to the passing game he wants to take the top off makes the grab gets the foot down just Precision execution on that big play the offense has struggled they're not going to win this game but trust me this coaching staff is still trying to find things to build off of for next week and after an explosive play like that maybe they can generate just a little bit of momentum and gain a little bit of confidence that they can keep coaching up heading into their next game fires to the right tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pickup big plays in the passing game deep down the field that take time to develop the big hog mollies up front got to protect their qub back great job protecting him on that play the Bobcats come to the line with a new set of downs they'll run the toss they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you got to give this defense credit because they have bottled this guy up all game long he's one of the best running backs in allive college football everybody was expecting him to have a big one today don't tell that to this defense though they've played with great effort they've gotten hats to the football and they have been able to shut him down dropping back it's Navaro fires to the wide out just a bit of a misfire there as they can't make the connection well the defense came into this one knowing if they stop the pass they win the game and they have done that their guys have won one-on-one on Islands they've been able to get to the quarterback they've been mixing up their looks they haven't even allowed 100 yards passing in this one and that's why they are way ahead here in the fourth quarter on Third and long he's going to have to throw for [Applause] it looking down the middle another incompletion on third down and it's just been that kind of day for this quarterback in this offense guys they have never been able to get into a rhythm throwing the football timing's been off accuracy hasn't been great we've seen some drops just not in syn that's why they find themselves trailing by a lot right here late in the game [Applause] on fourth down looking to pass throws to the wide out makes the catch he's got it up turns out to be an easy conversion for this offense as they move the chains on fourth down sometimes we don't give enough credit to a receiver knowing exactly where he needs to be on the field and they pick up the first down there yeah and you got to give the receiver credit obviously knowing where that is but the defender needs to know where it is too where is he trying to get that Ball's going to come out quick he didn't really understand where the sticks were and because of that he gives up the first down need to just be a little bit more aware as a defensive guy he works his way all the way down to the three and the defense is reeling and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finishing with his PS going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down from the gun the running back has it that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there and now a big third down coming up down multiple possessions this is one Palmer I'm looking for six I'm not trying to kick a field goal I want to cut into this lead for the touchdown no you got to have it and also considering all that this is four down territory too so you need to identify who are your best players on offense stagged in the end zone touchdown Ohio oh you want something to be able to feel positive about after this game and maybe that late touchdown will do it and re I'm positive that that stat counts on my stat line keep playing keep piling up those stats ain't nothing wrong with that [Music] [Music] they'll try to attack one more on their score exra Point bangs it through for an extra point so a drive there of 82 yds they close that drive going to the air for the final few inches about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the orange have the ball back and ready to go to work how about the way they attacked the last time they had the ball mixing run and pass and winding up in the end zone Jesse that's why recruiting is so important they've got weapons at every skill position on the field any of these guys is dangerous if they touch the football let's see what they do on this drive David and so Palmer I got to take away something I can't let them have everything and have success I got to be aggressive against the run or play for the pass I can't give them everything from the gun give on the inside he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple it's going to be tough sledding for the offense here they're trying to ice this game by running the football and bleeding the clock they've got a pretty good lead here late in the game but the defense knows the run's coming right so they're going to be loading the line of scrimmage getting stops like what they just did be interesting to see what the offense does on this next one dropping back it's mcord a strike downfield and he'll go out of bounds and this aerial attack just continues to carve this defense into tiny slices they showed great trust in their quarterback right there and why not he's had an outstanding game an outstanding game has taken care of the football now late in the game you got the lead that first down now tells me now it's time to start running the football run the clock get out of here with the DB the give as they work on that clock you know it's so important for offens is to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down after the productive first down play it's second and six [Applause] from the gun they'll try to impose their will and he's knocked down but not before moving the chains well they get another big run for a first down and if you're on offense you love the way your offensive line is blocking early in this game they are getting tremendous movement and they're making life pretty easy for these running backs right now Syracuse has a really nice drive going from the shotgun they'll run it they worked that running game down to the 34 let's give him three on the carry we reached the two-minute warning and this offense is that much closer to salting away a victory they'll line up for a second down play takes a hand off it's Allen and a decent gain there before the defense makes the Stop and there's nothing more frustrating than when you get late in the game and you know they're running the football and you don't stop them it's been that kind of day for this defense they haven't played well they're going to have to go to the well they're going to have to figure some things out practice this week I can promise you will not be a lot of fun with these coaches they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker got some room headed to the goal line touchdown Syracuse and the route is on man this has been a complete performance the defense has been lights out and the offense obviously just continues to pour it on this is what you call having a great day putting it all together offense defense complimentary [Music] football lining up for the p8 point and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead so it's a 77 ydd touchdown drive and he finished it with a centilating 28 y to the house almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown on the move from inside is five I guess it could have been worse on that return he goes out of Bounds at the 15 the Ohio U offense returns to the field at this point it really hasn't been your best day just try to find something to build on here at the end David yeah just try to keep fighting show your kids you're going to keep fighting keep throw in the football try to get some points up Palmer points have been at a premium they haven't scored very much but keep fighting man yeah and just you know try to find things to build off of for next week as well right I mean it's all about continuing to improve week in and week out so whether that's identifying Playmakers or just seeing what you can come up with here at the end of this game and not quitting ad throw as the clock winds down and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it and this is just one of those days man where everything has gone wrong right like they just haven't been in a rhythm they haven't they haven't got it going and never built the momentum this is this is one of those days you learn from you try to grow from a lot of things that we're going to show in the film room that people aren't going to like but hopefully you can learn from it and do better next time it's complete a little more space open up that Playbook even more as they pick up the first down out to the 30 there's a great example of the offensive coordinator and quarterback being on the exact same page the coordinator is anticipating man coverage the quarterback recognizes it and immediately he knows which receiver to go to to attack this defense hit hard just as he released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver you see an incompletion there I think a big reason why this team is in such a hole right now in the fourth quarter as they have just not been able to find the explosive plays throwing the ball and you got to wonder at this point is it too little too late now on second down after the incompletion to the air it's Navaro and they got him for the sack the defense puts the exclamation point of the day they have had a wonderful day man doing everything great just you could tell they were dialed into what was going on and now just throw another sack in the asan hitting the quarterback being disrupted they've been all over the field this is a third and long looking to throw and he needs a bunch unloads it left makes the grab outside it's Dennis and listen the defense playing really conservative right you got the lead but here's what I'm trying to do I'm trying to get sacks I got to get to the quarterback like I got to make sure I'm getting him knocking him off the spot patting my stats by the way got a lot of sacks late in games and we had a big lead but that's okay that's what you're supposed to do keep competing defense and the Bobcats decide to punt it away they'll look to pin him deep no return coming here fair catch is signal for and made just shy of the 30 offense getting set for first down on the ground it's out really nice stop there from
