Bowl they've now made 13 straight playoff appearances without reaching the conference Championship that's the longest streak by any fr franchise since conferences were created after the 1970 merger Marcus just go to you first here the Cowboys have a tough first test against The Talented Browns defense How can Dallas get their season off to a good start on Sunday pray you pray pray you gotta pray just to make it today uh listen no on a serious note they they this has to be this has to be a play action based football team against uh obviously the Cleveland Browns one because of the pass rush we know how dominant miles Garrett is you don't want to get into a straight dropback game with him so between Dalvin cook and Ezekiel Elliott they have to find some semblance of balance even though I know DOL hates that word but if these guys get a beat on you and figure out or put you in the obvious passing situations it's a recipe for a disaster and then too Jake Ferguson is going to have to emerge in this offense I know we've spent the whole offseason talking about CD lamb and his ility and we know how good he is but there has to be another key weapon for Dak Prescott when when they talk about the passing game and pushing the ball down field we saw a lot of flashes and really good things from Jake Ferguson he's going to have to continue to build on that and become an integral part of this offense not only blocking in the Run game but pass catching as well yeah I I completely agree Marcus and I think for the the Dallas Cowboys CD lamb obviously we know how important he is and all the things that said about Jamar Chase being late to the party also applied to CD lamb you know just getting to camp and getting to practice that being said this offense is a systematic offense that their pass game all stems from what CD lamb does it is very precise it is Dink and dunk and it is choose your shots you have to have a certain profile of player and pass catchers for this to work the great part is cidd lamb is perfect for that the best thing that could have happened to the Cowboys or I should say the Silver Lining that cidi lamb brought to them by sitting out was their ability to work Jake Ferguson work uh Brandon Cooks work Jaylen Tolbert throughout Camp to develop what is necessary outside of CD we know he is a given with his ability and if you watched last year two early two much early on they relied on Michael Gallop once Brandon Cooks got into the offense once Ferguson got a great feel for it they were clicking on all Cinders I actually think their offense takes a leap this year because of that but to your point they have to show up more consist L outside of what CD L brings to the table yeah Dan quick comment I got something else for you but what do you think about what Hawk said I think Cleveland's defense has a massive advantage in this game CDs had the long hold out they're as good playing man coverage as anybody in ball they got four cats on the back end that can play Man coverage they're going to focus a little bit on CD and they also have more than likely the one of best one of the best pass rushers in football going against the rookie you're you're going to get miles Garrett versus gon at left tackle and defensive end so massive Advantage Cleveland in that matchup all right so what's the plan if you're Cleveland on the defensive side how do you try to attack this I mean I think that the thing that was great about Cleveland's defense last year was how great they were at man coverage now it started to get loose at the back end because teams would run a ton of crossers and I think this whole off season they're going to prepare for that they're going to make sure that in man coverage it's going to be Denzel Ward more than likely on cidd lamb they can shade towards that area and then trusted some of some of those other guys to handle a brand new cook or Jaylen told I agree Ferguson's going to be great but here's the thing Marcus you know this if they're going to have to help that rookie left tackle gon versus a player like a miles Garrett or zarius they're not going to get enough people out yeah I didn't hear that last part what you say then they going to have to what if they have to help gon they're not going to get enough people out to really hurt Cleveland's defense yeah that's why I talked about dvin cook and Zeke bro like I I listen you say those names and you think 10 years ago you like damn that's the best Back Field in the NFL but there's I don't think this team offensively is going to be able to have success if they don't establish a really healthy dose of play action right like asking Dak to be an athlete and extend plays yeah he can do that but not at the level in in which some of these guys that we know can and you don't want to ask him to do that consistently there has to be an emphasis put on keeping them in manageable down you and about it y'all get mad all the time I don't if it's r on first down or pass on first do not get in third and long against the Cleveland Browns I don't care if you're Dallas or any other team in the NFL there in lies your problem you remember last year three piece they made last season's Championship winning roster even better with key offseason additions especially on offense right and for more now we bring in Michelle steel she's joining us from Kansas City what Michelle is Travis Kelce saying about how he feels heading into his 12th NFL season yeah Laura it is an NFL Friday here in KC and it's also Travis Kelsey Day always a big day and you're right 12th NFL season that is a ton of mileage on that body but despite having the lowest number of snaps last year that he's played in his NFL career since at least 2014 Travis Kelce told me that no coaches have approached him about potentially being on a snap count against the Ravens on Thursday night he also added even if they did I probably wouldn't listen to him I just love coming in here man it's it's kind of I mentioned St Joe as My Sanctuary I just love football and how it it takes me away from life and uh it gives me something I can feel genuinely uh happy about I I enjoy coming in the building working on my craft getting to understand a new game plan and perfecting that for the people around me uh gives me a purpose to kind of go about my day and and to live my life and I just uh I have so much excitement doing it it's exciting it's the first uh first game of the season everybody wants to come out and you know show how explosive they are show how great they or how much better they got from last year just going to be a great challenge for us but um I think everybody's just fired up to to get out in front of Arrowhead and get this season started fired up he said that he feels physically great which of course is a far cry from week one of 2023 when he didn't play in that game against the Lions because he had a knee injury now this is of course a big national game all the attention is going to be on the Chiefs and the Ravens and if we know one thing about Travis Kelce it's something about these big moments right where he's able to find another gear and he told me when it comes to week one when it comes to the 2024 season he is quote ready to rock Laura I saw him with that ESPN hat too we like that teammate good job Travis uh the Chiefs had one of the worst wide receiving cores in the NFL last season they had 25 drops seven more than the next closest team Kansas City decided to make wholesale changes this off season trading up to draft Xavier worthy in the first round and then bringing in Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith Shuster so they've made so many improvements on a team that already won the Super Bowl Marcus when you think about this how do you think the wide receiver changes impact Kansas City especially in a rematch with the Ravens yeah I I I thought about Andy Reid first Boogie and Dan can relate to this and the creativity with the speed that he has but also not letting that speed take away from the fact that these guys are really polished wide receivers Xavier worthy especially I know a lot of people got excited about his combine numbers and the things that he was able to do there but more than just being a speed guy he's in an offense where he's going to be used and space is going to be created for him regardless of how fast you are and Maris Brown as well known as another speed guy but true to their wide receiver roots that is what I love about these additions obviously we know that Travis Kelce will be man in the middle of the field finding those one-on ons and being huge in this passing game but now you have significant speed but you also have polished receivers and I think that's something to pay attention to as the season goes along with Andy Reid and his creativity offensively and how he will deploy these guys being true wide receivers that just are out of their mind fast Patrick Mahomes has got a rookie protecting him at left tackle that's probably a storyline that we haven't talked enough about this off season could you imagine the pressure the young man that they drafted out of BYU Kingsley and you read in the creativity that Marcus is referencing and the speed it's great but they got to go into this game on Thursday night to kick off this season with a rookie at left tackle and I know Patrick can mitigate it a little bit but Patrick's a very unique quarterback to protect VAR because the amount of time that he's going to hold on to the football and the kind of the movement within the pocket I think that's like a fascinating storyline for Thursday night is how much does Andy Reid think he has to protect him Matt naggie their play caller do they have to protect him can they cut him loose how does he do tackles was a massive issue for this football team last year we talked about how much they helped them those offensive tackles now with the rookie is it the same story or they do they kind of like take the bandaid off and hey go protect against or you know protect for the best quarterback in football we're going to have to pay attention to that for sure and how does the Ravens defense come out with a bang with that we will talk more about this game later in the show but to the news of the day the 49ers look to be coming together in just the nick of time okay Trent Williams back with the team trying to finalize a deal ahead of their Monday night opener that maybe would let him be out there let's get more on that we welcome in our NFL Insider Dan Graziano gr what changed in the situation to get Williams back into the facility Well Brandon auk signed and that gave the 49ers more time to work on the Williams issue uh also you know Trent Williams 36 like I don't want to cast dispersions but some of these guys don't don't super duper love going to training camp as they get later in their careers either so I think Trent was okay uh hang hanging out and waiting for this but now it's week one time to get serious Trent Williams has three years left on his contract excuse me and uh a lot of times with these situations it's about moving up some money from future years Laura I'm losing my voice I'm so excited about Trent Williams moving up money from future years uh and maybe guaranteeing some because three years left on the contract but no guaranteed money so we'll see how the reworked contract comes out but I would think the Trent Williams ends up with some guaranteed money this year and possibly next year great job powering through there gr get a sip of water for sure okay we're going to let you go he took his son to college not long ago he's getting emotional eyed it's a tough we've all been there before where there's like a frog and you're like oh just don't fail me out try to help him out that's that yak that's that yak stupid he's it's 4m. straight up all right Dan how do you see this 49ers offense trying to attack a talented Jets defense on Monday night hopefully Trent Williams is done by then and he's back out there yeah so I say Advantage Kyle Shanahan because Kyle Shanahan this 49ers offense it's so about getting easy or or quick completions ball out in space trying to manipulate Zone Defenders the New York Jets and Robert Salah play a ton of zone defense so I sit there and I go Kyle's going to find different ways to create small little windows and very clear reads for Brock pry mcaffrey and their screen game will be a huge part because Kyle loves to take advantage of aggressive aggessive defenses and aggressive pass rushes he'll get the ball out and space to players like Debo Samuel I do think it'll be really interesting to watch Brock pie and I've said this and Marcus you know it R you know it Ultra aggressive quarterback makes some throws and try some throws when you're like man you're trying to fit into that window when you're playing an elite speed zone defense that always gets interesting to me because the quarterback doesn't change his spots that often and so is he going to come out that aggressive Rive and can the Jets defensively take advantage of what I would say is his biggest strength yeah do perfect when you talk about the Zone the one thing that came to my mind was obviously Quincy Williams and CJ Mosley and how they try to contain Christian mcaffrey in all the ways that KY Shanahan uses him and when you look at the matchup that to me is going to determine what this game looks like from an offensive standpoint with San Franc here's the one thing for all the creativity and the things that we talked about with KY Shanahan and what he can do to get guys in space yards after the catch is why San Francisco kills people it's the reason why they are so explosive and when you start talking about a defense with the type of speed that you mentioned with the New York Jets and when they come they bring uh bad intentions and I think they have two of the top five linebacker groups in the entire NFL so I'm interested to see not only the in space matchup with Quincy Williams and CJ Mosley but also how they try to contain Christian mcaffrey when he is in the slot when they do move him around and run that screen game with him will will it be those guys making tackles or will it be more about a rally and coming down in that zone that you're talking about don't forget fella I mean Robert Salah not that long from being Kyle Shanahan's defensive coordinator Kyle actually when he was down in Tampa years ago would go and learn defens like sit in the defensive meetings so he could learn the rules of the defensive players in certain schemes and that's the best way to attack so he's going to know basically everything about Robert salah's defense and exactly how he wants to attack some of the principles and the rules of it another layer to a great game you're talking about mcaffrey you guys see there on the screen he's returning to practice after missing much of training camp dealing with that cap injury but expected not to be serious to be good to have him back out there now one player on this 49ers offense that won't be out there is Ricky peol the 49ers rookie piol was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco on Saturday he didn't need surgery and was released from a hospital on Sunday his mother said on social media that the bullet exited his back and missed vital organs a 17-year-old male suspect was arrested by authorities let's get gr back in here so thankful obviously that he's going to be okay gr what does this mean for his football future yeah obviously they'll give him whatever time he needs to recover but I mean what you described there is is a is a miracle and and he's up and about it he's been interacting with teammates and uh GM John Lynch actually told reporters a short time ago out there that Piera is already on him about when can I come back and play so they put him on non-f football injury list so he has to by rule miss the first four games at least uh and then I guess you know it depends on sort of what what harm was done right we know we know he's okay and up and about but did it damage a muscle like something like that so they'll work with him for the next four weeks and see what kind of shape he's in but uh he seems to be in good spirits by all accounts uh and very fortunate obviously to be where he is but uh it does sound like the 49ers believe he will play at some point this year again leaving that entirely up to him in the short term for sure yeah again just thankful for the miracle that occurred and that he'll be okay we'll see when he gets back on the football field thanks to gra for the latest there we're just getting started on NL live after a disappointing into last season the Eagles Are Back In Action Sunday but someone here thinks Jaylen Herz and that offense could have their handsful we'll explain why plus Terrell Suggs played with both Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes the former linebacker joins us next he's going to talk about their matchup Thursday night who does he think has the edge that's all coming your way next right year the start important going 10 and one in their first 11 games Jaylen Herz ranked sixth in the league in total qbr but then it all fell apart Herz and the Eagles went one and5 in their final six regular season games lost the division and then lost to the Bucks 32 to9 in the Wild Card round in Tampa Philly will be the first team to face Green Bay's new defensive coordinator Jeff Halley and head coach Nick serani spoke about that challenge moments ago you have to uh you have to try to dig as much as you possibly can um also knowing that week one there's a lot of unknowns that are going to happen throughout the league right even with people with with defensive coordinators that have been there for the year we we'll have to be ready for for anything but you know without giving up uh secrets of what we've done uh you know we've looked at a bunch of stuff as well um but also knowing that everything's alive yeah uh by the way Hawk's with us now thank you for joining us H hey hwk good to see you best skin routine in T I know he's just yeah I I need Hawk skin uh all right there isn't any tape Dan that's true of hle as a defensive coordinator the NFL in the regular season but what do you expect to see from Green Bay on Friday pressure uh and Jeff Halley's DNA kind of where he's cut his teeth it was in San Francisco it was in Houston it was at Ohio State obviously Boston College I mean he wants to play Man coverage and he wants to Blitz you and that's kind of contrary to what Green Bay has been defensively many of us have complained about that and so this boats well for Green Bay cuz Philadelphia the the number one thing that was the issue last year specific to the their pass game was they could not handle pressure allout pressure man pressure fire zone pressure any form of pressure that forced that offense to have a plan and then execute against what they were going to do versus blitzes they struggled with so I think halfly for me like this a big foreshadowing game for Philly and and for Jaylen Herz and I'm not saying it has to be perfect but I do think they got to answer and Jaylen specifically has to answer I understand we weren't good at this I wasn't good at this I fixed it and at Le having signs that there's growth in that specific area they will get the show that Friday night yeah I mean Hawk Friday is the first time we get to see Jaylen Herz with Kell Moore as the offensive coordinator how can Kell Moore get the most out of Herz in this offense consistency in his game plan like everything Dan talked about is exactly spot on and for Jaylen Herz or any player you go into a game and your apprehension or nerves coming not being prepared they didn't feel confident that they had a game plan last year that had the answers to the test when people sent pressure so for Kell Moore those are some of the questions that I have around him what is his consistency like in his game plan and his strategy that helps fill in the gaps for Jaylen herdz in this offense we know that you can dial up plays for the most talented offense in the NFL which is what the Eagles are they have no deficiencies at any position with your game plan and your consistency in the Run game can you hold on to games late in there and then as you go out there does it feel like you're executing a game plan rather than just calling plays like Dan and I talked about at na a year ago y'all we don't have 10 minutes but what Dan and Hawk just said it's what I was thinking about with the Philadelphia Eagles and when we sat here two years ago and talked about them on their way to the Super Bowl the thing that they did Dan remember is they dictated how defenses would play them I want to see that come back I want to see the RPO Jaylen being a threat with his legs not meaning he has to be a runner but we talked about I I I I start thinking about the playoff game against San Francisco or one of the regular season games when it was the first time we saw Fred Warner and Dre green law play Slow football and not be able to impact the game with their speed like they were able to do I'm hoping that Kelly Moore understands now having Jaylen and saquin Barkley in the back field you can dictate a lot about how defenses are going to attack you and get back to kind of being able to use all of the things that he has at his disposal you brought up halfly in this defense he likes the pressure historically I play for guys that he knows and guys with his type of mentality you slow that pressure down by dictating what they can do with their linebackers and I think that's going to be the most interesting thing Friday when they face off in Brazil yeah it's interesting because defens has certainly knew what to do against him last season he had a 43 qbr against the Blitz in the Eagles final six regular season games last year that that ranked 24th in the NFL look at that 2 hours starting at 3 EAS on Mondays should we go to Brazil we didn't get invited but maybe next
