the noon hour is here check it out and you're locked on to Utah's highest rated most listened to sports radio station it's my station it's my station this is H sson and Scotty G on 975 the KSL sport Z [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey welcome in 975 the KSL Sport Zone H Olson Scotty G how are you it is game day let's go the long summer has come to an end Hans it has been a long draw this has felt longer than most Summers and I maybe it's because of the Jazz boredom yeah it could be but we did have the whole Hockey Club kick up and the NHL excitement that helped through a lot of it but when the Jazz don't make the postseason it it expedites the offseason in the Long Summers and there's no real hope for it this year and there's no real hope for it this year and yeah that they took some picks in the draft but just felt like the draft kind of lingered out because there weren't real interesting names in the draft and then you get going with Spring ball and then we leak into fall Camp Fall Camp has felt like a nightmare but our 60 and 60 has carried us through yes it has carried us through we do have number one and number two for you today yep we will announce that at 1:30 and we are ready for four big 12 games tonight you've got Kansas you've got Utah you've got Colorado and you've got one other that I can't think of is there's one other right Kansas Colorado Utah and oh Central Florida plays tonight as well now nobody plays anybody except for Colorado maybe maybe Colorado gets bumped by the Bison I wouldn't surprise me the Bison now the Bison aren't what they used to be but they they they've got talent so really excited for tonight by the way um you're full of garbage by the way why on what uh see I and I'm I'm guilty of this as well I still like to think that I can put it away like I used to there's no way you're eating 20 of those wings right now you don't think no I think that you've restricted yourself enough that you'd get through 10 and your your your stomach could be yelling at you pretty hard well I'm sure we could make this happen no no no for educational purposes no I mean I would like to but no by the way that was not me challenging you I'm not saying that I'm just saying I'm just saying I said 18 to 20 18 to 20 you took a picture of some wings or somebody tweeted out a picture of wings how many can you eat in one sitting and you said 18 to 20 each dipped in blue cheese um I have little doubt that this been January no problem done done uh now that it's August and you and I have made significant Life Choices that have altered our ability to consume High quantities of food uh I think your stomach is probably shrunk a little bit and uh I think you get probably to eight and you will be like o uh-uh so the reason that I even responded to that we did the round table at JCW's yeah and by the way this is not a knock on you it's not a challenge it's not anything you're good and and I it grabbed a d dozen wings on my way out oh you did I grabbed a dozen wings on my way out because JCW's wings are the most underrated untalked about Wing in the state of Utah you know I don't think I've ever had a wing there oh Scotty it's a it's a fried it's a non-breaded it's a deep fried non- breaded Wing love it and it's just rolled in sauce um I like the the mild honey which is y delicious and then they've got the the hot buffalo and then they've got their homemade blue cheese sauce which is incredible so I grabbed a dozen on my way out the door I did eat five of the Dozen and felt like I could eat more but I picked up Rock and he polished off the other seven okay so but you felt pretty confident after five you could you could keep going I felt pretty darn get the whole 12 I do all right I do I think I can that horse still wants to run huh yeah and and I'm talking about sucking the bone ju 12 just the marrow just yeah I love buffalo wings so much and it's football season it's buffalo wings season well have we heard from Frank because Frank brought in Wings every time last year have not heard from Frank but do we even know Frank's going to show up today well he asked we were in studio I said yes we're in studio and he said in studio yeah I know does Frank know the studio policies it's not important they don't know we exist around here it's fine oh okay um Hey Lloyd you or Scotty Scotty one of the two of you I need some help all right just and I'm so sorry for my ignorance but you know my issues with this walk me through the ESPN plus thing oh what do I got to do or what are people having to do because that's the only way you can get Southern Utah Utah that's tonight the only way you can get it is ESPN plus um call rattles on ESPN which that's easy for me because I already pay a boatload of money so that I can flip on a TV and click through channels yeah sure you have the Hulu Disney package right do you not have that I have the Disney yeah we have Disney plus you have okay uh usually Disney plus comes with a package with Hulu and ESPN plus yeah they throw in that plus with that so you need to find out whoever's got your password for Disney plus whoever pays for it no that's this is an Amanda one oh okay well then I think you CU her and the girls she the girls do her hair while they watch like Moana or something okay I thought you were gonna need to call Ryan or somebody no not on this one all right um I would uh yeah I I think you should be you should have it see this is the oh I know dude it's ridiculously dumb and everybody's like you know when this first started to come out everybody's like oh it's Gonna Save everybody money I guarantee you I'm adding up all my subscriptions I'm paying way more than I used to oh I hate this I hate ESPN plus I hate all these stupid streaming things yep I'm with you man just wor this is what I want just give me a pay to play yeah like so I can I can pay $39 99 $3.99 and I can get this game because all I would do is I would buy Utah Southern Utah and I would watch Colorado and um UNCC or what uh uh North Dakota North Dakota yeah and and then tomorrow morning I would jump on and I would look at the highlights on YouTube of Kansas versus Lynden wood and Central Florida versus whoever whatever FCS team they are like but the day would cost me $3.99 and I wouldn't have a reoccurring subscription and I but even then it's stupid like just put this on a channel that we have yeah how many stupid channels do we have I don't need to watch reruns of Rosanne throw a game on there I don't even care it's the CW nowadays I'm like d man maybe that's the way to go I've got the CW h i I don't even care throw it on BET I've got bet I've got lifetime got lifetime Hallmark I've got the the O Channel what's oxygen oxygen or is that the Oprah one I think it originally was Oprah and then it turned into oxygen yeah it's oxygen I've got I've got all those dude do you have ion I do yeah I think I do have ion I think I don't even know what ion is I've got so many stupid channels that I've got 500 channels and I used eight of them maybe nine yeah and it's like just take these games and throw them on there I don't even care well I I hate this stupid subscription business I know it's it's the absolute worst absolute worth so are you fans just buying ESPN plus tonight then oh yeah yeah absolutely by the way I don't know if I sent this to you uh I sent it to my wife but I was uh looking at the um where is it okay so there was a story in the Wall Street Journal that I got a link to did I I don't know if I sent Lloyd this but it said but it was a link to a story it says people are sick and tired of all their subscriptions yeah and I'm like that's a and I'm like that's a story I want to read well then the Wall Street Journal says oh you got to subscribe it's only available to the Wall Street Journal subscri to read this story and wall Street's expensive expensive it's like a I think it's like $12.99 a month you did not send it to me but I saw the same story and I wanted to read it yeah and I went and it was behind a pay wall I'm like huh the irony yeah this is it's all just we are just full of complete stupidity with all of this yep I mean at least make that one free I know right leave that one open just throw Southern Utah Utah is the number 12 ranked team in the country and you can't find Space on one of your stupid ESPN networks and you can't find Space on one of the fs or one of the CBS sports or one of the what 500 stupid sports channels that you got and you can't find room for it it's the number 12 team in the country but why Colorado then two CS about Colorado you know why it's Dion Oh this is just oh this has got me yeah bugged so now I got to check my Disney Plus Y and then I got to sift through a Hulu and I got to call my wife what's the oh yeah what's the login and what's the password and and then you'll get halfway through and it'll say buffering or too many people are on it'll tell me with your Disney Plus subscription you do not have access to the ESPN plus materials yeah then what am I insert your credit card here but yep no you're right you're 100% right so okay so Lloyd how are you watching this game tonight are you going down there no I'll be watching it in the studio here on because he's hosting the pre and post with chrisan oh that's right that's right what about you uh I've got I've got that combo ESPN Hulu thing okay but yes I do have that combo as well but I haven't I haven't fired it up in a while so I'm sure I'll have all kinds of user air mistakes tonight trying to get it to work oh and then it'll buffer on you yeah buffer and then like too many people are using it and Lloyd will be in Albuquerque watching it and Ste I really wish you'd stop making that story up it is weird that the last log on that was from Albuquerque from the 505 yeah some cabin in Albuquerque ANS and Scotty 1218 let's get to it starting lineup on a game day folks let's get to it this is Scotty let's go the lineup is set and it's time to kick off the show with the biggest topic of the day this is the starting lineup on 975 the KSL Sports Z hey and Scotty starting lineup right here on 975 the KSL Sport Zone as always brought to you by our good friends at Mount Lance Supply where the pros go for plumbing landscaping irrigation agricultural irrigation I mean come on if water runs through it you know it they'll take care of you find a location near you at Mountainland tocom well I feel like we've got a little bit of clarification not a lot of clarification but we got some clarification from BYU practice yesterday on potentially what to expect from the BYU quarterback position Aaron Rodrick was talking with some of the media after practice and he said he does have a clear-cut starter we're not going to say what we're doing again because I want Southern Illinois to have prepare for both guys but I will say that what I hoped would happen during camp that someone would separate thems enough to be the clear starter that we feel like that's occurred so we'll have a starting quarterback Saturday night and expecting good things so did that separation create where that quarterback will be the only guy that's playing on Saturday um I'm not going to say that either cuz I again I want just don't want to give away any competitive advantages they are both good players and it was a good competition and took some time for there to be some separation but feel like we got what we were looking for and I think everybody on this team watched it happen can give Southern Illinois any competitive Advantage no the Salukis were going to keep them in the dark it's Southern illino eron like I I I love A-Rod don't get me wrong a-rod's great and I understand what he's doing but come on Southern Illinois and I look you keep it to yourself that's fine that totally within your right but this Cloak and Dagger thing just cracks me up I'm still trying to figure out like the depth of of not naming it not going with it and truly understand I like your by the way I like your theory on this in terms of you think it's rlof because they're keeping it quiet well and if it was bohannan they'd make a bigger deal out of it that's how I feel I've I've kind of felt that way for the last week and a half that if it was bannan it would be a pretty big announcement yeah of a returning Big 12 Champion quarterback and and then there's another part of me that's wondering if there's other aspects that they're waiting on you know you you can leave a team in mystery and that's your prerogative and like I said Scotty if if it's My Prerogative and then I don't really care what some buffoon on air I age I I agree or what some writer says it be Bobby Brown that's his prerogative yeah like if if if I if I feel like I can manipulate or change somebody's thought process or anything with it then I hold it because I can yeah and screw you no screw the media screw the fans yeah you don't need to know and that's to like I'm not blaming him I just think it's funny yeah like I just think like the the amount of weirdness that coaches have and how neurotic they are and when you step take a step back like if if if the difference between beating or losing to Southern Illinois is you keeping your quarterback Under Wraps then you got bigger problems than than uh than than a quarterback controversy I also wonder if there's some dynamics of the competition that is still going on in the quarterback room that they just want to continue to allow to play out in private and not in public yeah I also wonder if like as of yesterday if there was still something that could have changed and you leave that possible change as an opening for you without having any egg on your face but now that you've come out and said hey it's a clear-cut starter we know which way we're going then I don't know what the downside of announcing that would be I will put myself in whoever that is which by the way they have clamped down and and good for them that's fine like you know that I know those guys and you know I've got I typically have some good information they've clamped down and that's that's absolutely fine that is again their prerogative and so I don't have the information on it um but I if I were to put my myself in the shoes of the quarterback that has now separated himself I would be like let's go ahead and announce it yeah I want I want everybody to know I'm the guy I would really want it to be announced yeah I mean I think you could say hey Southern Illinois here's the first 10 plays we're going to run and these are the quarterbacks and this is the Personnel Group and this is where we're going to run and you still won't be able to stop it because we're BYU and you're Southern Illinois right there's options based off of it so no matter what you do we're going to find our our plug and play and you're going to struggle with it yeah yep but if you were the quarterback wouldn't you oh yeah I want is that selfish maybe we're more selfish than no like typical division one athlete I mean let's okay let's just make it personal here when BYU introduced you as the new color analyst didn't you think it was cool that they made a big deal out of it and they did the publicity and the press release and all that stuff yeah it was a really cool moment they didn't have it like hey h just you know what here's the thing you know you know just show up on Saturday and crack on the mic and we'll go it's like no like like I've worked hard I've earned this and I want I want to make a big deal out of this I got a call from my mom and dad and yeah you know you get to get your aunt uncle or family members or friends like Carlos and Scotty and Sean all my my boys they all called oh my gosh this release is awesome yeah and you get to swim in it for a minute yeah it's like this is this is awesome this is kind of a life accomplishment and I'm very proud of it I I don't want like whoever it is maybe they don't give two craps maybe I am was selfish and a little conceited and maybe I do want to swim in the the the Public's appreciation of me more than others but man if it was me like Pub me up yeah absolutely and guess what I walk a little taller my shoulders are a little broader I've got more responsibility because now the public expects a lot but again it's your prerogative It's it's Aaron rodri's decision to make if he wants to keep it close to the vest he can do it and I'm just telling everybody right now he has kept that this entire program has kept this one extremely tight yeah now all indications based off of what I said I still feel like they would be like big 12 Champion quarterback returns to BYU grabs the starting role and returns to prominence I just feel like the way it plays out I'm expecting Jake but I don't know yeah hands in Scotty 975 the KSL Sport Zone Mike Sanford's going to join us next we'll talk some college for Utah to kick things off tonight I'm excited to see them play some clean veteran football that's what I'm expecting from them clean veteran football no turnovers no dumb mistakes you don't need to take chances if you're cam Rising don't take chances if you're defensive ends don't take chances just hold contain yeah go on the rush pin the ears back on third Downs make sure that you spot your your moments and go get your moments but don't don't take crazy chances that put you in bad spots you know what I mean Scotty that give you up big plays and crazy momentum moments don't don't do that stuff just play good clean football joining us now making the transition from coach to Media member it is Mike Sanford kind enough to carve out a few moments for us coach how are you hey coach hey how we doing fellas I tell you Scotty getting to know you at Logan Utah you were you an inspiration to me to jump into this world so here I am that's so cool I should have led you another direction does it I mean how does it does it feel weird you know uh it's you know late August early September to not be crazy butterflies going through camp and going through game prep and fine last second things to try to get ready for an upcoming opponent you know it does a little bit and it also does so last year I took I also didn't coach uh but I did Coach High School football as a a volunteer uh Wing back coach at me High School here in the Colorado uh Denver Metro for Jason clatt who's the older brother of Joel clatt and I I kind of got those butterflies and all that stuff this year I haven't had the time I've been covering the Denver Broncos so closely um with altitude Sports down here in in Denver and so as a result of that I haven't gotten that kind of that butterfly feeling until last night like I could not sleep last night it was just built into me 18 years as a college coach five as a player boy State man you just get those butterflies you know when it's it's football season time and I had that in full effect last night just to kind of set the stage so everybody is familiar with you and and where you come from and where you're headed Mike sford is one of the best out there and he is the son of the Legend Mike sford Senor who's one of the best Minds football Minds that you'll find out there as you mentioned played your years at boisey State and then you've coached all across the West UNLV I know you were at Stanford for a bit um obviously back at boisey State and then got familiar with Scotty at Utah State I know that you finished things out at Colorado and and what' you do Mike you're just there as the coach and you got the interim head coaching job and then you just decided Well I'm I'm gonna stay is that how you ended up just hunkering down there in Colorado yeah you know so uh coach Prime Deion Sanders comes in as uh you know as as the new head coach and uh similar to a lot of the players on that team a lot of those players ended up in the portal so did US coaches um and so that was the reality of of my situation and um you know I I I had been on a three-year contract that was just there for one year um so you got you can obviously do the math there um that you know I I hadn't had a chance to be a dad I had had a chance to really be a um you know coach my kids and use Sports and so you know I I didn't know what I was going to do next um I've had opportunities to coach uh at the power five level in the mountain wests in the last year and to be honest I just I I'm really finding a lot of passion and also the balance of life that I've probably been wanting to have um you know now that I have kids that are you know a daughter in high school and two that are youngsters uh it's just been really fun for me to to do stuff with football and be analyst um I'll be doing my first color commentary gig for altitude TV uh for CSU um in two of their games so I'm really looking forward to just all the different avenues that media um offers me to stay in touch with the great game that I love coaching so coach we were uh just playing some comments from Aaron rodri who's got a quarterback battle at uh that they finally settled in on but he's decided not to make it official and or not to announce it which is totally fine and that that's his right as a as a coach to not disclose that until the game starts but you've coached that position for a long time at the Collegiate level at the highest at Notre Dame and and all over the country how difficult is that as an OC to settle in when you got two guys that are going back and forth and they're both just you know letting it rip and practice and they're neck and neck how agonizing are those decisions as a coach yeah they're tough and the irony of of it is actually my wife and and my two youngest boys are are uh making the drive I25 and then 80 West to go to the opener for the cougs my my brother-in-law my wife's younger brother is a a-rod's assistant he's the assistant quarterback coach there um so I I do have inside information but I'm not gonna share that on air because I respect the process um but you know it is challenging it's it's hard especially when you know you have two really good options that are experienced starting quarterbacks in power five football you know between Jak redoff and and Gary bannan I mean Gary bannan was a was a really exciting player to watch uh you know in at Baylor before the injury bug kind of kind of bid him a little bit and um by all accounts had a very good training camp and you know it's been a very spirited competition from everything I've heard um and when it is that close um you do kind of look for that knockout punch um you know is it going to be a full week of practice where one guy has the upper hand um and and based off everything I've heard that that has been the case um and so a lot of times it's not as hard to communicate that because you these players are very self-aware they see the great sheets you know after scrimmages after every practice and they understand who's performing at a higher level so uh I think it's going to end up being really good that you have two experience starters for BYU going into a very important year for uh for that staff and I'm I'm gonna try to make my way up to a game as well coach is there an advantage that you can gain by not announcing at this point I ironically I was a part as an athlete at Boise State 2004 I was in a very spirited head-to-head competition with Jared zansky I was a fifth year senior zansky was a sophomore and there really wasn't a knockout punch in that competition and um they told us both uh that Jared Z bransky got the starting job um a week before the opening game against the Idaho vandals um but they didn't announce it publicly until the the like actually when there was uh the the starting lineup introduced at Broncos stadium at the time um and so it was tough I mean I my my now wife was there she's in the crowd you know in tears I it's not an easy thing to deal with but um you know you do understand it as an athlete uh and and I think it's gonna be from an advantage standpoint uh you're you're preparing for two different types of players I mean that if you go back and study Gary bannan's tape particularly from Baylor you know when he was at his best you know you see a highly mobile player uh smart with football you know and then Jake redo is is a guy that you know has a lot of big Talent Big Arm Talent um but needs to needs to have consistent decision making over the course of an entire football game can have that one or two like boneheaded decision um for for BYU to play at a competitive level so there are two different levels of uh you know preparation that would go into it for Southern Illinois and um I'm anxious to see how it all plays out Mike Sanford joining us right here on 975 the KSL Sports Zone uh Utah comes in with a lot of high expectations coach and certainly it's welld deserved Kyle winningham's had that program rolling but this team seems like it's a it's at a bit of a different level in terms of talent returning uh and with the added increase of access to the college football playoff is it fair to talk about this team in terms of a team that could be a playoff team well I think it wouldn't be fair to to Omit them from from being the no-brainer in the Big 12 in my opinion you know this is a this is a program that came into the Pack 12 with fairly low you know at the time the pack 10 and all they did was Corner the market of physicality in the pack 10 now the Pack 12 and now the pack two I guess um but you know it's just a it's a program with with Cam Rising returning um you know the the weapons that that he'll have available on the perimeter and that'll be tapped into way more than the 23 edition of the youths and you know the defensive front you know the offensive line uh when you have continuity a program like w has had and like you've had you know with your offensive coordinator your your o line coach uh you know defensive staff that is such a benefit that is that's almost like a cheat code in this current model of college football that seems so transient and I think that's a big reason why Utah's been so dominant I I expect Utah to not just win this conference but I think they're going to win going away uh and to not even expect that I think is under selling what Utah has coming back coach I know that you're based in and doing a lot of work there in Colorado and obviously very familiar with that Buffalo program having been the interim head coach and and coached there in other capacities it's just been one storyline after the other we just recently had one with a former Utah player that was an assistant coach on that staff that left left because of differences with nil funding and Trevor Riley and you know we we're watching Warren Sap send out all of these pictures is he's parading around with the pro prog and you know all of the things that Warren Sap brings with him which are very interesting and we just have seen all these aspects of this thing what is it going to end up being I mean is this going to be a team that you can be proud of is this a team that colado fans are going to love or is this a team that's grabbed more hype than it should and probably is going to be a let down well it's such an interesting discussion because the reality of hiring coach Prime Deion Sanders as your head coach is that you understand that this is this has been his life his life has been on full display he is a he is a marketing and attention generating machine and so with that you know comes story lines like this but you know I do think that the in in the current landscape of the portal of nil died as a superpower that Deion Sanders possesses and that Colorado now has on their side all the different off season storylines all the things that happened with the local media here between coach Prime and Sean Keeler and different members of the media in Colorado at the end of the day it's not going to go out on the field and that's I'm excited about tonight uh to watch what really the game of football is about it's about those 11 find out you know this has been a program that has not allowed much access since coach Prime's been there uh we just interviewed the beat Rider Brian Howell from the Colorado Boulder Daily Camera and he he's only been to one practice you know so he doesn't know what to expect wow and I was asking about the dep chart they haven't released a chart um I asked him if there's a tight end in the offense he he he basically rattled off several guys that he doesn't know anything about hasn't seen him um you know and so that's my question is a team that uh was GNA commit to running the football that's challenging to do if you don't have a tight end in offense the only way you could do it is you have to commit to having the quarter and I don't see that that's going to be the path forward for Shor Sanders with all it stake with his draft status and and everything that comes after the season so you know when you guys watch the game tonight CU versus North Dakota State you guys are going to find out what everybody here in the local media is finding out we don't we don't know what to expect wow well and and let's be honest I mean you know the landscape of college football North Dakota is more than capable of going in there and putting it on them yeah do you realize that north Cara State's I think five and one in their last six games against Power five Now power 14 so this is going to be a really interesting game the CU haters and the Dion ha and the CU lovers and the Dion lovers are going to watch every single bit of this game tonight I think that the the eyeballs are fixated on on fulson field tonight probably a lot more than Minnesota and North Carolina I want to get your thoughts now as you've been a coach and now flipped over and doing some of the work on the media side of things just your thoughts on Deion Sanders shutting down one of the reporters unable to ask him questions and and how that was handled well you know the thing that that came about from The Denver Post you know talking about that shutdown is that they went into the public records contracts of both coach Prime and his predecessors as head coaches at CU and he does have a clause uh that CU agreed to and that Clause is that um he he is to you know his obligation as a head coach is to consistently and professionally meet with and then this is where his Clause is different than every other pre uh preexisting coach at CU with every mutually agreed upon member of the media um and so because CU essentially gave that power of contractually to coach Prime you know he he didn't do anything wrong I me he's he's fulfilling his contractual obligation relative to the the deal at CU plac now is that healthy for uh first amendment of America well I think we could have a lot of conversations about that um and so you know it's a really interesting storyline frankly as a a former interim head coach at CU I kind of stay out of my opinion on that but those are the facts you know Deon standards does not have to meet contractually with members of the media unless they're mutually agreed upon well coach we appreciate your time always good catching up uh enjoy sitting on your couch and watching games that's got to be an interesting perspective last year and going into this year as well but uh looking forward to uh catching up with you again throughout the season well I appreciate you guys and I'd be remissed if I didn't mention I was at all 18 open practices for the Denver Broncos and the youths have made a massive impact on that roster uh particularly Jonah Ellis and Devon Bailey those are two of my favorite players watching every single day those guys are going to end up starting football games this fall we're going to need to get you back on before we kick off that season Scotty's a big Broncos guy and and is always paying attention to the information Lloyd and I are we're Raiders fans to the to the core well Lloyd is I I just kind of tag along with him because I'm trying to find something to hold on to but we'll get you on before that kickoff and really get some insight there from coach because obviously we're we're all fascinated by the Zach Wilson story oh that too yeah everybody from the state of Utah played it one of the programs has had a really good training camp which is really neat a awesome thanks coach appreciate it appreciate there he is Mike Sanford it's got to be weird making that transition from Media or from coach to mediaon is not contractually obligated to even meet with any of them I guess not is that that's what Mich said yeah yeah because that is really unique to most coaching contracts is it not I mean you know that that more than me but yep that is uh that is highly highly unusual unusual yeah hands in Scotty 975 the KSL Sport Zone what you may have missed coming up next and then it'll be your you preview show counting you down to Utah and southern Utah tonight it's all right here on 975 the ekl Sports Zone this is this is DJ and PK right now by royy Jensen college football expert if you were offered the Utes or the field in the Big 12 who would you take I would take the Utes I think they have a tough one right away at Oklahoma State and this could be perception I know that the Big 12 is a step up clearly from the Mountain West or from any of the group of five conferences but it's not a step up from the Pack 12 and the way that the University of Utah plays is not typical Pack 12 football this is power football the Pack 12 the Big 12 I don't get the impression that they're the real physical teams and I think there's going to be teams in this conference that really have some difficulty with the power the defense and the physicality of the University of Utah football catch DJ and PK mornings from 6 to 10 on 975 the KSL Sports Zone your home for the best college football coverage in Utah is on the KSL Sports s the Cougars kick off the 2024 season with a home battle against I'm soy hands and Scotty 975 the KSL Sports Zone hope you're all having a great Friday or excuse me it feels like Friday it's Thursday tomorrow will be Friday and we'll be breaking down some college football which H is very excited about breaking down a little Utah and Southern Utah we're ready to get this thing going I am so excited about it I'm excited about our next guests too Frank Dolce will join us coming up for the next two hours in fact uh Frank if you want to jump on really quick for a second here because this is a quarterback related comment how was the N the NFL so brutal so so jiren Hall was he played really well for Minnesota like jiren Hall was yeah no you don't need to tap it mik check yeah you're good mik check okay okay we're good here we go I'm here another year that may have been the perfect start to this year Jaren Hall's a really good quarterback and Jaren Hall had some really good preseason stuff and Minnesota's like ah not good enough let's bring in that old washed up boy State guy that was the son of a guy that Co Miner played for many many years well he was Mark rippen yeah he was Mark rippen's son I think it his nephew oh is it his nephew yeah it's his nephew yeah in direct blood but they they decide they're gonna just let go of jiren Hall and bring in rippen and it's like it's just a brutal the NFL is so brutal for quarterbacks Tyler Huntley got released too today I have thoughts on all of those things if you'd like to know that's well well I mean we're not bringing you on the radio for your pretty face you know it's all folks spoken like my mother yeah anyways jar Hall good night everybody best thing that could have happened to him why what to be released from the Vikings well you got you have to be somewhere where they recognize the talent and that that wasn't the case at with the Vikings yeah and I think he's talented I think he can play somewhere it's not with the Vikings okay so he's he's he's swimming Upstream like go find a better place to be I think that's I think that's helpful for him there's really only 64 spots in that League I know he could yeah Zack Wilson playing with the New York Jets I mean and now he's in a I think he's in a better spot even though yeah the the draft and everything else it's not worked out but he's in a he's in a healthier situation for sure for sure and I think this lead to a long-term career for Zach Wilson if Zack Wilson plays a couple more years in New York and it same result he's not going anywhere like that's it he's done he's Sanchez he's he's he's Sanchez he's sitting down he gets knocked over by the guard who's making a block or whatever and then we never see him in but but I didn't feel that way with jiren in Minnesota I I thought Minnesota would be a little bit better of a fit but you don't feel the same no I it's not that I don't feel the same you're saying Minnesota doesn't feel the same all right well obviously if they're bringing a riping I didn't know Tyler Huntley got cut yeah Tyler Huntley got released earlier today which is probably more surprising to me than QB Tyler Huntley yeah what did you say Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley Tyler Huntley I think maximized his talent in and his run in the NFL I think he maximized his opportunity in the NFL what's he been there five years yeah I was not necessarily a believer in Tyler Huntley coming out of college being able to land on an NFL roster in fact I think on lots of NFL rosters that he doesn't have a yeah fiveyear career five six year care he was Landing in Baltimore with Lamar Jackson was very beneficial for him very beneficial and so I was extremely impressed with what Tyler Huntley accomplished and maybe he has a little bit more to to go in in the NFL so I would say like for Tyler Huntley that's a great unbelievable to me success story to me he's playing on house money cuz I agree with you on that one yeah so and and he totally proved me wrong could Tyler Huntley make some type of positional change like we've seen Tamm Hill do or because he's such a crazy athlete he could he transition to receiver could he transition to I mean he's only 61 so it's yeah that'd be tough I don't think so he transition to safety could he I think he still only weighs 185 pounds doesn't he yeah well he was I think he was 210 or so when he was I mean you got to admit the guy is a wild athlete well yeah that's that's the Reon I think his athleticism is off the charts and that's why he he made a team and he was successful hey I don't see I don't see him transitioning over to another position like how and why did it come to an end with Baltimore for him does anybody remember I don't remember he was the perfect backup in that offense I agree and I think he may have left in free agency and went to Cleveland yeah all right hen Scotty your you preview show kicks off next with the legend rank Dolce next 975 DSL Sports Zone
