Kansas opens as a HUGE favorite over Lindenwood

at long last the first game week of the Kansas football season is here and with the j-hawks season opener against lynen wood just days away we've gotten the first Las Vegas betting spread for this contest and I think it's a really interesting one so we'll do a quick video here to discuss it and what it means um big picture and also just for the game on Thursday night uh I like looking at Action Network they do a great job of tracking a lot of the data around betting spreads whether the spreads going going up down um where it is at different sports books if you're really into that stuff I think it's interesting because I think betting spreads tell you a lot about what the public thinks about a certain team and for KU the betting spread for this game opened up on Sunday I believe was at FanDuel at around 43 and a half points that's how much KU is favored by in this contest it feels like the most ku's been favored in a football game in a really really really long time and if you want to compare it to the season opening betting spreads over the last two seasons you can really see how the perception of this Kansas team has changed where two years ago in 2022 K was favored by 33 and a half points against Tennessee Tech Tennessee Tech was an a Very mediocre to subpar FCS team in KU heading into the 2022 season um was viewed as a team that had maybe four five wins was about what people thought and KU goes out in that game beats Tennessee Tech 5 6 to10 J scored 35 points in the first half before really cruising in the second half on their way to one of their biggest home wins um at that point in a very very long time and then you look last year against Missouri State K was a 32 and a half Point favorite Missouri State a little bit better of an FCS program the Tennessee Tech I can't remember correctly if they were ranked in the FCS poll were receiving votes but they were a team that was at least more highly thought of within the FCS than Tennessee Tech and so KU goes in that game 32 and a half Point favorites um KU ends up winning that one 48- 17 so Jayhawks did not cover the spread in that one but it goes to show you that then you're looking at this game where K's gonna play uh a subpar bad maybe potentially lyndenwood team in the FCS you look at the the preseason Big South ovc Association poll they're picked eighth out of nine teams last year they were three and seven with one of their wins coming against the D3 school that didn't win game in their own conference so it's a team that is not going to come in with the same sort of um pedigree as a you know Missouri State if I dare mention Nicholls State a few years ago under David Batty so it's going to be a different type of game and what does this betting spread tell us about the KU program well it says people on the outside are thinking that people might want to bet Kansas big in this game that's why the spread is so high if you want to look at what the implied projection is from Las Vegas you take in right the betting spread for this one of 43 and a half points and then the over under8ed score of 51-7 that's a pretty huge margin there and so for KU in this game I think it could look similar to that Tennessee Tech game where you see KU really start fast you know Jaylen Daniels is fully healthy he talked on Sunday about how good he feels heading into the year someone like Devon Neil you look at all the skill position guys KU has the physicality of the offensive line the team speed Improvement on defense like KU should be able to really control this game it wouldn't shock me if we see KU really start fast and control things and then cruise to a victory in the second half will it be anywhere near enough to cover a huge spread like that I don't know um I'm really fascinated to see how this spread changes over the course of the week because it starts out so big of course you got plenty of coverage for you headed on the website make sure you're checking it out all on fog. net plenty of IP coverage for our subscribers plenty of free coverage if you just want to check out some more generic preview content and make sure you're liking and subscribing to the YouTube channel to stay tuned with everything going on turn on that little notification Bell see you when we upload videos we do a lot more videos like this over the course of the season so thanks as always for tuning in and we'll talk to you all soon
