this football game they win that Labor Day series sweep the Calgary Stampeders who just outright are not a good football team and it's time the stamp Peters are not a good football team cuz they've your thoughts on the game well like you say you know Calgary's been a dominant club and you know you just hate to see them down you hate to see them uh losing in this fashion no you don't no you don't had bad juju I'm going to throw that out there anyone that watched to the end of the kickoff show we had Frank was her name she said her name she said was Frank and I yeah and at the end of the show she just would leave us alone as we were trying to wrap up the show and she's leaning in in front of me to get in the camera and then when J Tre turned in the camera to face her she said no and then after when we finished she offered me a shot like five times five times you want shot you want a shot you want a shot so I I had bad juju there but the Emon El didn't get that bad juju um they had they had actually I'm waiting to see what the official attendance was um but they had virtually a sold out lower bowl and we were worried before the game or you were would that like you no you had a little bit of a scare you you said going in that right this game had the where you were yesterday to today yeah it came down you were a little scared this game had the the makings of being a hiccup game or a look ahead game where you're not focusing on the task at hand thankfully and and that's what I said in the kickoff show is this team is legit this team is a focused team this team is together they ran the ball you know including a couple quarterback runs but 29 times that's a season High uh 29 rushes 213 yards uh I mean at the end of the day you have seven turnover by the Calgary s Peters five interceptions by Logan boner Mike you better win that football game Mike boners at the door uh two turnovers on Downs Edmonton was plus six in the turnover ratio today this stat is just I mean let's face it they've taken advantage of Calgary who is clearly the bottom feeding team in the CFL right now they cannot move the ball uh they had a hard time running it against Eon today and and the defense took advantage of it and that's when those are games yeah let's pad your stats uh Logan boner did not impress me at all um Jak he didn't impress anyone I don't think there's anyone that could be impressed by that perform Jake Mayer must be injured otherwise I don't know how you would justify leaving boner in that long um yeah just a dominant performance I mean I must say though I like it was a little bit of a slow start little bit of a sloppy start NBT could have thrown an interception in the second play of the game uh and then it was a little bit of a back and forth but then purfoy huge interception kind of stopped the bleeding early in the four uh first quarter and then you know things started moving along that second quarter both you and I turned to each other and said you know something to the effect of it was a it was 8 minutes left in quarter two and and they ran like a beautiful draw play like a delayed draw to Kevin Brown up the middle for 14 yds later in that drive it was capped off by a designed end round Run play to K Jones for a touchdown two plays that we've never seen out of this offense and you know very nice to see them expanding that offensive Playbook so no I I I think this was yeah this was just a a dominant game and they stepped on their throats if NBT didn't throw that pick six I mean this is a totally this is a blowout well they still got another touchdown after they did and made it to me that's a blowout 37-6 this is a blowout um I will say this I'm intrigued by the MBT um why he didn't continue in this game to me this leads to you know because we we we mentioned in the kickoff show Murray mccor from the VIP Golf Show last episode of the season goes tomorrow 8:00 right here on Emon Sports talk in the morning um but he's rather connected and he text me yesterday saying he heard from someone um within the organization a source to him that said this team trade for is not 100% healthy that he they will go to straight forward after the upcoming bye the Elks on to buy this week then they get the two Series against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers but he was available should something happen to MBT and if if Murray is right on that and completely then that makes sense MBT got banged up injured and then Trey came in but the flip side is do they did Trey or did MBT just have a little small thing happen they're like ah it's already a blowout we're just going to rest MBT for the rest of the game and throw Trey for it out there um so with what we had ear I'm very intrigued with how backup went um because it didn't look like much for MBT but he looked like he was in a lot of pain looked like some sort of a strain uh maybe like a groin or something in his lower abdomen that that was strained after he threw that interception but Trey came in and and took care of the ball put together you know he did not look like he was still laboring or um in any sort of pain I mean wasn't that beautiful to see that designed quarterback keeper where faked Kevin Brown up the middle and and swiveled and went around the outside that was just a beautiful play that's my other friend oh that's it okay that's what I said that's was 32,000 for the Labor Day rematch uh but it was yeah VR montro kicked off earlier the atmosphere at Commonwealth was electric great crowd the thing is like from last year people were sitting up high as well so it was spread out and it was a great atmosphere I was there but what was it like if you were all in the lower bowl let us know um but also to to this point cuz we had this car I I don't know if it was your brother-in-law who said it or if it was you that said it yeah Tucker was here my brother-in-law but Smith tm14 said I got my ticks tickets for the home game against Winnipeg and what somebody mentioned I did was it you is this going to have some are we going to see full roll sellouts almost for the rest of this the season um the Elks are at home in two weeks huge game they're coming in winners of five of six that right there it's a it's a massive game where if you beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers I want to just pull up my standings here quickly I clicked the BC lines I did not want to do that if you win that game if you're the tin you yeah you'll be there'll be two points back well it's a scat is updated yeah yeah no but if Edmonton's going to get to 10 points right away yeah they forb back of Winnipeg they win that football game they're two byaca Winnipeg for at least second place in the west with a a game in Winnipeg the week after where you would actually move into second in the west depending what happens with the sketch and Rough Riders if you go say AB if you go sweep the Winnipeg Blue Bombers you need to make sure all all for for the Edmonton Elks to be sitting in a a home playoff spot wow would be for Saskatchewan to have lost a game that's it well I me and you you go take care and quite frankly right now like what would you and and I know there's some people that don't want aren't always want everything betting but uh what would you put that spread at right now Edmonton Winnipeg in Edmonton in Edmonton in two weeks I would favor Winnipeg I would say minus 2 and a half right it's it's close yes it's a close football game right now like they're that's an evenly matched game I would say right now as they go up against each other Matt this team can beat and play with any team 100% I mean and and I saw something funny that TSN put on the broadcast right at the end that kind of saying what we've been talking about that even though they started out 0 and7 as we all know they were all close games they were very close like they averaged uh where was the stat here seven losses by a total of 30 points those first seven losses that's an average of 4.28 points per game I mean this team is now but they they are playing better they are playing you know but look at tonight offense you gave them a check right they played well defense how can't you seven takeaways special teams right there's nothing wrong with special teams tonight absolutely nothing wrong with our special teams and and yeah I do like that whoever that was that pointed out the punting of Julian about and with burritos Dave Dave great point because we are so lucky here to watch this guy kick this is just everything is automatic he is not shanked one he has put everything on the money and you know Calgary did a good job of letting a couple of those grow into the end zone and get the the single points um he would probably be upset with that as a hunter two roues that's two points uh but you know this guy's automatic that's huge so all three facets of of the game were running smooth like a well-oiled machine and yeah you win 3716 seems a lot closer than what it probably should have been but uh I I did learn that um boner is not good well or like there's a lot of work that needs to be he's not a starting quarterback not I will at the very least we could say he's not a starting quarterback at this moment in the Canadian football league and Jake Mayer better be hurt otherwise you might as well try Tommy Stevens yeah because one person that I I just saw it uh Jason in the Paris jul inbox another American Gunslinger come up here comes up here and tries to arm throw the passes didn't step into those ints um those picks were just underthrown they weren't good um and the Calgary St peders just overall like their o line couldn't protect that well um they they just entirely the Ed Elks ran Calgary out of commwell Stadium today ooh ooh this is great I wish whoever this is that uh text in here to the Paris Jewelers inbox 7802 899 text back in and and we can put your name up here but this is a great Point uh I was at the game great atmosphere I would like to see them open the upper bowl this is what I want ooh about for $5 to $20 they will get much bigger crowds what's the arm in opening it up because we talked about it earlier they had a huge crowd because they were letting kids in for free open the upper bowl up for cheap cheap cheap tickets well I I I don't know the full economics about this I've had this argument in the past that it's not good economically it's not good devaluing your product a bit are you going to S you going to sell 30,000 more tickets but maybe you offer that for family pricing well they've done 40 bucks you bring or or you know 25 bucks you bring your family I stand by might you don't open up the upper deck for a couple years I don't mind that you build that up there's something there no but the problem is the moment you open up the upper deck you spread out people the moment someone pays for their lower their ticket they're going to start moving to the upper bowl and people aren't going to buy the lower bowl tickets part of this move to the lower bull right now is to build that atmosphere in the lower bll and the moment you go nah we should go do the upper deck back to that well now people are going to like people aren't going to spend money on those lower bowl tickets and they're going to go sit up or high and everything gets spread out and you have 35,000 people spread out across 60,000 seats or 56,000 seats that's the issue with that in my opinion um you keep it lower bow you keep it there there's also the the added cost that it comes where the reason the Elks can open up the upper bowl this week was they didn't know that they were going to get to this number until late this week sure you can't just open up an upper bowl you need staff you need more security for people in the stadium you need ushers you need to plan for the fooding um yeah that's manageable that's pretty easy to do not in a couple days no you're right but listen to this and they've closed the upper bowl for a reason you can't just because you had one good game all be like we're moving back to open up the upper bowl for good no I'm not saying it but as an organization it it would be you'd be silly not to at least consider it and say this and listen they've got two weeks before their next home game so if you as an Elks fan go out and get get your tickets now start start purchasing them give them no option let's say that half the lower bowl is sold out by the end of next week which would be like their second biggest you know what I mean like that's what you that's what it comes you want to if Edmonton you want to open up the upper deck buy ticket buy tickets it's that simple and it I don't think it's going to fully be there the other thing is some people are saying you make money food drinks when you open it up open it up the city actually makes a lot of money if I'm not mistaken on the food the deal doesn't come it doesn't all go to the Elks it's they're not the owners of Commonwealth Stadium and that's part of the issue here for the Elks is that they don't actually get all that money so now you're welcoming people for really cheap well that might actually be less you might not be profiting because of the extra cost that you're doing well you don't make the money in other spots so I I they closed it for a reason and just because we had one game where we were this close you don't just go ah we got to open it up again right now it hasn't been proven that people are going to come in week and week out that it's worth having the upper deck opened once again that you can't do that after one game you got to prove it I'm not saying you have to I'm just saying there is a way to do that and incorporate maybe a you know an expanded knole gang or you know like something where you can make it like the Els will come up with it they got they got it the right team to do that where you can make it something that's more affordable for a family have family sections up there but I do agree with you wholeheartedly and I won't I the section actually right now is lower bowl right but I I get it but the point here and you're correct is to drive the demand up yes and keep it in the lower bowl even for the like say okay for the rest of the year I would say two years don't even sure whatever the timeline is create the demand have a sellout or two where people are oh shoot I can't walk up and buy tickets anymore that's good for business that is really good for business so yes I I agree with you I'm just partially dreaming you know spitballing something here as to ideas to how to you know but listen theyve won five of six mhm this is what happened no absolutely and and if you great it's a great I go back to like and there was a lot of tickets that were given for free today like I think I said Deb uh there was a lot was did she answer no oh okay um that's the voucher or the winner she gives away the ask your name I'm going to ask her your name back um the thing is too there were some free tickets given today cuz kids got in for free if you bought an Adele ticket um the thing I'll say like the banjo bowl that was played today out in Winnipeg was sold out over a month ago yeah if you want to open up the upper bowl a month ago we need to get to that point where we can say in July or August the Elks could sit there and say we're at 25,000 tickets sold for Labor Day rematch already we're opening up the upper deck for that game you can't do it a week or two out in my opinion to build that bus for at least a few years they still need to work on building that buzz and so you want to get that Upper Deck back open I want to see it open again it's a great spot to watch a game you love it I love it spot yeah you got to you got it created as a demand and ultimately it comes down to the the ticket buyers go show the Elks that they they need to open it up uh there's so many I I mean and if you guys are watching uh right now and you you like what you're hearing and and hey let me just say this we we entered into this uh the kickoff show we opened up the postgame show with the most iconic uh handcrafted beatrap made by going on we're going to get run over on our bench but actually you want to know something how many for years how many times did they run that horse behind the visitor's bench I think they've moved it to the home side now but I he used to be behind the visitor's bench down in Calgary McMahon Stadium yeah my wife rode that horse for whole season that was having to go by that bench all the time and that's a small area she ran over a cop screw you Calgary good job Mr Thompson I'm going with Mr Thompson moving forward Mr Thompson for that one for at least for that one for for tonight he is Mr Thompson for doing that like that needs to go if we were on the ball a little bit more as EST and like we're we talked about a lot of merch ideas and things that are coming up I won't say anything but look at is the turnovers total turnovers was seven for Calgary one for Evanson uh if if you look at the time of possession it was 30 minutes 29 minutes uh total first downs 23 for Edmonton 22 for Calgary statistically this was uh you know if you took away the turnover category you'd look at this and say oh wow this must have been a close game but when you're turning over the ball seven times and to to Edmonton's credit they only gave the ball away once that's plus six that's a winning formula Sor I'm I'm trying to get confirmation on something I got some news for the winipeg game but I need to I just want to double check confirmation on that one but hey I mean something for us to discuss right now if you're uh how can't you be happy this is the first time in 20 years that the te hey Maddie let me ask you this I wanted to ask you this earlier what is when's the last time you felt this much energy and positivity and and Good Vibes around this club there was a period last year where they won three or four at this point not as much as this after Labor Day rematch he felt good um but that was also three of four uh and then it went away this is five of six this is five six I I never thought that I would have said like sweeping the Labor Day that's big I don't think after those four games last year I would have said you know if we started the first season right now I'd pick the Elks to be a great cup Contender if we were going to start the season as of next week after everything this was all preseason I'd be taking the Elks as one of the contenders for the great cup that's how good so the last time this would have happened would have probably been sometime in the Years following 2015 great cup maybe it would have been 2015 I was going to say 2015 that's the last time that there was you know this buzz and and you know what I I I just I it's I'm so happy for for the die hards the fans that were there that packed the stadium that got to see that and be a part of that this is this is a fan base that deserves this so much you know like they they really do it's not it's been some pretty dark years uh for a double e fan so kudos to those who stuck together it'd be to in rematch 1817 now it was 1816 now it's 1817 uh so with the chance next year the Elks could get both back or they could tie one and take back the other series which will don't forget Evon has another game against this team yet well actually that's where I wanted to get to is I wanted to look at the rest of the schedule but I got the postgame stat so I get the official attendance now 32144 at the game today wow 32,1 44 um that to me I I was told Evan Dom on the hango 31,000 or whatever was lower bowl Capac that's capacity lowerable round of clicks for the city of Edmonton and Elks Nation Elks fans all there round for that Gino Lewis jersey over there sure I'll do that as well 32,000 144 that is the attendance tonight down at Commonwealth Stadium which just looked like an absolute atmosphere um but like I I'm looking at this Winnipeg series and I'm looking at possible losses right like look if they can go run the rest of the table here how incredible would that be what kind of story would that be but let's say they split against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers just for argument sake MD that's that like besides that in the saskat game the rest are wins well no I'm going to say I look at saskat Calgary Toronto and go those are three wins I can see this team is the Emon Elks are better than the saskat ref Riders the Emon Elks are clearly better than the calary stamp Peters and the Emon El are better than the Toronto Argonauts in fact I if things go well enough this may be crazy to say don't don't don't don't don't do it I won't do I won't do that one you almost did you did it in the post game you're learn what you think I was going to say I don't want to know what you're going to say okay I'll tell you after the show we won't do it on here like this isn't now a must-win sweep of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers had they dropped one of these against Calgary you'd sit there and go you have to sweep this and with where Winnipeg is and how well they're rolling right now as good Ford as the starting quarterback for this team and his and his his speed and I'll say this with Trey Ford as much as I love Trey Ford and as as the president of the Trey Ford fan club I still hope that as long as he's healthy they find a way to possibly mix in an MBT if if he's able to do that if he's the type of quarterback that could come in for just a couple series no you wouldn't no why not prior to that they gave up 11 to the BC Lions the game before that they gave up zero to the BC Lions and then before that they gave up 16 to the Toronto Argonauts but the defense actually I I think only gave up six points in that game I think the offense gave up more in that one the the Winnipeg defense is really good as well um so for somebody like Trey Ford if if he he's getting that start in the end he's got a challenge it's not going to be easy Texas Tech good job good job CS going to into this game they had a 20 the defense was averaging in their last five games 22 points given up that number now goes down as they only allowed 16 points well actually technically we could bring it lower cuz the defense didn't give up seven points true but that's not how it works it does in my fantasy league well that's weird why I hate the other ones no no no no I'm going to get that I when I created myuna the defense are special teams if they are not on the field why should they be why should they be credited with the points they didn't give up if it's a pick six defense didn't give those points up special teams didn't give those points up I hate that about fantasy football with the NFL easily easily tub sock says he can put down 8 to 10 total or pounds pounds I could see that from him because you know what he would just get into a he would settle into a Groove see but now the thing okay here's the thing about those pounds it doesn't take into account the bone part what do you mean well if you weigh the chicken wing it's got bone I'm not eating the bone so I'm actually not consuming 5 lb of chicken nobody said anything about the weight no I know but if it's if I'm going based off of 5 lb I'm actually not eating 5 lbs though so what so I'm going back to 50 I was just okay sure I'm going back up to 50 I that that's 35 but I'm not eating a total of 5 lbs worth of chicken I want to eat 5 lbs worth of chicken I think I could do that so I would have to go I say 15 more wings I could do 50 let me ask you this then he said single Wings is it in the uh is it in the EST budget for us to fly down to Oklahoma City just you and I just you and I just a red eye to Oklahoma you were to look at the the well they usually with that you look at the the yardage that's how they go like if you say the NFL top rank defense is yardage no there's turnovers there's turnover ratio but like if you listen to a broadcast and they say this is the top ranked defense they go based off of yardage what yardage rushing yardage pass yal yard toal yard okay so opposition going into this week um the Elks were the last in terms of Defense 387 yards per game allow they were last they should jump up how many how many yards do they give up today uh they gave up I got to go to week 14 here they gave up 379 yards so it it won't drop much well keep in mind that that average has been dropping throughout the last six games signicantly but also like for that well what's the number one defense then mat the Elks gave up 43 yards and 23 yards in garbage time so that adds to that playing that prevent uh Winnipeg is 324 yards that that's the best yeah so they were what against hor three uh it's about 60 yards different 60 yards average per game difference yes okay yes but that takes into account the whole season right that's then that's the very poor start to I guarantee you if you looked at the past six weeks they are by far in away the number one ranked defense in terms of yardage given up but that stat doesn't matter I I I I don't agree with you that that stat does not include enough enough variables 100% but when you listen to a broadcast or they say this is the top ranked or top ranked offense they maybe that broadcaster doesn't know what they're talking about no that's just like the standard for things it's again whether you agree with it or not that's how when you hear someone say this is top rank defense it's generally based off the yardage at least with broadcasts oh no no Jimmy like Jimmy onishi says uh boneless wings are nuggets yet we are not doing boneless wings no if it's boneless wings then it's less I can't eat 50 boneless wings because it's a full pound per like the entire chicken I'm eating a full weight of that Wing whereas a regular Wing like we're talking chicken wing eating challenge here right and but like if I order a pound of wings here at Sentry not boneless winged or boned in I'm not eating a pound worth of chicken no because the bone would be part of that and you're not allowed to go to the washroom yeah I'm fine with that of six games things are turning up EST and the one loss that they had was a very close game four points to the Montreal aloette only have two losses this season they are trending well they are
