Virginia home to James Madison father of the Constitution and mother of some of the most electric crowds in all of college football when they come out to support the Dukes today a showdown of a couple of foes from the [Music] [Applause] [Music] Sunbelt the kickoff team out there getting set from inside his own 10 let's see he gets just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 so James Madison's offense takes the field for the first time today and as the game evolves into an aerial circus sometimes you find a superstar running back like this guy and when you got this guy you ride this guy you give him the ball you run the football you find ways to continue to feed him because he just gets stronger and better as the game goes on second back to pass it's Morris it's complete to the right and he's almost almost to that first down marker there saying he's a little bit short he might want to bring out the sticks and measure but it looks as if he'll be just short of the first down they'll try to pick it up on the ground that just never had a chance as they controlled the middle of the field and stopped him in the back field on third down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way just needs a crack to get a return and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next drive here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys right here they got a lot of running room and he'll w to the 34 before he's finally knocked down one big play can really flip the script of a drive it's first and 10 from just outside the [Applause] 30 they're going to ride this running back finally run out of bounds but he has his offense rolling with a first down at the 23 yd line and that's a first down used the play fake now to throw going for it all and he's into the end zone for a touchdown really nice job working the route getting himself open he was able to locate the football snag it out of the air and this guy now has five receiving touchdowns on the year now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they finish it off with a touchdown toss from the 23 from inside the 10 here he comes nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 James Madison sends the offense back on to the field quarterback on the keeper knocked down at the 26 after ripping off 10 there and the dudes racing to the line in the hurry up there's an example of the offense taking advantage all the attention the defense is giving this outstanding running back remember he's one of the best in the game they're expecting him to get the football so the quarterback says you know what I'll just keep it no one's keying on me I'm going to get up field and find an explosive play [Music] wide receiver now comes in motion to the air it's Morris quick strike complete really nice stop there from this senior leader balls at the 29 defense can taste getting off the field it's third and long from the gun wants to pass caught over the middle it's Thompson still on his feet he's got the sideline going nuts as he got it down to the 18 yd line the dudes are on the [Music] [Applause] move from the Red Zone looking for a receiver and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming they'll line up for a second down play the throw to the outside is complete they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover to pick up the first back to the air one more time grabbed in the middle it's Ross gets it inside the five down to the FL and it'll be first and roll this offensive scoring position with a fresh set of downs Relentless tough running gets it down to the four second and goal for the offense it's now second and goal tries again to get it in and he's able to bounce off one tackle but still not a whole lot of running room now it's third and goal third and trying to pound their way in and he takes it in by the score touchdown D and I love it I love theity this offense is third and goal I trust my offensive line pave the way give the ball to running back and no he's going to physically punch this thing into the end [Music] zone the8 unit on the [Music] field up right right in half an 84 yd drive there and they close the deal pushing their way inches into the end zone set to advance on the he'll bring it out he's brought down at the 16 would have been much better off to take the touch back let's see what this offense has dialed up this time leaves it with the back he kept those legs moving got three out to the 19 got three on first down at second and seven up they're looking for an advantage in the running game to the right just trucks through it he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense power football with the run and they'll stop him after a minimal pickup after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven softened him up with a run and now he's got it inside the 25 all the way into the end zone for a touchdown and what nice as well design you get your speed to you put him in the slot usually get a better match up and then what do you do you fade him towards that sideline run a go nice ball from way out wide he just runs underneath it and just too much speed couldn't catch him gets in the end zone for six [Music] ling up to tack one more onto that lead and the anything changes you'll see it right here oh and how about that I know Kevin and those guys will be keeping an eye on him for us they go to the draw that one could really put this drive into high gear as they have a first down at the 37 and the Dukes in the hurry [Music] up from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole and after the stop that is going to put a bow on this first quarter brings up second [Applause] down while we're only through one these quarterbacks have been lighting up their stat lines [Applause] [Music] they've switched into the field and we're ready to get things started here in the second split backs here a little free snap eye candy for the defense a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior no huddle offense to the line third coming up on on Third and short they'll go to the power running game the Dukes will move the sticks here comes the offense on First and 10 from the 47 he wants to throw got it in the middle it's Hudson he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down offense gets set for second down [Applause] he'll pull it on the read he's brought down at the 41 yd line it's a pick up of five and up for a first down and the dupes come to the line with a new set of [Applause] downs off play action on first down he looks that one in nicely and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium from the gun the running back has it they get him down but he does pick up three to the 32 yd line after the last run could you just give it to him again on third [Music] down quick pass to the left trying to get it to the marker now well within Striking Distance as that third down play gets him a first at the 29 dropping back it's Morris looking to the big tight end got his man all by himself and he'll take it in and house it touchdown James Pon you know what methus live 969 years he was born and died in the amount of time it took them to walk it down the field and score that touchdown that's just so frustrating play after play after play you line up you try to do your assignment and you fail in they cap it off with a touchdown oh ring up to add another kicker on for the extra point splits the upright 76 yds on the drive for the touchdown and they cover the final 29 yds with that touchdown pass kick here's the return from inside is 10 able to find enough room to get it out across the 25 he's brought down at the 26 they'll get this drive started from their own 26 wants to throw on first down fires to the tight end a most efficient pick up of six on first down it's second and four I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job form tackle this offense has a second down [Applause] play they'll go to the ground slams ahead for a yard out the 33 now on third down after that run it's third down [Applause] they'll try to pick up the first through the air quickly complete third and he'll get it up to the 38 it'll be a first down and now a fresh set of downs for this offense that's a first down for the offense the give to the bat and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down [Applause] might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again across the 25 he's got room he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down from the Red Zone he's going to throw it catch in the middle it's Richmond they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker brings up second on second down he'll fire got rid of it just in time he just tossed that one out of bounds you avoid the sack you avoid the turnover you've got more plays here on third down from the gun wants to pass into the end zone he's got it touchdown and I just love the execution by this offense late in the half man you want to take the lead you want to get that momentum on your side and they do it they f finish it with the passing game and tell you what keep that passing game up keep this lead keep the momentum and keep putting up numbers and it looks as if they've buzzed down replay wants to have another peek at that last play after taking another look just to confirm everything the officials on the field got it right way will stand and with the extra point the score is now 21 to 14 they put together a 74 yd touchdown drive and the four comes on a 12yd touchdown pass and he'll just take a knee and this drive will start at the 25 guys James Madison ready to go back on the attack the way this game started you feel as if you have to score a touchdown every time and the quarterback is knocked down back at the 13 there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer looking downfield it's Morris got his man downfield and they'll do more than move the chains they'll move that thing more than 30 yd down the field before he finally stopped we got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break and his throw is incomplete and now on second down for this offense after the incompletion back to the passing game quickly out to the tight end about to get to the line quickly for this third down play a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game and a lot of different and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes timeout called here by the defense it's their first of the half the Dukes send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away was looking for more Running Room but found nothing but more tacklers he's down for 24 the offense lining up for a first down play looking to move it through the air spins away from the defender the offense waste no time getting the timeout call you know sometimes even a short game like that can be used to set up something bigger later on no doubt Rees they can pump that and take a shot down on the field and don't worry they're going to go back to that same play cuz they know this guy with the ball in his hands is dangerous he makes one guy Miss he can take it to the house quick timeout from the offense to save precious seconds passing game very effective on second down what about here on [Applause] third he'll just throw it away and it'll be fourth down and here comes the punt team hauls it in looking for space and he's going to get it up to about the 29 yd line before he's brought down just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime from the shot gun they'll run it Bulls his way forward finding a way to put that foot in the ground and get it up to the 37 yd line quick timeout call by the offense after the play dropping back it's Morris he puts a lot of air under it down the sideline B it inside the 10 boy he almost finished his half with a bang and are they lucky to get him stopped they're eager to head to that dressing room right now [Applause] that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with a halftime update Ellas you've had yourselves a great broadcast so far today in Harrisonburg and we have to start this halftime breakdown by addressing the play of this Elite wide receiver this is clearly a young man who once he's finished playing on Saturdays he's going to be playing on Sundays the kid has different gears he has a knack for finding gaps in the defense and I can't remember a and they desperately wanted to attempt a return but decided not to instead they'll take the Touchback they'll keep it on the ground to start the second half crosses the 30 to the 31 A6 yd gain got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four they think they can impose their will here with the run to the right he'll be stopped at the 41 but give him 10 on that play the offense lines up at the 41 with a first and 10 from the gun they'll try to impose their will sweet cut there and listen if it ain't broke don't fix it I I mean I love teams that commit to the run and when it's successful keep running the rock yeah David I think this offensive line right now they've got a lather going they're really sort of getting in the groove and flow of this game they're just getting tremendous push at the point of attack it seems like every single time they decide to run the ball on the run it's Morris and a nice run there before the defense finally makes the stop trying to pick up a first down they'll run for it on Third and short he works his way inside the 30 down to the 29 and picks up a first down this drive has been exclusively on the ground could they be setting up a shot play got it on the outside it's Moore and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play at the from the gun running back on the move they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one balls out the 25 they're in field goal range but they'd love to convert this third and short gets it out fast he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down new set of downs after completion the give to the left you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six defense has to be frustrated the offense keeps matriculating and matriculating and matriculating the ball down the field grab near the marker it's Moore and it's in for a touchdown you want to keep your offense on the field wear down the defense put that tape on and show it in the clinic that's the way it's done and as a defense man there's nothing more demoralizing you can handle it when you give up three but to give up the touchdown at the end of the long drive you're already exhausted you've already been bued the whole way down the field man that's [Music] frustrating they'll try to add another to their [Music] [Applause] lead and the extra point will couple to the 22 the Dukes are in the hurry up back throw it's Morris and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down and the Dukes will punt this one away he's going to try to flip the field with this [Applause] one it at the 35 that's a perfect not settling for a catch pick up every y you can and help out the offense they'll leave it with him they pick up half of it it'll be second and five when with the running game on first down now back at it out of the gun the give to the back one step WRA Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again got his man quickly now with a great opportunity as they pick up the first down they've got it at the 40 a new set of downs after the completion looking for a crease it's Morris and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out after the productive first down play it's second and [Applause] six he's the throw fires to the wide out reacted well to the tip but just couldn't squeeze the football instead of to turnover it'll be third down looking to throw trying to get to it pressure is effective from the defense they knock him down just behind the Midfield stri at the 48 man that's a great example of kyp know your personnel a QB that doesn't run great trying to get outside the pocket nice job by the defense applying pressure and running him down and getting the huge loss the punt team makes its way onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away making sure there's no return on that one as the punt sails out of bounds James Madison sends the offense back onto the field boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah they a bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath start playing like a unit on this dve they'll run it from the gun and the defense makes the stop after a minimal gain he's got three on first down at trying to slow that Rush down with the draw he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of down they've moved to the 16 it's first and [Music] 10 from the Red Zone looking for a space he's got his man this quarterback right now and he's doing a nice job in PRN he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right now hand off from the gun he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage High quarters deep in the Red Zone but they can't pick up a first down without scoring third down looking to throw it's moris fires into the end zone and he was trying to pay off this Red Zone opportunity but it's incomplete down by multiple possessions they can't come up empty on this drive in the fourth quarter he snares it in the end zone play in the game and the confidence is building if only there's enough time to finish time is ticking but man you gave yourself a chance now now the defense go out do your job we got the moment if you give me the ball back I'm going to win let's go [Music] defense getting set for the point after and the extra point cuts the lead to seven 28-21 they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they cap things off with a 9yd touchdown pass from inside the 15 chance for a good return and the coverage team able to wrestle him down here comes the offense on first [Applause] down they'll keep it on the ground the clock is on their side at the 40 there he goes and that was a huge run that almost went to the house the defense kept him from scoring and I think if you're the head coach defensively now obviously you've got three timeouts in your back pocket you're trailing at this point and the offense is going to be running the football trying to bleed the clock they're going to take as much time off the game clock as they can before snapping it you've got to start thinking about using some of those timeouts [Applause] they'll ride the hot hand and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up went to the running game on first down now here they come again we have arrived at the two-minute warning a one possession in game as this offense tries to hold on using his legs it's Morris he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense he's got it again nowhere to run on that one he loses defense uses the timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and Preserve time for their offense and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with this foot no good and the margin remains at seven after the Miss well the last drive just carved him up in the air David yeah and how about that quarterback you gave him the ball and he delivered the goods great job taking apart the defense Jesse on that last you really did that was a master class in just reading coverage and being active to the air it's Morris he's got an open man just carving up this defense and getting it down to the 24 big drive for this offense late trying to tie the game they pieced together a first downs and here they come again and that's a mistake you don't expect to see from a senior and he is lucky to get it back couldn't connect on first down now second and 10 from the 24 after the incompletion they go back up top this senior quarterback a little too bold there and he's lucky he didn't get picked off throwing into double [Applause] coverage on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it it's caught and after the pickup gets to the sidelines to stop the clock and keep this drive going as they try to save themselves [Applause] late a first down run in the red zone and he runs it in for the score touchdown J V great job with and listen right here at this point of the game there's still going to be time laps my defense is going to have to make a stand regardless I'm going to kick the extra point cuz the field goal still beats me if I go for a two-point [Music] conversion on to attempt the try and that extra point was good and we are Deadlock here in the fourth we check in with Kevin Connors what's going on Kevin a bit of an under the radar game this week guys but take a look at this New Mexico is down big on the scoreboard and for a program that traditionally struggles to score I think we know where this one is headed they're trailing by 20 to Fresno State your boy KC has you covered here in studio guys in case anything changes in this one thanks for the update on that one Kevin let us know when it goes final down just couldn't find an open man he'll get rid of it and it'll be second [Applause] down and it'll be incomplete this defense is has deep third down conversion always a huge stat and they've got a third and long from the 27 from the gun wants to pass wide open downfield and he was loose and not stopped until he gets to the 47 yd line we you got a Time on the field and we are set up for a terrific finish TI ball put it up from Brandon I thought he had it but somehow it slithered through his fingers looking to throw on second down he's got him this time he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down out of Bounds at the G on the inside and you get hatch around this dude he LS decrease he's down to the 27 the defense calls a timeout and that's their last one of the half right back to the well and he's knocked down but not before moving the chains snap's going to come from the 23 on First and 10 leaves it with the running back all tied up this offensive line they want the pressure they want everything to go through them here they're saying look let's just run the ball let's get this thing down closer and closer to the goal line let's bleed some clock and put ourselves into position to win going to the run it's Morris tackle is made after the first down they'll have to settle for a field goal attempt oh that one will leave a mark no good after that that Bale field goal attempt Spas still tie ball [Music] game well guys let play some more headed to overtime this just feels right both of these teams going back and forth so of course David this thing needs to get decided in OT let's see who's better short amount of time to do it a couple possessions probably maybe one possession each who's the better team all right guys so here we go overtime and just refresh everyone's memory alternating possessions starting on the opponent's 25 and it's so nice to be on defense first to to set the tone to understand what you need try to hold them to a field goal the offense knows they can do their job to go out and get a win just two possessions Palmer like you got to be at your best because the third overtime possession goes to alternating two-point plays back and forth who's got anything left in the tank here in [Applause] ot looking to go up top on first down he's right on target they made the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down from the gun give on the inside they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one quarterback stands alone all wide receivers looking to throw it's Morris snags it over the middle he'll be brought down at the three yd line an explosive play in the [Applause] pass he'll do it himself he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and lost ground on first down now second and goal from the five quarterback on the keeper he's behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss three room to work with here on Third and goal in overtime he just about had the pick and what a play that would have been an overtime but it brings up fourth down so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot strike first and take the lead by threee and overtime down by three it's their turn here in overtime a touchdown will win it here's first down to the ground with the [Applause] back he's all the way down to the three all on that run near the three on five and first a touchdown in the game here in overtime it's first and goal barrels ahead and he is stopped not getting close to the end zone line of scrimmage still at the three quarterback wants to throw on second [Applause] down and the celebration is have a day young fell I foresee some social media posts in his future not one not two for three receiving touchdowns on the day what a ball game my pulse rate is still through the roof on this game I would have called that one for free wait I don't want to get carried away there but it was a really fun game and a great win it really was I know we're all up here we bouncing around we're excited after having seen what we just saw what a great win for this team to go out and do it overtime that's the type of game that fans are going to be talking about for a long and thank you again for joining us
