What is 'corn sweat'? A meteorologist explains why corn can make it feel hotter

hi YouTube I'm Riley Fon with krcg 13 and today I want to talk to you about this recent stretch of hot and humid weather we've seen across a large portion of the Midwest now of course we can say thank you to Mother Nature in the ongoing weather pattern for why the temperatures are so high but the humidity well it's not entirely Mother Nature's fault and you may be wondering why am I standing in front of a field of corn to say that well it's actually because this corn the most common egg product in the United States where on average over 90 million Acres of it is planted every single year can actually contribute to the intense humidity we feel during these hot and humid summer months why well it's a process called evapo transpiration what that means in layman's terms is corn sweat yeah corn does sweat not so much like us humans do but corn soaks up the moisture from the soil and it can release it back into the atmosphere as water vapor take this into account a 1 acre field of mature corn per day can produce three to 4,000 gallons of extra water in the environment 3 to 4,000 gallons every single day so during these hot and humid summer months like here in August we can't just say thank you to Mother Nature for these warm and muggy stretches we also have to give a shout out to this number one a product corn
