hi everyone it's Dawn and I hope you're having a fantastic day um it's not a great news story today I'm going to get that right out of the way it's a very tragic story as a 12-year-old has fallen from a cruise [Music] ship we we've now learned that as the harmony of the Seas has returned to Galveston that passengers were told on board that they had to sorry the passengers about to board the ship for embarcation were informed that there will be a delay because they were launching an investigation into something that happened an incident on the ship and we have now learned what that incident was it seems that a 12-year-old boy was playing with his friends um on the balconies the balconies are not Ocean View balconies they are inside Ocean View balconies sorry inside outside balconies overlooking Central Park the area that's all fitted with trees they have some restaurants some bars down below uh apparently he fell from the 14th deck where his cabin stateroom was to The Atrium level where you would walk around that's on Deck eight down below so six stories roughly 10 feet per story that 60 feet um crew immediately went in action tried to recuperate the boy resuscitate him but unfortunately uh he passed away before they were able to either get medical airlift or even dock back and un you know send them to hospital um the medical staff did all they could but as you can imagine when you fall 60 ft on the hard surface uh especially a underdeveloped yet you know 12-year-old not fully muscled and strength and Etc it's just one of those stories that you go on vacation and something like this tragically happens and you know it's unfortunately it's not something that couldn't have been avoided and that's the real sad point in all this that you know it was due to something obviously that they were doing on the balcony you you can't just topple over a balcony they're up here on your level so if they're horsing around and lifting each other up or jumping up onto a chair or sitting up on the balcony or trying to climb from one all kinds of things can happen especially with youngsters who think they are indestructible um I know as a teenager I thought I could do anything and never have any consequences as far as injuring myself or anything like that right as a youngster you drive much faster than you drive now you go skydiving you go ziplining you do all kinds of things that you probably won't do in your 50s and 60s and 70s because you feel a lot you know more indestructible you you feel full of life and unfortunately uh in this situation something happened and we've lost we know he was traveling on board with family at least two sisters were on board with him as well so again the condolences to the family uh this is a tragic story and when something like this happens it it's you look around and you try and say what could you have done different but you don't know right I you don't expect your child would get up onto a balcony you you know 12-year-old is you know has Common Sense usually and they were just playing probably and just did something on the spur of the moment and it happened so again uh condolences not only to the family and friends that are on board but also to the other passengers who actually witness this from other balconies as it happened as well as the crew members who tried to resuscitate him that hits very very hard especially when it's a young young person on board and you know a total accident and you you really can really affect people I know a lot of First Responders out there who when this happens to them and they do their best and it can affect them for weeks and weeks if not years after a fact and I do I do feel for them because uh they actually they they are putting themselves there and they feel like it's their responsibility to save the person and when they don't it hits them really really hard so please know that we know you did your best and uh condolences to everybody involved in this very tragic situation and a warning out there to everybody remember to let your kids know if you have a balcony cabin no matter how old your children are let them know of the dangers tell them of this story warn them of this story of what can happen from something as simple as playing around with your friends can end in such a tragic way if you're not careful when we're on vacation we tend to just let things go and just go and have fun and think nothing can happen and that's when actually the worst things can possibly happen well I do hope you appreciate at least the news update I'm am going live tonight Tony's going to join me as well and uh I'm sure we'll have lots of questions about stuff like this as well as some things that's coming up in the near future and I hope it's a a much lighter topic tonight than this one and again condolences to the crew and especially the family involved
