we are taking a live look at Paris right now where the Paralympics continue in just a few hours tonight we have an exciting update about an athlete with local ties that we've been following in the swimming competition but first a little background so Ali Truitt is the woman who lost part of her leg in a shark attack last summer she was a college on on a college graduation trip to Turks and cost when it happened even though she was still reing from that traumatic event she turned her pain into purpose she had competed on the swim team at Yale and so she started training for the par Olympics and made Team USA we took a particular interest in her story because she has family right here in Savannah her Aunt Amy Bradley there is a well-known tennis pro who even appeared on wsav during the last Olympics to add some context to the tennis competition now fast forward to today D your marks Alli Truitt made the final in the 400 individual medley in the S10 classific not only did she make the final but the 24-year-old LED for much of the race against a very experienced swimmer from Canada the 400 IM is the one where you do a different swimming stroke each 100 meters it is one of the hardest events in swimming she had tons of support as you saw about 60 of her family and friends were watching in the arena in the end she earned a silver medal and she is grateful it's honestly it's a real moment right now and I feel really really grateful to be able to contribute to team USA's medal count because what I've achieved is on the shoulders of truly so much support from everyone around the country and that's what's gotten me to where I am today now she's competing in another event tomorrow today actually the 100 meter backstroke the prelims are at 4 this morning if she advances to the final that will be at noon you can watch both on the NBC streaming service peacock
