Biden Harris campaign National co-chair so welcome congresswoman it's great to see you so Texas actually was Ground Zero on abortion restrictions saw with Wendy Davis and all those protests for years before you know before dos yeah and now what Chuck Todd was just saying as you were walking in was that there was a a comma Harris on the abortion issue is so different than Joe Biden because unlike other men he just is of a generation and of a background that he was never comfortable talking about abortion and certainly not with the empathy of his vice president yeah well this is an issue that the vice president has always taken um as hers this is something that she was out on the campaign Trail making sure um that women felt comfortable with this Administration going forward knowing that they would fight to preserve their rights and when you talk about Texas being Ground Zero it wasn't that Texas was Ground Zero Texas still is Ground Zero in January the Republicans in Texas plan to introduce a measure to actually bring about the death penalty as it relates to abortion so unlike what Donald Trump said which we know he's a liar um alternative facts whatever you want to call it we did not want the do's decision to take place we did not want the overturning of row and what is so sad to me as a Texan is that roow v Wade is a Dallas Texas case Henry Wade was the district attorney right there in my district and so here it is Texas has a rich history of giving women their rights and now Texas history is actually going the other way and so when the Vice President says we won't go back that's exactly what she means we won't go back to these repressive policies that they are trying to push on us and just so Donald Trump knows in case he doesn't not every state has an opportunity to actually put this to a vote because if Texas could we would but we don't have that opportunity interestingly Joe Biden today tweeted out with it we won't go back yeah picking up her phrase so he is all in yeah uh which is significant it is and the way he eased her way to the nomination she couldn't have had it that easily without a cont contct no without a challenge rather if he hadn't jumped in no he's been phenomenal um you know another thing that Trump said that I thought was funny was that um President Biden doesn't even like her was like where is this coming from like he just talks out the side of his mouth you can tell they actually have a real affection for one another number one they've actually been on the trail together you've seen their interactions you've seen them embrace one another um and she calls him family they are a family unlike JD Vance and Donald Trump who's like oh yeah well we haven't talked about this how is it that you are trying to assure American women that you are going to be the best Administration for them and you failed to talk to your Vice Presidential nominee about the issue of abortion that makes no sense so either you're lying to us and you actually did talk to him or you just are making up something else again well there was another moment like that where he was pressing her on healthc care and then when she asked him where his plan is he said well we have a concept uh I want to ask you about Donald Trump's false claim last night that immigrants Asian immigrants are eating people's dogs and cats in Ohio it was a conspiracy theory it's not true I asked Republican Congressman Byron Donald's about that who was a key key s surrogate you know for Donald Trump in the spin room I want to get your reaction on the other side what did you think Congressman seriously about him saying that pets are being eaten by immigrants I don't even care about that it's it's shouldn't people worry about these things I I I want to be clear on this that is a very minor minor issue happening in the United States it's it's not happening that's the point can I can we let me let me finish it's not happening would you let me finish I mean let me just ask you to react uh first of all it's it's it's really disappointing specifically to see Byron Donald's um not just go ahead and say I'm not sure if the former president was confused or what considering the fact that Byron Donald's represents Florida Florida potentially has the largest population of Haitian Americans and the fact that he would not just say he may have been confused about a story because there's a different story that doesn't have any anything to do with migrants whatsoever he could have potentially tried to do that but instead they just are trying to glaze over it Donald Trump looked unhinged as we know he is as he stood up there and made up lies and then he went off on these crazy fantasies pretending as if even if there had been one person that had done that why would you attribute an entire group of immigrants to potentially going out and stealing everybody's dogs and cat and eating them like that's just insane joining us now Democratic Congressman of California Robert Garcia National co-chair of the Harris campaign he was in the spin room for the vice president last night it's good to see you once again so let's talk about that criticism that Biden Harris didn't fix immigration in the past three and a half years that people three and a half years later are still feeling unhappy with the economy because you know this poll suggests voters think Trump would do a better job on both of those critical issues so did he land at least those punches I don't think Donald Trump landed a single punch in that debate I mean he was saying strange comments on the immigration issue he's talking about immigrants eating pets uh he was barely coherent the entire time and um KLA Harris kept him on the defensive and I think if you look at all of the reaction from the debate whether it's from his Maga base or any of the polls we've seen with independent voters and swing state voters everyone agrees that that KLA Harris won the debate now it's important this is also a new campaign she's been obviously the Presidential nominee um what not even two months and so she'll continue to talk about issues around immigration issues around the economy but it's been KLA Harris and the Biden Administration that has had a bipartisan border and immigration deal in front of the congress with the support of Republican Senators that Donald Trump has tanked in the Congress because he wanted the administration to get zero credit so the person that actually wants to do nothing on securing the Border or actually any type of immigration plan has been Donald Trump he just wants to talk about it and demonize immigrants and so KLA Harris uh Tim WS they have a plan they're talking about it and she had a great night on these issues last night so look you were in the spin room but I'm sure you were also watching things for example like Fox News the reviews have been just as you said largely with the exception of Donald Trump's review you saying she won the momentum has definitely been wi with her the buzz has been win with her the money has been with her significantly but the polls seem to have stalled so what's going to move them do you think the debate is going to move them or what's the plan moving forward I mean look I think if you look at the at the polling um she has continued to move in the right direction I mean all the polling has gone in a positive direction for for her and she had some ground to make up especially in the swing States and so she continues to hit every single Mark that the campaign sets out Breaking All the Grassroots funding the volunteers the energy and absolutely the debate she did what she needed to do which is keep Donald Trump on the defensive and so um I think you're already seeing uh energy you saw a historic amount of fundraising again happen last night uh historic numbers and so of course the debate is going to help and continue to move those numbers in the right direction but I want to caution folks the vice president herself has said this is going to be a close election and that we are running an underdog campaign that is still the way we are running this race we have got to work hard every single day and that's the way that we win we we cannot assume that somehow we are in the lead this is going to be a close election so clearly you have a strategy in place it's a strategy you you and the other folks in the campaign that we've had on have been consistent in talking about big piece of that being the unprecedented investment the number of offices you have in those Battleground States but let me talk about two things specifically from last night one is the great reviews so there's a certain amount of momentum about that right the second is I don't know if you heard there was this endorsement by um this pop star named Taylor Swift is there a way that that the campaign adjusts its strategy whether it's those reviews or whether it's that endorsement and and you use them to Target specific voter groups or use them to message I mean absolutely I think first what happened last night I'm seeing just positive reaction all over social media Tik Tok spaces where young people are having discussions it was widely um applauded Us by everyone and so I think that the debate uh her being able to put him on the defensive was important one great at you know misdirection right he he can somehow change the subject and uh people follow him to the craziness the reality is that kamla Harris managed to stay on message yep she pointed out the lies but she managed nevertheless to you know keep that to a minimum and get back to the question of what's she going to do to help people buy a home what's she going to do to put money back into young family's uh pocketbook so that they can afford to have a family what's she going to do to lower prices in the United States so I I I think she did a terrific job and I I must say she so far exceeded expectations and frankly I I don't know if he met or you know came below what I thought were kind of you know medium expectations for him but either way I talked to my son this morning who's in college uh and we both agreed that you know the differential was so huge that you can't help but think that there were voters who really moved maybe they just moveed to undecided from be leaning Trump maybe they move from undecided to leaning toward KLA Harris or I think many people moved to KLA Harris because she got they got to know her in that 90 minutes that's certainly what the day just showed to the focus groups people with dials on both sides is I think all of you should move over here and all of you should move over there because you all are sitting on the wrong sides this is right and that is left [Applause] for years insurance companies could discriminate against you [Applause] because folks Trump is getting absolutely lambasted in the first events after his debate not only events with crowds booing him but also just the media because you know the more important than debate sometimes is like the spin afterwards that applies both in debates where it's close we've had debates historically where it's not exactly clear who won right there were debates like that um where both sides made some good points both sides had a couple mistakes and then really the winnner is determined by the media uh you know surrogates afterwards but also in this case when it's such a such a shellacking against Donald Trump kamla uh kick kicked his butt up and down um Fifth Avenue right uh in that case it's also about really establishing momentum and Democrats are sending out the a team again this is another Advantage the Democrats have is that on bad Knights your spokes people can help mitigate damage but they can also help maximize it against your opponent when they have bad Knights who does Trump have as surrogates they're all insane people talking about dogs and cats getting eaten and stuff it's insane stuff whereas Democrats they send out whether it's young rookie members of Congress or whether it's some of the most accomplished Governors whether it's moderate Republicans or whether it's stalwart progressives like AOC Bernie and Warren they got the whole gamut and you're seeing that on nights like today like last night and into today the booze against Trump are more effective because the people can magnify the attention and
