and Jay with you and with the ners Brandon auk signing that long-term extension now all the attention turns to bangal Star Jamar Chase entering his fourth NFL season for the most part has been with the team but not participating in practice the proverbial hold in on August 13th however he was not present when the team was practicing he did return the next day and then things seem to be trending in the right direction to start this week he participated in some light practices for the first time Sunday and Monday and as head coach Zack Taylor said on Tuesday the plan will be to continue to practice with him but oh no on Wednesday less than 24 hours after that chase walks into the team's indoor practice bubble and he is not in uniform did not participate in any of the practice did not speak to reporters afterwards uh I think calling this a saga is highly appropriate uh but here to parse through the twist C senior NFL writer Jeremy Fowler where do we stand here now just 9 days before the season opener well Hannah the people I'm talking to believe that this has a decent chance to get done long-term extension over the next few days trying to get him back into the practice fold around Monday to start week one so the hangup is the guaranteed money some of those things they have to hash out that's usually the case with these kind of things but he should be in that upper tier that CD lamb Justin Jefferson type of money well above $30 million per year the Bengals know that so they're trying and and it's one of the things with since he has two years left on his contract before he hits for agency the Bengals are trying to exercise that leverage best they can but this is a case where Jamar Chase went out to the practice field did some light individual work and then he said hold on we're going to pump the brakes here cuz you guys are getting maybe too comfortable this is not quite close to done but the Bengals are really trying here they trying to get to the Finish Line interesting I mean not only that they can pick up a with your option they could franchise him and so forth but really the right thing to do is is get this deal done got another unhappy receiver who a tag two in the room can't have them all unhappy um and he's 24 years old it's hard to imagine him really sitting out a season or or doing anything like that all right U meanwhile to the guys who are holding out and definitely at a much more advanced age we have Trent Williams so critical uh to the ners and we have H reic this crazy deal traded to the Jets hasn't even been in the building what are you hearing about both and let's start with Williams well with Williams this one's complicated because the people I've talked to that I trust are saying look he's upset like he's legitimately not happy and could stay away a little longer this is not a negotiating play he's made $150 million in his career you know he's he knows that they need him he's the fourth highest paid left tackle but he's clearly the best left tackle so I was told pretty flatly without guaranteed structure in his contract with more security this year then he's not going to be available now we'll see when things get closer but it's not looking good week one they're going to try to Hash this out in the next few days though now they got brand auk done Hassan reic with the Jets the Jets have made this is clear publicly and privately like we are waiting your arrival there have been no firm contract talks I just checked on the matter I was told no updates and so it's up to him whether he's going to show up or if he's going to sacrifice his 14 plus million doll salary this year if he doesn't play this year then his contract will toll next year the Jets will own his rights in 2025 so it's complicated New York has seemed to have taken the stance we like hey maybe we can do a long-term deal but we need you here first and he's like not so fast I'm going to wait this out but somebody's got a cave in the next few days cuz there hasn't been a lot of progress we at least with Trent Williams they have been talking they're hopeful to get something done I think of like when they open the season the Chiefs last year without Chris Jones and what that looked like and then they got that deal done really quickly you kind of figure like Trent Williams like just sit out a game and see what the ners look like against that Jets defense right the Jets do have a first- round pick from last year will McDonald who's been replacing them they feel like he's turning a corner he's tried to gain a little more weight he's got some third round pass rush ability so it really depends on how comfortable the Jets are with him that parallel you talking about the Jets and H reic I was talking about Williams and the ners yeah for sure but at least with the Jets they feel like McDonald if he can hold the Ford and be maybe 80% of what reic does really maybe they'll wait this out even further really but he's been playing well they like him okay but it's hard to imagine the Niners going a season without Williams I'm just saying that would be shocking that's why they're going to try to hat it out it would be rock pretty line one please get this done rhead should Prevail for sure Jeremy thanks Back to Football now Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is coming off a second MVP season uh but one that ended with a loss to the Chiefs in the AFC title game uh this year their season begins in Kansas City Baltimore facing a KC team led by three-time Super Bowl champ Patrick Mahomes of course and a squad looking to win an unprecedented third straight Lombardi trophy here's what Andy Reid had to say today with the opener less than a week away new on Sports Center we look forward to this challenge of playing the Ravens it's uh it's a they're a heck of a football team John does a a great job along with his coaches uh preparing their guys and you know we know that it it'll be a a Battle Royal I me it's one of those games and we've played over the years and it's it's always a knockdown drag out so this won't be any different great way to kick off the season a reed and the Chiefs have some history on their side in Thursday night's opener this is the fourth time the Super Bowl champ takes on the reigning League MVP in each of the team's season openers the Super Bowl winning team did win each of the previous three games he is back but now we are going to open the F files with our senior NFL writer Jeremy Fowler so listen we know Patrick Mahomes oh there's cu the music the scary music he's playing behind one of the best o lines in football we saw Creed Humphrey become the highest paid Center in the NFL last week Trey Smith he's looking to get paid too so take us through the latest heading into week one yeah so the Chiefs would love to pair Creed Humphrey with Trey Smith longterm to protect Patrick Mahomes for the next five to six years the problem is the Chiefs only have about close to $7 million in cap space Trey Smith would take a fortune to pay because if he gets the free agency in March he going to be really hard for Kansas City to keep based on what guards are making on that open market so possibly they could try I don't sense a lot of money being thrown around right there right now in Kansas City because they gave Humphrey money they paid their kicker Harrison buter but they have a young nucleus they're going to at least try to keep in the next few months you got Nick Balton the star linebacker as well hitting for agency in March Mike McDaniel according to our Jeff Darlington gets a three-year extension this is clearly linked to Tua tag of ioa McDaniel believes wholly In Tua they are sort of a package deal so Tu is under contract for the next 5 years now Mike McDaniel under contract for the next 5 years that is no coincidence but I'm told the Dolphins love the way McDaniel has coalesced with the entire organization the energy in the decision making is really good so they want to keep a good times rolling and try to get some wins and you got the Pittsburgh Steelers that were waiting out that Brandon iuk situation but I've sensed for weeks that the Steelers were not overly optimistic that a trade with San Francisco for auk was going to take place even though they had parameters intact they had the contract ready to go they just thought all along that San Francisco was going to get that deal done which they did and so now the Steelers have to Pivot from what I'm told their options are somewhat scarce but they' have van Jefferson who they sign him for agency they're going to essentially Elevate him to the wide receiver two roll I really like the training camp in the preseason that he's had you have some other options Pat F the tight end is going to get a lot of pass love him pick is clearly their number one so my sense is they're going to make do while they comb the market see what else might be available Denver's Courtland Sutton is a player that a lot of teams have checked on San Francisco Baltimore Pittsburgh over the last year have all checked on him but they have not been willing to deal him so there's not a clear-cut receiver right now who's available so this are just going to have to monitor and hope for the best interesting got paid Dak Prescott still a free agent at the end of the season and with a no trade clause and he offered some perspective on his new deal not getting done you don't need a deal done before the season uh I don't need a no no do you what you like it done before the season uh I think it says a lot if it is or if it isn't um but however doesn't doesn't really matter to me to be honest with you what does it say if it is just how people feel Jerry said that negotiation isn't about your Merit as the Cowboys quarterback but more about their cap situation what do you take from that when he says you know it's not really about what you're doing yeah I understand that that's the business and the nature of this this game that we play um uh yeah I mean I stopped honestly listening to things that he says to the media a long time ago so um doesn't really hold weight with me uh Cowboys reporter Todd Archer joins us now at the very latest Todd you're with this team every day you know them better than anybody else all the subtleties that come along with the Cowboys and while it appears sort of on the surface that Dak has being critical of Derry Jones what kind of perspective can you offer about his comments and where the situation is right now yeah Hannah I will say this Dak has been around Jerry a while right he knows the Jerry isms he was here for zou in 2019 when ezek Elli was holding out he was here just a couple weeks ago when Jerry said there was no urgency to get a CD lamb deal done so he understands the process and what matters most is what Jerry's telling him not what he's telling us and the two have had Direct conversations throughout this process so he knows what Jerry is telling him doesn't care what he's saying to us and now you're in a situation where can this get done before the season opener against the Browns I remind everybody that it took a couple years for the Cowboys and Todd France to come to an agreement on dax's current deal now we're down to a matter of days but this this is a situation where there is some optimism Dak told us in Oxnard that he believes the conversations are going in the right direction neither side has said they will breakoff talks if they don't have a deal done by the time the Cowboys play the Browns and both sides there's reasons to get this done the Cowboys if he's not on the team next year a they don't have a quarterback B he counts 40 million against their cap and while Dak has said that he has opened the possibility of him leaving noting that guys that he watch growing up like pton Manning and Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers go up elsewhere he's consistently said he wants to be a cowboy so as much as this is a cowboy's decision this is also a Dak Prescott decision too yeah and and maybe as you say it's not a matter of days until the season opener but it is definitely a matter of months because he can become a free agent on March 12th so something has to happen before then U Mike McCarthy's contract up as well after the season never a dull moment for you Todd Archer thanks all right Hannah let's bring in our NFL Mina Kim Mina Dak says it says a lot if a deal does or doesn't get done what does that comment say to you um to me it just say Dak Prescott knows how much leverage he has in the situation it's also why I think he made that joke about Jerry Jones talking to the media and not putting a lot of weight in it uh this is a quarterback who has gotten to this point now several times over this course of his career it's very unusual in the NFL to see quarterbacks who are this successful actually reach free agency or come on the cusp of it as he has with Dallas in the past and Dak has shown he is comfortable playing that contract year potentially risking injury to reach a Payday that frankly will be something we haven't seen before because we have not seen a quarterback of his stature approach that he has played extremely well for them last year it was one of the three best quarterbacks in the NFL obviously the lack of playoff success hurts but if deak Prescott were to hit the open market he would make well over 50 probably over $60 million a year he knows that and he appears to be comfortable doing so okay still no idea if the deal is going to get done before week one but we do know cowboys will have a new DC and Mike Zimmer with Dan Quinn in Washington so Mina what's your outlook on the Cowboys defensive transition this is really interesting because uh Mike Zimmer joins defense obviously was very very successful last year particularly against the pass did struggle against the run and what I'm interested in seeing from him is how much of that was strugg Al I think they're going to play less dime meaning three safeties on the field with Mike Zimmer he did bring in Eric Kendricks they're have some young linebackers they like to play more so from a runfit perspective structurally they should be more St sound however you need some of those young players to step up de marvan overon who missed the season last year Mazy Smith their first round draft pick if this defense needs to be stouter against the Run particularly on the spine those young players need to play better and Mike Zimmer needs to get that out of him I think that's the most difficult job he has with this defense hello Pittsburgh Steelers fans today we have an exciting update about the team's moves that will surely get everyone talking stay tuned because this is getting good after months of speculation rumors and what seemed like an endless wait the Steelers finally got their answer about the possibility of acquiring Brandon aak the star receiver from the San Francisco 49ers the news is that aak will not be traded the 49ers have decided to keep their key player offering him an impressive four-year $120 million contract with $76 million guaranteed a figure that shows just how valuable he is to them now this leaves the Steelers in an intriguing position if they were willing to go all in on aak does this mean they'll be looking for another High Caliber receiver while the options are limited at the moment there are still some interesting possibilities on the horizon many are wondering if the Steelers will wait until later in the season to make a big move players like Devonte Adams from the Raiders Debo Samuel from the 49ers or even Terry McLaren from the commanders could be available near the trade deadline just imagine any of them in the Steelers offense additionally we can't forget the rumors that the Broncos were close to a three- team trade deal with the 49ers if that deal falls through could courland suton be an option for Pittsburgh the possibility of bringing him in is real but it all depends on how patient the Steelers are willing to be in this chess game lastly we can't Overlook the fact that the Steelers have some internal matters to address two of their key players Pat Fri MTH and cam Hayward have been waiting for contract extensions All Summer with the aak situation resolved it's expected that Pittsburgh will now focus on securing these players with New Deals before the regular season starts so stay tuned because we could have news on these extensions at any moment what do you think fans should the Steelers wait for a big trade later in the season or do you think they should sign one of their own players right now let me know your thoughts and don't forget to subscribe and like the video for more
