and welcome back to another episode of doubl do podcast my name is Bren and de thanks so much for tuning in today it is time to break down week one we're going to do our week one takeaways Eric and I each have three takeaways we're going to do some leftover some stuff that didn't make the list and then our King of the week a player that we want to highlight that didn't make our conversation at the beginning before I introduce Eric please hit the Subscribe button if you're listening on YouTube give a like as well and if you're listening to your audio podcasts wherever you listen to your audio podcast guys please subscribe there Eric how you doing you looking good good Brandon good not as good as you Mr 350 on the bench that was pretty damn impressive three full reps not not no those baby reps those are full 350 reps that was uh damn impressive man good for you yeah the other day I went to do 350 and I told the spotter I'm like don't touch it don't touch it like I'll let you know and then of course he touches it on the last rep so I I could have the video and today I got a spotter that I knew and he he and he listened to instructions so yeah 350 by3 back to my old strength and something that just clicking into me right now Warner I think we're wearing the exact same shirts as we did on our weekly pix podcast are we really yeah I think we're both in blue speaking of the we weekly PX podcast I got to flex my muscles a little bit here 12 and three for brendo against a spread locks were only two and one but uh I threw some winners there and you know what that means you got to keep listen every week oh yeah you were red hot to start red hot we'll be uh week two like we said is probably our favorite week because of the overreaction so definitely tune in this week folks I got a good feeling okay again so Eric and I each of three takes that we feel strong about from week one and then some leftovers and then our crown of the week I'm going to start with my the take that I feel the strong as a b Warner from week one and again it's hard to kind of get a grip on these teams um there's a lot of crazy over actions going around one I'm going to get to as well but one that like I am confident about one that I was hammering throughout the off season is I think the Falcons offense is in trouble I'll pass it to you do you agree with me or not I've seen a lot of takes going around and there were some very very concerning stats I'm sure you'll bring up the pistol and the shotgun stats and how basically how predictable their offense was but I'm ready I'm gonna give them a couple more weeks because I do think Kur cousins is coming off an Achilles and he needs some time he did look very Rusty uh there were a couple uncharacteristic turnovers that I don't think will be consistent if they're consistently turning the ball over three times a week yeah okay I'll be very concerned I don't think they're going to do that but why don't you tell tell people the pistol and shotgun stats and just how how predictable they were it was it was very pathetic yeah so this is a game I had eyes on um at the office or we I work with a Steelers fan so it was on one of the TVs and I was just very curious about this game there was a lot of moving Parts you had Arthur Smith Revenge game Justin field stting Kirt cousins first game I was just fascinated by it so I thought the Falcons offense was disgusting I thought Zack Robinson had a terrible game plan like you mentioned it was very predictable 96% of their offensive snaps came out a shotgun which is is disgusting work and 26 of those were from pistol of the 26 pistol snaps 81% of those were designer runs the other two other 22 snaps at a shotgun there were zero design runs wary that like high school high school teams can key in on this like I I made a video about this for the our podcast social media channel NFL teams spend millions of dollars every single year to key in on this kind of stuff right there's senior offensive analysts there's guys walking around that are 25 years old in the analytic Department that are good with numbers that that are hired to do this and you're telling me that Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Ste defense didn't clue it on this kind of thing and it was very obvious like TJ watt had an interview after the game where he said he saw something early in the game where he clicked on the snap count I don't know if you saw that one sack that got called back where TJ watt jumped the snap count and he did it the ref apologized to him yes so that's another turnover that could have happened this predictable offense screwed over the offensive line line their offensive line got hammered in this game they allowed each offensive lineman on the team allowed at least two pressures in this game Chris lrom who is supposed to be one of the best offensive guards in the NFL allowed six pressures a career high for him uh Caleb McGary was getting toasted like they they had the offensive line had no chance and you brought up Kirk Cousins you said he looked Rusty I thought he looked injured and old yeah I'm I'm wondering if part of the reason they really went shotgun heavy was because they were concerned about the Achilles I'm hoping that as he gets healthier they put him under Center more because in Kurt Cousins career he is far better under Center so I just the game plan in general didn't make sense from the start and then you add in the fact that it was very predictable when you give a defensive mind like Mike Tomlin your game plan it's not going to go well ex that's part of the reason why I'm willing to give them another couple weeks before I sound the Panic alarm is because it was also against a great front seven in Pittsburgh that defense was puming I don't know how I feel about the Eagles front seven that's a conversation for a different day but I'm really going to be zoning in on week two to see if this Kirk Cousins offense looks better especially because they also do get an extra day to prepare so I I don't think the game plan's going to be as vanilla and I'll be watching them closely next week yeah you're right like Pittsburgh's defense I was kind of banging the drum this offseason that it could be one of the best in the league if not the best in the League this year and they they they were they were firing from all cylinders they were awesome but the reason I'm so concerned is because one with Kirk how Kirk Cousins looked like I I said he looked old and old and unhealthy he if you watch the film there's a great video that Warren sharp posted um I only watched the all 22 the first half but Warren sharp posted a video of all of his snaps and he was not driving off of his back foot like his throws where he was kind of standing up a lot of his throws were Duck balls you could like a couple of the interceptions were just not good footwork um you brought up the fact that he's better under Center warsy in his eight years his last eight seasons ktk cousins has taken 39 pistol snaps in his entire eight years combined he had 26 yesterday on Sunday like this game plan is nothing what Kurt Cousins is used to and that's again why I'm concern like they're not just going to flip their offense in week two are they like are we going to see a whole under Center offense like it's Kirk Cousins ailles magically healing in one week I don't know man like Zach Robinson uh I was I I I gave him the benefit out and I thought it was a good higher he was a McVey guy in Los Angeles but the more you dig deep he has not called plays in high school level college level this was his first go round and it was bad like it was the worst offensive game plan of the week and and I out of any team like if I was I I don't think this is an overreaction like that's why I led with it I generally think the Falcons offense is in is in deep trouble and I think this is what we're going to see like the offense was built for Michael penck not Kirt cousins so I see why they drafted him could be on to something there one positive I will say is we finally did see an offensive game plan built around bej Robinson 18 carries five catches so 23 Touches for bejon is a great number but then on the flip side of it Kyle pittz gets three three catches Drake London has two so who let the team of targets you know let the team and targets Ray Ray McLoud Ray McLoud like teames like I was saying this this offseason like this like loaded offense that everyone was saying is not loaded like you got bejan Robinson and Drake London who's getting like two Targets it's yeah it was this team is overrated and I'm I I'm hoping care coming into Philly I I know I know I was just thinking literally just Popp my head like they're they're coming in the link next week I I just I what I thought all offseason came to fruition in front of my eyes in week one and I here's another thing Warren have you taken a look at their schedule over the next couple weeks you know how everyone's saying everyone was saying oh they have an easy schedule they're going to win the NFC South all right they go to the link week two then they host the Kansas City Chiefs and then host the Saints and the Panthers there is a scenario here were they're 0 and four by the time they meet Carolina in week five yeah yeah you're not wrong there that is a tough it does get easier down in the back end but if you start 0 and four and you got a banged up quarterback who's not looking good there's going to be there's going to be it's going to be a hot seat already down in hot Atlanta I thought the defense played well um where he Morris played a touchdown yeah R Morris played 96% of coverage last season you remember we were talking about in our in our division pre or not division preview series The the week one pick Series where uh the Falcons played just straight manto man last year like it was a completely different coverage scheme than it was so I I thought the they they meshed well with what Rim Morris is bringing into town so I that's positive but like You Paid Kirk Cousins $40 million per year the next two seasons to lead your offense and you're getting you're getting a shell of him in my opinion like he's 36 wary he's not young coming off in Achilles and this was part of the reason why I thought the saints were going to win the NFC South and I still think that and I think it's looking good right now so I wouldn't like I'll go this far I I wouldn't be surprised if Michael penx is leading this team in a bit because they can't play like this and I just with the coaching staff with how bad the offensive line looked the scheme everything combined I just I don't know how this goes forward and they can continue like this something has to change drastically and I I don't know what that is but I was I was disappointed with the Falcons offense I agree that's a good transition into my my first takeaway of week one and it's are NFL coaches getting soft because I was banging the drum for the New York Giants the Carolina Panthers or the Cleveland Browns at halftime to bench their quarterback Daniel Jones Bryce young and DeShaun Watson all were at the bottom in terms of EPA per play they were negative EPA per dropback one coach just bench a guy just be a man and look at the rest of your roster and say this isn't good enough and I know on one side of the coin people would say hey it's early give them time I look at it as on the other side of the coin is you just had six to eight weeks of training camp and these guys were working their tail off it's not fair to the rest of your roster to just Trot out quarterback play like that be a man and bench the guy it doesn't mean you have to bench him for week two but just sit one of these awful quarterbacks down and send them a message Maybe that lights a fire under one of these quarterbacks and I was just disgusted by those three quarterbacks specifically and on the flip side of things like in Carolina for example you have Andy Dalton there that's a competent backup it's not like you're trotting out some like a Malik Willis type backup who nobody has confidence in like Andy Dalton is a competent quarterback not saying he's a great quarterback at this stage of his career but what you were seeing from Bryce young in that that first half how you did not make a switch was very alarming for me I know it was Canal's first ever game as a head coach but I'm worried the NFL coaches are getting sof here and on the other side of things with the Browns and Giants those are high paid quarterbacks maybe there was some pressure hey I don't want to bench a guy making some money but send a message light a fire under the guy and basically say this is not good enough and specifically in in C cland as well you have jamus Winston as your backup that's another very competent quarterback there is no way in my mind that you could watch that first half and say jamus Winston would be worse like I I was just very disappointed that not one quarterback of those three got benched at halftime after just abysmal abysmal first halfes so would you have benched all three like yeah brace young I might have benched after the first quarter like what was that you had Andy B in there and it's just I just think of it as a coach and you're coaching a 53 man roster and when one guy is playing that bad it just it sends such a poor message to your roster to just continue to trot him out and in Bryce Young's case specifically you might be doing more damage right now by running him out there like it is it is not working like did you see that one snap he had one play specifically where he stepped up in the pocket and he literally had to jump to try liled I just think it's to the rest of your roster to watch that and say let's keep the let's keep banging this drum when you have competent options on the bench we're gonna talk Cleveland Browns and DeShaun Watson so I'll put that aside I want to focus on Bryce young um I am 97% there that it's over I was 100% there draft like I I loved Bryce young coming to college I loved him in Alabama I thought he was worth the first overall swing but it's not it's not looking good um I actually thought one of the most embarrassing plays was the touchdown run at the end like he looked like feeble running into the end zone he almost fell the ball was ke on his hands the first play of the game like was a terrible interception um I if I'm a Carolina I think the Carolina Panthers fans have the worst of any fan base in the NFL right now like think about this you you spent all offseason reading Bryce young tweets about training camp about how he's looking better they invested in the offensive line they s they bring in Deontay Johnson they got they made their they made their defense worse to make the offense better like they they they borrowed from the defense to invest in the offense and both were terrible um I I think this like besides like the Super Bowl loss to the Denver Broncos this probably has to be the worst loss for Ken P fan a long time cuz you're looking at this going we are three years away not even cuz we got to get rid of our quarterback we got to get a new one in and then we got to develop him and then we got to get a roster built around him like there is zero hope for the Panthers fans I agree with you that he probably should have been benched in this game you know want to remind you know whenever I think of benching quarterbacks I think of in 2008 the Philadelphia Eagles it was week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens Andy re benches Donovan McNab and that do you remember that Ed Reed pick six where he brings it 109 yards Kevin Cobb throws it to him in the back of the end zone the Eagles rip off four of their next five games and go to the NFC championship game that benching lit a fire on mcnab's ass in certain situations a benching can work and you are right all three of those should have saw saw some Pine at the end uh jamus Winston should have played Andy Dalton should have played and Drew lock should have played I think you could go as far as JW lock should probably start going forward like they're giving him another week Daniel Jones was downright awful um we get to DeShaun Watson and jamus Winston and then but you have to play brce Young you can't like like put his ass on the bench maybe like I would be completely fine if they benched brce young and then came back to him next week but you need to send him a message that this is not working and like you said these NFL teams invest so much money in the analytics like was there not one guy that tapped Canalis on the uh shoulder at halftime and said uh by the way every offensive snap right now we are losing half a point per play like it was negative 0.05 EPA per play like you can't you can't just keep trotting that out there like there has to be one guy on that sideline that says hey right now our offense would be better off if we did a QB Neel every single snap and it would have been that's how bad Bryce young played in the first half and they just kept running it out there mhm yeah it was it was ugly and like the Saints they made the Saints have the seventh best dvoa week one performance of all time like the New Orleans Saints they are they are dvoa Anders in everything right now like they're analytically going to do dominate The League like it was that was as bad at to a performance to a fan base to like everything like zero hope zero hope the other specific play where his offensive lineman sacked Bryce young like it was there was just it was a comedy act they they had no answer for the pressure at all like Canal that was something Canalis had to bring in because Bryce young like has to stay in the PO like has to stay in the pocket and deliver these throws and the Saints were just attacking them and they had no answer it looked like a rookie coach with a bad quarterback that's exactly what it looked like but it looked like emphas like emphasized like I I uh I don't even know what to say about the Panthers and Bryce young and then Daniel Jones um we can have this discussion another day but I like that take I I think all three of them should have got better ion you're right like there's no we don't really see it anymore like Andrew Aaron Rogers didn't really get benched last night Ty Taylor just came in because they were getting their asses kicked but like none of those coaches came out in the media and and kind of lit a fire under their asses uh Brian dble came right away and said Daniel Jones is a starter next week um so you're not really kind of seeing that old school old school kind of get up your ass and make and do some math kind of uh yeah like kind of one that was going viral on Twitter on Sunday was John Elway's first career start where he started 1 for eight and he got benched like if John Elway can get benched in his first ever career start I don't know why Daniel Jones and Bryce young can't be benched at halftime it it was baffling to me there were some terrible quarterback play in general Warner this was the first so la all the quarterbacks in the league combined on week one combined for 187 net passing yards that is the worst Mark since 1998 wow that's spectacular here's one that one that you're going to like rushing statistics so EPA per Rush exceeded EPA per pass play into in week one you had a 0.0 negative 0.01 EP per rush you had a negative point you had a point negative 08 EPA per pass play like passing was a bad play in week one for all teams they struggled so maybe the defensive coaches are finally the it's a it's always going to swing right there's always going to be Trends and passing dominated like I remember last year uh um Lamar Jackson's passing yard total as the MVP he would have finished 11th in passing yards in 2020 like it's maybe finally the defenses are catching on and maybe the rushing game is going to uh be what kind of swings it the other way we'll see yes someone quote tweeted it was a graph that I'm reading for the EPA numbers um which is actually the numbers are swinging your way like you said like rushing EPA is going up and passing and EPA is going down last year like it was just a little bit but like the graphs are almost intersecting um someone quote tweeted that that graph tweet and put like Drew Brees Aaron roders that one year where Breeze through like 5400 yards Brady threw like 5100 yards like and just like the the quarterback play just isn't there right now like teams are struggling to kind of find their franchise guy there's like there's I think another take away I had from week one is Patrick mahom Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are just in a different tier than the rest of the league I agree all right next one up let's talk about the Cincinnati Bengals um there's a lot of people freaking out about their loss to the New England Patriots I'm here to tell you that the Cincinnati Bengals offense is going to be just fine and we all need to slow your role what do you think about that their offense I can buy that I think one of my takeaways about uh the Bengals specifically was a lot of people are freaking out about how bad the offense was I think this defense has serious serious issues because they were stacking the Box quite a bit and the Patriots were getting what they wanted On The Run they're front seven in Cincinnati I don't want to use the soft word it's too easy to use the or too early to use the sword in week one but if the Patriots and that week offensive line was getting a good push I'm concerned about that front seven long term yeah the the run defense was bad this is actually something that I talked about this offseason or on our offseason podcast where the everyone's sneakily looking at the Bengals defensive goal and they're going to be back they their run defense was God awful last year was one of their killes heels and they didn't really do much to make that better so I'm with you on that but I want to focus on the offense for this because like it was rough they only had 224 yards of offense 13 first downs they only scored one touchdown like they were eight and a half Point underdogs um I'm assuming of many Survivor pools were ruined because of this game so I get that like it was it was a bad game I'm not going to say that it was it was good sorry like I'm not going to say oh like don't look at the stats in general was good it wasn't um burrow was pressured at the third lowest rate of his career he only averaged 5.6 yards per attempt like so that's kind of something that's concerning why wasn't he pulling the trigger but there was a lot just not going for them like you brought up the Run game the Patriots executed the perfect game plan for this one they ran the ball down their throats they held them to only eight possessions the Bengals eight possessions with the fewest amount of possessions out of any team in the league in week one so there's not much you can do on only eight times driving on offense um Mike keki had a touchdown called back that was dropped the ball hit the ground it was a called touchdown and then they reviewed it and it wasn't then the next play Tanner Hudson at like the two yard line fumbles the ball so the Patriots get that back and that was after a very good drive it was like six minutes left it was in the second quarter they drove down the field like it was all looking good there were four fumbles in this game the pat covered three of them so there was a lot of stuff that just didn't go their way fumble luck is definitely a thing because the Bengals lost more fumbles in week one then they lost all of last season yeah there you go so that we we always bring a fumble luck in our division previous years like it's it's real um so I just I think this offense is too good to just like be this bad like just show this bad consistently um we've seen in week one Joe burrow like Joe burrow not just in week one just in general um like the first two weeks Zack Taylor is 1- 10 in his first two weeks now as a Cincinnati Bengals head coach Joe burrow is 1 and8 um as a Cincinnati Bengal weeks 1- two completion percentage under 64% only 220 passing yards 12 to9 touchdown interception ratio from weeks 3 to 18 he's 28 and 15 and one a 70% completion percentage throws for about 280 yards a game 85 to 28 touchdown interception ratio for some reason this Bengals team just gets off the slow starts and they f figure it out later on we remember that one year where they started playing a lot of two high shell coverages on the Bengals on this podcast we were saying the Bengals offense needs to figure something out they did they end up finishing fourth in dvoa that year so I just I think there's a little too much panic and from Bengals fans and other NFL podcasters or people on Twitter and whatnot I think they're going to be fine let's all just slow down yeah they'll get T Higgins back too which will be a huge help but um something of note I took from that game is yes Jamar Chase didn't have a off season and might have been a little rusty but Christian Gonzalez might be legit legit a number one true lock down corner he bowled out and that's something to look for um going forward in New England if they have a true true lock down Corner 100% they the defense was awesome like they had a great game plan J Mayo like played a lot of Disguise coverages like I said bro wasn't pulling the trigger on not there was third down and like nine in the Bengals uh in the Bengals end was their last Drive of the game Andre Yosh ofos and Jamar Chase run a double uh double move routes on the outside it was against single High coverage Yosh ofos was running wide open Burl doesn't pull the trigger he goes underneath fourth down they don't get the ball back so I just it was like just little things that I think they can correct um but you're right Gonzalez was awesome and hey I predicted the Patriots win six times you were all over me they only need five more of them things and hey they're a well they're a well coach team like they play with the Vibes are different there there now it looks like guys are having fun again in New England yeah last year they were like soulless you know like they were bad they were like they were a bad coach team as much as we say belich is the greatest coach of all time and he probably is they were not they were poorly coached last season and I thought this was a positive sign and and turning the momentum the right way so um all right anything else on the Bearcats nope I'll next bring it to the AFC South and I want to talk about the Indianapolis Colts so going into that game against the Texans on the betting preview I said I I really need to watch the Colts before I can bet on them or against them and see what this looks like I think I'm more confused after watching One game of Anthony Richardson it did not I did not get any clear anything at all because yes the throw that went viral might have been it that was a top five throw I've ever seen 65 a yards it was the third long foot yeah third longest air yards completed in uh since they started tracking that data and I don't know if you saw the clip of Joe Flaco on the bench he looked to Richardson and said I think that's the best throw I've ever seen I've never SE like and that's I I audibly gasp at work I was blown away I did not I I saw it go into the air I was going what the is happening like where's this ball traveling to and there's Alec Pierce just wide open Uh I that wasn't just an insane toss so that was the good he finished 9 for 19 and he missed multiple throws he and what was concerning to me was he was missing throws High then he was missing throws low he was all over the place and I honestly I don't I this might sound weird but I don't care if you can throw the ball 60 yards in the air and throw touchdowns if you can't throw a sevenard out I don't think it's going to work long term and I mean he's got so far to go he's played something I think I saw that he's played 15 games since high school or 20 games in that range so he's barely played football over the last four years but I I need to see so much more from Anthony Richardson before I can confidently say I believe in him and that accuracy has to get better 9 for 19 you cannot be less than 50% in the NFL I mean the yards are good because he had another long bomb that went for 40 yards so he did throw for 2112 yards but the completion percentage is so concerning for me and I need to put a little cold water on the Anthony Richardson love because he needs to get better in so many areas still he missed to Don Mitchell on two touchdowns like if he overthrew him on both Adon Mitchell could have had like a monster debut like I kind of feel bad for him he was uh he played really well he got open all game um and his Anon richardton Warren Z averaged 16.4 air yards per attempt which is just ridiculous the next guy was at 11 so like to put that perspective he was throwing the ball five yards longer than any other quarterback all game you can't really live like that but the thing I'll say with Richardson is like I don't think you can take away like the the big plays like that really does matter you know what I mean like he's an like he's an alien that way no like there is one Josh Allen is the only other quarterback in the NFL that can make those plays I don't even think I've seen Josh Allen throw that far like that's what you kind of have to live and die with when it comes to Anthony Richardson and I think you're just hoping that he gets 20% better at the other things because if he stays healthy with the running game and stuff like that it can just work and he can be a oneof one but I'm with you like there's people crowning him as like already like the quarterback of the future of the league and whatnot which just I haven't seen enough and the last that game was like emphasis of what I was already confused about like you said at the top it just it made everything wor it made me just more baffled at who this player can be right like I I have no no concept of the Colts going forward do you uh you said you like them against the Packers coming up this week it's more of a fate of Malik Willis than anything but I this will be a a good test for him because I really do think they're going to get the ground game going against Green Bay the Texans did a really good job against the run I mean Jonathan Taylor was held under 50 yards only three yards per attempt on 16 carries so maybe against the defense where the Run games go going he'll have a little bit more space down the field but any anytime that you're missing wideopen guys like he was I just in the back of my mind I'll always be nervous um he was making a lot of difficult throws to like his completion percentage or expected completion percentage was 61.7% like Sam darnold was like 77 like Sam Dar was just making the easy throws like Richards that was dead last in League Richardson's like he like like the 65 year bomb is not a like it was like a 4% chance of getting completed like he needs to do a better job of hitting the layups um and we'll see if that can come but perfect way to describe it he needs to hit the layups before I before I can really have trust in him in general though I thought I was a little more I came away from the Colts a little more impressed than disappointed because I thought they played the Texans hard like they gave them a really good fight they covered the spread that was my one loss in my lock that was a funny one because when the spread opened about 2 months ago it was minus one and a half for the Texans and then it got bad like just Vegas is just so damn good at that he like how do they do it they I I think the Texans went for two on a play as well or they missed an extra point like something happened for them to get 29 Points um but that that was a very fun game like you saw the future of the AFC South kind of right there in week one um all right we're going to take a quick break we'll finish up our last two takes some leftovers and our Kings of the week the double doing podcast is sponsored by Better Health life is hard it's especially hard when you don't have finishing up our final two takes from week one waren Z it's time we have the DeShaun Watson conversation because this is uh this is a a takeway through every single person that watched week one had I think it's definitely Panic time in Cleveland they have themselves that aan lots of problem they sure do and now there's some more off field issues coming out tinfoil hat on do you think the Browns might have been happy with this or pushing this kind of I know it's already come out that he's not going to go on the NFL uh exempt list so they are stuck with him now for the time being maybe that changes but there's part of me that was like huh it would be quite convenient if this contract uh disappeared because if they were to cut him it would be 118 Million Dead cap hit next year so that's not an option you cannot take that I mean the biggest cap dead cap hit in NFL history right now is Russell Wilson that was 60 million so and that broke the record by 30 million so this would double that W he has $172 million left on his deal they'll have to pay they have to pay him that somehow some way but unless somehow something legally they get out of it I don't know I just there was part of me that when that first um news broke I was like huh that's rather convenient for Cleveland isn't it yeah there there was definitely some good people in the front office going already checking into the contract details and going can we screw away out of this with that um I'll get into the the off field stuff in a sec I want to talk about on the field because it was a disaster was just as bad his dropback sucess rate was 23.2 that was the lowest of any week on starter the Browns had a 25% success rate in week one that was worse than the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants so if you're thinking that their quarterbacks were bad the Clevelands was worse I get the pressure stuff like he was destroyed they had the the Dallas Cowboys had 27 pressures Michael Parsons had nine of them fangs Demarcus Lawrence was attacking them like they had backup tackles like both offensive tackles sorry were out so backups were in but he's making money to elevate his offense like you're a $230 million quarterback you're supposed to figure this out you're supposed to play Above This that's what you're paid to do warrena he was five of 17 for 22 yards six sacks and two receptions Under Pressure like that's as bad as it gets he was a absolute like pumpkin back there you love the pumpkin term for Gino Smith sometimes he was a pumpkin back there he's worse than a pumpkin there there's no I don't know what the upside is anymore like he's not bringing anything to the table I went back and looked at his best game with Cleveland it was week three in 2023 against the Titans he went 2 7 of 33 for three touchdowns for 289 yards that was it he was fourth in EPA per play that week and 11th in a success rate so he was like a top seven quarterback in week three one game that was the best for one game that was all they got like he's he's not getting he's not bringing anything to the table wary Watson ranks 39th in EP per play among 41 quarterbacks who have at least 400 dropbacks over the last three seasons guess who are the bottom two behind them are Zack Wilson and Bryce Young this is the this is the yeah this is where he's at um it's over he he's unplayable at this point and it's going to get I think it's going to get worse before it gets better they're designing this offense around them like it's a ton of shotgun they're trying to like re recapture what worked for him in 2020 in Houston during that Co year where he was amazing but that was the last time we saw him play good ball it's four years ago Kevin stans's bested drawing up play action passes under center six offensive line sets power Run game and they're going completely away from that and we brought we talked about this off seat as well it Stan is going to probably get fired maybe over this over his quarterback not playing well so the onfield is a mess and I truly believe that they have a better chance with jamus Winston at quarterback going forward than they do with DeShawn Watson absolutely because there was also reports coming out around uh camp that the locker room just really does not believe in Watson I mean how could they he's a scumbag let's call what it is and MH jamus Winston at least would give the Vibes a different feel and you can laugh at it but sometimes Vibes in a locker room are damn important and when they're this bad a switch is really all you can go to and you brought up the pressures yes the offensive line was banged up and they weren't good but something that I was really impressed with with from on the other side of Dak Prescott is his pre- snap how good he was at noticing where the pressure is going to be coming from he would you know shift the line or tell the move the running back to the other side desha wson doesn't do any of that pre- snap he just Huts the ball and like oh wow that I'm getting swarms like maybe pre- snap you can do something to help your offensive line he did none of that Mike Zimmer does deserve a lot of credit he came up with a hell of a game plan it's good to see him back in the league but Deshawn Watson pre- snap was a disaster and then post Snap was even worse his only tra that he is above average in right now is I think evading pressure but then once he evades the pressure he does nothing with the ball you like it's sometimes taking the sack would be better off than what he ends up doing once he escapes the pocket because he just makes dumb decisions and I'm with you it it is time to move on but it's got to be pressure from the ownership he's the owner's stroking these checks and he's going to probably demand that Watson keeps playing and that's got to be as bad of a situation as you can beat it yeah that's the thing like are you going to bench the guy that you stle $172 million to like they're going to ride this out for a bit like I said they're gonna they're better with with jamus Winston I don't think we're GNA see that for a bit they're going to continue to roll him out and this is this is as we we said Carolina Panthers fans are in Hell Browns fans are in hell right now too like this is a tough watch um like one more thing like Joe flacko had four 300 passing year games in his first five games as a Cleveland Brown Watson doesn't have one yet like so and then the off field stuff I want to get to as well you brought up the lawsuit it's gross let's call it what it is he's a scumbag he's a sicko he's literally belongs Behind Bars the fact that he's still in the league and playing and taking Snaps cadal should have stepped in and done something stricter the suspension wasn't long enough and get this I'm going to throw this out D this might be fake I don't know like not fake but it might be wrong I did some digging on this I think it's true Deshawn Watson has a burner account on Twitter right now defending himself there's a burner account called called Leroy bicker staff that is going around and I'm not Mor I'm not making this up I'll send you the tweets if you go look at the replies it it it sounds like deshun Watson and Cleveland Browns fans have sniffed this out they've been calling him Watson hey DeShaun you suck we know this is you like I am I usually skeptical on this kind of thing but I am like 82% sure that this is deshun Watson on Twitter right now defending himself calling out his own players um it it's this is ugly ugly and this is the this was the biggest story line for me in week one yeah for sure and I mean when we were doing our offseason previews we were talking about hey can he be League average like I don't even think League average is his ceiling right now like I don't I don't I don't think I think that ship has sailed yeah they're not they're never getting the $230 million man like they they need the100 million man and he can't even give them that like like I said his best game was like a three touchdown 289 yard game like that's the most they've gotten out of this against win against the Titans who were terrible last year yeah so I it's tough I I don't know what they do going forward like there's zero upside with Watson at quarterback and um they have a a solid defense I thought their defense played pretty well like there were spurts in the first quarter where they were kind of getting carved up but um it it's it looks like it's they are already set to finish last in the AFC North um with deshun Watson do you have anything else on the brownies I don't um my last takeaway that I wanted to talk about he he he was so close to getting my king of the week but there was one more player I wanted to talk about but I want to give Baker Mayfield some flowers let's go I mean number one in EPA per play on the week by a full point1 by the way Josh Allen and the bills were second but Tampa Bay cleared them by a full 0.1 their success rate was 54% not ranked in the top five on the week yes it was against this Washington defense which we might have to uh talk about a different day as one of the worst defenses I've seen in a long time but just we just talked about DeShaun Watson just look at the Vibes difference you see when Baker Mayfield takes a field his teammates love them they root for the guy they want to play well for him that was the exact opposite of DeShaun Watson where did Baker Mayfield get drafted again Cleveland Browns do you know they traded three first round picks and gave gave that rapist $230 million to get rid of Baker yeah and like Baker is just shoving it off the Browns owner's ass and I I'm so happy for the guy I mean he looks like he's having fun and you could not say that at any point in his Cleveland tenure he did not look like he was having fun and you can just tell the difference is he's got a new lease on life a new contract which by the way I was a little bit skeptical of but hey that PID dividends already and I'm just super happy for Baker Mayfield and this you said uh when we were talking about the Falcons that you like the Saints to win uh the NFC South I think Baker and the Bucks are going to have uh something to say about that yeah I predicted them the Bucks have finish check I just I I just couldn't get there I thought the sings just had the best chance with schedule and whatnot the bcks got the first place schedule this year but you're right about Baker how well he played I I had eyes on this game the entire one my dad's a commanders fan I was kind of forced to fully watch the Janet Daniels ver his Baker experience he was cooking dude they they could have scored 50 points in this game yeah for sure they took their foot off the gas they had eight drives or nine drives they only punted once they kicked three field goals Jaylen McMillan dropped a wide open TouchDown In The End Zone Baker missed like one throw deep like they could have put up a 50 Burger on the commander defense which is terrible by the way we'll have to discuss that in a future in a future episode um but he was making a nice throws that one to Mike Evans in the end zone was beautiful put that on a dime that's like indefensive you can't defend that like there's no stopping that play and he like four touchdowns like you said highest EPA per play of the league and week one he was fantastic and he was feeling himself he had that little celebration where he slime and point it like he was he was in his bag and I really liked Chris Godwin's game too they moved him uh back to the slot I think he played every single snap from the slot which is where he is most comfortable he looked young again so yeah I'm I'm high on this bucks offense I know know it was against this Watton defense but just again I'll say it again The Vibes they just they look like they're having fun and that goes a long way sometimes over a long 18 week grind yeah something that we didn't really get into um this offseason or not many people were talking about was Liam Cohen taking over the Bucks offense and how different it would look they ran motion at a 27% higher rate in week one than they did last season so they were already kind of mixing up the offense um like you said Chris Godwin caught all of his eight catches for uh eight targets for 83 yards in touchdown from the slot he was averaging only 6.8 yards per depth on his targets which was the third lowest of any receiver in the NFL this week but it was working like that's kind of what he's best at in that short formations um and I think Liam Cohen got something here like they they're using they're mixing it up they're using kind of Baker Mayfields uh his best traits so they're they're a fun team right now sometimes you can also get a on an offensive mind of where's the place he left and what are they doing and ky's offense has just fallen off a clip without him so I think that actually speaks to how good of an offensive mind he is as well y for sure he's he's probably a guy that's going to be getting some head coaching looks this offseason okay let's talk about some leftovers here that didn't make our list I want to talk about Antonio Pierce Antonio Pierce easily had two of the most cowardly punts I've ever seen in NFL history in week one let's talk about it 10:30 left in the game at the Chargers 14 yd line Pierce decides to kick a field goal down 167 at fourth and one um their offense finally gets to the 14 yd line with 10 minutes left you can't go for it to trust your team on fourth and one to make it 167 1610 terrible decision that's a twoo that field goal dropped their chances of winning by 8% yeah that wasn't even the wor one there there's another one coming up just Just 4 minutes later fourth and one at the Chargers 41 yd line or this was the one that dropped by 8% the field goal one dropped it by 2.9% this one was 8% fourth and one down 1610 715 left in the game you have a 4 one at the 41 yd line you got to go for this like you have to he doesn't even attempt a 58 yard field goal he sends his freaking punt team on the field punon tries to pin the Chargers deep the Chargers of course in NFL NFL God fashion give the you to Antonio Pi some up top Chargers go down score a touchdown it's ball game yeah it was just I don't know how you're I don't know how the players look at him in the eye like you are supposed to be the players head coach right isn't that what Antonio Pierce has brought into to be the guy that roots for his players and is aggressive and whatnot he's the opposite of that his whole demeanor is we're going to be tougher than you and you don't trust your team to go get one yard twice twice yeah they got bullied in the trenches that whole game but if you're you're supposed to be this bully type coach and you didn't go out there and trust your guys to go get one yard that was that was as cowardly of a punt as I've ever seen it was disgusting um I think I think he's the Raiders are in trouble with him like he was the most conservative head coach when it came to punting last season and then he just showed it showcase it again um I I I questioned bringing him back as a head coach like I guess it was the right call at the time like all the fan base was leaning toward it but like they beat up on bad teams toward the end last season Warren Z we talked about it in the week one with pixs column like they were beating up on bad quarterbacks it was kind of a phantom five and four end of their year like they weren't that good and this team is just dead to wrs as well I I will be fading the Las Vegas Raiders in our week picks column every single week I'm with you yeah I'm with all right what's your last one uh just my leftovers quickly and I'm going to sound like an old man yelling at the clouds here but I'm so done with these International games like I like the field conditions were one thing they were just terrible and I know people were ripping on it being like I can't the the NFL doesn't care about their player safeties like you just realized this in year 2024 like no the NFL doesn't care but like what are we doing in Brazil like I'm sorry like who the hell in Brazil cares about football I'm sorry I I just I couldn't like that was a great game Packers versus Eagles I have no takeaways from it because of the field conditions I don't know if the the Eagles defense or the Packers defense what they are because the pass rushers didn't even have a chance it was a sloppy sloppy game and I I just hate that we're we had two great teams play against each other in those conditions I don't think the field had anything to do with Jordan Love's injury I think that injury happens on any field yeah so I do think the people on Twitter need to chill out on that but I know these International games aren't going anywhere because it does generate Revenue but I'm just so done with them and I'm sick of the like travel like sixh hour flights uh 8 Hour flights for teams to just stay in their hotel for three St days they can't leave like it I don't know I'm just done with the international games but I know they're not going anywhere so I know I'm just an old man yelling at Clouds you know what was funny Brazil international soccer team the men's team had a game I believe against the Netherlands that night the exact same day so like the whole country was watching that anyways like unless you're at the stadium they were watching like I I I'll push back on fans don't like football in Brazil there was clearly packed house they clearly do I work with a guy from Brazil who who who literally grew up in Brazil and now is a writer with me so there's a fan base there but it doesn't mean you have to go there and play a football game there and you're right like this game should have been at the link like this game should have been at e aren't you pissed you lost a home game for that for sure like it was nine they had nine it took one so they have eight that's normal I guess but a lot like I'm not from Philly so like I would have been pissed if I was a season ticket holder like this would have been a a perfect opening night like I dig the Friday night one so don't get rid of that but maybe just keep it in America yeah keep it keep it in States you're a single guy but if there's Friday Night Football there'll be so many divorces going around like yeah that's that's a that's date night for a lot of people but I'm with you the feel thing is funny because JJ wated a great tweet about it where the fields like International fields are meant for soccer players they're meant for like long games with gliding light player like they're not meant for like Mak maai beckon to to get into the ground like the all 22 film of the pass rush on both sides was just like it was a hockey rink Bryce Bryce Huff fell 10 times in this game he could not could player fell at least once like Romeo dos Romeo dobs fell like twice on big catches Xavier mckin on the touchdown and saquon Barkley fell he might have been able to make a play that interception that Jaylen Herz through in the end zone AJ Brown fell that he could have that would have been know jump ball but AJ Brown wiped out the end zone like both both teams got affected by it like it wasn't one team benefited from it but I'm with you keep it at home all right our final segment is Kings of the week where we each zon in on a player and wary I even got a little TR oh look at that look at that King of the week for mine is Joe alt Joe Al L just Charter his offensive rookie tackle just killed it this week he had zero quarterback pressures across 11 matchups against Zach CR Max Crosby sorry all in one-on-one situations Crosby has not been held to zero pressures in a matchup against an offensive lineman since week nine of 2022 Chargers fans have to be happy with that performance because Malik neighbors didn't do much for the Giants but Joe Al was awesome there's not like a player that just guaranteed to be a pro bowler in my opinion from that rookie draft than Joe alal I thought he was spectacular yeah no and it wasn't an easy matchup you're getting Max Crosby and what did you did you say he didn't even allow a pressure from Max Crosby in an entire game zero Crosby was held to zero pressures on 11 pass rush snaps against Joe Walt that's incredible on your debut that'ss off and couldn't there could be a better fit for Joe Al than uh Harbaugh those those two are going to they're going to love each other for the next five to seven years I wanted to talk about the Chargers as general in the segment but it was against the Raiders I watched that game both teams didn't play very well I'll hold off on the Chargers hype for a bit but I predicted make I predicted them to make the playoffs so I'm on the bandwagon this year but I'll pump the breaks a little bit after that week one performance all right who is your king of the week my king of the week I don't have a crown and maybe it's better because if I did I kind of want to split it in half because I want to give half the crown to Sam darnold and the other half to Kevin oconnell because I was so impressed with this uh Minnesota offense Sam darnold was quarter back number two on the week in EPA plus completion percentage over expectation So Not only was Sam darnold making throws he probably shouldn't have but he was put in great positions by Kevin oconnell I said on the pick segment week one that I had Kevin oconnell just under that Elite tier as an offensive mind if Sam darnold is putting up performances like this every week he is 100% going to be moved into that Elite tier for me but I know you not a Sam darn believer and I know it was only week one but I I really liked what I saw from that Minnesota Vikings offense yeah um I need to see more from darnold give me like give me five weeks he played well don't get me wrong but against the Giants he struggled a little bit in the second half but his first like he completed like his first 13 passes or something he let he was second the NFL completion percentage um just behind Derek Carr this week so like there it's a positive sign it's going the right direction and you talked about you talked about coaches um with some dumb decisions I loved early in that game they had a fourth and two on the four Kevin conell kept the offense out there what do you do oh wait we have this guy named Justin Jefferson let's throw him the ball touchdown like trust your players and I I think Kevin oconnell is really really Rising the ranks as a as a coach in my in my power rankings all righty that's all she wrote thanks so much for tuning in guys really appreciate it wary I will be back for week two picks
