the preseason has come to a close as the Cowboys fall in preseason game number three 26-9 at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers welcome back to AT&T Stadium this is the first word presented by Dr Pepper alongside Nicole Hutcheson I'm Kyle yman Nicole plenty to talk about after week three of the preseason next up for the Cowboys September 8th in the regular season but let's start with your overall thoughtss and a seven-point loss at home I mean I think it's just a seven-point loss at home right it's the preseason uh like we mentioned before it's a measuring stick of where this team and where these players are at the end of this regular the preseason but when you talk about some of the things that I that stood out to me the most this offense needs a little work uh third down uh conversions 47% there fourth down conversions you were impressed there but I I think that there's a lot more work to do with this offense and let's start with Trey Lance in the quarterback position today I mean if you start with just the initial stat line it looks pretty good 33 of 49 passing he threw it nearly 50 times 323 yards and he had a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown with 90 yards but there's just one kicker five interceptions on the day now he's forcing the ball into Tight Windows he's trying to test downfield he's trying to do a number of different things in his final real game reps possibly of the Season what did you think in his finale and the way he battled but also had some lapses along the way the first opening drive for the Cowboys I was impressed and I thought that he was going to run away away with that I mean a 14 play drive you saw him connecting with multiple receivers you saw him uh obviously handing off the ball to Malik Davis uh Royce Freeman I mean I think that it's not his fault that there's still a lot of room to grow for him and I think that a lot of people really have to have Grace when it comes to Tre lands but five interceptions I'll say I'm going to give him some Grace here I'd say two of those were not his fault okay Cam Johnson you got to come down with that football in the fourth quarter I mean that was something on him the last drive as well cam Johnson you got to find a way to get that ball so Trey Lance I mean he's very accurate when he's on you know when he's patient I think there's just a lot more room to grow now the question is do the Cowboys want to have time and make time for that he is 25 years old he's got a little bit of time to get into that fold but it it it's going to take time and that time isn't going to come in the regular season unless something catastrophic happens to Dak and Cooper rush but right now the depth chart is set at the quarterback spot is the depth chart set at running back though that's the number one thing I mean a lot of eyes today on dufon Roy Freeman both guys had solid games duvon nearly six yards per carry had a long of 18 what did you see from the running backs that we got some good run today you know Patrick noi Walker had mentioned this in camping out that you know the Cowboys don't really have a running back that where defenses are kind of scared of what they can bring to the table I mean you have Zeke of course you know that powerful running back that he is Rico do Speedster as well but we don't really have that guy but if you think about Duce Von though he brings something different to that running back room I think in open field he's so dangerous and you saw that on the field today so I think that Deuce honestly was electrifying today something that he really needed as well uh especially coming after a loss so you could see him in terms of the Special Teams unit as well he was returning punts he was returning kicks you could see him and Turpin in the back field of a kick at some point in the season John fossil's got a little bit to play with there if V is indeed on the roster last question here we got a flip to the the defensive side of the ball saw some good stuff from the defense today another couple turnovers they kept the Chargers offense at Bay despite really giving up the big play to former Cowboys Simi foko uh what did you like from the defense as the preseason comes from comes to an end I like our secondary and especially with uh the news with Don Bland he'll be out first about six to eight weeks uh with the foot surgery so when you talk about that those guys have to step up Julius wood man he's a guy to watch just because that defensive back room I believe the Cowboys keep about 10 guys in that room so when you talk about Julius wood I think he slowly just made a name for himself especially with that pick but Eric Scott I mean a pass Break Up In The End Zone that was special Israel Mamu uh certainly has been stepping up especially this last week of Camp as well so I mean that that secondary was very interesting to me I I love the way that they're performing and not a lot of kayin Carson either because of the news to Duron Bland's injury out 6 to 8 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot that was suffered he had surgery or will undergo go surgery was the news that we had today so lots to talk about and we've got time to talk about it a little bit of a break now between now and September 8th 15 days before the Cowboys open up the regular season on the road against the Cleveland Browns you can catch Nicole Hutcherson on a number of different Dallas Cowboys platforms including her podcast Girls Talk boys talk Monday through Friday starting next week and then I'm on talking
