hey everyone I've got an important update on Hurricane hone which is currently pounding Hawaii with heavy rain and powerful winds this storm ramped up to a hurricane on Saturday and continues to impact the Big Island over the past 24 hours some areas have seen more than a foot of rain leading to flash flooding wind alerts and warnings are still in effect so if you're in the area please stay informed and take necessary precautions the storm is expected to weaken as it moves South of Hawaii through Monday but that doesn't mean we're clear of danger just yet heavy rain and strong winds will persist especially in areas prone to flooding like Headlands and passes tropical storm Force gusts are a real concern so if you haven't already secure loose objects and stay indoors public shelters have been opened and several Beach Parks and roads are closed for safety and it's not just hone we need to worry about hurricane Gilma a category 3 storm with Winds of 125 mph is lurking 1,415 m east of Hilo while Gilma is expected to weaken gradually it could still bring additional rain and winds later in the week so folks be prepared for the potential impacts of both hurricanes follow any guidance from local authorities and remember hurricane season runs through November 30th stay safe out there and keep an eye on the weather updates subscribe and hit the bell for more updates on Hurricane hone and other breaking news thanks for watching take care
