next guest is making hockey history and we are so proud of her as the first ever American female selected in the Western Hockey League Draft one of the highest levels of Junior Hockey in Canada that could lead her on a path to the NHL and what's even more amazing is that she's only 15. joining us now is Portland Winterhawks ice hockey goalie Morgan Stickney congratulations to you you were just selected in the 10th round of the 2023 WHL draft I mean when you heard the news what went through your head um it was kind of surreal I mean it's at the dream cam true all my friends were came into my room and they were all hugging me and we were all celebrating it was it was so cool and you know growing up you played on the all boys ice hockey team what was it like playing with the boys any pressure or were you like I got this uh it was second nature to me because I had never played girls hockey so I was like I got this I love it I love it and now first of all I have to ask because I just shared with you I'm a hockey mom also so what was your mom like does she stand behind you in the Ned does she go and watch from a far away because it's a lot of pressure when you're the mom of a goalie which thank God I was not yeah she she always tells me how she thinks she's more nervous than I am that your mom is here your cousin your mom and your brother are sitting over on the couch there they're so proud tough as Nails I'm sure and now that you know you've been drafted so many girls looking at you as a role model you know with with this new kind of Spotlight on you what what would you say to someone who thinks they're involved in a sport there's not a lot of girls or women in or they just you know see your story that's a good question um anything is possible and now that like uh I did it and a girl last year I mean it's totally doable and just to keep going at your dream and one of your Idols is ice hockey Olympic gold medalist Alex California capellini what do you like about her she uh she was like the first woman I had her Jersey going up and I went to one of their games and after the games we had a meet and greet and she was the sweetest ever and she signed my jersey and ever since I've looked up to her well guess what she has a message for you let's listen hey Morgan it's Alex cavalini congratulations on getting drafted to the who by the Portland Winterhawks you should be so proud of yourself and I know that you're going to continue to just trailblaze for the future women in the sport of hockey and I know that you're going to continue to do great things and I also remember when I met you a few years ago that you're asking me if you should continue to play Boys Hockey or not and I think you've exceeded all expectations there so continue to do amazing things good luck I'm cheering you on whoa so what do you think about that that's so cool isn't it cool remember me oh yes and use that picture when you were so tiny I actually met Alex when she was Alex Rigsby playing for Wisconsin and she's a great Ambassador for the sport as usual and the best of luck to you we're so proud of you thank you for what you're doing thank you all right well hey there GMA fans Robin Roberts here thanks for checking out our YouTube channel lots of great stuff here so go on click the Subscribe button right over right over here to get more of Awesome videos and content from GMA every day anytime we thank you for watching and we'll see you in the morning on GMA
