Wilson RS from Black TV hey folks how's it going hey very well how you doing good you know when I first saw the trailer I said this could be a movie that I've seen before but it's not you know they did you Justice by giving you a lot more layers to do what was the appealing aspect of the script that each of you said yes I can do this Aaron oh I mean for me I can't say that my first response was I can do this but my first response was I'm going to give every thing to try and do this um and you know in my in my journey today um I've been very fortunate to work with tremendous phenomenal writer directors um you know Barry Jenkins uh G Davis Clement Virgo and of course uh Jeremy sonier who is in my view one of our greatest filmmakers alive today um so I think I really have to I Really have to give my gratitude and my appreciation uh to Jeremy because when you are in the process of creating something having the individual who birthed the entire concept and wrote Every nuance and beat of this script there and present to tell you when you get it right when you get it true and when you also hit a bum note is is uh is a Priceless experience and opportunity so he really guided me he really poured into me and and uh helped me create this Terry Richmond that uh I just deeply love um and and and celebrate you know and I was also very grateful uh and and privileged to have just tremendous collaborators who do everything in their power to serve the scene um I think that's what all of our intention was first and foremost to serve the scene it's not about me or you or any one individual it's about us collectively and the scene is what serves the stories of each character collectively so just to have the collaborators that I was blessed to have was um was a tremendous honor uh to learn from and and to engage with you know Sophia you're not playing the danam on distress you know we like to think that these movies have that type of role but it's not you know what led you say okay I can take on this world because it's not what it seems I think similarly to to what Aon has said I I have to I also feel tremendously honored to have worked with Aon and shared all of my scenes with you basically and James Cromwell which is so cool hey big James and yeah I think it that safety that we had on set and and there were so many Nuance nuances to each character and to each scene and that is what really that is why I wanted to be part of this story I'd been waiting to tell a story like this I didn't know how much I needed it um and like you said this damsel and distress I think you see oh it's an it's an action film but it's a Jeremy son film like you don't know what's going to happen you don't know who's going to do what and when and summer is this very unassuming at first young woman and as the film continues these layers are pulled back of her life and and she has to face is she going to continue just taking care of her own self her own life her own future or is she going to use her power as an individual um as a friend as an ally to write what she sees is wrong and I think that that speaks it's spoke to me as a as a as a citizen as an actor I was like this is such a these circumstances are so intense and um it will be so much fun to to pull back and explore it's diving into territory that I've never gone into before um but ultimately the the story of a as a whole I hope people are so entertained by it but also inspired and and see these characters as the Brave the brave folks that they are but the unassuming unexpecting characters that they are that you too can be a Terry richment maybe not with all the special skills but at least like a summer where if you choose to do the right thing you can have a really big impact on the people around you I think audiences will be surprised by the way it plays out not what it is so I want to say congrats on the rose let's see more of you down the road in different projects I'll talk to you later on take care thank you wion from Blackman TV Mr Johnson uh I was just talking to about of college we were going over your phography your TV work and all that stuff and you're like everybody has watched a number of your project so when it comes to this what led you to say yes to taking on this film uh you know I uh I love the director um Jeremy sonier who is he's an Ure he's just a a great filmmaker and he's a writer filmmaker and that makes him u a unicorn in this business uh and I loved the uh uh the I loved the idea of taking what seems to be like an old racial Trope and turning it on its ear and letting you discover that it's something much more than that and and that um uh uh much more in the storytelling not the not the actual Act uh the the the the the thing about this story is that you think it's one thing and then as you get on the journey with them it turns into all of these other things and then you realize that oh my God this this uh this this sheriff is responsible for all of these parishes and the fire departments and the you know the the squads and all that stuff and basically he's become the the the financial Guru for all these parishes to keep all these high schools going and and the people going and stuff like that and he's doing it and the only way then he knows how anybody that comes through Shelby Springs gets robbed and no matter if you're blue red green or purple so you know the trailer makes it seem like it's a one no character but it's not right no baby no you know so like so we're supposed to have empathy for this guy even though he's not it's not what it's seem you know this could have easily B like you mentioned a film that we've seen in the old days but it's much more than that they actually injected in story here we're like okay it's not what it's GNA be yeah yeah it's kind of a uh you know I I I think people that are that tune in to watch it for that purpose are going to be pleasantly surprised that we've taken something that normally it normally I wouldn't touch uh cuz I clear cly um um uh and then but I found the cleverness in being able to use something like that to show people oh kind of caught you you thought you were gonna see something now I'm gonna show you something else definitely you know here's the thing so like as I Wasing saying earlier we were talking about you come September 16 will be 40 years from when Miami rice came on you know and you've done a lot of work and so when you're working with Aaron in this particular movie you know and he's now starting up you know he's had a few projects not as money as you you know uh what can you say is the lasting power to staying in this game and still being relevant be good man be good and um uh learn how to you know I my father used to tell me he he'd say listen you want to keep a job make yourself useful find something to do make yourself useful do something extra do and so my whole career I've just found a way to make myself useful you know you mentioned Jeremy and for as many projects you've done and the people you've worked with I always say l actors can never stop learning there's anything new or different you got from Jeremy's direction that you can take along to any other project you may do next yeah it's a it's a fantas fantastic thing you know uh it's an interesting uh thing somebody mentioned earlier that you know directors don't get to go on other director set and watch how they work but we actors see how all the directors work and we know how we know the good ones have a similar film sense have a similar style of working have a similar um and that's always a joyful thing for us and Jeremy is is an aour director who is uh um uh who is also learning the value of have of using the experience and talent of of uh uh collaborating with the actors who've been doing this time or two Mr jonath Mr John it's been a pleasure to speak with you obviously let's hope we can see you more projects that we can continue a conversation wherever you're at take care St we'll talk down the road thank you bro
