Gary Leon Ridgeway known as the Green River Killer terrorized Washington state by targeting vulnerable women including sex workers and runaways his first five victims were found in the Green River which is how he earned his Infamous nickname after strangling his victims Ridgeway discarded their bodies in Hidden spots across the wooded Landscapes of King County throughout the 1980s and 1990s he is believed to have murdered at least 71 teenage girls and women leaving families devastated in 1984 police sought insights from incarcerated serial killer Ted Bundy who shared chilling theories about the motivations of Ridgeway Bundy suggested that if police found a fresh grave they should stake it out and his hunch paid off when Ridgeway was caught red-handed following his capture Ridgeway was incarcerated and sentenced to life in prison where he remains to this day
