Episode Three

nothing stresses me out more than Georgia than black clouds and a tarp over a brand new house well not brand new not yet but I've got ceilings in here that I don't want to drop so I reckon I've got about 5 minutes before the rain comes or otherwise those new ceilings are going to get dropped all right Jordy can I grab a rope over here mate oh man those clouds are [Music] coming [Music] yep all right I'm getting out of the rain I'm getting too old for [Music] this do you think it was smart that we like decided to replace our roof in Winter I mean we didn't have a choice right cuz we had to get the job done but obviously rain was an issu well rainbow was always going to be an issue cuz it was in the middle of winter we've just removed the asbestos roof we've got uh Mitch coming in in a couple of weeks we're waiting for the materials to get so there was a period there where we just had TS over the house which is quite normal in a [Music] renovation what surprises me the most when you demo these small bathrooms is that the old concrete is literally 30 to 40 m thick that's not sufficient for bathrooms these days so what we're doing is all this Timber work that we're lifting up at the moment this is going to be the shower recess so there's going to be a wall here and a walk here so you come in through the door and you step into your shower so to do that we need to get all the plumbing pipe in Stitch you and then we need to concrete now the concrete that we're pouring is going to be anywhere between 75 to 85 M thick which is more than enough for a modern bathroom once the all the timber work has been lifted we cut these joists we clear them out the way cuz there's a new wall coming up here and luckily for us there are some concrete footings over here which this wall will then be supported off those concrete footings so we get rid of these bricks here so then the concrete will flow all the way down now what we're doing here is we're getting a 800 mil strip drain at the end so the concrete will have a four towards the back [Applause] [Music] for the Rena we've got a couple of young guys helping us out don't we run that's right we've got Jack and jordano and jordano is my oldest son and it's good to have him because he's been through he has every single of our every single one of our Renovations I remember him laying bricks like when he was a little kid it's cheap labor mate it's family mat rates there's like not there's nothing left of this house it like really worries me when when I come here did your kids come ready for work you look very clean hey Charlotte are mate this is a bathroom so this is the master bedroom and we're going to put a door at the end of that wall then you're going to walk in where Jack's standing there's going to be a vanity unit that's where you do your hair then there's going to be a little toilet there and then this is going to be the shower in here roughly washing my hair in here give me a couple weeks and we're done is that right Stevie Stevie Stevie yes it's me it's me the one you bite and scratch in the morning renovating a house is chaotic in itself and looking after kids and school holidays and trying to get the job done in a time frame we thought why not buy a puppy because hey why not like we're not busy easy enough puppies are easy what that free time that we have so yeah we we bought a dog um her name is Stevie and um hey I forgot how hard workies are God they're like little kids the chaos why not back at my old stopping ground Beacon choosing lights for our renovation I love this part of the project cuz I get to be creative let's go guys this is taking me back takes me back I feel like I'm back on the Block and it's not triggering me in a bad way so I guess that's positive right I think I'm just going to go two of these with the brass yeah I also feel like it's more of like an organic aesthetic whereas I'm not really doing that in these bathrooms you're going yeah so I almost feel like let's just go the Frosted maybe I'm going to Chuck that in the master and then not do any W scers if that's like a feature of the room yeah and then going through into the on Suite those balls make sense with that so what else do we need to get then need to look at kitchen pen that's a big one I was thinking something Bly yeah and I think it would actually look really good in our in the style of house that we're doing I think it makes sense love going to Beacon because I am such a visual person so I need to be in a showroom I need to see the products hanging and then I need to see how they all work together a lot of people can design just off going on a website and seeing a picture that's not me I need to see touch feel compare contrast and so yeah I love I love a little bacon visit and I've got to say you are very good at doing it because that would be my worst nightmare walking into a shop like that and picking lights for a whole renovation that actually hasn't happened so what thank you you're are quite talented hey guys is everything under control here yes do you feel like you're in a safe space what's our allowance for T and uh never a safe space as you allowance is about 23.6 M 25 mil well I work in millimet I don't know about you yeah that that's the working back that's 100 off the wall and it gets to you to wear 1,200 there which then gives you how much for the toilet 900 is that good yeah it's good space yeah and then 1,000 for the bathroom yeah perfect guys this almost like I planned it with dimensions and stuff oh my God at what point do you want Georgia to go underneath the house to actually actually when it starts raining a little bit more probably we need that water to come in I didn't like ha today good job great PL great plans I think we're going to be losing these ceilings uh-oh I see lots of water on there I thought I was going to have a good day today but halfway through it started raining and we've got leaks all over the Renault we've got leaks in the three bedrooms where we actually not dropping the ceilings because we've only got like an 8° pitch the wind's blowing the tops out water's getting in this could be major catastrophe so why am I smiling is because if I don't smile I'm just going to cry it's as simple as that there one way to water your [Music] palms hey guys it's a really good T today because we've got the boys from AMC metal roofing here and they are finally replacing our roof and that means no more leaks it's been raining over last two or three weeks it's had a to on it we've had leaks all over and we've managed to save the three ceilings in the three bedrooms thank God they're saved they are saved they sa hallelujah it's a good day guys we're doing color Bonds in the trim Deck Profile and the color is surf M and I'm so impressed with how fast these boys are smashing this job out we're going to be done we're going to be finished this whole renovation in like two weeks R settled down and the think we almost didn't buy this house because of that asbest I know it was a big deterr anyway there you go get the job done right guys can we talk about this I feel like this definitely needs a conversation well this is run Lux mate it's new to the market it's an incredible Skylight I I don't I don't know what you're talking about right but basically all it is it's a frameless glass shower screen right that is going on top you build a bit of framework like the the roof will roughly be about there 150 200 down all of the will be J rocked internally what could possibly go wrong Mitch Mitch thing it is or has R just made it up definitely a thing it's a thing that Ron has not made up so what we're doing is we're bringing in all that beautiful sunlight outside above your I get the need for natural light and I love the idea so this is just a cost effective Skylight 100% but My worry is around like the flushing on the ceiling and stuff so like where does the water go me you just flush around it yeah straight off to Scarlet onto the roof be no dramas no dramas so how much this is $180 $180 couple of bucks in Timber now there might be a bit of really good Roofing guy who knows what he's doing we'll find out there there might be a little bit of engineering involved for the framework but aart from that you've got yourself free sunlight okay now this is painted it's it's we don't have anything I'm going into production I'm going into business with Mitch so this is going to be our side geek which is like that means you got you got to work with Ronnie are you prep that's what come here see that's what you want from a business partner huh all right you heard it your folks you heard it in your I knew I needed a skylight in our kitchen because we had removed a massive window so it was very important to get natural light in and we were trying to think of coste effective ways that we could do that and of course the Ron Lux you know it's a go-to skylighted these days absolutely at the end of the day for like 7 800 bucks we had anaz and it was a massive Skylight it was about 1,700 about 50 which is huge and um it was within our budget our ceilings are 2.7 High yep yeah there's a small extended B A that's always a good one not too fancy that works too fancy in 2.7 no too fancy too fancy too fancy like what's got two plane that's workers own what I show you around the corner I've got that in no I've got that in our own home we got this one no where that's Coen step and then the other W10 W10 which is down here so many to choose from that's what happens yeah lot of choices do we like that one that's more of a statement on the ceiling isn't it cuz it's wider does this sit on the ceiling yeah and that's on the wall That's ceiling that's the wall yep but it's a lot better choice that's a better choice hides more infections yeah d 10 it is see look how easy I mean just making decisions on the Fly is this how you is this are you the test no I just feel like people don't need antennas anymore oh my God this is a this is a rental darling give me your phone 98% of houses in Perth have antenna phone this is where functionality next argument where do you want this light for for where do you want the light for the on Suite because we've had to relocate it because of the Skylight I feel really stressed now I'm like so heated it's just let's just ask sui uh where the where where we want this light not Suri it's sui see s i not s please pick a location yeah okay so fan there and then maybe just a light here and a light there okay next argument next bathroom let's go this is where you go wrong you start making decisions without these are design choices design choices not Rond dog choices okay but you need to look at pointing sck from a real estate point of view we're renting these houses out George there's a good chance that people watch TV just like we watch TV there's also a good chance that people don't so the compromise the compromise is a PowerPoint down here cuz I'm going to put it like most people would have some sort of a tall boy in their bedroom and if they want a TV they can sit the TV on top of their tall boy you run a little cord down and you plug it in if you put a PowerPoint there and people don't have a TV they're lying in their bed staring at a PowerPoint in the middle of a wall 6 months I dealt with this 6 months full time every single day you're saying a snippet Blake is that correct H okay yes thank you all right we'll just put the power points down there so I really like Blake cuz I think you know I think he knows who's in charge so the air conditioning units one here one there yeah because we're going to have to have cabling come up here yeah let's talk about the hot water system where because it is massive did we over Speck on the hot water system no darling cuz it's an electric hot water system with a heater in it the hot water system will go in that corner yes so but what what's the problem well he needs to um Blake needs to run you said it's massive so what's the problem like how big is it probably probably to about probably to about there from the ground so all we need to do is then just wave yes cuz I don't want to see it from the street that's the worst thing okay all right maybe that's an opportunity for those cool Breezeway blocks or something yep
