Miner their Setter multi-time All-American so is ellot ruin on the outside Sammy Francis could be won this year the Wisconsin starting lineup change from yesterday CC Crawford gets the start in the middle reigning Player of the Year nationally Sarah Franklin at outside Julia Orel in that spot as well they're set by Charlie ferringer the freshman and Michelle McMahon has more on her well yeah Connor it's no easy feat to step into the Big 10 at this level to set as a freshman but Charlie ferer she's been in a volleyball gym since she was in diapers and she was essentially destined for greatness due to the resume of her parents check out this resume her mom Joyce she won a national championship with Long Beach State back in 1993 she was an Olympian in 2012 and her father Matt played volleyball at Stanford won a national championship there and also as the assistant coach to The Men's National Team bringing home the bronze for more on that we'll dive into it a little later Conor Michelle she starts her third Collegiate match with a fast tempo set to the middle for Crawford and and that into the crosscourt dug by shoeer for Wisconsin Franklin with her first look a powerful swing that's run down in the back by E par Kurt to keep the point alive back to Crawford and an emphatic start for the Badgers this was the exact start this Wisconsin needed they relied on Sarah Franklin so heavily yesterday she got now nearly 40% of their sets and this is going to be a defensive battle both sides are going to have to lock in both in the front court and the back we're going to see a lot of big swings today yes we are you started this broadcast by talking about the middle play for the Badgers yesterday ellia Ruben their star outside hitter blocked twice and the big front line for Wisconsin arrives Wisconsin's front line is absolutely massive you have a player like Carter Booth up front stands at 67 a little bit shorter with that Setter in the front Court Charlie ferer just 5'11 so expect Stanford to continue to push that outside set when fur is up front corded after her kill to open it up service error one other switch that Wisconsin made today was switching the L1 and L2 positions so that means that we'll see Sarah Franklin right closer to the setter meaning she's in the front Court two times while Charlie ferrer's up front too it's the change orchestrated by Kelly Sheffield 12 year he's LED Wisconsin to four big 10 titles in The Last 5 Years as well as four final fours in The Last 5 Years leading them to the 2021 National Championship F bringer on the second contact finds a spot right away Wisconsin looks like they're in pretty good Rhythm especially in the back court they're taking care of the easy balls that's not something they did particularly well in their matchup last night against Texas those easy plays have to be on the money they have been to start and after fur Bringer's kill she serves passes off Target so Miner has to scramble in the block there for Robinson and Boo and now with Robinson on the right side this becomes an even more difficult block to get through she provides so much stability over there so much height over there and she does a phenomenal job regardless of if she's in the Middle where she played yesterday or on the right setting it up Wisconsin with this new look lineup go out at after back-to-back losses to open up the season both against top 10 teams and that sails Stanford yesterday gutted one out in five sets they beat Minnesota 1513 in the final set Kevin hambley also a national championship winning coach 2018 2019 Stanford went backto back at the top of the sport in women's college volleyball American Center Miner out to Reuben clever cord's passing is definitely one thing to focus on especially from ellia ruin who was really targeted against their match against Minnesota she passed phenomenally and that just speaks to how good of an all-around player she is you see 19 kills 13 digs but she was their best passer passing nearly 70% in system the Conta 60% is pretty good those are Leo type numbers that's even a lead for a labero way higher than most Leos too bur Brer up to the net for booth and rattles it down throughout this match really important to watch Wisconsin's balance last night we saw Sarah Franklin take 42% of Wisconsin's swings she took nearly 70 hits last night they need to find a little bit more balance so that if they have to go to Franklin it's opened up and she has more scams to hit through you're talking Sarah Franklin here she is serving pass came from Ruben Francis had to adjust coming off her big day in the middle yesterday Bo pushes overpass easy chance for OG the Leber and Reuben down the line draws a touch and has a kill for Stanford great outside battle in this matchup Sarah Franklin the reigning National player of the year for Wisconsin oh it's going to be so much run Sarah Franklin is one of the players to watch in college volleyball the way that she can completely take over a match is absolutely insane we saw her do it all last season and when she's healthy expect her to do it again this season how about that load that she carried yesterday that's as big of a load that she's had to carry since she was at Michigan State early in her college career and I talked to Kelly Sheffield about it earlier in the day and he said you know we're actually okay with those kind of numbers which sounds crazy when you have one player taking about 40% of your swings he said we've had players take you know a 100 swings before and Franklin's a player that can carry that load and she'll get her kills on it but she hasn't had to in the past couple years because of the balance that Wisconsin is sat on offense Robinson strike down hello putting a hole in the floor dein Robinson watch out if you are on the receiving end of that this is the strength that Deon Robinson brings no player wants to be left one-on-one with that if you weren't awake already as a Stanford back throw Defender you are now a little crossed up in the passing scene o able to get away with cow and off the left hand Crawford with her second kill really smart decision from The Freshman Setter Charlie ferer identifying that Cammy Miner the right front blocker for Sanford was all the way on the other side of the court so she knew that block was going to be late smart decision very imaginative freshman Setter Charlie ferringer short for oy Miner with a set for Francis that connection was great yesterday looks nice and tight there these are two players Sammy Francis and Camy Miner her Setter that have had three years together already to develop that connection Sammy Francis has been dealing with injuries throughout her career but when she's healthy this is one of the most lethal slide attacks in the entire country part of the middle tandem with freshman Lizzie Andrew who checks in here Franklin was tracking that serve all the way to the end line and out errors are definitely something to watch for on Sanford side in that five set match against Minnesota yesterday they had 39 27 on attack and 12 service errors that's a big Focus for Stanford to clean it up [Music] today yet still pulled it out one in five sets against the top 20 Minnesota team back to the slide dug by Robinson out of the back row typically a good net presence but Robinson getting down per dug by Franklin he puts up a high ball and then attacks and that's dug by Kawa Kur rattles it and Franklin called for a double contact and new to college volleyball this season a change of those double rules so doubles have been eliminated but only it stays on your side of the court so that ball can be as messy as you want but if you take it ball over the net that's when you'll get called for the double contact the idea is if you double it can only impact your own attack exactly you're not putting up a junk ball for the other team [Applause] right you know one other rule we want to let people in on that you're seeing a lot early in these first couple matches for Wisconsin as Kurt puts that away you'll see that players in the opposite sit color jerseys for Wisconsin two of them sub in and out g j gin and also Sage damro that's new to college volleyball season new rule with the two labero system you'll see sage damro in on serice GJ gin will play defense when Wisconsin is serving you can only have one on the court at the same time a Sanford misses that serve that's why they're switching in and out cuz you can continually switch them as often as you'd like it does not count as a sub and you'll see this one way one comes in as serve one comes then when you're receiving another way you can also use it is if your labero is in a very good server you can have another really good server come in for them most coaches we've talked to early in the season said no I'm not going to mess with that but Kelly Sheffield likes to experiment and that's overpassed and out by gim Kelly Sheffield one of the most creative minds in this entire country we saw them go to the 62 over the last two years something that not a lot of programs go to really successful for them but he's constantly tinkering with lineups and trying new things just to figure out what works for his Squad par Kurt whistles a serve out on Stanford side of the net you will not see them change their labero Ogie has been a two-time conference Setter of the year or excuse me labero of the year they also had the setter of the Year Cammy Miner but no need for Kevin hambley to swap in and out here's olvy with the first Contact and Stanford within two that ball dances along the net on Wisconsin side and Ela OG is definitely a player that you do not want to get the ball on when you're serving she is a phenomenal passer if you're serving up against her and ellia Ruben you need to go for the other outside in this case number 15 e par do labero Ser received and that's out oh did draw a touch it touches any part of the body or finger on the way by in the block it counts so flip that point over to Wisconsin already seeing a lot of creativity from The Freshman Setter Charlie furer really pushing these middle sets even about 10 ft off the net good location for Carter Booth barely clipping that finger Francis was in position but off her finger nice line shot there Jordan Harvey the opposite Sanford wanted a lot more right side production today because Wisconsin's front line is so massive with Devin Robinson Carter booth and CC Crawford up front those outsides provide just a shorter block on the right side so getting Jordan Harvey going and the slide is important this has been a spectacle Jordan Harvey serving Johnson would like to get her off the line and they side out right away with a player back there that had seven service Aces for Stanford yesterday Jordan Harvey was absolutely insane from the service line she drives the ball back so well and really targets the passers in their shoulders it becomes really difficult in servery when you have to pick a side if the ball's coming right at your face ouch yeah ouch she's bringing heat back there [Music] scary uben off speed sh series got there but out seen Reuben twice now use that off speed and Reuben yesterday was all power all the time we saw her just take rip after rip and this is going to be a part of her game especially with a big blocker like Devin Robinson up front you might see a little more creativity and off speed from her a little bit of both to start four kills pellia ruin in the first set and Counting bringer retreating Bad series dug by Reuben Kurt Cross Court a Whistler it's a big swing from a red shirt freshman e par Kurt this ball out of system and when it's out of system meaning the setter is off the net the defense knows exactly where the ball's going so she had two big blockers waiting on her and she still wasn't afraid to take a massive rip at it to the back corner player that has a lot of international experience into the neet for Ruben eard KK playing at that second outside position Emily because of injury Julia blov will be the second outside when healthy she's weak to we with an injury right now yeah really tough to the Sanford team they don't have a lot of depth at that position it's really just the three of them and if they do get into a pickle he did say Jordan Harvey could play that position if needed over pass joust won by miner Flex on him Cammy Miner yeah you love when your Setter goes up and gets that joust often times when you do see joust up at the net meaning two players are going up for it looking like they're blocking feels like nine times out of 10 said are doing that so are you going to change the tune of your social media campaign Justice For leros Justice for Setters no it's Justice for Leber always Connor come on back set Robinson by U and Kurt another big rip at it Chad series got it on Wisconsin side Kurt rolls it that's a high IQ play from a young player to see the defense on the other side unfold and how spread out they were on that play Rolling it right to the middle of the court is so good cuz it's between every single player first tie of the [Applause] [Music] set Miner back for KK travels around the coverage from Franklin slide Andrew and out so to the first timeout four top 20 teams in the country here this weekend Texas and Minnesota will be next we're all tied up at 15 in set one between the cardinal and the batterers it's always fun when these programs meet it doesn't happen very often the last time they met it was a 2019 National Championship that Stanford won and it's crazy that we haven't seen these two programs meet up since then it's kind of a treat and even better that's it's a top 10 matchup that was a senior class for Stanford that won three national championships in four years insane I mean the dominance that they had with a player like Catherine plumber who of course went on then to play in the Olympics Morgan hence one of the best Collegiate liberos of all time was absolutely insane that match Emily that you mentioned was kind of a line of demarcation for these programs because Wisconsin got there with a young group of players that helped them win their National title a couple years later Sydney hilly was setting that team Dana Ry was early in her career so was Danielle Hart star middle the cross court for [Music] Crawford Franklin up with the net right back to Franklin threw a double block and a kill for Franklin both Wisconsin and Sanford seem to be transitioning these plays really well if that ball isn't perfect the setter finding something to do with it but that first touch is getting high enough to allow time to run that offense on both sides two passers are ready to snare it for Stanford and they score with Kirk impressive start for E par Kirk to this match yeah really impressive for a player that hasn't played the best so far through two matches but Kevin Hamley knows she's played a lot of international games despite if she's on the right or left side they feel really conf confident in setting her and she'll find her groove a match high five kills to begin for Park k and a really nice serve that earn Stanford the free ball and Reuben looked for high hands didn't get him out Point Wisconsin that's a missed opportunity for Stanford off of a free ball I don't know if that sets maybe your best set that you go with maybe try to keep running that slide like you talked about it's been working that right side or left side block rather for Wisconsin hasn't been the best so [Music] far Reuben down the line there was a touch there Wisconsin started to celebrate like there wasn't Kelly Sheffield has grabbed the green challenge card I think Charlie Ferrer the setter who was up there blocking just said no I I think I did touch it seems like she wasn't sure so might as well not burn a challenge one of those fun points where both teams think that they won the point goes to Stanford her Brer second contact Miner right there OG puts up the set with the tip and that's out Cardinal tied up again big point of eff emphasis for Wisconsin today was getting those middle attackers involved they've already done a great job of getting them involved in transition but out of service Eve they need to get a little bit [Applause] more Franklin with the big pop every time Sarah Franklin goes up and grunts at the ball you know she's putting a little extra juice on that one this is a signature from her ins system out ofst she is slicing that ball thumb down shot zone four to zone four as sharp as it gets can you impersonate that grunt for us we don't want to hear that that's that's the UL or [Music] [Applause] right she wants another and denied down the line by miner on blocked Franklin up fighting for it Franklin again Franklin crosscore it is money every time she's going up there with an open net to slice it down taking another look at this ball if this set is left inside these stford blockers have to do a better job of bringing that in whether it's the right front blocker a Setter or the right side they have to line it up and take away that power shot set up by Charlie febrer freshman Setter who uh comes from a really good volleyball backgrounds her dad has had a huge role in her volleyball life and AA Championship coincidentally enough at Stanford team that Charlie's playing time go back and watch your daughter we know that means a lot Conor back over to you oh that's great stuff Michelle mid interview Ace for Charlie too another tape buzzing serve from ferer Robinson down line for oy Miner off the net down the line Nice Shot Jordan Harvey Sanford finding way to continue to push that right side set when Jordan Harvey's up front so important and now on the back line This is where she can go off this is who Stanford wants back there when they're down in a set trying to push it to [Music] 25 big oom on that serve from Jordan Harvey after a big day back there yesterday yeah Harvey consistently drives that serve back that one little too driven back she was very aggressive in that seven a day yesterday also had five errors it was a go for it type day for [Applause] [Music] Harvey tough one for Stanford to turn off the tape but no problem ellia Ruben puts it to the floor now both teams in that red zone of volleyball meaning Point 20 on the key is to play as clean as possible but keep that power you have to stay aggressive but you have to balance that with keeping the ball in play because a game to five goes really fast especially if you're Stanford and you're down [Applause] to0 inside this Red Zone it's Reuben serving Shad series and that pass outside the antenna and unplayable big break for Stanford S as that serve looked like it was sailing out of bounds Wisconsin took it but a big break for Reuben on the service sign this one has to be in you could hear Wisconsin side saying out out out you can hear the whole bench saying it bad Series played it and Ruben's still back there damro and serve Reed and it's Boo whoa that was a heck of a set from Charlie furer 10 ft off the net that pass took her and she still forced the middle set Booth did a phenomenal job getting all the way off and getting that space with her Setter so she could have that full Runway to unload fur Brer known for really pushing it to get one-on-one for her hitters that time got an open now well coverage was there but not redirected by Reuben and set point coming for Wisconsin great Serve by goj gsin forcing that pass deep a better pass for Stanford allowing that Slide Attack to happen but good defense on Wisconsin [Applause] side we talked about the midd they might be running for governor in Wisconsin that's a a great shirt and a great towel that that Wisconsin fan is brought they'd certainly have a lot of votes in this state I think so if those two are going for governor Sarah Franklin might go for president if you're a bad Japan I think you got to think so I mean the way that she's playing and what she's done in her entire career if you're new to volleyball this is one of the players to watch the reigning ABCA National Player of the Year and showing exactly why today already 3 for eight hitting nearly 400 on the night doing a great job especially out of system managing the ball and finding ways to get kills and doing all that Emily about a year removed from what was a really scary situation for Sarah she was hospitalized with blood flots so volleyball obviously was not top of at that point in June 2023 when she was hospitalized with blood clots it was all about her health but then half a year later she's the national player of the year in college volleyball it's crazy to think for a player that in June was told she might never play college volleyball again to come back and play match one for the Badgers and finish that entire season and eventually end up as a national player of the year but she's dealing with an ankle injury right now that Kelly Kelly Sheffield has said she's about 80 90% but I she looks 100% to me just like she did last season she looks as fit as ever as powerful as ever and really as confident as ever as well type of player you buy a ticket to see in person when and while you can absolutely while she's in [Applause] college Francis crosscourt Wisconsin coming downhill on set point great get keep that alive with hary and then CT puts it away incredible response from Stanford the defense in the back court to keep that alive the quick bang bang play that you have to have to make a one AR stab at it and make it nearly perfect for Cammy minor to set that is incredible backourt defense well done by Jordan Harvey Michelle was listening in on the Kevin Hamley huddle there he said it's just the little details right now love the way we're competing but we have to execute those little details wanted his team to stay aggressive said we can come back and win this set trying to do it on a second set point for Wisconsin Robinson roll Miner on the back set to the back court and Wisconsin sends a free ball over and that's Point Stanford on the double has to stay on your side of the net that's a tough miscommunication on Wisconsin side one two players going for the same ball secondly you have a player mishandling that to put it over you're going to double it has to stay on your side but that serve at the end of the day it has to be in and this is a rotation that was content can struggle with with Franklin and Chad series passing next to each other that's where that ball needs to go does Stanford have a comeback Chad series is in server it's Franklin almost putting the set away Miner with the long string set and we are tied Stanford pritty again Stanford's defense is getting them and keeping them in this match in the back court flying around in these seems an incredible read from OT ruin back there to keep this ball alive then the Finish money Franklin was retreating her Brer wanted a piece of [Music] it Miner for Kur for the [Applause] lead lot of chaos happening on Wisconsin side during that play some miscommunications players trying to call the ball over each other Stanford looked cool calm and collected they got that free ball they knew exactly what to do with it now Wisconsin has emptied the tank on timeouts facing a Stanford set point Emily this is the first time Stanford has led in this set this is a team that knows how to play from behind you mentioned during that first set against Minnesota yesterday they came back down 2419 to tie it up at 24 and then eventually go into extra points this is a team that Kevin Hamley says I know that they can fight and he just wanted to see it and we did see that yesterday a 153 fifth set win for Sanford over Minnesota he found out his team can fight and now they have to do it against one of the top teams in the country but they also have to execute Kevin Hamley loving that fight yesterday and I'm sure he would Echo that same sentiment these last four points especially it's a 40 stand for run whisking away three straight set points for Wisconsin to get it tied to 24 and now leading for the first time in this set with a chance to take [Music] it another heart thumping first set from Milwaukee both matches yesterday felt like they had the chance to flip the match right off the Jump big point in set one and an ace ends it for Stanford comeback complete on the U service Ace we didn't lose on that one we played three balls that were going out of bounds and we double two balls that were're trying to go over the net here right we're playing great volleyball we just we we we have those types of Errors there there at the end so addressing the errors at the ends when Stanford scored five in a row to win it and they take it 262 24 here's Michelle on Stanford side Connor Kevin hambley was very pleased with the way his team fought that one he said when we keep the ball in the court we're winning the point we didn't do that the entire way through but don't be afraid to put the ball in an offw spot and just make Wisconsin play another ball he said hey look we can defend these guys just keep making them play one more ball make it a little bit cleaner and by the way before that Mike got into the Huddle on the Wisconsin side it was Orel that was very spirited with her teammates trying to get her teammates going saying don't give up every player on that bench was fired up on Wisconsin side so we the bear will be poked or we'll see how this one unfolds guys that is some drama to sink your teeth into to start set two the bear might be poked and over pass kill F Brer to get it started it was Orel from the end line really starting that off you can see that intensity play out in a very strong serve right away in the scene high level of Confidence from Kevin hambley in that report from the Stanford huddle and his defense saying we can defend these [Music] guys Harvey swing is out first two points to the Badgers Sanford side looking confident that there might have been a touch on there Hamley doesn't go for that challenge card maybe a little bit too early with the spirited emotional speech from orille in that huddle she's the one serving for Wisconsin playing back row again today roll from Franklin and Miner can't keep that up from Crawford that all started with a really good roll shot from Franklin you expect power from her all the time so when she throws in an easy roll shot it almost catches the defense off guard C Crawford just finish it off strong start for Crawford starting for the first time this season he's been a spot sub the first two matches for [Music] Wisconsin Sarah Franklin starting to celebrate cuz that ball hit hands we saw that a few times yesterday too she knew either when she had an open net or it was either a guaranteed point for her she was celebrated a little bit early but you love that confidence from a player like that she said aha I got you kind of a peekaboo celebration with what she said right in her Direction and an ace for Orel at one Stanford came back to win it first five in a row for the Badgers to begin this set number two course the Standford timeout and an immediate response out of the middle Lizzie Andrew perfect response from Stanford nailing that pass right away Orel is giving fits driving that Ball Deep the passers did a great job of calling it off early to allow that middle attack to [Music] run Crawford middle Ling out with the oneand Dig and a block strong from Reuben and Francis but out and Wisconsin has another kill with Crawford what a play for cc Crawford takes the first swing doesn't get it but then Works her butt off to get all the way back and run that slide again you also love to see the confidence that Charlie ferer has in that player Crawford started her career at Kansas couple years in the Big 10 now with Wisconsin leading them to the final four out of the middle last year over pass from Crawford here and put away by Harvey all started on a soft first touch from the middle Sammy Francis yeah really well played just that easy ball had to be right on the money Sanford again really using that right side attack during set one about 30% of their attempts came from that right side something they said was a big Focus for them against [Applause] [Music] Wisconsin puts that away Carter Boo has been so effective on that Gap set just a little bit further away from the setter about one or two steps it's right between the blockers so she has nearly an open Lane to get up and absolutely attack [Music] it we have not seen Anna smre for Wisconsin started the first two matches she is dressed part of offer getting more action today there's Franklin again smre did sit out the preseason exhibition for Wisconsin they played Bradley at home a few weeks ago being cautionary with hert today yeah still coming off of an ankle injury that she had earlier in the season and they feel really confident about having Deb Robinson over there too I mean she can play both positions so well looking on in uniform overpass kill there's Robinson all of a sudden Stamford server received not what it was during set one Wisconsin really up the Annie from the back [Applause] line just a beautiful serve right in the scam between the two passers forcing them to talk about it just a little bit longer bring it with the Deep serve and Reuben full shot kill Reuben's a player that continues to use the block time and time again even with a big one in front of her if it's not perfectly formed and she sees a hand out of place use it to send it out using that leverage of the Wisconsin block for Reuben's seventh kill busy day in the pin already 20 swings for Reuben Robinson out to the [Applause] antenna Deon Robinson on that right side is so effective because she not only runs like a true opposite in that higher Ball but she'll also run some slides like she does in this rotation chasing it down so you have two quick attacks coming at the same [Music] time putting the defense in the bind with booth and Robinson both run a match [Music] up Hur couldn't adjust it's outside the antenna Nazi Park her first mistake today she was 8 for 12 coming into this set just done an incredible job so far that said didn't really allow her to have any options available but she's been playing out of her mind so far hitter that looks like has an attitude of maybe when we're fully healthy I can keep my job as the second outside jul blov expected back in a few weeks with the hope for Stanford Francis puts it away the connection between Miner and Francis has been so good they've had so many years to work on it but especially behind the setter on that Slide Attack it's been so effective because Sammy Francis really has time to chase it down because it's so fast she uses that momentum into it to really slam it down that's what you were getting at earlier Emily right that counts as a right side attack in Stanford's book yeah and the production that Stanford wants it's the right side attack with the opposite but also from the slide attacker on the middle two on you inside Robinson chips the block this was a really smart decision from Trinity Chad series she recycled that ball meaning it was blocked but she knew that was going to happen she put it right into the block so they could easily transition it good highball and they could send dein Robinson right back on this opposite [Applause] attack back to the slide Andrew right into the lap of Franklin another shot off the hands for Robinson and was Johnson cruising in the second set Z Robinson really showing off her ball control she is a true middle but she does play that right side she played it all last season and to hit those roll shots is something you don't see middles do often but she has it down packed multi-time All-American between those two All-American picks sandwiched in a national championship big rip out of the back for Reuben a huge rip and they'll use Reuben in the back court as often as they like especially on that thck attack meaning a fast or quick out of the middle back they love to get that going so they have one more attack in the back court as [Music] well Cammy Miner Crawford with authority Charlie ferer with a one-handed set you don't often see that from a freshman Setter just such a good player in her first season of college ball watch how athletic this is it's so ult she's saving this ball from an overpass and gets it perfect for cc Crawford to hammer we asked Wisconsin if there were nerves for furrer in her first couple of matches Kelly Sheffield said nope it was a Sunday at the beach for the nasty one-handed set and then an ace to Robinson Matt pbrer loves it the badger home crowd loves it volleyball here in the US PVF just had their first season last year league one volleyball also coming in this winter he'll be coaching some Badger Legends Lauren Carini Danielle Hart maybe thinking about getting his player on his team in a few years a potential another Badger Legend if she's making plays like that time and time again Tammy Thomas iara will be on his team as well TTA played for Johnson that's starting January 2025 Pro volleyball Federation year 2 athletes unlimited there's also grown throughout the United States as well so lots of options outside of college volleyball on top of this great [Music] [Applause] Sport and that's down for Andrew that's a really big answer that Stanford needed right out of the gates they down found so much in this set already but what we found out yesterday and what we saw at the end of this first set is Stanford's going to continue to fight back it doesn't matter the score this team is going to continue to stay [Music] competitive oh wow my goodness that serve from E par HT that was one of the best serves that we've seen so far throughout this showcase I mean the pace that she's bringing it at a hybrid serve it's not quite a float serve not quite a Top Spin just driving back taking out [Music] passers another blistering serve from KK earn Stanford's offense a chance of O setting it up and backto back points for Stanford they're going to have a tough time getting her off the service L the back line for Wisconsin really needs to talk though about whether these serves are in or out because they're coming so fast they might be driving out early communication is [Music] key another one that's right in the lap of damro coming in hot bump set for Reuben overpass to the middle for Andrew three in a row for Stanford Wisconsin's front line needs to do a better job of getting out of this rotation as quickly and POS as possible that's two perfect passes right in a row off of a really really tough serve they have to be able to get that first ball side out a three-point serving run for Kurt four in a row overall for Stanford and a timeout for Wisconsin before this run started Emily you're saying that Stanford is always going to fight 10 points down seemed like a little bit of a tall task but not after what they've done the last two days coming back in sets I don't think this team cares what the score is they're going to continue to fight and fight especially when you're coached by someone like Paul and I think he always just gives me so much great wisdom and I'm just so happy to have him in my corner it's really really a blessing awesome Dana well congratulations on Silver congratulations so happy to have you here yeah thank you so much Conor back over to you Michelle thank you always great to hear from Dana and Kelly Sheffield was over in Paris to watch Dana Redkey in Team USA this summer he said of course he wanted to let his former players do their thing and kind of be hands off he said the one advice he gave Dana redy don't feel like you have to text everybody back the attention is going to be huge playing in the Olympics so it wasn't even volleyball advice going into that mentorship that re you mentioned Franklin out there's our girl I got to say in terms of texting she seemed really excited about that silver medal but I got a text from her during the Olympics and she was talking about just how excited she was to get a selfie with Steph Curry that was one of the things that she said was an absolute highlight that was a flex by you by the way her head coach tells her don't text people back she's a good [Music] friend as sharp as it gets from Franklin well she keeps making swings like that she might find herself holding an Olympic of Medal near in the future so impressive even nearly at a system she can cut this ball inside the 10t line that is so difficult to do when this ball is not tight on [Applause] net dipping serve from Crawford Ruben off the net stayed with it off the block Harvey big rip out it coverage from Crawford put the body on the line and Stanford within six trying to make this climb back Stanford continuing to fight now they have Jordan Harvey back on that end line didn't have a long service run during set one but we saw what she could do against Minnesota she put it seven Aces back there there watch the movement on the [Applause] serve that is dizzying trying to pass that serve Stanford trying to keep her back there F Brer for Franklin will not allow that to happen quick side out for the Badgers man Franklin's ability to get kills in tough situations is so impressive she's falling back on this swing and she still manages to get nearly a full arm swing and find the the kill long prefer Brer you think Franklin's the best out of system hitter in the country right yeah I think by far she is I mean her ability to really track that ball even when she knows out a system that there's going to be two Big Blocks in front of her some teams are throwing up three blocks in front of her she's still able to find clean kills against that it's so [Applause] [Music] impressive service didn't get it clean there's c big start to the night rolls on for car K eart KK continuing to make a name for herself didn't necessarily have the best hitting day yesterday hit 042 against Minnesota that is not the case today we're seeing SK high high numbers from her hitting over 600 tied for the match high with Nine Kills with ellia ruin both outsides going to work for Stanford back to her got a touch managing to get swings and kills in different ways too it's not just all clean kills cross quarter down the line she's using the block really well in front of her once down 10 here standord is once again they've cut it to four and Franklin puts a pause to the comeback for now she's putting the team on her back right now finding ways to get kills even as she enters the back row look for Charlie fering going to continue to get her going there's another swing Charlie ferringer really pushing that Tempo it's kind of a mid system not perfect not out of system a little bit quicker once again it's Kurt with an 11th kill I mean she's absolutely electric today and this is a player again she red shirted last season this is just the third Collegiate match she's ever played [Music] in Kevin hambley feels like that experience with the Turkish national team will have her ready to play at a high level earlier than most it's still going to take a lot of time playing this schedule if you're Stanford tonight showing out Johson the first to 20 going back to Kurt it's been so important for her to play with the Turkish national team and that's a team that has become one of the best in professional volleyball she played for the club penachi one of the Premier clubs in the entire world so she's learning from and playing with the best competition and now that's translating to the college game and less specialization in the international game playing six rotations from a young age specialization positionally that is international game you get six subs [Music] for and Wisconsin is closing in on the Finish Line trying to get this match tied CC Crawford working so hard today moving side to side so well not guessing where that Ball's going dein Robinson setting that up beautifully [Music] four nothing in blocks Wisconsin's way on two Cammy Miner with a smart shot really smart decision to go up and take this ball over especially when it's tight in your front Court as a Setter it's important to establish yourself as a threat so that the blockers can respect you [Music] pbrer picks out Crawford sliced Away by Reuben Johnson all over the roll damro be sets up Hardy drop for the second swing and it's pure this is the best at Charlie ferrer's play she is making sure to get those middles involved especially in transition when sometimes that's so hard to do but when the midd are going to work this hard to get all the way off you better set them in trans Robinson [Applause] Services really important for Wisconsin to score in this rotation in rotation four fur brers up front with try's Chad series and CC Crawford not the strongest front lines so they need some points in the backline as well Miner quick Tempo [Applause] set Miner's also done a really good job getting her middles involved but also moving them around the net they're not just all Quicks she's moving them in the Gap making sure to get that Slide Attack going not hitting right into the block of Wisconsin [Applause] that's out seeing that be a weapon for Kurt that serve but it brings up set point for Wisconsin [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Harvey brings up another set point we've seen this from Stanford before down 19 to 24 and set one against Minnesota they came all the way back to tie it up 18's probably no big feat for [Music] [Applause] them final five points of the first set allowed Stanford to come back not this time no fur Brer ends [Applause] it Wisconsin's offense is hitting a blistering 500 during that set just absolutely unloading got everyone involved in the offense playing clean efficient volleyball so back to Michelle's point about that Wisconsin huddle the bear was Poke it was Julia Orel according to Michelle giving that fired up speech and Wisconsin came out they took the first five points and end hit 529 Badgers are feeling good after that last set our team comparison is sponsored by ripet volleyball designed for female athletes engineered or volleyball a lot of offense happening on both sides of the Court [Music] set three off and rolling tied at one set a piece first to win three sets wins the match first four sets played to 25 if we get to a fifth we play to 15 give me a fifth just what team in order set the today Franklin starts set number three with a kill so far Wisconsin's offense has just been so clean they've only had three three errors on nearly 70 swings so far that's an insane number normally you see that error kind of go up as a match goes on but they've gotten cleaner and cleaner we went to intermission we were talking about our plan for the third set asked what you wanted to talk about you said Wisconsin [Music] cleanliness especially early on in the year that's usually when you see teams making a lot of Errors we've seen that from Stanford during their match match up against Minnesota they had 39 errrors coming into this third set they already had 17 so that's going to be a focal point for this team not to just hand wiscons some points first task for Stanford getting CC Crawford off the line and they do with Reuben Ruben's been so steady with them getting the bulk of the attempts on the outside so she almost always knows she's going to have that double block up especially when she gets thrown junk out a system she's been managing those swings really well about 2third of the attempts so far have come from Kurt and Reuben for Stanford left side heavy to this point that's down for Franklin why would you go away from it without she started this set yeah the way that she's working I mean it is absolutely lethal especially in two hitter rows when you have the middle going on a slide The Middle on the opposing side has to go with that middle and kind of Chase it or they're neutral that allows Franklin to be one-on-one you can't go one-onone against Franklin she's winning that every time M Franklin three Reuben one to open up the set ruing two it's an outside battle right now and this is really showcasing two of the best outsides right now in the country OT Ruben's a phenomenal one that's been playing next to some really good pin hitters on Sanford side over the last few years with Kendall Kip on the right side Katie beir the other outside for Sanford over the last few seasons this is really going to be a breakout year for Reuben head coach Kevin hambley saying she's relishing the opportunity to be the number one option who's going to miss Ki andbe but likes being that top Target a minor about UL Orel out of the back row they're going to going a little bit out there again she's not fully healthy enough to play front row as Kelly Sheffield would like right now but they have gotten her a few sets in the back court just to keep her going well the only player he mentioned specifically in his first hand to Michelle at intermission was Orel with the service pressure she put on the passers for Stanford to start Wisconsin strong in set [Music] two Ruben a tip Chad series there Robinson down that is Robinson's Power Shot Right Down the Line Stanford has got to take that away especially in a situation where the only player that could get this ball was Robinson or potentially Franklin in the back court but that ball has to at least get touched Francis slide puts it away 12et off the net Cy Miner pushing that Slide Attack you can see that's such a focal point of this offense get the right side going that includes the middle on this slide during the last set they were about 41% from the right side of the Court trying to attack that shorter blocker out there for Wisconsin Francis had the 14 kills yesterday that was her third in this match Bad series with too much on [Applause] [Music] it Reuben with an ace went after the Freshman Chad series that's a beautiful serve right in the scene between the Lao and the outside you could hear stage damro calling it off but the ball got on Chad series just a little bit too [Music] quick J spot over pass put away Francis with an open n and watch Wisconsin to start pushing Shad series over just a little bit more to let Sage damro take a little bit more of the Court and try to hide Chad series as a passer and really only allow her to focus on hitting Stanford served that area of the court with Chad series there at the end of set one on their run and come back to win it and a little bit outside Ruben that was a really good look at it Sage damrow right before that contact on the serve was made taking one more step closer to series to really take away that team just little nuances much much more than just Pat's set kill well that's one that's great from that end line came you can really see another over pass up said that ball was down Wisconsin and say no F Brer signal to the R1 he gave the R1 the Matumbo finger Wag that ball I agree looked up at least live going off the foot of [Applause] Franklin and then the foot of furer the hacky sack for furrer one two that get down in between them it looks like it might have touched playing hack attack over here I was going to say if not it could could have been four contacts then right it didn't look like it touched furrer on the way down I didn't know if it bounce between the players and got Franklin a second time we'll we'll check it out a couple more times Challenge from [Music] Wisconsin taking a look at this kind of left side of the screen right now so did this go down call on the floor was that Hit the [Music] Floor Emily you always talk about reading the body language on these challenges gin's body language pretty convincing that that's up it was up that looks up it looks like there is definitely about an inch or so of space between the ball and the floor right between SAR Franklin and GJ gaken this might be another good look at H that's actually looks down by that angle and never never [Music] mind Kelly just a showman you'll see some coaches just just touch the Green Card like I'm doing this full on [Music] Salute well guys it was pretty funny um why he did that little performance there the crowd behind him was chanting challenge challenge and then he raised it up as the showman he is and the crowd went absolutely nuts down here in the front row was pretty funny uh as for the challenge by the way they're zooming in right now on that leg right there on Wisconsin and my goodness that angle Michelle that looks up there but then we showed the higher angle it looked down well I'm looking at the angle what the referee is looking at as well with is which is a very zoomed in version of what you're seeing on your screens right now and the question on is whether or not that ball touched the floor in between the contact from the leg to the Tippy Toe of Sarah Franklin there and I'm not sure that ball did touch it's a this is a tough one I don't eny the referees on this one guys there was one look where I thought it might look up that one was a little bit tougher to tell again to overturn a challenge it has to be conclusive evidence so you have to be for sure that it either did or did not touch this could be a stand unless they saw something [Music] else that was a confirmed call by the way so it hit the floor so it hit the floor so Kelly Sheffield loses the first of two challenges and again sometimes these refs actually have cameras that we don't see [Music] [Applause] [Music] yeah it does oh no Conor that that looked like a toe stubbing for Frankin on that shot play [Applause] on pbrer adjusts to the pass ler tight to the net for CT overhead for Franklin keeps the point alive just for the moment so Lizzie Andrew sweeps that up good transition play from Stanford making sure to get the middle going in transition when it's so difficult to defend and you can almost always bet that that quick attack is going to be [Applause] [Music] one-on-one Robinson over the top of the touch if Robinson is going to continue to hammer that line time and time again Stanford's outsides have to set up one step to their left to take that away from her [Music] [Music] long set for Miner and connects with Kirk a really strong set from Cammy Miner using that shoulder strength diving backwards but still pushes this ball all the way out this pass brings her all the way to the right side of the court and you see that strength just biting it off to send it all the way out Kurt finishes It Off [Music] [Music] Miner with an ace split schacher and Dam dam has done a phenomenal job serving right in the seams of Wisconsin Ser just picking them apart this is a good look at it going cross body right between the learo and the right back passer it really becomes difficult when you have to call it off so quickly terrific run of Kevin hambley coached Setters continues in Trinity Shad series gets Miner off the service line with that kill and that was important to get a really good server off right away Trinity Shad series finding ways to power through a really tough block [Music] after the first kill of the day for Shad series it's oral serving back set is blocked Ely to the other pin hands on it again for Wisconsin with their block so they try the back throw and that door isn't open either I haven't seen too much back row for Stanford they're really using that front PT attack Wisconsin waiting on that one but Reuben just sends it right into the net J caught a piece of the tape usually tough balls to pass but Stanford scores anyway with Harvey a good side out for Stanford fending off some really tough serves on Wisconsin side finding ways to just battle through it pushing Camy Miner about 10 ft off but she can still run that Tempo offense to the [Music] outside is the strong serve of Kurt not quite as hot and heavy as it was in the first set she went on a service run and the block for Crawford and Franklin hands high to the sky oh both those players up front just waiting on that one everyone knew where this ball was going took it outside out of system set CC Crawford explodes up to [Music] it and held the pose [Music] [Applause] [Music] Franklin sharp oy was right there in that area block sticky right now for Wisconsin same spotting over the top Reuben using her mind to score there yeah and just working hard to go all the way off it becomes so difficult as an outside hitter during long rallies because you're constantly transitioning you're also getting a majority of the sets CU you're usually at a system or on the move you have to work so hard to get all the way back is having a laugh about that ATA OG's Top Spin serves actually new this season they started working on it during the Spring but saw it during warm-up and she can really rip it back there clearly a point of emphasis for Sanford to pick up the service pressure in this match that one not quite as good she's going for it you appreciate that she took it well though was smiling about it backto back service [Music] airs recycled back to Franklin out of system back set back court out for [Applause] Harvey all of a sudden Wisconsin coming back in this one we've seen such a tight match so far just hanging in there serving pass picking up on both sides Kevin Hamley said boring answer it always comes down to that for both sides Serv and pass got to serve tough and you got to pass well [Music] [Applause] Reuben that's a perfect example of why sering pass is so important too easy of a serve Stanford can nail that pass and it's so difficult as a blocker to know where that Ball's going so Ruben's left oneon-one that's a really easy kill on the outside up high and down quick before the block of Booth could get over there and a service Ace has Stanford into the timeout ahead by three ellia Ruben several good moments this weekend as the number one option for Stanford we having any fun this weekend or what the showman that is Kelly Sheffield the answer is yes we are having fun this opening two sets have been split it's Stanford by three and set three and that lead grows to four book ending the timeout with service a is ellot Rubin yeah picking up right where she left off from the end line putting in bullets right there Wisconsin's Trinity Shad series having difficulty picking him up we'll see Julia Orel now in who will have to play front Ro front row Wisconsin doesn't want to do that she's battling an ankle injury not full strength yet pass to kill Sarah Franklin out of the back hi Michelle hey Connor we are in Yannis territory here in Milwaukee and there is no shortage of NBA ties here at the college volleyball level uh most notably Carter Booth her dad Kelvin Booth is in the house played 10 seasons is also the GM of the Nuggets got a ring last season Mike smre the father of Anna smre also played Seven Seasons in the NBA and on Stanford side Sydney Duncan is the daughter of NBA Hall of Famer it's him Duncan how about that how about that [Applause] definitely helps me come from a pretty athletic family huh yeah three times over for Wisconsin so this is the scenario you're talking about for the Badgers Orel up front now cin serve Sals yeah not necessarily what they want to do right now Orel is battling an ankle injury they don't want to have her use those jumps and have a recover early on for the rest of the season but even watching her in war warm ups and the times that she's had to hit either out of the back row in the front Court looks pretty [Music] good just saw a Carter boo stat on that graphic kin Robinson waves goodbye to that ball it's a great push Charlie furer about 10 11 feet off the net forcing that quick tempo right side attack to Robinson and she goes up to chase it down and put it down Reuben was back there directing the passers for Stanford and made a good read herself yeah just kind of dodging balls out there that's when it becomes so important as a service St unit to really communicate on every ball in or out and making sure you're confident with those calls [Music] [Applause] [Music] here's Cammy [Music] Miner bringer to the back R Miner off the net for Reuben coming right downhill at you Cammy mind are really using Ruben and Kurt about 55% of the taxs have gone to them whether it's in the front or back court and Ruben doing a phenomenal job of making herself available even in the back court on that big attack quick attack through the middle back of the Court finding ways to continue to keep calling for the ball and spread this attack out and even against three blockers put it right through that small [Music] scene so timeout for the Badgers Stanford has played from behind in both sets remember they waited until 2524 to lead for the first time winning set one fell behind and stayed behind in set two and now their biggest lead of this match has come in set three behind Ruben and [Music] KK well second week of college volleyball which means a new poll every Monday this was released this afternoon some movement up top Pitt and Louisville part of the ACC with Stanford new to that league so 3 four and five all out of the ACC that Stanford goes into I mean it is going to be an allout battle for who's going to win that ACC title this season we've seen pit gone to three straight final fours Louisville's been in contention been at some of those as well and Sanford of course we know has been to the most final fours of any program in history that is going to be a stacked conference and then you look for Big 10 wise Purdue Penn State Wisconsin in Nebraska all in the top 10 another conference that is just absolutely Elite no gaping holes in that conference and here's Michelle Conor thanks so much let's keep an eye on serve receive here and a much better pass there for or but that's been an area Wisconsin has been struggling and that's where Kelly Sheffield addressed in his huddle he said we're letting the ball attack us right now instead of getting our platforms out sooner and attacking the ball we need to flip that mentality and as defensive Specialists Emily and I can relate to such conversations well and it's not just that easy especially when you're going up to really tough serves like Stanford has and yesterday we saw against Texas this was not the passing night the Wisconsin Wanted only about 52% in system that number has to be higher oh how about that serve from Mor I mean she has been phenomenal on the back line what's made it really hard is she's mixing up where she's hitting this ball she's driving them back and then she'll drop one right in short in front of the passers right at the last second for is a Stanford timeout that's what Kelly Sheffield identified as the important piece to Wisconsin getting off to a good star and set two with the service pressure from orall yeah it's been really important and carry them through some of these even in free ball situations you see a lot of these balls go to the middle n they feel good about Franklin on the outside three nothing run ands on the air for Orel and that's one of the misses that you're okay with barely missing long really testing the end line right there especially with the serving run that she had that airor is okay and now Wisconsin will actually actually pass four people back with how hard this serve is a little less velocity the last couple of serves for Kurt got a body on it and Ruben runs it down Kurt went from service line to self-defense in a hurry when Franklin ends the point and again it is Frank the Tank all the time Wisconsin feeding her in every situation they know when they have to catch up in a match or need to close one off they can continue to just keep the ball on and even with two blockers up front she finds ways to get kills a star of stars in college volleyball Sarah Franklin up to 15 kills for Wisconsin hitting 438 that is a huge efficiency for an outside oh quick snap of the wrist for OT Ruben ellot ruin had had about enough of that insane swing from the outside this seem she just followed through so so well going right on the outside of Charlie furrer Beautiful Finish somebody that Kevin Hamley called an elite competitor hard to argue watching her for years [Music] now highe ball Franklin down to the floor we've got ourselves a one-point set three it's a slugfest right now just a back and forth battle big swing after big swing this is what you want to see with the top two teams in the country just massive time and time again just swinging and Swinging this is what you want in a 56 match [Applause] up we see if they keep on slugging into this red area pass 20 points over pass Franklin Goes the opposite way and down for Robinson to tie it up really smart time for Deon Robinson to throw on a tip there that set just a little bit too tight to the net but she knew that LE was probably a little bit too deep and it didn't go too high just right over the backs of the [Applause] [Music] block Kelly Sheffield with his freshman Setter Charlie ferer with Wisconsin erasing a four four point lead for Stanford it's been a great year really couple years several years the growth of volleyball this was about a year ago today 9203 at Nebraska Memorial Stadium their football stadium to see them play Omaha Wisconsin and Marquette indoor attendance record in the regular season match and then number one number two Wisconsin they went into that match undefeated over half a million people watched on Big 10 Network and then two matches on Fox for the first time ever last year Drew over a million eyeballs with Wisconsin a part of that weekend as well as Minnesota who you'll see next I mean the growth of the game has been exponential and we talked so much about how this sport is going to continue to grow we're seeing new Pro leagues coming up in the US so these players can stay home and continue to grow the game we see attendance record shattered it feels like every week now especially just at individual schools and viewership feels like we're constantly seeing that number shattered we saw 1.7 million in the regular season and then nearly 2 million in the postseason last year as well it is such a special time to be a part of the sport in a springboard that's happening over the last few years feels like the Sport's just getting started too oh [Applause] yeah fur Brer the serve [Applause] heavy back in this red zone of volleyball from 20 on it is so important to play as as clean as possible yes you want to be aggressive but you have to keep the ball in cuz Five Points goes really [Music] fast a race to 25 win by two what a serve for Harvey those are the kind of serves that we saw all night long against Minnesota last night Wisconsin now has to settle in potentially past a little bit more aggressive in those teams you really have to talk about who's taking those teams really early on so as a labero you have to say hey I'm taking your scam to the left you need to make sure that person is saying the exact same thing you Orel in this case saying hey Sarah Franklin I got your scene to the left as well you have to talk about it early on so you don't have to make the call when the sur's [Applause] happening it's origel taking the first ball when Franklin rips that thing in an open net overpass kill again started from the service line seems look like they were pretty taken care of on Wisconsin side but this is a bullet that's coming as a passer now you have to say all right let's get it 10 ft off it doesn't have to be perfect you don't need to nail it we tied at 21 that stops the run for Stanford Wisconsin survives the first set point now in this rotation with Sarah Franklin in the back court if they get that ball back expect Charlie ferer to get her that ball watch same for instance on the slide for Stanford on a good [Music] pass short for Franklin and Stanford takes set three to lead the match two to one been talking about fighting execute this whole match you guys really did a nice job of fighting we made some plays we dug a four to four shot right there so we're going to have to continue that obviously continue that right now em Le your thoughts I love what he's saying about competing and that's been the theme for Kevin Hamley through this entire weekend and really the entire trip here in Milwaukee as they have a four match stretch it's really important to learn a lot about your team with some young pieces over there he just wants to know how they're going to gel together and maybe if things aren't going well will they compete and he's found out they have some of this non-conference setup for Kevin hambley is with ACC in mind said he's not really worried about the travel element of playing in the ACC in his words it's not like we're walking to Duke in North Carol Ina but halfway across the country in this event as Julia Orel starts set for with an ace this is what happened during set two Orel on the back line she had a five-point run to start off that first third set rather really important to have her back there hitting bullets Reuben with 16 kills one of her few errors today hello again Michelle hey Conor Kelly Sheffield very positive with his team between sets he said Hey listen we hit 531 and 519 the last two sets no one should be feeling bad about themselves right now but talked a lot about earning their shots earn the pass earn your shot was the main message there also Britney dline uh contributing in the Huddle Britney dildine coaches the back throw players one of the top assisant coaches for Kelly Sheffield from for many [Music] years here's orgel out on the topic of back row players I mean this Wisconsin team has so many right now that they're rotating in one because they use that two laber system so you automatically see two back there but then with Julia origel who normally is an outside but more in a DS role now and then you see Lola Schumacher who's been a Difference Maker for this team here's the shoeer pass will led to a Crawford attempt reloaded run down in the back for Stanford gets Reuben a swing and off the hands started with beon with a chase down it's surprising to see for Wisconsin they're playing four across in service even where they've had issues is actually in the seams when you're passing four there's actually more seams to handle so it seems like this team May would want to do something different but that's their fix here allegedly Shumacher had it covered in that pass opens up the middle for Crawford yeah that's just about as good as it gets when you have four back there yes you have more seams to cover but it also makes those seams a lot smaller so you're kind of going within one step of each player great job for Wisconsin stepping into that scam beautifully nailing that pass right away almost like a prevent defense in football right yeah [Music] we called you the Tom Brady of our coverage yesterday I thought you'd like that one no I love it it's great talk more ex than know a football come on you want to break down quarters coverage for [Music] us Harvey the big serve yesterday not here hasn't been quite as effective today Emily we've seen a lot of these serves go just a little bit long than what we saw yesterday A lot of that could be depth perception too you know you get used to the gym right away sometimes that changes based on how many people are in the stands or what's going on around you the gym definitely a little bit more empty today Francis oh that is a sizzling ball off francis's hand for a kill Francis is a player the Camy Miner needs to get going just a little bit more we saw her get a little quiet over the last two sets she started off really strong during set one they have to find a way to get her going especially on this Slide Attack on the right side of the court granis with five kills P Wisconsin side screaming in unison that that ball was out even though Stanford has up their surface pressure a little bit we have seen those errors TR of keep going as well up to 13 on the match so [Music] far Kur blocked oy getting in there to keep the point alive remember that if Stanford wins the point Kurt block oy again with the hitter coverage two time labero of the year in the back 12 block free [Applause] ball and for gritty so far blocks covered again one of the best rallies of this match so far B bringer to Robinson hands up oh it goes down for K that is why you need coverage on these balls atena o be diving out for some of these it's so important as a back row Defender you can't score points for your team but you can allow them the opportunity to have time and time again and keep trying to score points and she has just been Elite on coverage all night long but especially during that [Music] play damro connects with herrer and there's Andrew waiting for Franklin big read from the Freshman middle blocker Lizzie Andrew knew her assignment perfectly in these situations with Franklin backp she knows that that's a very good option the Wisconsin likes to go to so she was just waiting for [Applause] it long way for Miner to run third to n booth and Robinson the right side block for Wisconsin just been absolutely stifling over the last few points it's been so difficult for Sanford's outsides to get past them and that's without the 69 presence of Anna SM today and Deon Robinson only 62 which is crazy saying only 62 but she provides such a big block out there too only 62 and the two players next to you are five and seven in taller who's out today 69 well the flag for both line judges went up that ball was out point for Stanford prob Sheffield looking for a little bit of clarification that call saying that it went off Sanford's outside into the hands of the block and then out of bounds Wisconsin thinking it might have just gone Straight Out of Bounds and not touch the block let's take another look at it that's what those antennas are for if it goes off of Robinson then outside yeah I mean that didn't touch Robinson's hand it might have touched her arm though usually those are really tough balls a challenge too because you can't see whether it grazes the [Applause] arm Robinson Cross Court Miner with good effort free ball Crawford splies through the block good adjustment midair by by CC Crawford that set way too low for her but she sped up the speed of that arm to put it over I think the ref's actually calling CC Crawford in the net didn't look like it so Wisconsin will challenge [Music] the yeah definitely looked like the ball hit the tape tough to tell from this angle whether the hand followed through but seeing it live it absolutely didn't look like it followed through and hit it definitely ball on tape in that [Music] look CC Crawford adamant she didn't touch it if that hand touches any part of the net and usually the Quee for both the Upp ref and the line touches is the net moving but it was the ball in this case that made the net move and that's legal by these looks that we have it's tough to tell whether the hand did touch it again you have to have conclusive evidence to show that it didn't by the looks that we have it's you can't tell whether it is the ball and the hand or just the ball but again seeing it live it definitely didn't look like the hand touch it this is probably the best look we have oh yeah nothing there yeah clearly on the follow through down on that last look that we had you could see that no hand no finger touch the net hey Michelle I know you're over there can you uh can you put a bug in there say look at our net cam we've got a good look at it that's the one [Music] again this is the best look that we've got you can tell based on that follow through there's a lot of space from her fingertips in that [Music] net well Connor ask and you shall receive that is indeed the angle that they were just reviewing on that and I believe we're going to hear that the original call stands I don't think there was any error in judgment there but we shall see thanks for making the ason show we appreciate [Music] you well one of the things that I think all four coaches talk to us be sconsin Point Kevin Gamble's asking for the point to be replayed it looks like he gave the replay the point signal yeah I think he was saying that that whistle was blown before the ball was down which would mean that would be a replay it seemed like the whistle though is blown after the point and he can't challenge for that I was going to say Emily uh common theme on our calls this week with these coaches was pace of they'd like to see pick up 100% I think we all would say no more let's play [Applause] ball umpire [Applause] Emily serve out from Robinson well the ABCA had the the first serve event that had Wisconsin Louisville Nebraska Kentucky in it before everybody else in the country played but there were some experimental rules in that event a surf clock was present new replay system was present we could see some rule changes coming yeah I think also some that have been needed I I love the surf clock I think it speeds up the game Mak makes it fit in a better window and the technology of course is great A little bit expensive but it's nice to have banford scrambling to get their defense set they surviv the point for now the B's running up the net to get settled after the free ball and the dump ends the point furrer with a smart shot really smart decision from Charlie furrer we saw great efforts on both sides Stanford scrambling after a play like this multiple players laying out at multiple times during that rally Charlie ferer took advantage of it though catching him off guard with the [Music] dump herrer with the smooth five kills a Setter spot in this match oh fast tempo set to the middle it's Andrew Andrew's really come alive Kevin Hamley said he was so impressive and she was everything they thought she would be in terms of offense in their last two games against Milwaukee and then against Minnesota just being always available up front and also using that 65 Frame to her [Music] [Music] Advantage Franklin out just missing that a little bit to the side Sarah Franklin trying to attack that line the beautiful set allowed that to happen just that over rotation of the shoulder causing that to go [Applause] [Music] out Franklin that same reaction on the tool screaming at the ball as it goes off the block yeah I think you can tell especially for her when she makes an error a play doesn't go how she wants that next play she's putting a little bit extra juice [Music] on Reuben got underneath that serve and Francis down to the floor with the kill great set from Cammy Miner to really push that Tempo on that Gap set with Samy Francis allowing her the space to attack that ball [Music] pbrer for Franklin dabbed Away by Harvey and big ripped into the lap of ogy Franklin again block there Miner Francis same match up a third time and Miner with the dump the let olvy just sitting on some of these digs she has been so impressive in the back court just picking up stuff that you would never think a player can pick up but she's in the right spot at the right time and Miner use that to her advantage of the speed of play she kind of made it look casual [Music] too Miner and Francis doing work up at the net again here Michelle yeah Conor speaking of casual how about this for driven and determined Cammy Miner she took eight AP classes in high school when she was a sophomore to make room in her schedule the next two years to meet and sweep the weekend in milwauke after a five set win and a step closer on the ace for Harvey there's Jordan Harvey's serve again again just taking out passer she's done a great job of just going for those shoulders going for their faces making sure that they're in away before this ball goes [Applause] out another one there she goes varing up that depth just a little bit dropping this one right in front of the passer making her take that one step up just the movement on some of these serves is absolutely insane the float on it you never know where it's [Music] going oh three in a row and this is where you just got to give her a new look as especially if you have four back there switch something up pull it past their back just to take up that Tempo a little bit so from what felt like a quieter day at the service line for Harvey just turned into a 4 a day in a hurry we're talking about how her serve hadn't necessarily gone off the way it did in day one of this showcase but man here in day two she's absolutely making up for it well it was 98 Wisconsin since then Stanford's gone an 8-1 run I mean the movement on these serves you see there is no spin on that ball that means it's catching all the air pockets and with the pace that she's hitting it as a passer it's so difficult to track and get your arms out in time because it's moving I mean no spin on that at all Kelly Sheffield is telling his passers what right now he's going to say pick aide really early on even if you don't exactly know where it's going just take one step in the direction of the opposite way that you're taking that and get that platform out early enough so you can bring it back into the court it's not going behind you all right we'll see how that plays out with Harvey standing back there the play of the match is sponsored by State Farm like a good neighbor State Farm is there and just another impressive rally the one of many that we've seen so far throughout this and it was really the first of the match and it set the tone for this entire game we've seen a back and forth battle throughout this match in just the defensive effort on both sides hustling time and time again CC Crawford I mean she has been outstanding for Wisconsin 8 for 18 hitting 444 so far but man it has been such a fun defensive battle in the back court I know that gets your eyes wide good defensive battle in the back always fighting for your Littles and service run ends a timeout for Kelly Sheffield on the Wisconsin side gets Harvey off the line and some sometimes that's all it takes just a little break in the [Music] action push for Reuben block gets out there that was out Ruben does such a great job using the Block in front of her if it's not perfectly formed she swipes it right off especially with the tempo that Sanford runs with it's a really fast set outside so you can swipe it pretty easily when the Block's not there Reuben [Applause] out and this is where Wisconsin has to make a push if they're going to come back in this match it has to start now down 2-1 backs against the wall this is where Kelly Sheffield is going to learn a lot about his team team and how much they can fight back set for Francis no time to react for Ferrer really smart decision for Cammy Miner to continue to push that right side of the Court this time with the middle for Stanford against a player J Julia Orel for Wisconsin who hasn't played much front row at all this season and sporadically throughout the first three set or first three matches for Wisconsin orel's found her way to the [Applause] front it's out Wisconsin hopes with a fully healthy Sarah Franklin who they gave the week off of practice to with a fully healthy Julia orchel a fully healthy healthy Anna smre this will Peak when it matters most in December and that's what's really important yes of course these games against top five teams are really important that they've played this week but as as long as they can learn from it and peak in December that's what Kelly Sheffield wants minor retreating finds [Music] Kurt minor ones Kurt again sharpen out sometimes it doesn't really matter what happens in the beginning of the Season yes these matthes are probably going to be important for seaing later on but it's so important to just get to the end of the season when you're playing your best volleyball Forex last season we saw them lose to Long Beach State in match one of the year they were kind of underrated headed into the NCA tournament as a seven seed they snuck up on people took down three top one seats to get that National Championship back to back so it doesn't matter how you start matters how you finish I wanted to argue with you a little bit but I guess we'll let Michelle in again I won't contribute to the arguments uh but Conor earlier you asked Emily what Kelly Sheffield was saying in his huddle to the passers with a really tough serving team in Stanford and I can confirm exactly what Emily said he said which was to get the platforms out sooner but also that the platforms were moving too much in serve receive so that was an issue and then also communication they have to communicate sooner to tell their teammates when balls are going out if you know the ball's going out call it as soon as you can and Britney add to that point she said higher passers will be more friendly in these situations don't try to make it perfect just give give her some time to get there for Charlie guys that's been a really big Focus for the littles under Britney dildine who leads that group of getting higher passes and that normally doesn't show up on a stat sheet but how you're contributing to the game and allowing for a bringer to run that offense yeah you can pass a ball you know one foot two feet over the top of the tape and it's in the right spot but if it's not high enough this team isn't able to run the offense that they want to run that was a really big Focus over the last 24 hours to get those passes higher and to give furrer more time coach Ean by the way you nailed it heuck yeah if I know one thing it's little come on I know and back flips and back flips celebrating on the sideline two things I contribute all the others [Applause] played I haven't seen anyone do a back flip on the sidelines all right true Andrew is blocked Crawford and orzo were up at the net Crawford with a chest dump that's what you love to see from your middle getting a little bit Juiced up in they must win set for Wisconsin so they don't start off this season 0 and three they need more of that he was going to say yes important to peek at the end but you also find out a lot about what type of Team you've got early in the season by playing this type of schedule that Stanford and Wisconsin are little hint at what we might get in December Orel up in the front and out on that swing Kelly sheffeld really hit that point home with us too he said yeah we're of course worried about win and losses but really this whole week and the past week playing such a tough opponent first in Louisville and then seeing Texas it really is about what they can learn from this and how they can Implement that moving forward Franklin arrives from the back Miner lays [Music] [Applause] forward both teams trading errors back and forth through see them get a little bit sloppy over the last few points if you want to close up a set you have to play clean and execute Sage damro is over there practicing her passing platform getting that platform out earlyy Robinson hung in there on that somehow just at the net one by Kurt oh no out Point Wisconsin how about that reaction time Devin Robinson in the back court barely enough time at all to get her hands up but she managed to do it check out how fast that is even in slowmo she's putting her hands up just hoping she doesn't get clocked in the [Music] face she was in a full Squat and then some I mean the reaction time it takes to get your hands up in time is insane service up high and down low Deon Robinson's pretty good and a lot of times you'll see her Flex after a kill that's when I want to see her flexing after you that strength to drive it right into Stanford look out now we've got a onepoint set [Applause] for just an incredible serve dropping it right in front of the passers and in the seam the last one she drove back incredible and you love the reaction from her teammates up front and of course the bench getting in on the action just pumped up counting down the push-ups which they do after every [Music] Ace was the seventh Ace of the match for Wisconsin Emily this is a a quick Flash run here for Wisconsin it looked like this match was headed four set Stanford and out 6-1 run has Wisconsin back to one point right back in touch with the Cardinal the number 13's on either side both left side hitters efficient just that one kill separating him yeah and look defensively too both really contributing to their team in the back line it's so important as a six rotation outside you have to be able to play defense back there and ellot ruin especially has just been flying in the back court it's almost like having another laer with her back there more than just luck is that a is that a slot machine triple sevs both double digit kills same hitting number both double doubles the dicks I think it's got to be right and that's why we get in five six match up our Graphics team winning big this [Applause] weekend will the Gophers take the floor in a few moments or will they have to wait for a fifth set lurching in the background watching their big 10 rival over pass hin recovers it's her pass than her recovery hurt denied and outs oh Crawford's face knew she got it clean but too heavy Crawford knew she was in the right spot at the right time to make that block her hands just weren't pressed over far enough and Par used that to her [Applause] [Music] Advantage Stanford in the Red Zone needing to get to 25 to win the match Wisconsin wins we go to Five sets inside the block for Orel really Orel not pay playing too much front line so far to start off this season but she's come up clutch when this Wisconsin team has needed at most and she's just a gamer they know in situations like this doesn't matter what percentage of Health that she's at she'll take the big swings in the big moments seven of the last nine points for the Badgers Reuben doing what she's done all afternoon 19 kills Ruben trying to lead her team to a three-oh start she has put the team on her back time and time again closing in on that 20 Mark but also doing it efficiently hitting 350 now watch this ball to go outside to Sarah Franklin in this four hitter [Applause] rotation it's craw in the middle it's Oaky on the Dig re ball o off [Music] Target that's a connection that we've seen be so good between Ferrier and Sarah Franklin on the outside again two hitters up front W Crawford in front and Franklin on that outside oine Stanford trying to close [Music] Franklin shorts a rare Miss in the big moments for sah Franklin normally a player that's going to continue to swing hard and hard again watch for her to unload on this one if she gets a set stoic Wisconsin head coach Kelly Sheffield watching his team two points away from elimination in this match back to three points now to send Caroline Crawford to the backline a player that doesn't normally see serving [Applause] time a tape buzzing serve and Wisconsin will have a shot to get it back to two and Franklin doesn't get a Redemption here Reuben off spe speed Franklin coverage good tip Orel lays out Franklin two hands that's what makes Sarah Franklin Elite in these big moments she knows what's going to score it doesn't always have to be that hard attack she sees the hole on the court and she's not afraid to go up and put it right where that is the hustle plays on Wisconsin side to keep it alive the All-American set Miner to Harvey to the left it's Reuben bringing up match point for Stanford time and time again Ruben has found that in these big situations she's the one getting the ball and she has the confidence Tammy Minard loves that aboutou her to keep getting her that ball Stanford already has a top 20 win this weekend looking for a top 10 win that'll have to wait at least one more point [Applause] I'd expect really late in a set like this a lot of sets on Wisconsin side are going to go to Sarah Franklin and on Sanford side Ellie rubin's going to be that Target another got to have it point for the Badgers B [Music] Brer Reuben for the win Reuben oh almost clinched it origel said not so fast Francis puts it away for Stanford a top 10 win in Milwaukee for the [Applause] Cardinal but that's so cool that he took the tour ah huh foreign speee grandma no I don't know for [Music] [Music] and see huh [Music] huh e e
