A law banning most abortions as soon as a fetal heartbeat can be detected is in effect across Iowa. There are a few exceptions for medical emergencies. Minnesota has no restrictions on abortion. Meaning women in states where they are banned could come here for the procedure. John Croman looks at the impact Iowa's new law could have on Minnesota. And so we're going to keep fighting until all babies and all women are protected here in Iowa. A victory by abortion foes in the Iowa legislature will reverberate into Minnesota. According to Planned Parenthood, Central State's Chief Medical Officer, Sarah Traxler, our patient Navigators will connect with patients who don't meet the law's requirements to set them up with appointments in other states and get them the resources to access care. The new Iowa law bans abortions in most cases where a fetal heartbeat is detected by ultrasound. Typically around six weeks of gestational age planned Parenthood has been gearing up for the Iowa ban, both here in Minnesota and in Nebraska where abortions are banned. After 12 weeks, we invested in our border communities where abortion remains legal. We expanded our capacity at health centers in Mankato and Minneapolis, as well as in Omaha where we are tripling our patient capacity by increasing our exam rooms from 4 to 16. The new Iowa law is also playing into presidential politics and this ban is gonna take effect before many women even know they're pregnant. And what this means is that one in three women of reproductive age in America lives in a state with a Trump abortion ban. Our position is that abortion is now back to the states. They've wanted to have. This Planned Parenthood is also expecting an influx of patients from Missouri because until now women from that state could go to Iowa to get an abortion.
