[Music] sh for e today from Soldier Field in Chicago it's week 16 of the NFL on EA Sports [Applause] we'll see Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears taking on Jared gof and the Detroit Lions now the good news is that the winds aren't as violent as they were yesterday in Chicago but it's still pretty darn cold to be expected I guess for December football at Soldier Field with Charles Davis I'm Brandon gard and Charles you look at this Bears team entering play they comeing off a loss last time out but they've been playing better than 500 ball the last couple months five wins in their last eight [Applause] games and we will not see a run back on the opening kickoff this will be a Touchback now come the Lions for their first drive behind their ninth year quarterback in year number four with Detroit it's Jared G and I thought it was a really nice performance last week by him three touchdown passes I think that signifies exactly what he was getting done he did have the one interception that's the ratio you say you're okay with right if you go three to one you're going to be pretty happy over the course of a season and let's face it he'll never blame the receiver publicly but behind closed doors he probably told his agent hey what's the deal I should have had a perfect game right to the air here is go that's caught it's Sam leapa he'll be dropped after a gain of about six across the 30 to the 31 they'll come up now second and four from the [Music] 31 back to throw G oh short pass here taken in by lorta and he takes this up to the the 40 yd line before being [Applause] coralled now G on first down that's to alra St Brown and he'll be taken down but not before he gets into enemy territory 12 more yards there and another first down [Applause] out of the gun they'll give to Gibbs and he can only manage to get a couple second and eight coming up this is second and eight [Applause] they'll go again with Gibbs it'll be a gain of five but still about three yd shy of the first down marker and now it's third down a quick burst there and he nicely bit off a pretty decent gain a good chance this is four down territory if they're unable to convert but right now looking at a third and three a give right side for Gibbs and he'll be tackled about two y shy of the line to gain a one yd pickup leads to fourth down that a big time played by the defense they as well knew where the first down line was and they didn't let him get anywhere near [Applause] it and on their first drive the offense staying out there they're going to go for it on Fourth they'll try and run for it and boy this is going to be close that Mark looks a little short and he didn't get there so the Bears ready to go on offense and it's the number one overall pick leading him out the Heisman Trophy winner from USC Caleb Williams and last week's loss came despite a clean game on his end throwing the ball with two touchdowns and zero interceptions his job this week is simple do it again continue to avoid turnovers and hope that what sunk them last week resolves itself this time around here's Williams on First and 10 and that's out to the flat for Swift they'll wind up getting just a yard and it'll be second down you talk about this Lions defense they were terrific last week against Buffalo in their victory yeah they pitched a shut out in that game didn't they and those don't come around all that often in the NFL the ability to keep someone out of the endzone and also from kicking one through the post well done throwing is [Applause] Williams try to force it to Allen and it's intercepted off by Kirby Joseph and he's able to take this one back to the 36 yd line well it's not the first time we've seen him give one up here during his rookie season and in this case Zone coverage forced the mistake he's made some strides week to week and how he's handling the different type of coverages that he's seeing but clearly there's some growing still to do so from the 36 now first and 10 [Applause] after the interception here's G and he's going to go down they get to it back at the 40 Travis Jones able to drop him for a loss of four from his defensive tackle spot we're scoreless after one the lions with the football here to begin the second quarter as they've got it with a second and 14 [Applause] upcoming G setting up the screen this is Gibbs oh good move and give him six yards here as he's stopped near the 35 at the 34 well good field position to start the drive but under the gun now here on Third and eight G work in the middle of the field and he's got a man complete and he is going to have all Lions first down as they're able to get the third down conversion and that's well executed there on third down and I love the confidence that they had to let their tight end try and find some space in the middle of the field right in their quarterback's line of vision and QBs love to make that easy throw and they hooked up there for a first down line of scrimmage the 15 it's first and [Music] 10 here's G finds Gibbs on the check down and the Nimble footwork gets him just inside the 10 to the nine but no further call it a gain of six on the play and it'll be second down and they'll use him out of the back field and sometimes quite a bit they're just trying to get him tou any way they can four catches a week ago there's another one right there this is a second and four ball at the [Applause] nine throwing again is G this is caught and in for the Lions touchdown jir Gibbs his 11th touchdown on the year and the Lions post the first points of the ball game as they take the lead here in this second quarter well forget about the weapons out wide he knows he's got another weapon in the back field in the passing game Charles and he utilized him perfectly on that play and the offensive coordinator showed me something on that play Brandon because so often during a game our cameras find them looking down of their play sheets and you wonder if they're absorbing anything he had something specific in mind and he went to it and it worked well after the touchdown here's mcmanis now to kick it away and no thought of bringing this one out will go down to a knee and they'll begin the drive at the 30 Chicago Works their way back onto the field here for their second Drive of the game they threw an interception the first time they had the football wound up leading to a touchdown the other way how do you approach Drive number two going back to your game plan coming in everyone has matchups that they like better than others where they think they have an advantage dial up some of those plays try and go to those spots and get your offense moving and nothing much materializing there on the first down run he'll get a couple and that's it and the big fell stuffed that one up in a big way I think doubling him has to be a priority because you can't move up to the next level if you don't take care of him first two minutes on the clock second quarter 7even nothing ball game reminder that coming up in two minutes time we'll check in with Jonathan Coachman from Orlando he'll have highlights and Analysis of this first half of play they'll break the come up on second and eight at the 27 yd line on second down here's Williams and he will find the open man it's DJ Moore they'll get to the line here but remember it's also third down they'll try and throw with Williams pass taken in by his big tight end and he gets this up across the 35 before he's out of bounds he's got his first catch here before halim and it goes for a first down that's a big conversion there on third down because they did not want to give the ball up here late in the half they'd love to take the clock all the way down and score this will definitely help the cause Allen Nifty footwork and they'll get him down after a pick up of Eight Second and two the Bears Moving hastily in the hurry up offense and he can't find anywhere to go with it and he goes down now the Bears going to call the first of their timeouts as the stoppage will come with a little under a minute to go in this first half and they're picking up right where they left off with the shut out that they pitched last week a huge part of that this pass rush they know how to get after people offensively good luck finding some answers right now able to find the open man that's complete now the Bears going to use the second of their timeouts as they get the stoppage with a little over 50 seconds to go in the first half [Applause] from the Midfield strike they'll look to throw flushed out right and he'll go down inside the 45 before going out of bounds nice work to get seven out of that and it's second down you know what I like about that play he didn't try to do too much on first down he took what the defense gave him put together a solid gain to bring up second and manageable now they have a couple of plays to pick up just a few yards and a new set of downs to throw [Applause] Williams this one complete to his fullback out of the back Field Four yds the pickup first down from the gun here's Williams escaping the pressure right and he'll protect himself at the end here as he winds up getting pretty decent yardage the Lions will use the first of their timeouts as they'll stop it with a little over 30 seconds to go in the first half of play certainly not the way they drew it up in the Playbook but that's why they love this guy back there he sees things breaking down and he's more than capable of finding an Escape Route and still getting a decent gain working out of the gun Williams he'll get this into the hands of the dun and it's going to be another first down as they'll get him to the ground at the Lions 13 yd line now the Bears will use their third and final timeout as it'll come with 15 seconds to play in the first half from the 13 now they work on First and 10 from the shotgun a throw for Williams a throw left taken in by K oh he's going to be brought down a few yard short of the goal line and they're going to be unable to stop the clock from here so close yet so far and that's going to be how this first half will come to an end okay Brandon thanks very much the weather might be cold but the playoff races are heating up here on this final Sunday before Christmas so let's get to it all right we'll bypass the halftime show in favor of returning to this late season game with the teams coming back from the locker rooms here a bit early just the one touchdown in that first half seven nothing our score as we get going in quarter number three and no fireworks to start the half this will be a Touchback so here's the Bears offense now as they get set to start this third quarter well out of the locker rooms here they come their first drive of the third quarter and Charles they're trailing in this ball game but we got a tight one set up to be a very entertaining second half and as we know partner in the NFL there's trailing and there's trailing right sometimes you're discouraged by how much you're down but in this case this is a tight ball game so there's a sense of optimism here I think they went in the half and looked at their play sheet and said these are the plays we really like what do you say we use them to start the second half and get us going just a yard on the first down carry so it's second and nine man I just love being in this stadium so much history tradition so many great teams and games and and we're seeing a pretty good one right now hotly contested in the third quarter and that's incomplete not only did he have a chance to scan the field there it felt like he had a chance to scan it twice the protection was that good unfortunately for him the coverage downfield equally good to the air on third down is Williams a pass complete to ad dunay and he's brought down getting this one up to about the 35 just his second catch of the game so far this one moves the chains and that's the kind of play this offense needs to maybe kick them in gear a little bit they've been stuck in neutral much of the game perhaps that can give a little bit of confidence the big plays are out there [Music] ball up to the 35 now as they come up on First and 10 Williams with a little touch pass forward and that is not fooling anyone he never had a chance to turn the corner there and they'll go backwards right away well I think the hope is you know with a touch pass like that maybe you catch the defense off guard but they were all over that one and it is the kind of play that works better against certain defenses and this clearly was the wrong one to run into really nice job getting him down behind the line of scrimmage and he slips up past the 45 before being tackled a Chicago first down there on a gain of 11 those are the type of runs that we did not see from him in the first half but a good start to the third quarter and I know what everyone's thinking that's watching this they did a great job adjusting it the half often times you don't make adjustments you just dialed into your game plan a little bit better and maybe they starting to make some Headway good work after the catch going to net him 23 and a first I don't know what they talked about at halftime whatever it was it worked they looked like a different team here in the third quarter yeah I doubt that there very many trash cans that got kicked over that type of a speech I think what they did was they analyzed what worked in the first half what didn't and figured out a better game plan still in search of their first touchdown of the game but they're on the Move first and 10 on the option to give to Swift here and he works his way free all the way down to the outskirts of the Red Zone another good gain that's now 35 yds combined on those last two plays that one definitely helps as they try to push the ball down the field here trailing early in the third quarter and even though they're trailing not abandoning the running game people may call it an adjustment I think it's just much more more sticking to what works for you and continuing to have faith in it and the running game is starting to pay off another nice gain that's now 30 y between those last two plays I'll tell you there is no antidote for Speed even at the quarterback position as he keeps it himself and turns it into good yardage and it still takes time for a Defender to react even as quarterbacks carry the ball more and more in today's n got his man and it's caught for a Chicago touchdown romad dun a one yd touchdown reception and the Bears are an extra point away from tying this ball game here the final moments of the third quarter well with this rookie QB we talk a lot about his ball placement and how good he can be at laying it right in there I think we just saw Charles though the strength of that arm that was an absolute rifle for the completed touchdown it absolutely was and let's face it you think he was really ready to get that first touchdown absolutely he threw that pass with authority just as you described Big Time arm right there and let's face it a lot of quarterbacks used to be pitchers in baseball the fast was usually their best pitch and we saw it there Santos able to tack on the extra point and we are tied at [Applause] seven so we're right back where we started all even as the kicks away Williams now on the return and he takes this near the 25 just a little pass there call it the 26 the Lions offense ready to kick off their next Drive their halime lead now evaporated we're back to level following that touchdown a moment ago and that shouldn't change the mindset a whole lot from an offensive perspective because they already knew this going to be a hard fought game now they just need to go out ex their game plan and keep moving one corner remains here in week 16 you are watching the NFL on EA Sports back now at Soldier Field all even as we get ready to start the fourth second and [Applause] 10 out of the gun G and this is going to be inter accepted inside the 20 and they will score a pick six for a bears touchdown well I mean both offenses have clearly struggled throughout so kind of fitting that it's another big defensive play that yields points here in the late going yeah really both of these defenses have been up to the task throughout this game and we haven't seen much in terms of offensive creativity or results and there not only does the defense forced to turnover but they have the presence of mind to take it back for six points now the point after try for Santos and he's got it it's now a 147 ball game a heck of a play there defensively getting the interception navigating his way into the end zone for the touchdown so they'll get another shot on offense following that pick six and now the kick is [Applause] away and a decent return out to the 27 yd line Detroit's offense ready to take over and can they regroup that's the question the pick six Hurt No Doubt but this is still a onore game here in the fourth GF in this Lions offense set for a first and 10 at their own 27 after the pick six they go right back to the air throw left side caught by lorta and he slips up past the 45 before being tackled first play of the drive a success 19 yards this defense has certainly had an outstanding second half haven't they I know they just gave up a first down there and for the offense they're hoping that that's something that they can jump start with and maybe start to move the ball a little bit better but it's been tough sleding for him here the entire second half a big hitter to start the drive has him up near Midfield here for first and 10 to throw is gone and that'll be caught by S brown and they'll get him down as he's inside the 40 14 yds that time for number number 14 I like the design that we're seeing right there this is what they need down by touchdown here in the fourth they just need to keep working their way down field and when they see openings take their shots the drive continues as they search for a tying touchdown here's first and 10 [Applause] now it's G he gets this out wide to Gibbs and he is out of bounds inside the 30 10 more there and another first down my goodness they've come out locked in on this drive play calling execution they are fully in sync three straight passes three first downs they're moving the ball down field almost at will this defense really struggling to find answers to about 26 [Applause] here here's a second and seven another run for Gibbs here and he will get enough for a first down and that will lead us to the two-minute warning fourth quarter down to the final two minutes and we've got a score game so the lions in possession of the football as we welcome you back they come up on a first and 10 desperately needing a score here on what could be their final drive plenty of time all three timeouts still remained here's first and 10 now from the red zone now G he's got it complete to Gibbs and he will lose yardage and be backed up to the 24 oh I know it goes against the grain here totally goes against it but you've got to drop the ball in that situation he makes a catch but he loses yards and doesn't get out of bounds [Applause] [Applause] they'll come up now this is second and long now G and oh my goodness what a catch at the six in a two-minute drill we often talk about taking care of the football but sometimes it's just a matter of who wants it more how about him going up top on a 50/50 ball oh and that's going to sabotage their comeback plans it is intercepted picked off by Steven Nelson and the Bears have just about sewn up this football game so a good drive with a bad ending Charles they move it down the field well cannot finish it off though as it's intercepted In The End Zone deflating that has got to be the word here because they were sharp and moving it down the field but sometimes you start thinking like a touchdown is a given and it doesn't always work out that way as we saw there [Applause] we got to have two hands on the football here as they run on first down and he'll be tackled at the 23 after a gain of three the Lions will use the first of their timeouts as they get it with under a minute to go now in the football game have to imagine this will be on the ground as well as they come up second and seven they'll fake it there on the Jet Sweep and instead here's Swift the Lions now going to use the second of their timeouts as they get the stoppage with a little over 50 seconds left to go in the game here's third and [Music] 10 to the air Williams and he's got his man in stride complete the Lions quickly now going to use the last of their timeouts as they get the stoppage with just under 50 seconds remaining in the fourth here comes the Bears punter now and surprisingly this is the first punt of the game for either team only two punts for him last week in the loss as he gets this one away call that a 41 yd punt six yds on the return and the lions will take over so here's G and the Lions down 14 to S A little over 40 seconds to go their four game winning streak in great danger gof now to throw St Brown on the catch and he'll be taken down right away up near Midfield at the 47 now it's G he'll go right back to St Brown and he goes down but not before getting this inside the 25 one last throw here for G this ball intercepted Kyler Gordon picks it off and the Bears are going to hang on on the final play they get the turnover to seal this football game well that second half Charles a little bit different from the first not only did we have the lead change after intermission but they were able to pitch the shut out in the second half and get an impressive Victory and what's the old expression that's not quite how I saw it playing out in my head you know they didn't expect this at all as you mentioned went into the half of the lead losing the game is one thing getting shut out in the second half that's a surprise so for the Bears it's an important win for their playoff hopes as they hit the 10- win mark now at 10 and five and they'll get to stay home again next week meanwhile for the Lions this was basically just an submition game for them as they'd already clenched home field advantage and they'll try to get back to their winning ways next week as they head to Santa Clara
