NLRB asks judge for back-pay for locked out ExxonMobil Beaumont Refinery workers

Developing tonight in Power City. New info on the ExxonMobil lockout. Remember this started back in May of 2021. More than 600 USW workers kicked out of the refinery. That lockout resulted in 10 months without pay. But thanks to complaints filed by the National Labor Relations Board, these United Steel workers could get back pay. Now the NRL B claims that the entire lockout was unlawful. Well, tonight 12 news reporter. Gloria Walker took a deep dive into that lawsuit. She joins us live now to explain what this all means for Exxon and the USW. Well, Jordan, Brenda, Union members say that this is a step in the right direction for them to get the compensation that they deserve. ExxonMobil workers may be back on the job after their ten month lockout that ended in March, but life is far from back to normal now. We're trying to get back to some normalcy, you know, and and it's been a few months now and and there's a lot of hiring going on out in the facility because a lot of people didn't come back. But back at work doesn't mean the fight is over for union members. Complaints were filed during the lockout asking for back pay for the 10 months workers spent off the job, I think on this complaint. There's eight charges. That's. That's quoted that they found married in or the general counsel found married in so. That's that's what they wrapped the the complaints around was those eight charges. If the more than 600 workers affected get this back pay ExxonMobil will dish out millions of dollars is an effort being pushed by the office of the NLRB and Steelworker Union. They broke the law, you know cordon and you know. Be upfront and pay the remedy and let's move forward. You know and and try to try to put. Put this last step behind us. We reached out to ExxonMobil for comment on these legal proceedings and they released this statement. And ExxonMobil, our wage employees, are highly valued and provide competitive compensation that supports employee performance and retention. This is while maintaining the company's ability to compete over a range of economic conditions. A federal judge out of Houston is set to look at the complaints January of 2023 and once this goes to court in January, it is just the first step of many before.
