e [Music] [Music] [Music] we expected a let down today at Notre Dame Stadium we did not expect n to be put down in game number two uh it's always a bad sign when someone comes up to you John Bryce and asks is this worse than Marshall when there's still time left in a football game that's what happened today Northern illo it is worse than Marshall nor Northern Illinois 16 nor name 14 welcome back to Irish Illustrated overtime I'm Tim Al joined by John Bryce of football scoop and uh I mentioned if they lost to Texas A&M that place would have been a morg it wasn't much better when Notre Dame scuffled to score for a solid two quarters and really for most of the game yeah Notre Dame again we touched on this instant analysis after the contest no offensive identity um nothing remotely resembling any consistency um and then for a a very strange change um Notre Dame defensively could not consistently get off the field and that's not what we've come to expect from Al golden units and um you know only giving up 16 points overall that that's playing good enough to win uh if you you only give up 16 points especially to nor Northern Illinois it's inexcusable to lose that contest yeah a crazy stat developed in the second half Northern Illinois had 43 snaps and not Dame had 21 Notre Dame held the ball for about seven minutes and 40 seconds Northern Illinois was in the 222 range that's on the defense as well it is of course the offense couldn't get out of its own way they had a couple three and outs they had a five playay Drive they did have the one touchdown with a beautiful highlight run by Jeremiah love that was going to go down in Notre Dame lore forever but they don't usually put those highlights for Notre Dame in 28 point upset losses but that was a beautiful run by Jeremiah love two scoring drives total for Notre Dame John it's uh you figured they'd struggle a little but they would find a way to get that you know push that score in that 27 28 even 34 range pregame is what we both figured I'm surprised that inefficient is not the word we're using for for's passing game it was Mor abund it was awful it was a poor passing attack from top to bottom Riley Leonard pass protection Jaden greous dropping a ball receivers open at times but not in a way that they're running free where you can easily uh beat a team Northern Illinois that you figure you're faster than as well yeah I mean the the best ball Riley Leonard threw all day happened to be a drop by Jaden great house you wonder how much that might have turned around the game or just changed the dynamic it might have given everyone involved more confidence in the throw game that that Notre Dame very clearly lacked today we saw Mitchell Evans a couple of times with some really nice catches but we didn't see enough Mitchell Evans we didn't see enough from the tight ends and it was just a lot of breakdowns a lot of failures and to lose the time of possession battle at home to that Northern Illinois team by a total of about 10 minutes overall particularly as you point out how dominant it was in the second half again just completely in excus in the first half Northern Illinois didn't have the ball for very long but controlled the game because of big chunk plays and um the way that they were just gashing Notre Dame's defense different moments and I know at one point in time it was like Notre Dame had a five or six minute Edge in time of possession in the first half but had been out gained by 80 yards by Northern Illinois so again a really disjointed effort you think that just as we said going into last week it was year three they needed to rise to the occasion and win that game at Texas A&M it's year three you can't sink to the occasion and lose this game again and now um again Notre Dame has squandered all Equity that it generated last weekend you mentioned chunk plays this happened in the first quarter an 83 yard touchdown pass a 43 yard wheel route a 28 yard gashing run off of right tackle and John it should have been a 25 yard halfback pass touchdown because that was wide open in a throw that just fell woefully short Notre name doesn't give that up in a game much less a quarter I think in my preu I wrote last year they gave up eight passing touchdowns for them were in when the game was completely in was no longer in doubt they gave up four real world passing touchdowns all of last season it was a mistake it was a slugo they got KVA just a little bit but honestly Benjamin Morrison either has to break down and make that tackle or not go for the ball there because he was the last person that could have stopped uh Brown from going 83 yards uh what a game by the way for uh Northern Illinois offense dictating to the Irish yeah I mean again as we alluded to could not get off the field uh anything remotely consistent as I also previously noted even when Notre Dame won won the battle on first down and and had Northern Illinois in second and 10 or second and Eight Second and nine second and 11 uh Northern Illinois got such effective plays on second down that it was then able to move the sticks time and time again on third down because second eight 10 11 turned into third and four third and two um Northern Illinois got great push on the the line uh we saw Notre Dame again rotating heavily up front but then um they still didn't look fresh at the end of the game Josh Burnham going out with an injury we're not allowed to ask about that now for Notre Dame policy so we won't have any sort of update um we don't expect until Monday on Josh Burnham or anyone else who was dinged up in today's game but uh again Notre Dame so controlled the tempo last week at Notre Dame at Texas A&M so dictated overall what Texas S&M could do offensively uh against an SEC line and then today really got pushed around a lot of ways on both sides both lines of scrimmage Ontario Brown 225 yards from scrimmage on 22 touches Howard cross mentioned postgame he will be playing in the NFL you have me convinced after watching this one game he will and I wanted to bring this up I think I mentioned at the top of instant analysis they lost in all four phases the Special Teams obviously got destroyed with two block field goals one ending the contest and one crucial uh coaching and preparation was an epic failure after week one we're going to talk about a little bit more about that later the offense was the worst unit the defense was nowhere near itself I I don't want I don't want to say the defense only gave up 16 points because they simply could not get off the field and get not Dame possession and get any kind of rhythm going whether they would have gotten that rhythm going or not on offense I don't know but that was a problem in fact Notre Dame excuse me Northern Illinois 19.8 yards per pass completion and 10.4 yards per pass attempt Notre Dame conversely eight 8.2 per completion 5.09 per attempt that's not quite as bad as Connor Wegman last week with 3.3 but 5.09 per attempt that's not complimentary offense either it's not remotely complimentary offense and here's maybe the most damning statistic of the day for Notre Dame and that is uh and it applies to both sides of the football Northern Illinois only had one three and out the entire day Notre Dame had three three and outs two other possessions that were only four play and Notre Dame's final four possessions went three plays five yards three plays five yards four yards and a pick five yards five plays 19 yards and a blocked field goal so just really uh absolutely atrocious abysmal execution from Notre Dame today I see some of the comments about how disgraceful this loss is how the uh come in I don't even know who we play next week will'll go down and infy and forgot about that one uh over the course of the week I should not have yeah and so um and and Notre Dame has to wear all of this right now and deservedly so you mentioned not be get off the the daming statistics and not being able to get off the field just note this there were 19 third and fourth down attempts for Northern Illinois they weren't great they were seven for 19 not only had 10 attempts and were three of 10 that's because they couldn't string anything together throughout it's I I think if you told me all the ways n a could lose this would not be part of it that Northern would control the line of scrimmage they were tougher Howard cross mentioned and this this happens with players postgame he mentioned that they were able to trick them with some stretch things and with some trick plays they also lined up and moved Notre Dame off the football and they moved Notre Dame's offensive line too you you you rarely thought all right just start getting this running game going other than the first drive where Riley Leonard was the runner six of his carries right there six carries for 31 yards and a touchdown he of course stats are tough to look at here because there's they're not sack adjusted and and he had a big 13y 13 yard loss on a on a throwback where he tried to that should have been grounding probably I guess I don't know the rule very well because that sure that sure looked like grounding or in the grasp to me John but no it couldn't be grounding too it was a fumble it was a backwards pass oh they call it a fumble okay yeah backwards pass you couldn't call it you couldn't call it grounding because it was a a backwards pass so technically a lateral and therefore not subject to grounding penalties instead just a a massive severe loss of real estate I asked Riley Leonard if he was limited because he they did not run him much after the first quarter he said he was not didn't expect him to say that he was because that's sounds like an excuse postgame he did own it uh of his interception the second intercept the first one I have watched a couple times that was that was kind of bad luck obviously he tried to force one in there it might have been defensive pass interference the ball's TI for a pick he said bad ball bad footwork bad Read Bad throw all my fault on the on the Deep ball and it wears off after a while when you're when you're a great teammate he's going to have to start hitting some throws I can't I'm really surprised that when we talked about what are some things we need to see pregame on Thursday in our Irish Illustrated podcast let's see Riley lard bit some balls in there they desperately needed him to fit some balls in there on those last few drives and he couldn't do it no and and again um I touched on this I think this very pertinent uh Notre Dame is absolutely putrid on on the money Downs offensively and I just double checked I thought it was six for 25 I was wrong it's six for 24 so exactly 25% on third and fourth Downs that Notre Dame has converted this year three of 10 today three of 14 combined last week including just two of 12 on third down so you're talking about um this being a program that's five for 22 on third down conversions through through eight quarters of football and we knew there would be growing pains we knew there would be a developmental progression with this offense with a brand new offensive coordinator with a new wide receivers coach uh and certainly with this uh completely overhauled almost entirely brand new offensive line but um today was a step backwards for for the team that owned absolutely Flatout owned the fourth quarter at Texas A&M last week to have performed the way it did over the course of 60 minutes today is um you know it's befuddling and for all the people calling it in inexcusable they're absolutely correct yeah what surprises me and it's this it's always second guessing at this time after losses is if Riley Leonard wasn't limited I I believe Riley Leonard was limited at some point because of the hits he took but if Riley Leonard wasn't limited it is on absolutely on Mike Dem Brock and Marcus Freeman to tell Mike demock run QB power like you did against Texas A&M we need to get six yards we need to get five yards we need to get the athleticism of Riley Leonard going here there's QB draws there's moving the pocket they were not protecting him well you have to do something when you're not protecting him well rather than playing basic offensive football and that didn't materialize today no and and again I completely agree with you we saw Riley Leonard on more than one occasion get up very gingerly even on a on a positive run in the first half uh where went um cat catapulting out of bounds that was a really hard hit on on the sideline Turf we saw him get up really very slowly uh after getting hammered on a play in the second half and and stayed on his knees a couple of extra seconds before finally pulling himself up there there's no way he wasn't limited and um there's no way that they didn't change that portion of the game plan for as many hard hits as he took in the first half yes he was effective and and they should have gone back to it um but uh they've got to be transparent there and say well no we had to dial it back a little bit he was he was dinged up it looked like he had a shoulder uh his shoulder appeared sore I saw him moving it a couple of different times we know that he had a bad hand bruise last week was that affecting the passing uh just a a number of things but he was effective running the ball they were they showed some new stuff uh today I think the touchdown play they might have even pulled Bo Collins in line and then had Eli raran and Cooper Flanigan in there and r bowled into the end zone de and Deon Ford was in front of him again yeah that's yeah so really effective there um this will this will blow your mind as well too I I charted it and when Notre Dame scored to take the lead it was around 349 or 350 something like that and Notre Dame did not take the lead again for 110 minutes it was on of actual clock it went from like 350 until 540 or 539 before Notre Dame ever had the lead again that was just 14-13 and again not remotely good enough I want to bring this up because I mentioned it to Tim prer during the first drive he's like how about they stop running Leonard kind of joking because you you don't want to necessarily have to run him as much as you did against A&M every game I said I'm concerned that they have to run Leonard that they came out and the plan was to run Leonard because they felt that they might need that Mark Wade said asks maybe needing Leonard to constantly bail out the offense with his legs points to bigger issues and that's true and I think we wanted to see something different this week we wanted to see growth now we could insert all the jokes you want here about the lack of growth in the game you wanted to see growth in the past game you wanted to see growth in the offensive line there weren't as many pre- snap penalties but there shouldn't be you're at home uh by the way the home crowd doesn't exactly do no name the same favor as Texas A&M's crowd does for uh for the Irish but that you know what as I said you need to give them a reason to cheer once in a while when you're playing a Mac team and that couldn't that didn't happen as you said 110 game minutes prior to that before that score they gave them nothing to he about after the first drive this has to be put more on the offense even though there was a four-phase absolute miserable performance from coaching special teams defense and offense the offense has to be viable at some point to help out its defense special teams the the second block a 62 yard kick John it the most likely thing was it was going to be blocked because he has to go very low to try to make that kick yeah and I think the first block I need to see it again I watched it a couple of times I think the the Northern Illinois interior lineman U Got a little shove back on Pat cougan and got his big mid up there to block it it was low though but he he he was extended he did have to extend to block it it's not like a few years ago when I saw an Alabama player blocking Tennessee field goal with his face mask because he had penetrated so severely but um you know a lot of breakdowns we said last week that we felt Notre Dame won from the headset on down Notre Dame lost today from the headsets on down Notre Dame has a question and I think we both talked about it I I was I'll pre this right now before Clint ask question they started receiving some booze late in the first half when anas will they ran a draw to anas Williams I didn't think that was a terrible call because you could you could make the 47 yard field goal because of the G The Yards anas Williams gain there and quite honestly what do you think was happening in the passing game nothing they really booed them going off the field after the block and Clint Novak says I think this is response to me saying that uh the fans weren't into it enough the fans knew they had seen this fish before and it stunk he's right I should I I don't I don't take it back that Notre Dame fans need a reason to to cheer in most games but they had nothing to cheer for here and the booze were deserved and John Bryce I think had we had more time it's a question to ask I mean it was surprising Notre Dame the team of the week last week getting booed off its own field at halftime at half time boo repeatedly i' I've got it somewhere in my notes when we first heard the boo birds and they were loud booed again very loudly at halftime and certainly booed late in the game when when um when Northern I almost said Marshall when Northern Illinois kicked the game winning field goal and then boot again headed in heading into the tunnel um and again the worst loss per Vegas oddsmakers for Notre Dame since 1996 Northwestern as you noted Northwestern went on to the Rose Bowl that year um Northern Illinois not going to Rose Bowl this year although hey with this win for Northern Illinois today some group of five teams somewhere gets a playoff bid so we'll we'll uh nor Illinois taking uh Notre Dame's Pelt today give the Huskies a shot I still think they've got some losses in them um Notre Dame today was a much worse team than Northern Illinois was good but Northern Illinois did some very good things today Mark Wade asked how surprised are you to see this kind of loss in year three of Marcus Freeman I think this is worth noting and it prob this is actually the only good news for next week I said in the preseason long ago that because we have too much to talk about in the preseason that Marcus Freeman his teams at notame in two years have not handled success well they've handled failure great they've bounced back from failure because I still contend the first loss to Ohio State they were getting patted on the back for being the best one lost team of the country the best 0 and-one team in the country they did not do anything with Marshall he responded after Marshall beating UNCC and Brigham Young they come home 17-point favorites over Stanford absolutely laying egg after that they recover they saved the season get all the way to USC at 8 and3 I'm not saying they blew that game but they lose to USC coming off some success you start 4-0 you lose to Ohio State you bounce back and make a great Victory against Duke everybody's patting you on the back and you lose to Louisville you go out and you beat USC bouncing back from Louisville and you go out and lay an egg against Clemson this is not only a pattern this is just reality right now they'll probably go out and handle Purdue but what's gonna happen when they win a couple in a row and Stanford comes back to town it's a serious question no it's absolutely a fair question um again we know this team buys into choosing hard and the bumpy road um but they do themselves no favor when they send themselves on those bumpy paths and when they make themselves choose hard unnecessarily and this was uh choosing hard this was uh again the the superior roster got whipped today and the um Superior and certainly exponentially more uh high- paid coaching staff also got whipped today steel Horseman asked and this is a question I think prer would like to have addressed he Tim prester by the way is writing his snap judg right now steel Horseman says do you think they were beaten up from last week I know Tim was surprised to hear there was Tuesday and Wednesday physical practices the only reason I wasn't surprised to hear that is I just think of Coach speak when people talk about how good what how good our practice week was I think and this the story that talked about the notams vexing aftermath games I wrote this week every single coach said what a great week of practice they had and how focused they were going into game two when they lost the game or barely won so I just I didn't lend much Credence to that but very physical draining game against A&M if you go out and have two physical practices maybe they were tired but nobody Minds hearing it when you when you first hear it we didn't like we weren't saying oh gosh I can't believe they're physical practice you would hate to hear the other thing probably it's damned if you do and damned if you don't but maybe they were tired maybe they were worn out but you still have to be able to answer the Bell because you're a deeper team definitely a deeper team uh again we saw them rotating incredibly early on the defensive side of the ball again to try and have those guys fresh in the second half and Notre Dan just could not get off the field I'm I'm just stunned at how ineffective Notre Dame was defensively in trying to get off the field and the fact that the Notre Dame had those three three and outs and two more possessions of four or four plays only whereas as I noted Northern Illinois only had one three and out and then no other drives for the Huskies were fewer than five plays I don't believe and and as you've noted they had some cresting up around double digit plays you know notame fans are GNA hate that they bring this up because uh sometimes when a quarterback would struggle under the previous head coach even when he was still the starter they would go to the backup quarterback and it it was all over the board I for good reason or him couldn't move the ball and we're asked here by Sam Terell and jelly would have won this actually it's a statement by Sam Terell and jelly would have won this it's an interesting Dynamic if you're Marcus Freeman because if Riley Leonard was limited and he just had to stand there and throw you do have a better option than R than a limited Riley Leonard however if Riley Leonard wasn't limited he's the guy can escape and get a 16 yard gain out of nowhere when something breaks down he's the guy that could still hit one it would have taken a lot to take out Riley Leonard it has happened before at Notre Dame Tommy ree was used that way it doesn't always work it worked for Tommy ree but it doesn't always work but I for the first time wondered going to that last Drive could they just hit a couple passes if Leonard's limited and you take him out yeah and again we don't we don't know we we certainly suspect that Leonard was limited and and we know that Marcus Freeman referenced and I think Riley kind of tried to keep his his hand not visible last week at Texas A&M we know he had a bad bruise on his hand last week at Texas A&M so was he just inaccurate today or was he inaccurate because he had been beat to pieces and because he has a bruised hand and and then he needs to to move the the football with his legs to increase his accuracy passing because he has bigger passing Windows when he's effect of running the football and um again love and price didn't remotely get enough touches today four for jarian Price four carries yeah and and he flashed again I mean he flashed again in very limited work and had one of the better more positive runs for Notre Dame going around right in and picking up a key first down again just really inexplicable the complete lack of identity for Notre Dame offensively and then the inability to get off of the field defensively Tim prer has joined us and I am gonna Tim you came in a hot button topic time here Mike C asked do you think Leonard starts next week I do think leard starts next week my question was if he was limited Tim before you joined us if he can't throw the ball downfield and he's too limited to run on the last drive is it better to have Steve Angeli throw a couple passes down the field because he has a chance of being accurate I mentioned Tommy Reese of course to some critical Acclaim did this for Brian Kelly in victories it doesn't mean you're benching your starter every other position can be taken out if they're mildly ineffective and regain his starting job it's a definite tough Balancing Act for a transfer quarterback in Marcus Freeman though I think you would have had to have made that decision before the last Drive D ultimate Drive probably yeah I mean I think you would have had to allow Angeli a little bit of leeway there and you're still you know we don't know excuse me we don't know to what level he was injured because we were told we weren't we were told we weren't allowed to ask which is I don't know that I've ever heard that for I understand where say that the question's not going to be answered but we were told that we were not allowed to ask about his injury so some things are changing here along the way over the course of our careers but uh you know he starts next week you know this the guy that they went out and got I would imagine they still had confidence in him to make some plays the receivers have to make some plays too I realize the underthrow a Chris Mitchell is that's totally on Leonard um you know that certainly that play call can be second guest something maybe a little bit more manageable since you haven't hit a deep ball year last week the longest was 20 yards today was 19 yards uh but you know this is I mean it is it is what it is at this point we can speculate you know all we want about it but um can't get this one back you know as we said on instant analysis um you know we thought Texas loss would be TR one I'm not really sure how you um I do want to answer fast Chris say he says he thinks Marcus Freeman says you're not allowed to ask that's not what you meant you were talking about the policy is not allowed to ask he said get that loser out of here that's Marcus Freeman didn't say we're not allowed to ask for those things that's media relations policy Marcus Freeman didn't say that um no it was it was all about uh I need to get my headphones in here um it was all about the the the decree that came down from Notre Dame I don't think Marcus I think Marcus Freeman had some other things on his mind besides something like that but um you know it's just uh I'm sure you guys have covered it I I was gonna say it's about where you go from here now because you can't sit here and keep wondering is it the worst loss in Notre Dame history it is the worst loss via point spread we mentioned on instant analysis since Northwestern Northwestern in the opener Northwestern went to the Rose bow not sure Northern Illinois is going to go to the playoff but uh it's it's one of the worst losses but it's the worst loss since Marshall too people asked about that it's just worse because it's year three JB we talked about that in the walk back it's it's year three the Marcus Freeman era he knows his team it's um I mean it's inexcusable there's there's no other word to to describe it Marcus Freeman called it an entire program failure today um and he's right it's absolutely a program failure but it starts with him and um he's had now three of these games I think Tom the intern with the fabulous stat showing that Marcus Freeman is now just five and three against FBS teams at home when he's a 13.5 Point favorite or higher uh that's just that's not getting it done that's not getting it done when you lose to those teams now Marshall went on and had a nice year that year Northern Illinois certainly will have some more wins on its schedule Stanford was Dreadful but year three you can't you just cannot make this sort of giant step back in year three when You' finally gone on the road and gotten a quality Road win against an SEC foe the week before just ready to bet against Northern Illinois guys because they have a byee next week though you want to talk about human nature they're dunzo same with same with Marshall and they beaten other Dame fortunate that they have a they have a buy next week but you know I want to I want to get back to this again because I think that it's a little it's a little close-minded you can't I would imagine behind closed doors Marcus Freeman is going to say okay do we go too hard on Tuesday and Wednesday I wasn't there I I I'm not I'm not saying I'm second guessing that I I I don't I didn't see his team practice I didn't know exactly what they needed but you can't just say you can't just say oh we had to do it and that's that your players weren't mentally and emotionally and physically ready to perform out of the gate so you have to go back and evaluate the approach that you took and I understand that they had a lot to fix after uh you know after the win over Texas A&M but does Jim does Jim trussle calling him and saying hey remember you know you're not there yet you got to stay on these guys did did he determine did he determine how uh you know how Marcus Freeman was going to practice this week again I I I'm not claiming to know what was what should have been done on Tuesday and Wednesday but what I do know is that on on Saturday I we now know that there there were some things that were done during the week that obviously weren't weren't the right thing to do because your team was absolutely not prepared to play winning football after the first drive of the game and credit to God I don't want to take anything away from from Northern Illinois Thomas hammock probably regardless what happens the rest of the way and I think that they'll certainly be competitive in a m if there was any question about whether he was going to be in his seventh year as head coach at at Northern Illinois that that question's probably already been answered here today go ahead J yeah I would just say I just saw a question there uh being asked does does maybe Notre Dame's 5 foot s inch Long Snapper on field goals have anything to do with the blocks of course that's Reno monforte um actually college football has a rule where um you can't Engage The the center right there when he snaps you can't rush the the center and um again one of the blocks today um the first block today occurred with with the guy that was lined up over Pat cougan and got push and got his arm up so I'll watch the film of course some more and take a look at that the second one as we noted was almost always going to be blocked because you have to try to drive it so low even if you did have the wind with you and um again there there's some clock management issues that we saw Notre Dame had to take a defensive timeout in the third quarter that it obviously very desperately needed at the end of the game uh I thought it was poor clock management when Notre Dame let the two-minute warning roll all the way down I think that cost them 37 seconds when they could have called their timeouts a little bit differently and tried to force Northern Illinois hands there a little bit more so um again a lot of issues today a lot of issues from a lack of offensive identity not being able to get off the field defensively um and more bugaboos and time management among as TP just said also not not having the team ready to play well enough today I saw a question on there does does el golden believe in not stopping the run that is a that you're you're totally misconstruing the concept so I I'm not even going to answer that they he he clearly said this week that you have to approach Northern Illinois differently than you do Texas A&M so there was a greater emphasis put on stopping the Run they didn't they didn't perform well it had it wasn't a philosophy um that that caused that Northern Illinois is a quality running football team and and tyo brown is is a good running back I realize that shouldn't that shouldn't be enough to to run the football against Notre Dame but that comment is misconstruing what his philosophy is and I I do want to say uh James wack I disagree with this the play call to throw the ball down the field on second and short with a onepoint lead in the fourth quarter is inexcusable I don't think so I think you have to trust a senior quarterback not to throw that pass it's second and one you haven't run the ball that well you're only up by one point you you you want more points running the ball on second and one and making yourself putting yourself at first and 10 the way this offense went I don't think that's inexcusable at all in fact I will posit that if they ran the ball there you would say Notre Dames took their foot off the gas when they started moving the ball because they completed two straight passes to Bo Collins I don't but I don't mind the play call you can't throw that pass the way that pass was thrown that is a that that's a high school throw yeah and it comes back 15 yards yeah and it it comes back to he's never proven that he can throw those passes consistently um and until think he's a little banged up though because of how bad that throw missed but he said he had bad feet he could have hurried it he had time on the throw too it one of the times he dropped back and had time which he did maybe was surprised note that um also you throw that pass and Mitchell is is a Speedster he's not going to be your most physical guy to try to fight the the DB um if it is a true 50-50 ball so um the play was there if he leads him uh it's probably a big gain at worst case it's an incompletion but instead it's severely underthrown and again Mitchell is not the guy that is going to um battle the the defensive back the way that we saw Bo Collins do a week ago at Texas a&n massive if you if it's incomplete it's third and one you still have another shot of converting and and keeping control moving the chain so I you know I I I I get the reaction um I've had 43 years of getting used to reactions to bad plays that that don't go Notre Dame's way couple poses before I wrap this up Jaden osberg was fantastic I have to look back at the last Drive JB and I couldn't decide what at what point he was on the field that last drive he was the hero of the previous drive Jeremiah Love ran hard again at preer before you came on I said that was going to be highlight reel forever in Notre Dame lore except it really can't go in there you don't see a lot of Northwestern highlight real plays from 1995 either not sure they're gonna be putting Jeremiah Love on any Futures there although no Dame basketball does put Kelly drauk a shot from the corner when right before Danny a goes down and lays it in to end it so doesn't matter that much but uh yeah I think Osberry love um I thought Jordan Clark played pretty well Rod herd had good coverage on that beautiful third down catch I can't blame Rod herd it was an incredible catch barod herd was in for Jordan B when they targeted Bo Collins he made some plays yeah I actually in my uh in my snap judgments and I'm trying to finish up here uh you know you tried to list some of the guys that played their best football that the the offensive line took a massive step backwards they were not ready to play at any at at any kind of Championship level or quality level and again as we said in in in analysis they didn't have their best defensive lineman a guy the defensive end that made an Inc defensive end making 74 tackles in the season that's that's an outrageous number they didn't even have him Northern Illinois 16 Notre 14 we will have Marcus Freeman Monday we'll have instant analysis following and a podcast that's going to be
