a p which is a realization that if you don't pay those if you don't get the transfer P you ain't win you got win Coach K said I don't do one and done no that ain't me right until he started doing one and done if you can't beat him join you ain't got no choice you ain't got no choice get with the program you ain't got no choice you're not that good you're not that good buddy you're not that good if you think you just gonna get high school seniors and you G and that's what you goingon to win with bro that's over not GNA happen it is over and let me contextualize this for anyone who's not aware of what happened here there were only four schools in the country this year that did not take a single transfer Clemson and the three service acmy there are obvious reasons why no one is transferring to Army Navy and Air Force uh people would transfer to Clemson if D swey were willing to do that so you know Paul for those who are not today you had some very strong comments and what what do we say about the this approach that DB oeni has chosen at it's a complete and total failure greeny and I don't know how you can find it any other way when you look up and down college football and that the top teams many of whom have quarterbacks who have transferred in in fact uh I I don't Georgia doesn't but but Texas uh does Oregon does so many other schools do and for Dabo just to completely you know say I'm going to do it my way that's fine but this is 2024 Everything Has Changed and you're still being uh you're living in another world an anti lovian philosophy and it's costing him and I'm not suggesting there's any the end is near for him but his fans the ones of which I've heard from already on our show greeny are frustrated and they don't know what to do because he's been so successful you can't go down the hallway and say get out of here the guy's been to four National Championship games and six playoffs he's taking Clemson where it has never been before but it's going nowhere right now no one is questioning what he has achieved and no one is questioning whether he's a good coach but the reality is he again has chosen Desmond the path you want to talk about the The Road Less Traveled he has chosen not to take advantage of a new rule in the sport that quite literally every team he competes with has so Dez I want to ask you as a college football analyst does he have any chance of winning in a major way without going into the portal as everyone else does greeny the reason why a lot of coaches they dip into the portal nowadays is because they don't do a good job at developing the talent that they bring in you look at some of these um these programs like a Clemson you know and they have like high recruiting classes meaning they're movement my problem is it's okay if you don't want to go get a quarterback out of the portal I get that you may go get a piece here like a wide receiver or an offensive lineman and we don't see the the progress the development then that's the problem that I have so he's adopted this philosophy that I have the Supreme confidence in myself and my coaching staff to develop the players that we recruit that's fine and dandy but when you going up against a team like a Georgia who's going to be the yard stick by which your team which your players are measured then at that point we can see just how well you've developed your talent and at that point at this point it seems like is now on the level of a top tier program which is sad to see because dbo is a top tier coach what what do you think Jeff the whole thing no I actually agree with that I mean I think what what his point is is the best made right is when you look at this is not your ability to coach this is your ability to develop the talent on your team so many teams now are going to get players that are already developed they've already produced Big Numbers at other places they're coming into programs and I think that's going to be the part that's most difficult for Dabo it's it's much it's much different to try to develop an 18y old and a 21y old and now guys play six years in the in college or more which is crazy so these guys have a lot of football experience and you're comparing them to young players with no experience it makes it much more difficult I will say though it's not I I watched that entire game they they were with Georgia early on now but Georgia is in a complete class by itself so I would say to just rubber stamp all is for not there in Clemson because of you lose to a lot of teams going to lose to Georgia this year greeny a lot of Team probably every team honestly so let's not just say all in comparison to Georgia let's not just jump on that train that's fine I that's that all everything that's being said here is fine the only question I'm asking is if an NFL team and let's face it college football has become a professional sports if if if if an NFL team if an NFL general manager said we're not signing free agents we don't do that like we're going to draft players develop them and that's it and we believe in our system and we're not going to sign free agents he would last 4 seconds cuz everyone would say what talking about here's a rule that everyone else is taking advantage of and you're choosing not to that's what Davos Sweeny is doing and that's the part of it that I think is Florida State looked just awful last night getting blown out by Boston College 2813 in Tallahassee the seminal ran for 21 yards oh in this game and gave up over 260 yard rushing our own former Boston College Eagle Damen Woody no one loved it [Laughter] more we smashed them boys down in tyah hasset man smash them boys [Laughter] now that's a happy offensive line M Jeff is laughing over here when one team runs for 263 yards and the other runs for 21 yards you don't have to guess who wound up winning the game the great Desmond Howard is up with us this morning along with with Paul and and you know the world is piling on Florida State and and and that it's understandable we know we're going to do it I would ask you as an analyst to explain it like this is a team that would seem to have absolutely everything in the world to play for early in this season after the way they felt like they were robbed last year how do you explain them coming out 0 and2 in games in which they were double digigit favorites in both yeah it's really difficult to explain because you thought that they had the talent to at least Beat Boston College and Georgia Tech right out the gate but I think that um both teams came out with excellent game plans and the Georgia Tech game I understood that they were going to struggle in the first half but the second half Florida State made no adjustments and in this game I just thought that Boston College and uh coach O'Brien you got to give them a lot of credit they came out with a specific game plan they executed their game plan to Perfection which was keep away football in the first half I think in the first quarter they had the ball like almost 14 minutes so they were able to execute their game plan but again in the second half you didn't see any great adjustments and then Florida State just played uninspired for this to be their second game of the season their home opener and they didn't have a lot of juice a lot of Fire was very disappointing and so Paul for those just waking up and joining us um you know talk about a 12 te playoff do we stick a fork in Florida State as early as this yes you do uh and I I know a lot of people will say there there's a lot of football left to be played no no greeny the football has already been played the these are not even big games on Florida State schedule uh they have blown both of them they're in the ACC which means they need to win that League at this point to to get an automatic bid or or or even into the playoffs and they're they're not going to they have to deal with Miami they're not going to beat Miami I I don't really I'm not sure this team can beat anyone uh the way they played in the first two rounds so let's not uh let's not you act like this is not a big deal it
