(buoyant music) - The Auburn BSW program
is a part of the Department of Sociology, anthropology,
and social work within the College of Liberal Arts. Social Work Education has been
around at Auburn since 1975, so we have a very long history of preparing generalist social workers to work with individuals,
families, groups, and communities with a
special focus on those who are experiencing some
type of life struggle, crisis, that they need to adjust to or
are particularly vulnerable. I think one of the things that makes Auburn's
Undergraduate Social Work program so nice is that we have a
small student to faculty ratio of one to 17. - We definitely include office hours. We have an open door policy where students can come to our
offices if we're available. We also have service
learning opportunities where we are working
alongside the students in those learning experiences. We have a program called, "Brave Hearts," where students in our program
will interact with individuals who have disabilities. We also have interprofessional
education opportunities for students where they
work collaboratively with other disciplines
like nursing, pharmacy. We also have field trip opportunities for students to participate in, like going to legislative
day at the state capital. Someone that would be a good
candidate for this program would definitely be somebody
who wants to make a difference and work with vulnerable
and oppressed groups, but also someone who is a problem solver and someone who's able
to think on their feet and be comfortable in
uncomfortable situations. - Social workers play a really
important role in society in advocating for and enhancing
the wellbeing of individuals who are experiencing a
struggle or adversity and I think it's an honor to
prepare future social workers to do that work. (buoyant music continues)
